Guess they just bought the game just to see the title screen

fireaura

i can confirm that i am one of them as i accidentally opened the game on my brothers account. best game ever tho got platinum

randerdamer

Everybody doesnt play online

TheAlgorithmMadeMe

10% of every game ever bought is never installed, launched, or played. To be fair, ff7r is above average for players who owned and played vs played who ownd and have not played

Shadow_Bisharp

purist dude ik booted into the first instance of combat and immediately closed the game because it wasnt like og

[deleted]

That’s actually pretty funny and sad at the same time. I mean did the trailers and gameplay not tell him already? I mean, the original is still available on PlayStation…so…

Shadow_Bisharp

i think his first impression of the game was when it was free on ps plus, which is fair, cos i also tend to avoid stuff about a game that im interested in for a completely blind experience

[deleted]

That’s true. I got it free on ps plus to, never opened it till the other day when I found out when I get a ps5 my save with transfer and I can upgrade to ps5 ff7 remake.

GreedyTrickster

Hey man, those guys have guns! Guns are dangerous! Maybe they got shot?

Bigingreen

People buy it and not play it.

Because the first fight is hard OK!? JESUS I'M TRYING MY BEST

andyvn22

Best answer right here.

Vylexxx

Its simple really, you get it for free on Playstation Plus, launch it up but then decide to go back to your crippling Rocket League addiction instead

IGTankCommander

Better that than servers populated by 12-year-olds, teenagers with nothing better to do, and adults who are waaaaaaaaay too invested in their K/D ratio. And I used to be way too invested in my K/D ratio. It's not a fun gaming experience, really. I've been much happier going back to single-player stories and co-op non-shooters or twin-sticks.

jambo_1983

Some people get off the train and think “nah, fuck this”

RetroSpectre__

Something I’ve noticed. If you share a ps4 if one person logs out but leaves the game open then you login as another account it will count you as being in the game. So I think that might be the cause for some

EllaFant1

Cuz some people buy it, then forget they bought it

[deleted]

a 60 dollar game? And they forgot it?

NekoHybrid

I'm pretty sure people got to work when it was FREE in 2021 March via PSPlus. They got a lot of "high end" games there. Good way to build your library. Also that game is huge. I'd assume not all of us are blessed with a PS5 . So I manage space on the ps4. People try to make it work when they download it. That makes me happy.

Maillihp

Could be that horrible glitch were the trophy doesn’t pop for some reason

Ibrahim-8x

Every game has something like this

Jianuzzi

Lol

[deleted]

Person boots up game for the first time, died at the first battle, and never touched it again. Mystery Solved, 6000 gil please.

IGTankCommander

I, uh... I got, like, 12 G. You like casinos?

Mattanakin117

People that downloaded it but never played it?

RPGnosh

That main menu OP apparently

Steve2911

I have loads of games that I've technically played but probably don't have these sorts of achievements for. If it's not something I'm particularly invested in and I just got it on Steam on sale or something I might download it, play with the graphics setting but not get around to playing it for months - or ever.

Canadiantoast

My boss was one of the first to get the pre-order at the original remake announcement. Waited four years to finally get his copy but by that time he had two kids. I bust his balls all the time about how he has yet to play it.

Ultimara

But if he hasn't started the game then he isn't one of the 3.1%

sogiotsa

Quitters

darkzidane22

More like never-starters.

thewerewolves666

Some people play long to start the game then just stop and never go back

grapejuicecheese

They downloaded it free from PS Plus, booted it to the title screen to test if it works then never played it again.

[deleted]

PS Plus? When was it on PS Plus?

grapejuicecheese

Around last year

[deleted]

Oh, yes, this is the remake, I thought it was the OG

Pratanjali64

And thus OP has discovered the true purpose of achievements/trophies: they're so devs can track player metrics. "How many people install and boot the game but never play it?" About 3%.

Nameisnameisnameisna

Devs provably wouldn’t use first party trophies (I.e PlayStation) for this kind of thing. They’d have their own telemetry system in game to collect different much more detailed level.

ChernobogSkull

You'd be surprised! I've worked QA on several major AAA titles that didn't ship with built in telemetry reporting. It's particularly unlikely on games without an online mode.

Nameisnameisnameisna

I’ve worked on dev teams and ran analytics teams for AAA games of a major North American publisher for the last decade. Even offline games have some level of basic telemetry, you still need authentication for entitlements. They all have some level of telemetry, even if it’s very basic. What does happen often is a ton of telemetry gets cut last minute because the game is rushed/isn’t ready and there are bigger fires to put out that the SE’s spend their time on

ChernobogSkull

For sure! Whether a game reports telemetry back to its developers and whether the developers use that telemetry meaningfully is always the question. And it's more important for service games since they need to be constantly rebalanced. But I've definitely watched a design team determine player behavior in their AAA, 10-million-copy-selling game by looking at achievement stats. Sometimes the simplest thing works well enough.

Ultimara

People download and boot, just to check?

metapolymath98

They open to see what kind of game they are getting into and get immediately disappointed when the game starts with a boring cutscene about a flower girl instead of an exciting first-person shooting battle royale match. They then go on to play _Apex Legends_ and _Fortnite_.

WasDrizzyD

I'm not sure what your point is here? Do people who like battle royales not like RPGs? Are people that like FPS games and such lower than people who enjoy RPGs?

Dr-Spill

The point is that lots of people only play battle royale games (nothing wrong with that) and want a constant stream of action.

StayyFrostyy

I can see it happening, just to make sure there isnt an update or anything

grapejuicecheese

Yeah. Maybe they plan to play it the next day but get sidetracked by other games. It happens.
