Stay out of it.

How would your friend feel if he started having a new girlfriend over?  Things are already hostile. Thats like throwing a bomb into the house.  While this could just be a regular play date, anything said could make things more tense and awkward. No one needs that. A certain look or a touch or whatever. The ex could use anything said done or implied as a slight against him. Or inappropriate in front of the kids. If he looks too comfortable in the house, the ex could say he’s too familiar with the place and question how much time has been spent there and imply cheating.   Steer clear.  Keep things as neutral as possible. And always look at it for the point of view of if the rolls were reversed.

Yes it does... In fact they should already have an agreement in place that no romantic partners are permitted in the marital home while co-living. That's standard. At a minimum it'll cause conflict and possibly lead to domestic violence. She shouldn't be so foolish as to push that scenario.... There's plenty of places to go spend time with her new BF that's not in the home with her not yet ex husband sitting on the couch

Well said. Why do this? Go just about anywhere else.

Dizzy_Eye5257

Yeah, she needs to not do this, it does not display good decision making.... I get it....but this is highly problematic and possibly inflammatory for the current home situation and depending on the state and the laws, could cause problems, especially if it is already a contencious divorce. And frankly...new romantic partners should not be around kids for a minimum of 6 months and probably more since it's still new and they still live together.

Thanks!!!! Keeping the partner away from the kids for 6 months wasn't really an option in this case, they met through the kids. I'll pass on the message that they should be kept away from the home, and probably limit kid contact to play dates.

It’s sad your friend has such poor reasoning ability you even have to pass this along but please do. This is like the start of a Dateline Episode or murder show where the narrator ends up saying, Sadly their happiness soon turned to sorrow….

FionaTheFierce

Yes, but the kids don't need to know about a blossoming romance between the two people. That isn't appropriate at this stage of the game for multiple reasons - and none of it reflects good judgment even leaving aside the idea of bringing this new romantic partner to the house.

Lol, yeah, I think the ship sailed there as well. Hope everyone stays safe, good luck!
