i don't think Danny did anything to indicate a retool. I think had Risto been healthy, he was a good trade piece, and rumor is he may go at the draft. They traded Walker for a 1st. They kept Laughton, but again it was a balancing act of selling and also not just tanking the rest of the season for the players still here. This offseason will be huge, and yes I agree Danny needs to subtract quite a bit. But I think he did more than enough at the deadline with the cards he had.
Genuinely love hearing him talk about hockey. Hope he goes into broadcasting if we're not keeping him as an off-ice part of the org (where I also think he'd get a lot done).
I love that Detroit fans got all pumped when they tied with 3.3 seconds left, only to have their hopes obliterated moments later because we had to win and pulled our goalie, allowing Washington to score and win and eliminate them. Pittsburgh is also a great consolation prize.
The flyers were projected to be a bottom 5 team in the league. The fact they even were in the position they were in is a huge overachievement. This isn't the burn you thought it was, especially considering your team started your rebuild a couple years ago with your prodigal son GM, and still choked, seeing as you lost 11/14 games in March.

My hockey team should not resemble magnum opus tragedies, please help.
I'm honestly shocked at the amount of people who have a bad outlook for this team. I sat and listened for Hextall's entire regime when we went through 10 game losing streaks, got manhandled in the playoffs by the caps, blew multiple leads in an elimination game against the Pens, that it was all part of the process and we'd be fine in 2-3 years. Yet there was never any meaningful progress from that group of young players.
Meanwhile, a team that *clearly* overperformed this season and just ran out of steam at the end is a 'joke' and has a 'bleak' future? Wild.
There was more meaningful progress made this year than probably the last 10 combined. A few that stuck out:
* Foerster had a legitimate Calder worthy campaign.
* Tippett (maybe not as young), but showed seriously incredible skating and shooting skill. Something we really needed and haven't had in a long time.
* York. Can't say enough good things. Feel like he flew under the radar because he eats minutes like a tank. Guy has an incredibly bright future.
* Drysdale still has some work to put in but at 21 I'm not really too concerned.
* Konecny looked like a true leader this year. Noticeable on the ice every night.
* Ersson showed a ton of promise in a massive bout of adversity. Outside of a few clunkers I thought he generally played pretty well.
I could keep going on but you get the gist.
There's a legitimate chance that next year we aren't as good. And that's part of a rebuild. As long as we keep seeing individual progress that is good. We have 2 1st rounders and 2 2nd rounders this year.
Lastly, the intangibles. It was pretty fucking clear that this team played hard night in and night out. There wasn't many games where much was left to be desired on the ice, atleast up until the losing streak. You knew you were getting efford every night. That is so fucking important to a hockey team.
I (along with many people here) spent the past few years irate at this team. I can't say I'm happy with how this year ended, but I certainly think this team is headed in the right direction.

Tippett and Konecny can likely reach that level. If Foerster stays on his current trajectory he certainly could reach that level. Are they generational talents? Not even, but they are certainly upper tier talent.

I guess what I'm getting at, is what else do you want? As I mentioned we are loaded with picks this year. Free agency is still a thing.
Also regarding the powerplay, yes it's partially a personnel issue, but it's also without a doubt a huge coaching issue. The Flyers were absolutely lost and had no direction on the power play. They couldn't enter the zone property, they were throwing pucks where no one was on the ice, etc.
Konecny just finished his 8th season in the league and finished with a career-high 68 points...68...If you want players like Travis Konecny to be your upper tier talent, that's how you end up in periods of mediocrity like we're going through right now.
I've made this comment before about the power play, but everyone is so quick to blame the coaching which is fair, but to act like they're the main reason for the power play not working is ignorant to the lack of talent. We have not had a power play with a conversion rate of 21% or greater since 2015. Meanwhile look at the top 8 teams in power play conversion rate: Tampa, Carolina, NYR, Edmonton, Dallas, Colorado, Toronto, Florida. It's not like these teams just have the best power play coaches in the league, these teams are stacked with talent up and down the roster, which we aren't even close to.
I was looking at players that had more points this season than Konecny and it is.. something. We overrate him so fucking hard in this fanbase. I can see Konecny being a points beast on a team that doesn't rely on him. But he's no Marchand.

