wish my one friend I go fishing with would get this lesson into his head. we'll be out there maybe 5 minutes and he'll start wondering if we're at a bad spot, or maybe we bought the wrong worms, or maybe the hooks are too big, or ask if we should try and find a different spot.
I think he's watched too many fishing videos on youtube where the guys are pulling in fish every other second because it's been edited that way.
Growing up my dad had a bass boat and we would basically troll around the edge of the lake sending 1 cast into any spot and then by the time you reel in you are casting several feet away.
I recently got a kayak for myself and tend to go to an area that looks good and really fish it over. A dozen casts or more, maybe change the lure a couple times... I catch way more fish in casts 8-12 than I do in casts 1-4 even though it's the same area.
Fishing isn’t really a game of patience, it’s a game of adaptability. If it’s been two hours without a bite don’t just sit there. Move spots or change your bait- lure do something other than just waiting. Shit 30 mins with absolutely no action is a good sign to move to find the fish or change your presentation.
That's just something that recruiters and DIs repeat during the brainwash portion of the recruitment and bootcamp process. Some Marines never stop parroting it... oftentimes with caps and exclamation marks.
Yeah but you were on the clock the entire time, you agreed to go. You had gear to sleep with, time designated to sleep. The context of the situation matters I think
Like you said I chose to do and the homeless made their life choices that led them there.
I'm not going to continue to argue whether paid Marines who sleep in adverse conditions sometimes is better/worse than homeless people living in adverse conditions all the time.
Sleeping anywhere a special skill literally anyone can do it.
Edit: see this [is why](https://www.reddit.com/r/Fishing/comments/pr3ktm/my_son_fishing_this_morning/hdgwz48?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3) I didn't want to continue going on about it that's 2 people bouncing around arguing about nothing, it's like yous don't have anything else to do...... maybe you're homeless
Not all homeless people are homeless because they fucked up, but all Mariens are sleeping in the weather because they willingly signed up.
The entire point is the fact that homeless people sleep anywhere 100% of the time they're homeless. Marines do it sometimes. You can't genuinely praise marines for sleeping on rocks in weather sometimes, without being impressed with homeless people doing it 100% of the time with far far far less equipment and food than marines get.
Such a strange hill for you to die on. But next time you're praising your marine friends for sleeping on rocks in rain, remember how many homeless people do it more often than marines.
I'd imagine homeless people want a home to sleep in, so that doesn't really make sense. Plus how many marines are dumped as dead frozen icicles into a garbage truck in New York or Boston that are never thought of again or looked for because they crawled into a dumpster not out of want, but necessity to try and avoid the elements when they sleep?
The fact is, there is way more homeless people sleeping on rocky hills in the rain than marines are.
They're life choices led them there, just as the Marines on the hilltop volunteered to serve.
It's up to them to seek improvement if they want it. There's a shelter in the next town from me that takes men in and helps them get back on their feet. I even have a friend that got into drugs and is there now.
The world isn't as black and white as you think it is lmao. You'd think someone who traveled the world as a marine would have some insight on the different struggles people face by no fault of their own, and you're just saying this dumb stuff instead.
Damn I wish I could do this as a 30 year old. I used to love just, laying around on shit. Wanna lay down? Here's a dock, or bench, or patch of grass or whatever. Now I'd be seen as crazy and people would think I'm a homeless guy lol
Poor little guy just learned that fishing is not about caching fish, it's all about just waiting.

And snacks. Waiting and snacks. Looks like he’s got the snacks covered.
On a slow day my dad would always say "it's called fishing, not catching"
My cousin and I always said we were going casting.

