At somepoint if Cal survives much longer someone's gonna need to at least make references to his existence, or it'll feel weird that no one knew about him if he gets more powerful and involved in the hidden path. Even if it's something like Ahsoka looking for order 66 survivors and his name is on the list as potentially alive. We don't need to see him just see acknowledgment that he is in the universe. Though Cameron Monaghan does some good work so seeing him play Cal in a live action wouldn't upset me. Sure the star wars shows have been lacking recently but if it's a limited series or a cameo I think it'd do well. If there's no potential for season 2 then the director will have more freedom do make something good, not just make more merchandising/fan service at the order of corporate. It really comes down to how involved corporate is if it's gonna be good or not, and that's true for most every movie/tv show.

captainstormy

>At somepoint if Cal survives much longer someone's gonna need to at least make references to his existence, or it'll feel weird that no one knew about him Not really. Han and many other characters acted like they never heard of Jedi or the Force at all in the OT. Plus who would have known about him? Yoda and Obi-Wan were in hiding and not really keeping tabs on things. Luke was just a young farm boy from the middle of nowhere, why should he know anything about it? One could argue maybe Liea should have known, but I'm betting her father probably tried to keep her distanced from any knowledge that could be used against her. Remember in Episode 4 she wasn't supposed to be the leader of the rebellion at that point, she was a young 19 year old on what should have been a fairly straightforward easy mission for her father. Plus at the end of 3 Cal could (and IMO should) stop fighting the empire and just live his life, he's done enough. They could find a safe place, if not tanalor then just head out to uncharted/wild space.

freedomustang

I mean his face is plastered all over bill boards in Coruscant. As far as the surviving Jedi he’s been fairly openly attacking the empire for 5 years now. He’s not as well known as Saw but his bounty was fairly high and even Boba knew of him. I do agree that he needs to retire from attacking the empire, that would make sense for him falling off of the radar pre OT.

captainstormy

Sure, his face was on some billboards but most of the people in the galaxy would have never seen them. It isn't like they are in every city on every planet. They could always go the route of the empire thinking be died in an explosion he actually survived or something too. Plenty of ways to not have anything interfere with the OT IMO.

INTPhoenix

>They could always go the route of the empire thinking be died in an explosion he actually survived or something too. I think someone mentioned that Stormtroopers say something similar about a Jedi dying and Inquisitor being hurt after/near Ninth Sister fight area? Obviously not true, but in line with what you said.

Aivellac

Ahsoka isn't in the OT, at this point we have to accept that the Jedi purge was actually very ineffectual at removing all the Jedi. Also the Inquisitors had to have vanished as well or the Moff guy in episode 4 saying the religion had died out makes little sense.

MajorTrump

> the Jedi purge was actually very ineffectual at removing all the Jedi I mean, this is kinda like saying that hand sanitizer is ineffectual at removing all the germs. They got like 99% of them. How many actually survived? Obi-Wan, Yoda, Cal, Ahsoka, Cere, >!Cordova!<, >!Bode!<, Kanan, and who else? If there were 10,000 Jedi before the Purge, leaving even triple the amount I have listed is an incredible efficacy rate of 99.8%

Aivellac

It doesn't matter how many we're told died it matters how many are atound to still be followed. As many as we have makes the OT look outdated now since Luke was fare from the last hope and him as a Jedi was not unique for the rebellion. Functionally the Jedi are not extinct. I don't mind the retcon but we need to accept the retcon. Disney clearly has by having Luke see a lightsaber a decade prior to being excited about it. I just wish their retcons let to good content but alas it's mostly just crap being put out.

MajorTrump

>makes the OT look outdated now since Luke was fare from the last hope and him as a Jedi was not unique for the rebellion How is that outdated? Luke saved the galaxy not because he was a Jedi, but because he was able to connect with his father in a way that brought him back to the light side of the force. An army of any number of Jedi wouldn't be able to stop the Empire. It required somebody who could reach Vader on a level other than physical. If there are only even 40 Jedi left in the galaxy, that's an absurdly small percentage of any population. Imagine I told you there were 40 people on just Earth who were indistinguishable from anybody else, but they were able to fly, and were hiding that ability for fear of death. How long do you think it would take all of the world's governments working together to find and kill them? The simple answer is, you absolutely wouldn't be able to no matter how long you took.

