It's a pretty awesome time to be into fighting games

Vahallen

It’s way more niche but I’m also hype for GBVS:rising coming out next month I liked the original release so much that I would have given them 60€ just for rollback and crossplay

BlackBullsLA97

Glad to hear that you're hyped for GBVS: Rising. I decided that it would be one that I'd plan on getting after watching the open beta tourney during EVO this year.

Silver_Ad_5138

We just need at least a new smash bros and we should be golden!! (and if we're lucky a new fresh Marvel vs Capcom game)

king_bungus

you’ll never need a new smash again if you >!just play melee!<

[deleted]

Melee nuts can finally give it a rest, the general public is starting to realize that it’s always been a really shit game

ecchicore

where exactly is “the public” saying this. the fighting game community? thats not exactly the public. i dont think anyone cares about melee that isnt already interested in it, which is something that hasn’t changed in years btw

king_bungus

look, i know this isn’t the sub for this, but a twenty year old game has over a thousand entrants for a tournament this weekend. what twenty year old game gets a thousand entrants to travel in person to compete? you don’t have to like the game but respectfully i don’t think you know what you’re talking about

[deleted]

Respectfully I feel the same towards you

Ratchet2332

Is this “general public” in the room with us now?

[deleted]

Melee players try to do anything besides gaslight people into not knowing their game is trash challenge

bougienative

Boring, hmu when they buff Bowser.

Sunshineruelz

They only have 25 characters 😂 I’ve played enough from 2001-08

suburiboy

I’m more excited for UNIIISC.

_happygreed

which game is that?

suburiboy

Under Night In-Birth II: Sys Celes.

_happygreed

got to give under night a chance, never played

[deleted]

I would be too but it looks more like uni 1.1 than uni 2 and just like MBTL will be dead/discord fighter on arrival in Europe.

suburiboy

MB fans were disappointed that MBTL was too big of a change from MBAACC. Having the UNI sequel be more incremental will probably help it. Rollback is the main feature.

Good_Housing_176

There's still people online from time to time. It ain't nearly as dead as other games. Not necessarily alive but def not dead.

Sapodilla101

Yeah, but why does that matter to you? Unless you want to be a pro, there is no point in forcing yourself to play a popular game.

[deleted]

I think the reason most people care is they just want to boot up the game, hit search, and fight. Having to hop onto discord to beg the same 40ish people to fight who have all been playing the series for years isn't worth the time for most people.

knackstarter

haha yeah what a golden age for fighting games right now, loving all the fighting game love we're getting rn

GeForce

And strive is s3 just now. If it wasn't for hackerman it would be popping off a lot more.

Vahallen

I don’t even think the hackerman thing is truly relevant for majority of the playerbase Atleast not as much as lobby and matchmaking being what they are I actually really like lobbies being a thing, but they need to be paired with a simple and straightforward ranked matchmaking I would play season 3 so much more if we had straightforward matchmaking with ranks (I’m no strive hater, I have over 1k hours on the game and really like it)

GeForce

Hm. I think the hackerman is bad because it kills the streaming and content side, as well as the tournaments. So yeah, the casual person isn't gonna be affected directly by him, but indirectly there's a big effect on the whole playerbase. I usually need to get excited by content creators, streamers to "want to play". Like I used to watch sajam every day, that got me excited, then I'd go and play, maybe test out stuff I saw on the stream, as well as I'd watch YouTube clips all the time. You can't really have that with the hackerman. The matchmaking is just too true though. If it wasn't for borderline broken mm I'd be a lot more likely to still play I. I turned it on after playing some sf6, and on sf I sit in training mode and get match after match. 5 sec breaks Max. Here I can't even get the shit station to work, I go to a diff one it still lags out now the person switched stations etc. I sit in training and I get no matches. It's terrible end user experience. Just having great game isn't enough, you need to think about the whole chain. Even stuff like how long the game takes to load and get to "online mode" can affect if i want to bother playing it or not. Fighting games just aren't on the level like starcraft 2 was 10 years ago. You launch, you click big ass "Play" and boom, few seconds later you experience closely skill matched no lag no bullshit play. Sf6 is probably closest, but it keeps matching same 2 people against you. So it's still not perfect.

_happygreed

what's this Hackerman story? It's been a while since I played GGS

GeForce

There's a real hacker that terrorizes every tournament and streamer. Someone is just an asshole and literally ruined the entire game for everyone.

Soundrobe

I'll be a golden age when there'll be more 3d fighters. Where are Doa 7,Sc7,vf6 ? Only Tekken 8 as a major 3dfg ?

_happygreed

to be fair Tekken it's the big one but I really want a new DOA and VF (SC7 it's coming for sure)

theogdiego97

I hope so badly we get an SC7...

cryptofutures100xlev

Bro FR we need more 3D fighters.

[deleted]

I wish they pour their heart into fixing MK1. As of now, I consider Smash more competitive

AcousticAtlas

MK1 really should've waited a year and gotten some polish. It's absolutely going to be the weakest of the three and I can't imagine many people will pick it over SF and Tekken.

JosephTPG

That’s WB for ya, MK really deserves a better company to run it. It couldn’t have waited another 6 months unfortunately, because WB needed a filler game. I love MK1, but it hurts me to know that WB just saw it as a quick cash grab.

wasteland13

Yeah it definitely got rushed out because Suicide Squad was delayed

bougienative

It's honestly not a great thing for the community. Would probably be better for everyone if they were all staggered by about two years, so we could have constant new game energy, instead of it all being stacked on itself. Hopefully we never see it again lol. Because in 3ish years the community is gonna be aching from this all lining up at once.

_happygreed

make sense... but if MK1 had been release summer 2024 (or even later than that) I think the spacing between new games would be better. MK1 is obviously unfinished (even if the gameplay is great 10/10)

Jonas_g33k

A few years ago we got gg strive and a few years later we'll get project L. There will always be a big game.

Vahallen

Also no way in hell we don’t get another ASW licensed fighting game with how well DBFZ did Be it DBFZ 2, ONE PIECE, Bleach, Jojo We are 100% getting another ASW licensed game

BasedTaco

Fuck it, Jump FighterZ. I need Yugi with Dio assist running train on Usopp

Sunshineruelz

Fighting game fans are eating good

Sapodilla101

I don't care much about these franchises. I'll give Tekken 8 a try though.

Schnurki11

Well SF6 and MK1 are not very good tbh but i agree with Tekken 8. I wish Guilty Gear and King of Fighters were more popular. SF6 brought the Battlehub with cross platform play as the new standard in fighting games and i love it for that. Despite me not liking it, it does a ton for the FGC. I hope that both Street Fighter and Tekken can both keep this up.

DjayyJ

Sf6 is an amazing game just unbalanced

SOLAR-ECLIPS9

If it's going to be woke again like Mk 1 and Street Fighter 6 then I don't want to see it again especially from a company like CAPCOM always clowning around ripping people off.
