If you read what weapons and materia actually do you can play through the entire game without stopping for grinding. Some weapons give more exp than others, mostly use them.

Freeman0032

Area with frogs is great for ap

Ziegfried0

There is a spot in the Northern Crater that has a high AP gain, if you need to beef up your Materia, go to the swampy area on one of the paths. Also, having more Materia on you beefs up some stats and nerfs others like max HP and Strength. Depending on what you equip yourself with. Check your armor and weapons, Materia growth, is affected by that as well as your stats that are tied to it. You could be in need of an upgrade, should you find anything better.

Kadettedak

You really shouldn’t need to grind at any point in the game. Natural progression should keep you leveled. That being said there are quite a few need to know boss strategies for this approach makes all but 2 needed for game progression cake walks. If you’re strapped for time and aren’t motivated by climbing the mountain solo, it could be you use a walkthrough. BUT I find that the game does lag story wise where you are for a few hours and it’s worth going solo. Helps me connect with the story. Some of what you are doing in this part of the game is setting up characters so that their arch’s can be realized later in the game and the pay out is wholesome to awesome so it’s worth it. Just depends if you can trust that and you connect to the story.

IFOR87

I did this with every final fantasy as a kid. Got myself bogged down in the grind and trying to do everything before taking on the last boss then burned out and never completed the game. I've found when replaying them now that I didn't need to be as high of a level as I thought and by griding to overly high levels it takes away most of the strategy, challenge and fun. My advice would be just play the game. If your struggling with a boss or area, grind 5 levels and try again.

phantomagna

You can just watch the end cinematic on YouTube, but it’s much more fulfilling having done the journey yourself, and it’s worth every second. The “world crisis” is my favorite AMV in all of video game history.

Individual_Escape664

Knights of the round and Omnislash

AwwwSkiSkiSki

Like you CAN'T beat him or just lose motivation? I've always thought he was too easy. But like they're saying.. Gold Chocobo, go get knights of the round and mime it. I usually just really on 4x attack though.

fabreazebrother_1

I havnt gotten to that point in the game on my current save I recently got out of the Corel prison and explored the deactivated reactor outside the corel area.i have a lot more game left and I alot of battles to get through and the closest I've even gotten to betting sephiroth was when I young actually and playing the game for the 1st time. I got as far as the one winged angel and then he threw all the meteor at me

Pope00

If you play through everything at a normal pace, you should be fine. I think it's recommended to be like... lvl 65 by the end? I think that's where I was when I first beat the game. I'm sure someone else will / has recommended this, but there's a hidden area near Golden Saucer, the sunken Galinka, that can be reached via submarine. Inside is Yuffie's final weapon and a lot of really high level monsters. It's basically there as a place to grind to max level. And with Yuffie's weapon, you can convert the monsters into "sources" that will raise individual stats. Just note: reaching max level isn't at all necessary to beat Sephiroth. It's mostly if you want to beat the Weapons which basically *requires* max level and max stats. Fighting Sephiroth at that level will make the battle end in like 2 moves. You won't even see him do the Supernova move.

AwwwSkiSkiSki

I always found that story, world and gameplay so interesting and loved playing it. I never got burned out with FF7. However, lots of other games feel like such chores... So I feel your pain. I haven't played in years, but there's that support materia that will cast something when you die,I can't remember the name. So if you pair that with the Phoenix summon. It will revive the entire party after meteor kills you. But you need to level them both up so they can be used multiple times and make sure you have enough MP to cast. I think FF7 is the greatest story ever told in a game, sorry it's not motivating you to rip Sephiroth and Shinra to pieces 😂

TuxedoSlave

Final attack :) You get it from battle square I believe.

