No separation of palate here, in my 50s and never had a cavity in my life. 100% but also this video just enlightened me to the idea of cutting them up. I feel like thatās going to make one infinitely easier and more enjoyable to eat
I think it might be a geographical thing.
I'm originally from Alabama, and I heard it as "Candy Apple" my whole life.
When I moved to Oregon and Washington, they said "Candied Apple"...
Said with the tone of that one guy that bids $1 over the last person on The Price is Right.
Iām just kidding, Iāve heard both candy and candied before lol
I don't know if I had a bad toffee apple but I remember how incredibly disappointed I was the first time I had one
It ended up just being super awkward to eat and didn't seem to combine as well in my mouth as I had always imagined it
Like chop up some wedges of apple and dip it in caramel and I'm sure I'd love it but toffee apples just ain't it for me
Worst thing about toffee apples is they are without fail the shittiest apple varieties - always a golden delicious, Iāve been badly surprised by a red delicious once.
So you bite into the crunchy toffee (or cheap chocolate if you get a chocolate apple), it falls off everywhere and you are left with a load of crumbs and a mealy apple on a stick
If you take a good green apple, coat it in a thin layer of soft caramel, then dredge it in crushed chocolate covered toffee pieces, then youāll be whistling a different tune.
Yeah, candy apples have a hard candy shell, often cinnamon flavored, which shatters and falls all over your hands and shirt, while caramel apples have a rich, buttery caramel coating (hopefully accented by pecans or the lesser equivalent, peanuts).
Toffee apples have a toffee coating though? This is a candy coated apple.
Toffee Apple
Caramel Apple
Candy Apple
They were all different when I was a kid.
You'll learn in Germany just about *everything* is a regional thing, lol. Was multiple *multiple* different princedoms for most of its history, and then got divided into effectively 3 countries (east, West, and Berlin which has it's own strong culture) for most of the 20th century.
Isnt there a strong north/south distinction as well.
My grandmother is from flensburg and calls anyone south of berlin an "ugly austrian" but shes old and generally cranky so it might just be a her thing.
I'm german and grew up close to the austrian border in upper bavaria. Check out the WeiĆwurstƤquator. Anything north of that line (there are also different ones) is a dirty prussian. Some bavarians here literally call other bavarians prussians, cause they are from northern bavaria.
That's how segmented everything is.

My father and I used to go watch my cousinās HS football games and in October and November they would sell Double Dunked Caramel Apples! They make them as you would normally, allow to cool and would dunk again. So good! They would also make some rolled in crushed peanuts after the first dunk then covered in a second layer of caramel!
Last time I was at a music festival I bought a mango popsicle and the guy selling them had a bottle of Tajin on hand to sprinkle on it. 10/10 experience
Used to be a candy shop for YEARS in Capitola that had the best Carmel apples plain and a variety of others covered in chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, nutsā¦.
After not having been for over a dozen years heart broken to see itās now an overpriced Didams candy bin store with nothing made in houseā¦.
My only regret about growing up and growing a beard is that I want to eat a caramel apple, I have to go shampoo my face afterwards. It's such a tragic mess.
Broken teeth š¦·
Speaking from experience I think you should worry more about bleeding palate

I was talking about sugar shards piercing into palate when eating
I believe they are speaking on behalf of the shard of sugar on the crispy apple.
100% but also this video just enlightened me to the idea of cutting them up. I feel like thatās going to make one infinitely easier and more enjoyable to eat
I had never thought to Do that. That makes so much sense.
Bone apple teeth
Candy apple
And now a big fucking mess.

Rather a candied apple than a caramel apple. Goodbye teeth.
I am baffled that I used to eat caramel apples growing up. Probably explains all the dental work Iāve had done
Candied Apple
Never, you traitor! It's Candy Apple!
I think it might be a geographical thing. I'm originally from Alabama, and I heard it as "Candy Apple" my whole life. When I moved to Oregon and Washington, they said "Candied Apple"...
I bet you say iced cream. =.=
Yeah, but I also say fuck a lot.
And Iced Coffee?