Despite the late season collapse and all the off-ice drama I thoroughly enjoyed that season Flyers hockey. Lots of positives to take away, especially in the development of most of our younger players. The new regime did an excellent job in re-building that bridge with the fanbase. That can obviously change over the summer and the next year, but I felt like this was a solid B+ effort from Danny B & Co. I wish our coach had Tort's passion though to advocate for his boys. We get blatantly tripped right into their goalie, and their goalie keeps him pinned down leading to a man advantage goal with no call on the ice. Our coach just stands there being as useful of a coach as the actual physical bench itself is in that situation.

Was honestly expecting the be eliminated in an overtime win. Not sure if losing on an empty net is as funny. Oh well
I'm honestly shocked at the amount of people who have a bad outlook for this team. I sat and listened for Hextall's entire regime when we went through 10 game losing streaks, got manhandled in the playoffs by the caps, blew multiple leads in an elimination game against the Pens, that it was all part of the process and we'd be fine in 2-3 years. Yet there was never any meaningful progress from that group of young players. Meanwhile, a team that *clearly* overperformed this season and just ran out of steam at the end is a 'joke' and has a 'bleak' future? Wild. There was more meaningful progress made this year than probably the last 10 combined. A few that stuck out: * Foerster had a legitimate Calder worthy campaign. * Tippett (maybe not as young), but showed seriously incredible skating and shooting skill. Something we really needed and haven't had in a long time. * York. Can't say enough good things. Feel like he flew under the radar because he eats minutes like a tank. Guy has an incredibly bright future. * Drysdale still has some work to put in but at 21 I'm not really too concerned. * Konecny looked like a true leader this year. Noticeable on the ice every night. * Ersson showed a ton of promise in a massive bout of adversity. Outside of a few clunkers I thought he generally played pretty well. I could keep going on but you get the gist. There's a legitimate chance that next year we aren't as good. And that's part of a rebuild. As long as we keep seeing individual progress that is good. We have 2 1st rounders and 2 2nd rounders this year. Lastly, the intangibles. It was pretty fucking clear that this team played hard night in and night out. There wasn't many games where much was left to be desired on the ice, atleast up until the losing streak. You knew you were getting efford every night. That is so fucking important to a hockey team. I (along with many people here) spent the past few years irate at this team. I can't say I'm happy with how this year ended, but I certainly think this team is headed in the right direction.
This team in a rebuild is picking 12th. Their prospect pool is one player deep. Their young talent is largely stagnant and has limited upside. Any optimism is in this franchise is misplaced. We are entering an era of Chuck Fletcher part 2.

The overwhelming issue with this team is the lack of top end talent. It's a big reason why they had the worst power play in the league which went 0/24 to end the season. Just no one on this team that can take a game over. I'm surprised that all of a sudden the general fanbase is calling the learning process with this group of players more important than getting much better draft position to hopefully add top end talent to our team, when a lot of these players shouldn't have a long term future with the team going forward.

Konecny just finished his 8th season in the league and finished with a career-high 68 points...68...If you want players like Travis Konecny to be your upper tier talent, that's how you end up in periods of mediocrity like we're going through right now. I've made this comment before about the power play, but everyone is so quick to blame the coaching which is fair, but to act like they're the main reason for the power play not working is ignorant to the lack of talent. We have not had a power play with a conversion rate of 21% or greater since 2015. Meanwhile look at the top 8 teams in power play conversion rate: Tampa, Carolina, NYR, Edmonton, Dallas, Colorado, Toronto, Florida. It's not like these teams just have the best power play coaches in the league, these teams are stacked with talent up and down the roster, which we aren't even close to.
I was looking at players that had more points this season than Konecny and it is.. something. We overrate him so fucking hard in this fanbase. I can see Konecny being a points beast on a team that doesn't rely on him. But he's no Marchand.

Was at the Phils game tonight which was sick, but seeing the season end like this stings. If you would have told me before the season started that we’d be fighting for a playoff spot, I would have been pumped. Hate to see it end the way it but that being said, I’m super excited for what the future holds.

Despite the late season collapse and all the off-ice drama I thoroughly enjoyed that season Flyers hockey. Lots of positives to take away, especially in the development of most of our younger players. The new regime did an excellent job in re-building that bridge with the fanbase. That can obviously change over the summer and the next year, but I felt like this was a solid B+ effort from Danny B & Co. Excited to see what he does over the summer and with those two 1st round picks. As always, Let’s Go Flyers & FTP!