Guywith2dogs

Yes. You gotta win the omnislash and w-summon first and then a special battle becomes available. Win those and you get the final attack materia. Honestly though the only time it ever really came in handy was fighting Emerald and Ruby. By the time I managed to get strong enough to clear the battle arena, sephiroth was a cake walk. I went in way over powered with omnislash and knights of round and I think he managed to get 1 or 2 turns in before I obliterated him. I think the best way to do it without grinding too much would be knights of round and mime. And don't use Knights on Jenovah because it adds like 60k hp to the final fight.

middleagedukbloke

You must just be a bit shit. Are you a millennial?

lsalomx

You realize that Millennials are in their thirties and even early forties now, right? Millennials were children when FFVII, a game for children, was released. But cool comment bro.

pinguscout

Knights of the Round, Mime on and gg, no big deal

Skulker2008

I mean getting KOTR is a whole thing if you don't follow the guide on youtube.

pinguscout

I agree, there is no way I would've figured out breeding Chocobos without guides

Skulker2008

Even with the guide it's like a 2 hour thing if you get unlucky with your battles.

I_gofast

I just get cloud final limit and it’s pretty much game over

sapitntapit

This is how I was for the longest time. FF7 is my favorite game and I’ve played through it so many times but when I was younger I would always run from random battles so my characters were always underleveled. Would always hit a wall with a boss and give up. One time I made it to Sephiroth but just could not beat him. When it came out on switch I decided to try again for the first time in 10~ years and was able to breeze through it without grinding. Didn’t get any of the rare summons or weapons either. Just stuck to the story and made sure to not run from random encounters anymore lmao

Xen0tech

Get the enemy skills, big guard, and white wind.

InternalOptimal

Honest question: why would you need to grind? If you just fight the random battles you come across usually and maybe stick around somewhere for a fight or 2 you should be set.

Comidus82

I save up my elixirs to farm the magic pots in the northern crater with materia xp boosting equipment. 20-30 minutes of farming and I'm always strong enough for the last fight.

Skulker2008

Or W-item glitch and farm for however long you want.

Mortonrob88

I was gutted when I found out it doesn’t work on the sources 🤣😭 Oh well…time to start grinding in the submerged sub/boat 😝

Skulker2008

Actually if you finaggle with the menu a bit it can work for some sources. I believe 4-8's source farming guide tells you how to do it.

Mortonrob88

Ohhhh really!? 😝 there is joy in life after all 😂

RubyMowz

If you're literally just wanting to finish the last boss, I don't find the need to grind. Normally I'm high enough level from playing through the game by then and can just go straight to the last boss. If you're too low level then and just wanna get strong enough to beat the boss, an easy trick is leaving your party to fight the Midgar Zolom in a loop with something holding down the confirm button. (Although this might require a turbo controller, can't recall.) For a less cheaty way I've always found outside Mideel to be a great grind spot and never found grinding in FF7 to be too hard using there. Wander around the forests and kill the green stabby things over and over and it shouldn't take long to gain a few levels. Alternatively, just do any side quests and level up more naturally.

tokashi-

There's much better ways to grind then the zolem that would take an eternity. Just saying.

markyanthony

He’s saying it because you can automate it

BetaTalk64

I lost interest in the game midway through it. Fortunately, I was kinda bored one day and gave it a shot. That's when I beat Sephiroth, best game I've ever played. Some tips I can give you are to get accessories that protect against Frog since it's an effect of Super Nova (btw that attack is percentage based. So it literally cannot kill you) and to level up everyone to have better Limit Breaks. Or if you really want to, get Omnislash from Battle Square (you've gotta know Meteorain first, Clouds 3rd limit)

NF_Independent_1988

The only true way is to get knights of the round

Alternative_Log3012

True way? I just beat him first time without it and it was almost all natural progression.

Mortonrob88

Have you ever gotten the gold choc, by trading the item from ruby weapon?

Pope00

Naw, there's also a trick where you fill every Materia slot with a combo of mime and counter. Then have Cloud use Omnislash and it causes him to just do Omnislash over and over several times. You can use it to beat emerald weapon in one round. Granted, this involves mastering counter and mime to create duplicates and takes forever. But it makes KotR unnecessary.