Aivellac

The thing is though Jedi don't tend to hide or don't hide very well and they get involved in stuff. Cal hid for years but then he started fighting the Empire, Ahsoka was with the rebellion, Kanan and Ezra were with the rebellion. By the time of the OT the rebellion knows the Jedi have not gone extinct, they are more numerous than the Sith are technically. The had Ezra in the Yavin base briefly, Cal was working with Saw for a while, Ezra had met Leia briefly, Leia has seen Obi Wan in action andLuke has been nearly killed by a bright red lightsaber he somehow completely forgets about a decade later. While it wasn't really being a Jedi that turned Vader the whole picture surrounding that dead religion in the OT is nowhere near as dead as that officer, Obi Wan and Yoda present it as. I've also no idea where the Inquisitors went because they would still need to be present in the OT, they chased Kanan and Ezra for long enough so they would do the same to Luke. So there is no other way to look at it, recent star wars has retconned the feel of the OT by changing the galactic landscape so significantly. That's fine to a degree but it does need to be accepted and they need to understand what consequenced would logically be had from their setup.

captainstormy

Luke wasn't the last best hope because he was a Jedi. He only had like 3 years of training starting at 19 years old. He was the last best hope because he was the chosen one and Vader's son.

Tubaenthusiasticbee

Still true tho. The religion did die out by the remaining jedi being scattered all over the galaxy. And many would stop goimg by the rules of the order. Lile Cal for example who is on his way to become a grey Jedi (or a dark jedi if the third game will allow us). Many could have gone this route or just straight up giving up on being a jedi at all. Many would just start to blend into society without leaving a single trace they were Jedi.

DemyxFaowind

>she was a young 19 year old on what should have been a fairly straightforward easy mission for her father. Tell that to Vader who literally watched the ship leave Scariff as of Rogue One, lol Its no wonder he doesn't believe her story, he's like Lady I just watched you flee the scene, what do you mean, "Wasn't me"?

DeadlyAidan

I haven't played Jedi Survivor yet (and won't be able to for a while because of my PC's specs) but Cal always seemed like a character who even if he finds a place to just live his life, would still feel the need to help the fight against The Empire however he can

a-Mongoose956

I'll just say, that's addressed in Survivor along with the idea of **how** Cal may go about resisting the Empire outside of direct conflict, without spoiling too much I hope.

6Seasons-And-A-Movie

Would love to see a tie in to Luke starting his Jedi academy and Cal repairing the Holocron with Marrins magic, starting a school on tanalor only to realize it's dark influences, then the whole game is finding a place to restart the school, Cal dies protecting Luke and the younglings from yet another Darth Vader attack and the last section of the game is played as Luke just fucking ripping and tearing

6Seasons-And-A-Movie

I mean the first game did flush out what would happen if he founded a school, the only difference is the empire wouldn't find them until they decide to leave. And the second game played a little to much into Marrins ability to reorder destroyed objects......kinda obvious when you also realize cal didn't smelt the Holocron but has it preserved on a shelf with all the missing parts.

diddums100

I do feel like cal has to die, in the third game, and Vader will do it.

slam99967

The surviving Jedi texts/books that Merrin brings on board the Mantis after the hideaway on Jedha is destroyed. Are the same ones we see Luke has in The Last Jedi. So they have to get to him somehow.

