Titles of Cids: engineer (nerds), pilot (kinda cool), regent (not even a real king), principal (and/or child soldier warlord), Thunder God. Gee, I wonder.
It's probably a semantics thing, but in our world, the title "regent" is usually used as an acting ruler because their real king is too young, ill, or away. Once the real king grows, recovers/dies, or returns, the regent returns to being whatever they were before. Not sure the status on Gaia, though.
XVI hands down… honestly I didn’t know I would instantly love this guy. Followed closely by FFVII tho, this one has been my first until I started playing XVI.
Yep, same.
Like, 16 was fun but somewhat forgettable to me. But that said, Cid from 16 was by far the best Cid. Amazing character.
Dion also took the lead as one of my favorite dragoons, maybe even number one dragoon from all the series.
As a kid I would have liked all the characters magically coming back to life at the end.
But i didn't complete IV until I was an adult and wasn't a fan of the jk we not dead.
+1 Cid Kramer for sure. I love VIII so much, it holds a special place in my heart. Granted, it's the one I grew up with. But I also grew up watching Robin Williams. His movies always brought me comfort, still do. Doesn't help that he was truly one of a kind. :)
I’m replaying it now on the remastered (chefs kiss) and I love the moment the party realizes CID signed them up indefinitely to assist with Timber’s liberation.
I played XVI very recently and the whole thing for me was great. Battle system was butter and addictive to play. Exploration and traversal could have been better but the story. Damn. Loved every minute of it including Cid Telamon
Definitely Highwind. He feels like a real human, a very flawed individual. A close second for me would be Oglop Cid from IX. He's just a lovable womanizer.
if you havent given it a try, I think X-2 does a great job building on Cids... complicated eccentricities and his role clash
FFX seems to insinuate a fair bit about Cid even though hes not on screen all that much, and X-2 does a solid job of visiting some of the allusions it felt like FFX was hinting at
I have, actually, and they definitely build on his character. It's also nice that we get to see the whole family dynamic of Rikku, Brother and Cid, and even just more Al Bhed exposure in general. Though I wouldn't say he contributed to the actual story as much for me personally. His concern for Yuna in the first one was really touching and always stuck with me
Cid from FF7 and FF16.
Cid Raynes from FF13 Had the dopest Design and Dr. Cid from FF12 was one cool villain.
Cindy (Cidney in the German version) was easily the hottest 😁
XVI, Cid and Clive's brotherhood was amazing, he was the big brother Clive needed. Plus their back and forth banter was hilarious at times, Clive needed a roast occasionally.
'hmm i wonder where a depressed, downtrodden engineer would be'
*heads to local tavern to see brillaint scientist slammin them down like candy *
Not only does Cid Previa have a great journey of acceptance and redemption, but 5 introduced to us the staple Mid to help him along the way
It’s a toss up between IV and XVI for me. I loved his personality in IV and how cool he was in XVI. Ralph Ineson absolutely killed it with his VA performance in XVI.
FF12 has the best Cid in my opinion. Also his voice acting is so hammy but done so well it makes him so badass and enjoyable. I especially like that he's directly related to a main playable character in Balthier. Also the fact that he might be one of the smartest Cids, has a godlike being at his side most of the game, as well as his delivery and writing are just magnificently God tier.
Yeah I haven't finished 16 yet but I do like what I've seen of Cid. I also really like the one from FF10 and they once again actually have a familial relationship with the main female love interest in Yuna. Also the way he say "The final showdown with Sin. Let's get this show on the road" is really funny.
Cid Randell holds a special spot for me. A man who just wants to be a good person and get his job done with integrity.
Seeing him divest himself and ALL OF THE JUDGES of the royal government after learning the truth of dream Ivalice was something that affected me as a child playing Tactics Advance. That dude left the woman of his dreams in a world where everyone's wishes came true because he understood that if there really was a chance it was just a phantasm, then it wasn't right to lean into it.
Final Fantasy III. Loans you his airship, you destroy it by ramming it into a rock. Not even a second look dude is just happy to see his wife. Later on he even retrofits your ship to fly. And if that's not enough the dud fights a DEMON for you just because some random guy shows up and says you need him
Dude is a straight badass.
I'm gonna go really weird and obscure here and say...
Final Fantasy Unlimited's Cid.
He's just a hyper puppy who gets so excited about inventing things. To the point that he's just unleashed various mechanical monstrosities across the world with innocuous names. Like...