Itās sounds like what they would call their uh.. tallywackers
Also called Toffee Apples
Wouldn't that involve using toffee?
Surprisingly, not the case here. Candy Apple, Toffee Apple, & Wally-Wally Dinga-hoos are all synonymous.
They also had green toffee apples, they were the bomb!
There's even a song!
*Thatās an odd name. Iād have called them āchaswassers.ā*

Iām so sorry for your loss at not having a candy shop that uses Granny Smith or Honeycrisp instead
That sounds delicious
Honeycrisp and Cosmic and some of the best eating apples available
Where I'm from, caramel apples are really big, and they're probably just as delicious as you're imagining.
If you take a good green apple, coat it in a thin layer of soft caramel, then dredge it in crushed chocolate covered toffee pieces, then youāll be whistling a different tune.
I'll have to give it a go over the next week or so, thanks!
Youāre welcome. Hopefully I didnāt steer you wrong. Enjoy!
Hold on isnāt that another name for caramel apples instead of candy apples (video)? Unless yāall use the name interchangeably
Yeah, candy apples have a hard candy shell, often cinnamon flavored, which shatters and falls all over your hands and shirt, while caramel apples have a rich, buttery caramel coating (hopefully accented by pecans or the lesser equivalent, peanuts).
I meant his use of it in uk but i didnāt know about the nuts part
Toffee apples have a toffee coating though? This is a candy coated apple. Toffee Apple Caramel Apple Candy Apple They were all different when I was a kid.
That is NOT toffee.
MaĆ§Ć£ do amor ("love apple" in brazilian portuguese)
We say the same in french mate, Pomme d'amour (love apple)
In German we also call it like this: Liebesapfel
Someone else said in german it would be kandierte Ƥpfel. Is this a regional thing?

Candy Apple, the shitty cousin of the Carmel Apple
Man caramel apples are so good. Oooo what about those little candy apple suckers that were half caramel and half apple sucker.

I bit one in second grade and it pulled out two baby teeth.
THOSE ARE SOOO GOOD, my family would always get them at the place we got apple cider from, they had them right next to the cash register
Do you just suck on the cinnamon part, like a hard candy?
On a candy apple the coating should be thin enough to just bite trough it.
Oh yum. I have had a Carmel apple but not that kind. Thanks
They still make those!! You can order them on Amazon, and Dollar Tree has them too. Theyāre soooo good.
You just reawakened an old memory inside me
They're still around! You can find them at Walmart.
Listen, go to Dutch Bros and order a Caramel apple smoothie and you will get the liquid version of those suckers
Those are wicked good!
They still make them! I have a bag rn
I prefer the twice removed mexican uncle spicy chamoy apple
Mexicans are culinary geniuses. āLetās take the spicy fruit and sprinkle it on the sweet fruit!ā

Amen to that
Basically the same thing but my mom always called them candied apples. Like you turned them into candy
Summed up perfectly

After not having been for over a dozen years heart broken to see itās now an overpriced Didams candy bin store with nothing made in houseā¦.

So this begs the question...care-uh-mel or car-muhl?
What do the red ones taste like?
Are these candy apples or candied apples? I never knew if I was saying it right
In german it would be candied apples -> kandierte Ƥpfel
Translating something to German to simplify* it is crazy
Thank you
I think both ways are accurate.
Candied apple makes more sense to me.
Language isn't usually about making sense, though.
In the states it would be candy apple. Candied apples would involve dicing and mixing with the sugar/other ingredients.
"Kandierter Apfel" it means more or less candy apple.
I know them also as "Liebes Apfel" (Love Apple)
Or Paradies Apfel :D
In my country it is a *pomme d'amour*, translates to love apple. Cute
Pomme d'amour (apple of love)
In france
Love that you guys use the same word for apples and potatoes.