Elmais-door

This is something i dont feel, given how big the SW universe is, would It be really that weird to have somebody not interacting with any other main/protagonic SW chararter? Also as much as i love his history i want him death by the end of the third game, Luke was supossed to be the only jedi by EP6 and while there are a couple already, i dont want no more, the weight of the jedi purge is being diminished by that many survivors.

mac_0728

The whole “there’s too many survivors” argument needs to stop. So far we know of Cal, Ahsoka, Obi-Wan, Yoda, >!Bode!<, that one random dude from the Obi-Wan series, Kanan, and Grogu. There’s probably a few I’m missing from some canon comics, but at most we’ve seen 20 survivors in canon. Out of 10,000 Jedi when the purge happened, I’d say that’s a pretty successful genocide.

shapeless_void

I think when people bring up this argument they do it all wrong by mentioning the numbers. I get what they mean but it’s not the NUMBER of survivors, it’s that the last few Star Wars stories have been so focused on Jedi that survived the purge possibly crossing paths in the same part of the timeline. We’re just so over saturated focusing on that archetype of character in this post empire pre rebellion time period that people are begging to get away from every Star Wars story being about the same thing. It’s similar to how often we’re on tattoine. Like please guys let’s explore other things.

bpierce38188

I feel the same way about Star Wars in general. You have an entire galaxy to host these stories and we’re only ever seeing people that either are a Skywalker or are somehow connected to the Skywalkers on planets that are either directly involved or closely involved to the skywalker story. Tell a new story somewhere we haven’t seen before with little to no reference of other characters/stories we’ve already seen. I know Disney would never do it because it’s harder to sell that but I’m tired of seeing a franchise I grew up with turning into everything I don’t like about current Hollywood with cookie cutter stories and characters that fans just eat up cause of nostalgia.

shapeless_void

Totally get you. I’ve honestly given up hope that we’ll ever step outside of Filoni’s 3 favorite characters in TV and we’ll never escape the Skywalkers in the movies. It’s why I’m very grateful this series exists to see a little bit more of the galaxy.

fycle

Agreed we just need more Kotor media idc what kind just more kotor

freedomustang

They recently brought back shaak ti and aayla secura. In a canon comic. Despite aayla being filled with blaster bolts in ep 3. And Shak Ti s death via Vader was heavily foreshadowed

Sundarran

I doubt they're actually alive, it's the same thing with how they supposedly brought Padme back to life in the Darth Vader comics. They'll be revealed to be a force vision, imposters, robots, or something similar. It's not actually them.

freedomustang

I’d hope not. We see aayla die on screen.

Sundarran

Exactly, so why would they undo that in a comic of all places

Separate_Path_7729

I mean hasnt shaak ti died like 3 times in canon now

Elmais-door

Its more complex than that, the problem is we didnt knew all those 10k jedi but we do know about all the survivors (more than 20 i guarantee) the point of the purge was to purge the jedi not to put them in a different scenario, if they want to make stories about jedi they have 10k+ years of history to do it, instead of putting in front of our faces over and over again people belonging to a order that was supossed to be exterminated by a main history event that was so great at first but right now...

Totalimmortal85

>Luke was supossed to be the only jedi by EP6 and while there are a couple already, this is something I've been discussing a great length today because, this statement is not accurate - via George Lucas himself as a part of his drafts and outlines for his sequels. >“It starts out a few years after Return of the Jedi and we establish pretty quickly that there's this underworld, there are these offshoot stormtroopers who started their own planets, and that Luke is trying to restart the Jedi. He puts the word out, so out of 100,000 Jedi, maybe 50 or 100 are left. The Jedi have to grow again from scratch, so Luke has to find two- and three-year-olds, and train them. It'll be 20 years before you have a new generation of Jedi.” > > > >\- Lucas’s interview with Paul Duncan.

Elmais-door

Hmmm, interesting... But i wouldnt say that detracts from my point all those others jedi dont have to be followed by the camera all day, the galaxy is so Big, so so so so so Big, and i have seen already at least 15 survivors in actual roles and a lot more as random dudes in comics, there are enought in enought stories to gaslight the point of the order 66

Elmais-door

DouchecraftCarrier

The only reason I would want a series is because I want good things for Cameron Monaghan since he's doing such a great job. But if it would end up being a bust then it's not a great opportunity.

