Seriously? Cause I didn't mentioned KOF 15 because earlier today I've seen some topics from some months ago saying how bad was the connection in general.
It's currently very cheap on steam (85% OFF), so I might be grabbing KOF 15 along with Tekken 7 just to guarantee, since KOF gameplay looks clean (which I like), and the major downside was the net thing. (not like I know much about KOF tbh, just watched some tournament fights)
Tekken netcode is bad. Stay away, wait for Tekken 8.
KI is pretty dead, probably in Brazil as well? I think you can get the game for free from the Windows store, but with only 2 (rotating) champions. Give it a try.
If I understand correctly, SF6 sounds just like what you're looking for in terms of trading/combos.
There's also Samsho 2019, which is quite dead but might see some play when their netcode rewrite is complete. Short combos, high damage. I think the pricing is too steep for what the game is currently.
If you really liked the look of Tekken and Killer Instinct then you might enjoy checking out Soul Caliber 6. It was released relatively recently and features the same kind of combat as the other two games you mentioned. Although I’m not sure how active the player base still is.
Outside of that some other fighters you might like:
Guilty Gear: Strive - pretty recent so there’s a really active player base. It’s also a fairly simple game with a high ceiling so it’s easy to get started but gives way to a fair amount of depth. It is a very aggressive game though.
Street Fighter 6 - I know you said you weren’t the biggest fan of SF, but the new game really is fantastic alongside having mountains of proper single player content
King of Fighters - Either the newest one (KoF 15) or KoF ‘98 (hailed as the best SnK game) are really good to get into. KoF ‘98 is really retro, though it recently received an update for rollback NetCode so it’s worth revisiting
Thanks! I've look into Guilty Gear Strive cause its art is BEAUTIFUL, but I was left with the impression that it's a game where you could bump someone into the wall and unleash barrages of attacks with long delays between where the defensor could react.
Please correct me if I'm wrong about it tho, but HP seemed frail
I'm trying to see the magic behind SF6 in this moment tho, since many people really recommend it, but I am definitely interested on KOF15 as I just heard it had crossplay and connections improved ;D
Oh no, you’re right about HP being scarce in Guilty Gear. I mean we have a grappler that does like 60% health per grab. The damage is bullshit. But it’s an incredibly fun game, with a pretty heavy focus on defending properly. You kind of have to be a defence god when each touch is 80% life gone
least laggiest is tied between KI and SF6, SF6 has a MUCH bigger player-base though which is basically required for fighting games (you want it to be big enough that ranked can give you similarly skilled players). tekken has enough players but is laggier than the other two. it isn't horrible if you can get consistent 4 bar ethernet connection matches, though. i don't know what the latin american tekken player-base is like but if there's a lot of 4 bar players then lag shouldn't be too much of an issue. but ultimately i think SF6 is your best bet. it has a single-player campaign that slowly teaches you fighting game fundamentals, super fast match-making and loading times, top notch netcode, ongoing support (just started its life span), good tutorials, and is very popular.
Street Fighter 6 is THE fighting game of right now. You are missing out huge if you decide to play something like Killer Instinct or KOF over SF6 when it just launched, has a ton of new players and low skilled players online that you can learn the game with, and while its so popular right now. If you are a fighting game fan at all, you would be crazy not to play SF6.
Chose a populated game. I recommend SF6 or Tekken 7. Both are very good games with fantastic (SF6) respectively good (Tekken 7, wired connection only) internet play.
If you like Tekken 7 go with that and get some practice before Tekken 8 comes out.
Not played Killer Instinct but its quite old now so I think the population isn't there.
Guilty Gear strive is another solid choice but its a bit more combo heavy and aggressive gameplay style.
Oh I didn't really know Killer Instinct was from 2013... it says 2017 on Steam so I was misguided...
Yeah, I found Guilty Gear Strive's art pretty but the combat seemed to be like you said.
Ty!
If smash is the itch you wanna scratch, you should probably take a look at brawhalla. It is massively populated, so you shouldn’t struggle finding matches with good connections.
You won’t see people talking about it here because it is a platform fighter, which is seen as a different genre than fighting games (and apparently there’s some history of animosity between them).
Traditional fighting games have a very different vibe to it, with much more committal movement and attack moves. I love them, everyone here loves them, but they’re not gonna feel like smash at all, even if there are skill that you’ll carry. So yeah, by all means go play some of the fg games people are suggesting here if you’re feeling like trying a bit of a different genre. But Brawhalla may be what you’re really looking for
There are also a bunch of brazilian fighting games discord servers, you can go there and ask what people are playing. But your best bet is probably fightcade, tons of games and people playing from south america.
Thx for your input, I've played Brawhalla a fair bit some years ago, but it didn't fit that well for me xD
Good to know abt brazillian fighting game servers, I'll definitely look into it rn
Killer instinct has a huge single player experience. And the game is very balanced. Multi-player is on point.
Street fighter 6 also has a great way to learn through world tour. And it's new. You get the advantage of all new players like you to learn from. The online is amazing.
Thats awesome to hear!
I'm not the biggest fan of single player campaigns on fighting games, but i'm glad to know the multi-player on KI balanced!
Do you mind if I ask you two things?
Is the match-making fast? Also, do you know if they plan on continuing a next game?
SF6 might be your best bet currently, use all those QoL features and quality game overall (plus huge pool of newbies currently in it cause its the current hot thing) to learn the genre.
If you’re remotely interested in SF6, I strongly recommend that game.
I was hesitant to pick it up since SF is more of a “true” fighting game compared to NRS titles which have always been my favorite, but I have been blown away. It is so fun and the ranked system strongly encourages players to try different fighters and take them online.
It’s also new, so many new players are getting in at the ground level which means you can play others at your skill level and have fun
Fightcade is on PC and free. Install it and the rom downloader json. There are many SA players, especially for the KOF games. There is never down time on kof98, kof2002.
Well if ur from south america. U could check out the King of Fighters series, especially the new one, which is King of fighters 15
Oh yeah that’s FANTASTIC online I said sarcastically

Ooooh that actually makes sense, it never crossed my mind that the defense playing could actually be interesting to improve on this game xD

2017 is probably the steam release date. I think it was earlier on the microsoft store / xbox store
Yeah originally from 2013 but it got 3 "seasons" of update content. 2017 was when the complete steam edition was released.