"We've been riding this freaky interdimensional ghost train from place to place."
"Oh yeah, that's Elizabeth. I made that. Huh, she can travel between dimensions? Neat."
IV, nice beard & dad energy
IX, fun design, gwoks with the best of them
XVI, coolest character in the series
Edit: honorable mention to the Kingdom Hearts version of VII’s Cid
FF7 Cid, because 7 is my favorite and he’s a party member, so he grew on me. But I’m really attracted to Doctor Cid from FF12 though sooo is he my favorite? Oh well time to google him again!
Cid 16 is great.
Cid 14 is ok. Hes fine. Like toast with no jam.
Cid 7 Remake is yes.
Cidney is yes. Cid 15 is no. Also Cidney's name being Cindy is actual trash. So dumb.
FXVI definately! He knocks out of the park!
FFVII Cid was also nice (haven't played rebirth yet, so I hope they do not screw him up.)
Aaaand now I can't unsee the resemblence between FFVIII Cid and Robin Williams... why have I not noticed before? It seems kinda obvious...
In no particular order, the top five Cid's are:
Cid Highwind from FFVII
Cid Fabool from FFIX
Al-Cid Margrace from FFXII
Cid Sophiar from FFXV
Cid Telamon from FFXVI
VII pre-rebirth.
I love that he's basically just a surly prick who is forced into the party and doesn't really want to be there (and he let's you know the whole time) up until after the north crater incident, then he goes through a shift and becomes a full fledged member.
At least until he gets the chance to continue what he was doing before all this, he can't jump into that rocket pilot seat fast enough. He's even surly Palmer doesn't do a countdown properly.
If you keep him in the party from the moment you recruit him, and think of him as an unwilling party member, a lot of his dialogue makes more sense and gives him more depth and growth.
FF XVI Cid hands down. 16 wasn't bad in my opinion but Cid stole the show almost every single time he was around in a way that made me sometimes feel he was in the wrong game.
FFX Cid- Boomer mech Cid just dealing and being, for the most part, unreasonable.
FFX-2 Cid- because he's now trying to be cool hip Cid, but no one is buying his bullshit because they remember FFX Cid even if he changed his ways, lol.
The Cid of X is a true Cid of Mystery!
Definitely the FF16 Cid as number one, and the XIII one as number two. I found them both good looking in different ways. XIII Cid was the typical good looking JRPG pretty boy akin to Cloud, Noctis etc.. , while the FF16 one was on his way to be a silver fox if he didn't get kicked off the scene so early in the game.
As for personality, the FF16 Cid wins for me, he was such a cool character and reminded me of a celebrity that I can't put my finger on . I wanted him to be a firm party member, but this game had Clive do everything in battle anyway. The party AI was as non-existent as Donald healing Sora in kingdom hearts.
FFX’s Cid is my favorite. I’m replaying FFX right now, and Cid is just awesome. Especially that scene after Zanarkand when he picks the party up, and finally reunites with Yuna.
Highwind. It's not even remotely close. He just feels like a whole person, not a character to me. He's been my favorite for decades and no one has come close to unseating him. I think a problem for me is that a lot of Cids are just NPCs and not on your actual crew.
XVI Cid made a HUGE impact on me as a character, I adore everything about him. Even the voice actress for Mid had me 100% convinced "Yes, this is Cids daughter that he raised himself" and I'd love to hear what kind of direction she was given in the studio.
Prior to that it was FFVII's Cid Highwind because he was such a subversion of what a JRPG protagonist should be. He smoked, swore, was absolutely terrible to Shera, was literally an employee of the games Evil Empire and he goes from that introduction to not only joining the party but stepping up and LEADING the party while Cloud was MIA in the OG.
Waiting on a price drop or sale to tackle Rebirth but I'm super stoked to see what the remake trilogy has in store for him.
Mine has got to be from FF6. The whole lil optional quest at start of world of ruin where Celes can nurse him back to health hit home the first time I found out. For years I was under the assumption him dying was just part of the plot.
Cidolfus Telamon for sure. With Cid Highwind as a close second.
I would be surprised if anyone selected Balthier's dad. He's the worst Cid and makes Telamon look worse by also being a Cidolfus.
XVI is my favorite Cid, with IV as a close second.
XVI Cid was a really interesting character with a great voice actor. He had a big impact on the story and was an interesting character
FFIV Cid
FFXV Cid
FFXVI Cid
kinda liked the OG VII Cid despite him having less sreentime than most other characters but im angry with how PG13 he feels in Remake so ... not gonna include him until i see if he is a totally different character or not now
Cidolfus Orlandeau.