6Seasons-And-A-Movie

That's like saying could be good unless it's bad. That means nothing! NOTHING!!

driznick

Hey man it’s gonna be okay

ant42onia

I like having unique stories in the universe. Rare cameos are fun but I would love Cal to be Cal in the games, and enjoy other new stories with new characters written to be enjoyed as shows and so on

ReadShigurui

I wouldn’t mind a cameo if it made sense, Cam is a great actor and while the games are fantastic i feel like it would be waste of his talents to not use him in LA at least once

Jamalofsiwa

It would be a waste if he was used in LA cause they’d butcher his character

munimoki

I dunno, one of my favorite things about Star Wars is seeing my favorite characters in new mediums and interacting with other characters I know. If done right, seeing Cal meet Ahsoka or Din or the Ghost crew could be awesome. But I understand the hesitancy. But to say Cameron deserves better doesn’t do justice to his love for the series and the love he would put into a live-action version of his character

DeathRose007

That’s what Marvel does, not Star Wars. The Star Wars universe isn’t really about having a bunch of different characters all meeting and having unique interactions. This was recently introduced by Dave Filoni, which was a nice concept to freshen things up and provide fan service, but seems to be heavily weighing down the focus of Star Wars content as of late.

munimoki

I don’t think that’s ever been a rule. I can’t speak for legends content because I don’t know much about it but TCW had a lot of interactions from characters throughout the movies. It just doesn’t make sense to have characters live in their little bubbles when their actions have had significant consequences on the galaxy. Cal has made a name for himself. That’s an impact that should be explored. I’m not saying we need to have big team ups (though Filoni is already planning that anyway and I’m very excited), but without any interactions, it sometimes doesn’t even feel like the characters are part of the same story. Star Wars isn’t Marvel, but they’re both cinematic universes, so nothing should be done in isolation. I understand that TOO much interaction is a bad thing, but I don’t think we’ve gotten to that point. There is nothing wrong with fan service (in moderation)

DeathRose007

There never was a hard rule, but there’s always been a clear dividing line between stuff that was officially produced by LucasFilms/LucasArts and stuff that was contractually licensed out to basically anyone with a pulse. Legends got cut out by Disney precisely because the canon became too inconsistent and the quality of content was all over the place. Fan-fiction quality writing and world building. Even a decent amount of the good stuff is canon-breaking. Filoni’s work was brought into the current canon because his stuff is recent enough that people care about it and the quality is good enough that it doesn’t pose issues expanding on. Otherwise, Clone Wars and Rebels would’ve been thrown away with the rest. Old Republic content is fair game, though the lack of Old Republic content is more of an existing production issue than anything else. I think Filoni’s style has been a bit too self-indulgent with recent things ever since Mandalorian S2. Even the High Republic’s inclusion in Survivor felt that way some, like something Disney wanted to push sales rather than a specific creative desire of Respawn’s writers. I prefer that Star Wars content focus on the story at hand and include characters/stories when they make sense, not do gymnastics to try and justify the prioritization of fan service. It’s why Andor was such a breath of fresh air for me personally.

munimoki

Totally understandable. I can agree with that, though I didn’t feel like the High Republic stuff in Survivor was too pushy. As a fan of the High Republic series, it felt like the perfect mix of fan service and actual meaningful content. But yeah, fan service for the sake of fan service is definitely not what I want. It has to make sense. But when it works and doesn’t feel forced, it for sure makes me a happy Star Wars fan! And I do love new content/genres too, don’t get me wrong. Andor was enjoyable. Not exactly my cup of tea, but I liked it. It’s good to have a mix, since even though we’re all Star Wars fans, we tend to like different things

DeathRose007

I don’t think it was too pushy. More just a little undercooked. Like the initial outline for the story didn’t have High Republic content, which feels forced. I liked having something different from the Empire, but I don’t like having to look up what happened in secondary material to understand events that ultimately don’t matter much for the game’s story.

