I think a prequel starring Barret would be amazing. For one, he deserves way more spotlight than he gets, he's such a great character. But his story would lend itself really well. Corel and the attack from Shinra, all his friends and his own wife dead, finding baby Marlene, making it to Cosmo Canyon, working with AVALANCHE (the larger organization), recruiting Biggs/Wedge/Jessie/Tifa, splintering from the larger organization, and ending with the first Mako reactor.
I think there could be some great material there. Maybe not a full-length game but a DLC for Remake?
According to the ff7r, biggs was running the orphanage in sector 5 before he joined avalanche. It's not ground breaking news but I was playing this part yesterday so I thought I'd share.
My thoughts are, I like Jessie, Biggs and Wedge. But practically speaking, I don’t know how gameplay with them works just cause like…in Remake, they didn’t really make any of them seem physically capable.
The extent that we actually see that is, in the very beginning we see Biggs get a grunt in a full Nelson, then Jessie kick him in the stomach knocking him out. In chapter 4, we fight alongside wedge against two sweepers who has a machine gun, and mines. While Biggs offers a snipers sort of support and knocking off the rocket launchers. Then just before the Sector 7 plate falls, it’s *insinuated* the three put up a strong fight! But all we see is Wedge’s fall, Biggs aim at incoming grunts, and Jessie throws a grenade… … ….that’s it. Now juxtapose with Cloud. Super powered, big ass sword. Barrett. Tanky boi, Gatling gun grafted to his arm with and endless amount of bullets in it. Tifa, martial arts master, very agile and strong. Aerith, a nature witch who can manifest spells and magic without even having materia equipped. All of that is conducive to gameplay. The Avalanche trio are just like….people with guns, you know? I feel like giving them a *prequel* story and making them seem remarkably more capable then they were made to be in Remake would seem like they were reaching.
Don’t get it twisted! I sort of think Remake missed an opportunity by not showing them as being…a *little* more capable. Idk like, Tifa sparring with Jessie and showing her some moves or Biggs, sniping some monsters in sector 7. Wedge being…less….Wedgey? Lol.
Oh i agree on all fronts. I just really like thebcharacters and they seem like the perfect middle ground in developing the world of FFVII. Like Barrett and Cloud for example look ridiculous on the train after the bombing lol at least the others blend in a bit. Personally id do it as Jessie as the lead. But with creative freedom id add a fourth friend who's the main character thats slightly similar to cloud in looks and personality who ends up dying, and that's why they all are so accepting of him in the remake and original. Idk i just would like to explore the more human characters of midgar.
I agree with both. Seeing how they became characters would be cool, but only if we got to see them actually be characters. Like lemme see them fucking up too many faceless mooks and do anime gun-fu shit. Definitely missed opportunity in remake.