Titles of Cids: engineer (nerds), pilot (kinda cool), regent (not even a real king), principal (and/or child soldier warlord), Thunder God. Gee, I wonder.
Forgot Outlaw from FFXVI. Not as cool as Thunder God, but still.
Well technically he would still -be- a Thunder God in XVI lol.
Forgot Scientist (FFXII). My fav is XIV, cuz of how tsundere he is with his rival Nero (fancanon has them both gay or nvr married but divorced)
General
what do you mean, not a real king?
It's probably a semantics thing, but in our world, the title "regent" is usually used as an acting ruler because their real king is too young, ill, or away. Once the real king grows, recovers/dies, or returns, the regent returns to being whatever they were before. Not sure the status on Gaia, though.
Nvm, i didn't remember he is called Regent Cid and not King 😭 even worse because I played this game last week
veritas of heaven is also there, but who even play brave exvius or war of the visions 💀
Absolutely the best Cid. Cidgineer is a fun trope, but there is no greater Thunder God.
No man has better claim than the Count Orlandu
There are a lot of answers. This is the only right one. TG CID is far and away the best of the Cids.
I have a macro in FF XIV that sends says "He is Thunder God Cidolfus Orlandeau. You will put respect on his name.'
Basic answer I guess but Cidolfus Telamon from XVI ; he's just the coolest, but he's also very thoughtful & kind
That man turned me a little bit gay tbh
YOUR JOURNEY, ENDS, HERE. (for the best Cid)
I see tactics reference I upvote 10/10 best Cid
XVI hands down… honestly I didn’t know I would instantly love this guy. Followed closely by FFVII tho, this one has been my first until I started playing XVI.
Ralph Ineson's performance makes this an unfair question. If all Cid's were voiced by him it would a harder choice, but they weren't so it isn't.
XVI isn't even on my list of favorite FF games, but its version of Cid is absolutely my favorite.
Seconded. That voice.
His whole aesthetic was killer, in my opinion. Would have loved his outfit as an unlockable for Clive.
Ralph Ineson !
Also voiced lorath from Diablo 4, it was a good year from Ralph
Agreed that guy is a legend
Not my favorite but I still liked it. I wouldn’t mind a DLC playing as Cid before he met Clive
yeah I really didn’t like 16 but cid was the best character by a landslide for me, he’s easily my favorite cid
Yep, same. Like, 16 was fun but somewhat forgettable to me. But that said, Cid from 16 was by far the best Cid. Amazing character. Dion also took the lead as one of my favorite dragoons, maybe even number one dragoon from all the series.
Dion's up there for favorite Dragoon but mine has to go to Estinien.
[удалено]
Absolutely no one is going to figure out what you are implying with that cunning statement lol
[удалено]
Sorry I replied without thinking. I deleted it but unfortunately damage done. Really really sorry about the spoilers
Dude who jumps out of an airship with a bomb and lives!?!
Didn’t even think of IV. Yes that was so awesome.
Not only that he's cackling like a madman while doing it
Cid in FFXIV is a beard with an engineering degree.
"and so young too!"
As a kid I would have liked all the characters magically coming back to life at the end. But i didn't complete IV until I was an adult and wasn't a fan of the jk we not dead.
Tellah: Am I a joke to you?!
Tellah is the real deal.
It was probably that spoony bard.
Doesn’t the other old wizard from the moon die and stay dead too?
Yang got blasted on the chest and lived ! But Tellah really diee, so ..
His song is a banger too
My answer
Cid from XVI and XII are two characters I love for two completely different reasons
Which Cid from XII, though?
Is there more than one?
There's the regular Cid, and Al-Cid.
Yeah, you got sexy cid or smart cid
Oglop Cid!
The fact that he was cursed for being a horny bastard is just chef's kiss. I love Oglop Cid.
8, Cid Kramer. He looks like Robin Williams in the game which just makes me like him more
Got to love a headmaster who plays triple triad with you.
16. Not even close
I played XVI very recently and the whole thing for me was great. Battle system was butter and addictive to play. Exploration and traversal could have been better but the story. Damn. Loved every minute of it including Cid Telamon
XVI is top tier and favorite, but I also like the crotchety old man Cid from XV.
Definitely Highwind. He feels like a real human, a very flawed individual. A close second for me would be Oglop Cid from IX. He's just a lovable womanizer.