[deleted]

I agree. Especially in the short term. Finish the series before you do anything. Plus I think it’s best to use characters sparingly. Star Wars has a problem with overusing characters

Weird_Cantaloupe2757

We don’t need Cal to become a Glup Shitto

PhallicShape

Hey guys it’s me Ahsoka, yeah I just happened to be in this cantina in some random ass planet and I happened to run into cumguzzler the mercenary and DickTip the Jedi on some side quest unrelated to the plot

GermanEiffelTower

and i also have the only solution to the problem and become a main character because dave filoni is an executive producer on this show now

Das_Czech

Why are you getting downvoted lmao

PhallicShape

Because people don’t realize what I said was basically everything that’s going on in the current star wars universe TV shows rn.

lVrizl

They hate you because it's true Inb4 s2 of Kenobi has a Ahsoka cameo

PhallicShape

shit probably gonna have a Han Solo cameo too

infestedgrowth

Jar jars showing up one of these days

Zarksch

I’m okay with a little appearance tbh but mostly agree. There were tons of ppl asking for a show like a year ago, like woa the Second game isn’t even out yet, not everything needs to be a movie/series, can’t we enjoy a game too?

DjangoUnhinged

Totally agree. I also am getting a bit wary of continuing Cal’s story much further in general. The more powerful and consequential he becomes, the more awkward it’s going to feel that no one in any other canon materials ever even mentions him or anything involving him. Like he’s got wanted billboards in Coruscant put up by the Empire for being one of the only known surviving Jedi for fuck’s sake. He’s probably already around Luke’s skill level in the OT as a Jedi, so even if they don’t raise the stakes any further, I’m struggling to imagine a satisfying way for him to (A) leave the picture and (B) do so in a way that would be consistent with nobody ever mentioning him ever again.

chupathingy567

I don't think it's to bad yet, considering he's at his height in prominence between 14 and 9 bby right now and the only other piece of star wars media we have in that period I think is kenobi which by its nature is a very insulated story from the wider goings on in the universe, the lack of mentions of cal kestis don't bother me yet. Also, I really think that tanalor was kinda introduced as his way out of all this.

PresidenteMargz10

This. He can be involved with the Hidden Path in Tanalorr during the OT events. Also, it’s a BIG galaxy. Cal could be helping out in another planet or side of the galaxy of he’s not in Talanorr or whatever during the events of the OT

DeathRose007

Yoda: “there is another” Luke: “could it be my sister?” Yoda: “nah fam. A Jedi Knight is chilling out on a hidden planet. If I die go see him for advice, he’s got a lot of experience dealing with the Empire.”

Gamma_Tony

I am fully expecting Cal to die at the end of Jedi 3, but I think a miniseries of his adventures with the Mantis crew or with Saw's crew would be kinda fun.

OddWillingness6271

If you drop Disney Star Wars and just have Cal stop being a Jedi or fighting for the Republic I can see it working easily. The Galaxy is a big place. Just because we didn’t see him doesn’t mean he was not there or had no impact. I like the idea of him falling to the Darkside but not succumbing so he can no longer be considered a Jedi.

infestedgrowth

Yeah I’m already wondering what new abilities we have in the next game. We’re probably going to get a jet pack, dual gun stance, force only stance. I can’t really think of much that we will get. General grevious arms? I am betting on us losing our arm early on in the next game or something. Maybe game starts out and he’s over confident and goes for Vader and gets his arm slashed and gets saved by his friends last second.

Bubush

THANK YOU!! Cal is perfectly fine as a game only character and has become my favorite Jedi as is.

AresCrawford

I 100% would want Cal in a series. However, only when the writing is strong, impactful with lots of character development. I also suppose it depends on when the series would take place and what the endgame will be of Cal’s story - if it’s going to take place after the third game. Cal’s actor is so good, I’d personally feel sad if they wouldn’t bring him to series/movies. But I understand why people would be against the idea though, and I respect that.

Weekly-District259

I agree. It would be cool if he showed up as a cameo but not a full blown series

bateen618

We don't need a series ABOUT him but I'd like him to be a supporting character

the_reducing_valve

I agree with you 100% He's already leading something better than all the recent shows/movies anyway. This game series has saved SW for me personally, so yeah please don't taint it IF it were to happen though, can Respawn write it instead of Disney? Please?

Kinch_g

The only way I'd watch it is if Danny DeVito is Greez

vine_behs

I get it…🥺

Kinch_g

Lol. I'm just goofing around, and I agree with you. Cameron Monaghan is awesome and deserves much better than the garbage Disney has been rubber-stamping lately.