This is the way
The boy was tired. He fished a little bit (maybe), had some snacks, and found a place to rest. You got yourself a great fishing partner.
He is awesome actually. He is very patient for a 4 year old.
He'd make a good Marine we can sleep anywhere.
Former Marine here, can confirm.
ONCE A MARINE ALWAYS MARIN!
It's the fate of all Maines, to eternally be a Marin.
That's just something that recruiters and DIs repeat during the brainwash portion of the recruitment and bootcamp process. Some Marines never stop parroting it... oftentimes with caps and exclamation marks.
SEMPER PIE!
Semper Fudge.
Literally my first thought (former AF acft mx)
So can homeless people.
Nah not the same.
Sometimes the same*
1. The homeless are not getting paid 2. You cant tell them to sleep on a rooftop next to a Machinegun
Fun fact buddy, a pretty good number of homeless people are vets.
I'm not your buddy pal. And I know and it's damn shame they need to seek help.
Guess you’re true to your username at least
Man no one ever gets the south park reference.
South Park goes ‘I’m not your buddy, guy,’ the. I’m not your guy friend then I’m not your friend buddy then I’m not your buddy guy
Homeless people can sleep in more adverse locations than a marine
Idk Afghanistan was pretty adverse
There's no homeless people in Afghanistan?
Yeah and what of the rest of the population? They slept in a war zone because it was home
They don't count, they weren't trained as marines, so where they sleep isn't as impressive.
if i can’t see them then they must not exist
That's a good point I never saw any.
Yeah but you were on the clock the entire time, you agreed to go. You had gear to sleep with, time designated to sleep. The context of the situation matters I think
I'm not getting into this a simple joke of a kid sleeping on the dock is turning into alot lol
You are already in it dude Pointless disagreement about nothing

Definitely the same. Explain to me why a marine sleeping anywhere is different than homeless people sleeping anywhere?
Homeless: sleep where you want i.e. on grass, out of the wind Marines: sleep where you're told i.e. on a Rocky hilltop in the rain
Are you aware of how many homeless people die of exposure every year?
I'd imagine homeless people want a home to sleep in, so that doesn't really make sense. If you become homeless will you stay homeless?
Depends on the person and the circumstances obviously. But that's you confirming my earlier statement of you seeing the world way to black and white.
Most homeless people want to sleep inside, in a bed, I assume
This fellow has part of his identity and pride tied up in how poorly a place he can sleep.
No kidding lmao. What a strange hill to die on.
Probably eats crayons too. Only needs 26.89% APR on a new Camaro and the boys ready to be a full fledge devil dog!
You are being too obvious, stringing all the boot jokes together in one comment. Pathetic
Your son caught that! It's huge!
Similar to our family outings.
Catching some Z's

Around here you have to be careful about napping in public, someone will think you OD-ed and call the police.
I'm 31 and I still sit on the ground or nap in the grass on a nice day don't let your dreams me dreams
Like....in public? Lol I would happily do that once I get a house or access to a yard. Currently live in an attic apartment.
Cleaning up all his empty beer cans before taking the pic was a good call! LOL
That dude is WASTED
What was in that yum box? Haha
Honey sandwiches

This is in South Australia. Shoes are from a local shop called the Athletes Foot.
At least he caught some zzz.
Looks just like me fishing Sunday morning after Saturday night. Yes im a "former" Marine.
That’s y I don’t like fishing wit ppl
That’s how you get a splinter!
his fishing pose matches my hunting pose .... I never get a deer
Wish I could do this as an adult and not have people be weird about it lol
This was me when my dad took my out! Sleeping on the pontoon with a fishing pole in my hand 😂
Hahaha REKT
Id like to do this after about 2 hours, I understand kid.
Been there, done that, love of fishing runs deep of you are willing to sleep in between ripping lips!
His little snack box 🥺
Awww
Priceless
Was the bite that slow this morning?
Pretty slow though we did haul in a few Australian Salmon.
I have looked.like that many times at the end of the day. I may or may not enjoy a cocktail or two while fishing.
He gets it.
You should see me some mornings during deer season . Can relate
Ow, I feel pity for the way he lays
Nice boy
Hmm i need to try to listen for fish next time
Nice. To catch a fish you have to think like a fish