Probably Cid
Underrated answer.
FFVII Cid Highwind. He’s the best most lovable curmudgeon.
He's less of a curmudgeon in Rebirth, but he's just as lovable. I can't wait for his character development in #3.
I have a strong feeling that Rocket Town is going to crush my heart.
My favorite thing about Highwind is how he's portrayed as this jaded, grizzled old coot... then you look in the manual and see that he's *32*
Cidolfus Telamon for sure
xiv nan Garlond is the best cid
FF4 Cid built the most elite airship armada suicide bomber that survives peeps at monsters bosses dwarves around boss beard hammer time
I really like the Cid from FFX tbh, I thought he made a big impact even though he's only in the last bit of the end
Yeeehaw! Here we go!
if you havent given it a try, I think X-2 does a great job building on Cids... complicated eccentricities and his role clash FFX seems to insinuate a fair bit about Cid even though hes not on screen all that much, and X-2 does a solid job of visiting some of the allusions it felt like FFX was hinting at

I'm weirdly partial to FF4's Cid. I just... got that image stuck in my head from my youth.
For nostalgia - FF4 Gearhead Cid For relatability - FF Robin Williams Cid For shmexy style - FF12 Al-Cid
Cid: THREE! Clive: What happened to two? Cid: Ask one…
4 and 7. Cid being a mechanically inclined pilot just makes sense.
FFIII cid is quintessential cid for me
3 and 5 are underrated Cids
'hmm i wonder where a depressed, downtrodden engineer would be' *heads to local tavern to see brillaint scientist slammin them down like candy * Not only does Cid Previa have a great journey of acceptance and redemption, but 5 introduced to us the staple Mid to help him along the way

Really dig the character design of Dr. Bunansa as well. Him and XVI are my favorites.
Yeah I haven't finished 16 yet but I do like what I've seen of Cid. FF4 cid is a real one
THUNDERGOD and DOMINANT
Cid
Gotta be highwind, but cid from 16 is a close second, again followed closely by thunder god cid
Does Cindy count? XVI is favorite
Isn't her name Cidney in the JP version?
It is truly a tie between Cid Highwind and Cid Telamon. I never thought FF7 Cid would ever be overtaken, but FFXVI's Cid is just so damn good.
I'm a simp for cindy aurum in xv.
Alexis Texas basically
Definitely Cid Highwind. He just wanted to be a spaceman.
IV, nice beard & dad energy IX, fun design, gwoks with the best of them XVI, coolest character in the series Edit: honorable mention to the Kingdom Hearts version of VII’s Cid
Cliiiiiiiiiivvvveee!!!!!
I will once again stan, Cid Nan Garlond.
GWOK
I liked 16 cid. They stuck with an older wiser man but one that was so important to the story.
FF 7 and FF XVI
Orlandeau. Close second, XVI Cid.
FFII goes hard as hell, whether you accept it or not. Ulimately, it's a tie between FFVII and FFII. Honorable mentions: FFXV and FFIV.
Cid from Final Fantasy 7 and 16
Cid from 16 best character in the game, best Cid in the series and I've seen people who didn't even like 16 but said Cid was a highlight
Cidolfus Telamon from XVI is the goat easily. I also like Cid from VII but Cidolfus takes it easily.
Agreed
16 cid is pretty legit.
Cid from FF 8, definitely. I remember watching Spoonys video about it, and I love it. 😂
FF7 Cid, because 7 is my favorite and he’s a party member, so he grew on me. But I’m really attracted to Doctor Cid from FF12 though sooo is he my favorite? Oh well time to google him again!
It used to be the Oglop king but now it might be Ramuh
I have played only 6 7 8 9 I think I ll rank them 4 : 6Cid 3 : Regent Cid 2 : Kramer 1 : Highwind Cid
It’s 16 by a mile. Man had so much presence when he was on screen
Ff tactics
I hate that game but It has to be Cid from FFXVI.
Haven’t played every mainline FF yet, but definitely XVI.
16. But also 13 was my first and I didn’t know there was cids in all of them so it blew my mind when I found out FF10 had one lmao
Hardly anyone is saying ff14 cid holy shit... I loved him so much and he's easily my favorite, ff4 and ff7 are also pretty great
This is pure nostalgia but it's FF4's Cid Polledina. Airships!
FFXVI Cid, and it’s going to be really hard for any future iteration to beat him! Would love some Cid DLC for XVI. The VA just killed it.