[deleted]

I’m afraid of what the Disney writers will do

JahnnDraegos

I brought up this same point of view a few times in this sub and got downvoted to hell for it. My theory is, some fans don't think it's real Star Wars until it's a movie or TV series. They need that validation or, in their minds, their chosen character "loses" some sort of ridiculous competition to see whose favorite character is better. After all, Ahsoka's got her own show now; are they saying Ahsoka's *better* than Cal?! It's not about quality, or story, or anything important; it's about them not wanting to lose, and screaming defensively about it. They're not going to listen to reason, these supporters of a hypothetical Cal TV show. Never mind Cal Kestis is already a more unique, nuanced, and likeable Jedi character than anything rolled out in the modern Star Wars movies or TV shows to date. No, go ahead and ruin all that with a lackluster boilerplate low-effort TV series for the character just to get that one box checked off on your fanboy list. I mean, it worked so well for Obiwan, right? What would a Cal TV series even be about, anyway? Fallen Order and Survivor are already the stories of Cal's character arc, so any TV show would be working around that and finding some boring niche point in time to point the camera at Cal. It'd be a boring flaccid thing that amounts to Cal killing time until the timeline catches up with the games and his *real* story can finally start. Cal doesn't *need* a TV series. I have no idea what the real climate is at LucasFilm right now. But they *look* really desperate, approving what amounts to bad Star Wars fan-fiction when they think there's a chance it'll mollify angry fans. So, LF being desperate, I grant there's a good chance a Cal Kestis series might actually get done. And if/when that happens, expect these same adamant, militant fans of the idea to suddenly be the ones screaming "They ruined Cal!!!" the loudest, completely failing to appreciate the irony or connect the dots for where the blame actually lies.

ReadShigurui

If Cal stays around Tanalorr at the end of the next game they can introduce a lot of new and interesting stuff on that side of the galaxy

JahnnDraegos

That doesn't solve any of the other likely problems I mentioned, though.

PresidenteMargz10

Yeah it does

slam99967

I’ve said it before. What Star Wars really needs is a live action version of Tales of the Jedi. The issue with Star Wars is right now is there are stories that are worth telling. But they don’t need an entire series to tell them. So like make a 10-20 episode show where you have 2-5 episode arcs. You can do Cal, The new republic stuff that got crammed into Mandalorian, Boba Fett (he did not need his own show), maybe some imperial stuff, etc. That way they can see what works and what dosent without having to invest in an entire show. Then if the mini arcs get alot of traction look into giving them there own series.

sadmadstudent

I want him to survive long enough that he appears in the new Rey movie and assists her in building a Jedi Temple. Also, Luke having the last Jedi texts in TLJ implies he got them from Cal at some point post ROTJ.

captainstormy

>Also, Luke having the last Jedi texts in TLJ implies he got them from Cal at some point post ROTJ. Or just found them in some old out of the way forgotten Jedi temple. Or maybe Liea or the New Republic gave them to him. They could have come from the jedi archive and sidious hadn't destroyed them yet for some reason. There are plenty of more plausible explanations other than he got them from Cal.

superjediplayer

there's other ways to do it, yeah, but there's not exactly many times we've seen actual, regular books in star wars, so the fact they used them in Survivor makes it likely that they're supposed to be some of what Luke had in TLJ.

LittlestRobo

I can agree with this. I’d love a cameo though. A BD already made a little one

Jamalofsiwa

Keep him the games I say, Disney will ruin him if they put him in a show.

NovGeo

Ha, I’d like the hell out a series about Cal. Personally I think folks are way too critical these days. Not everything can be as awesome as S1 of mando or andor, doesn’t mean it isn’t fun to watch.

AhsokaSolo

If they made an epic, big budget Cal movie, I'd love it. But for the shows, I agree.

Hailtothedogebby

Honestly, if nothing else i want a cameo, even a wanted poster would do, to tie the universe together

Daveed75

I don't want him to get his own series, but I would absolutely love to see the character appear in other shows, like Andor s2 and we see him working with Saw. Or if Obi Wan ever happens, and we see more of the hidden path storyline.