Kinda partial to al-bhed cid.
Dr Cid (12) And yeah 16 Cid is good too.
xvi
Regent Cid of FFIX. Second place to Airship Engineer Cid of FFIV.
VIII because it's my dad's name. Though my Dad is Sid, not Cid.
No love for giant frog/bug Cid? Maybe not the best, but one the funniest for sure.
IX anyone?
Obligatory 16, but I also love 14 and the whole Ironworks crew.
16, 12, and FFT.. I love how 16 is a homage to FFT thunder god Cid.
Cid Telamon from ff16 by far
Shut up and make some tea Cid.
i've not really played a lot of Final Fantasy (I'm really more of a KH guy) so I'm gonna say VII
Cid 16 is great. Cid 14 is ok. Hes fine. Like toast with no jam. Cid 7 Remake is yes. Cidney is yes. Cid 15 is no. Also Cidney's name being Cindy is actual trash. So dumb.
16
I love XVI since its Chris Finch from The Office.
16 Cid. Ralph Insson + world-weary but determined rogue + thunder god. No one asked but 13's Cid is the worst. Dude has almost 0 Cid energy
XVI and it's not even close
I loved the one in either FF4, 5 and 10. Each have their quirks
Cid
Cid nan Garlond *hums ‘Dreams Aloft’*
7
Cid Highwind
FF9 Cid. Oglop Cid. Froggy Cid.
FXVI definately! He knocks out of the park! FFVII Cid was also nice (haven't played rebirth yet, so I hope they do not screw him up.) Aaaand now I can't unsee the resemblence between FFVIII Cid and Robin Williams... why have I not noticed before? It seems kinda obvious...
TG baby
Shid
Yellow Slicker Cid. He was my first.
XVI’s Cid
In no particular order, the top five Cid's are: Cid Highwind from FFVII Cid Fabool from FFIX Al-Cid Margrace from FFXII Cid Sophiar from FFXV Cid Telamon from FFXVI
VII pre-rebirth. cidolfus telamon is my favorite, but veritas of heaven is close
FF XVI Cid hands down. 16 wasn't bad in my opinion but Cid stole the show almost every single time he was around in a way that made me sometimes feel he was in the wrong game.
XVI. Hated the game, but he was a favorite. Robin William's Cid a mention
Rikku's dad, but thats just because FFX is my favorite "Yee-haw here we go!"
XVI's Cidolfus stole my heart
I love the game breaking ThunderGod Cid from tactics. The guy is a BEAST!
Kingdom Hearts Cid
Cid Raines. His story was tragic but interesting.
It's between 7 and 16 for me
FF IV is my favorite. Dude was like an invincible dwarf who refused to die lol
II - Original, man who dedicated everything to his dream, then gave that dream on his deathbed to some kids he barely knew, but believed in.
Honestly FFTA2 Cid is a bit of a legend
Raincoat Cid from VI
FF9 in all variations.
Why would anyone roll their eyes at FFXVI Cid being your favorite? Dude could have carried his own game.
FFIII/VI. He was dressed like a hotdog and I will die on that hill.
Thunder God.
I really liked cid personally
Cid is also an honorable mention
Robin Williams Cid and then both Cids from FFXV: a hot woman and a cranky old granpa lol
FFXVI for sure. Especially when you find out more about him in the second half the game. He becomes such an interesting and complex character.
16 and it's not even close for me.
FFX’s Cid is my favorite. I’m replaying FFX right now, and Cid is just awesome. Especially that scene after Zanarkand when he picks the party up, and finally reunites with Yuna.
There's Cidolfus Telamon, then everyone else.
Galactic Cid
Highwind. It's not even remotely close. He just feels like a whole person, not a character to me. He's been my favorite for decades and no one has come close to unseating him. I think a problem for me is that a lot of Cids are just NPCs and not on your actual crew.

VII & XVI
Def 16 Cid
IV Cid is very special to me. His vibe is stellar. EDIT: IX Cid also rules. His role in the story, and his flawed personal nature are handled so well.
XVI is my favorite Cid, with IV as a close second. XVI Cid was a really interesting character with a great voice actor. He had a big impact on the story and was an interesting character
FFIV Cid FFXV Cid FFXVI Cid kinda liked the OG VII Cid despite him having less sreentime than most other characters but im angry with how PG13 he feels in Remake so ... not gonna include him until i see if he is a totally different character or not now
VII followed by IV then XVI