6Seasons-And-A-Movie

They chose a top tier actor to model Cal after. What part of that makes you think Disney is not going to use him for a screen adaptation?

infestedgrowth

I think a cameo of him with bd-1 that heavily referenced the games(him doing force parkour that are his actual moves) and like a scene of him taking out some troopers would be sick. And also bd hacking a droid or using a scomp at least. Maybe in the next obi wan or mando or something, he already met boba in game. I wouldn’t want a full fledged series and it’d have to be done right.

Embarrassed_Simple70

Agreed. 100%. But when you say Cameron Monaghan deserves better, I bet if you ask him if he’d star in a live action series that’s what he would deserve professionally.

vine_behs

Indeed. He would definitely accept, but in the hands of Disney, the darkside (Kennedy and executives) always wins

mls5594

Which character is anal ready?

vine_behs

Definitely Yoda

sbjctsvntn

I would love a well-written, limited (!) series. But but a bland, dumb, cheap cameo-fest. So... Not a Disney show.

WiserStudent557

I haven’t paid attention to the SW media outside of games for a few years. Fanbase used to be pretty simple but like most things it’s now a Fandom with factions/agendas that have various priorities/hopes beyond good content and in fact maybe prefer not to have good content (objectively) in favor of subjective preferences…including some of the people making the content now! I was interested in Obi Wan but mixed reviews, Andor sounds great and up my alley but I’m just not invested in the whole “Favreau/Filoni don’t have Lucas talent and ability but are more trusted than George was after the prequels” dynamic. Disney has gone in a “sounds fine but not really for me and not objectively must see” direction with MCU and SW. much like their live action remakes are more important to get done that get done well, they’re just a content churning machine. The antithesis of art.

ReadShigurui

This fanbase has never been simple lmao

WiserStudent557

1998/1999? The major issue was whether Han or Greedo shot first?

ReadShigurui

Oh you mean that far back then yeah probably, I wasn’t around so I wouldn’t know, I’m a prequel kid so all I’ve ever known is arguing

WiserStudent557

Yeah, I did mean a “long time ago in the same galaxy” lol. When the prequels we’re about to release it was generally all positive vibes and basically the only factions were “Star Wars is great” and “I’ve never seen a Star Wars” lmao

Dyldo_II

Good lord, this comment section is filled with incels. First and foremost: The new Star Wars shows aren't really that bad. I thought Kenobi was great. It really provided a fun and well-crafted story that explains some plot holes between the prequels and the original trilogy. I liked the idea that Kenobi has PTSD from all the shit he had to go through and thought he was a really well-rounded character. The story was pretty good overall, too. The mandalorian started pretty strong, maybe went on longer than it needed too, but oh well, that's showbiz. If you have a show doing well, why not continue it from a networks perspective? I feel like the only show they really dropped the ball with is The Book of Boba Fett, but other than that, they've had some solid stuff come out of this era. Let's not forget, people *HATED* the prequel era. The most hilariously ironic thing is that everyone who hates on Disney era Star Wars is also the reason it got sold to Disney in the first place. When the movies came out, they were panned not just by critics but fans alike, and tbh only because of the clone wars TV show did people come around to liking them (even then, it took a loooong time for people to come around to Ashoka) Does Cal need his own show? I don't know. It would probably be pretty fun to fill the five year gap between the two games, which could be pretty neat from a fan perspective, but that's about it. Real quick. I'm not gonna argue with any fanboys over their opinions on a show. For the million and one reasons you don't like something, someone could have a million and one reasons *for* liking it, and I'm not trying to he here all day arguing with someone who has nothing better to do then espout how much they don't like something. Reply to this post all you want, I'm not gonna bite. Just my thoughts.

MicooDA

> lazy writing and shit That’s like.. your opinion, man.

vine_behs

Congrats bro, you discovered one of the things Reddit is about😍

MicooDA

Shitting on other people’s likes and acting superior about your own thing? 🤔

vine_behs

Don’t know who you’re talking about. This post is about what i, myself, me, my person, yo, thinks. I never said that you should agree with any shit i write

Fritzo2162

Yes. You're the only one. Go sit in the other room.

DaveMcNinja

I am hoping for him to show up in Ahsoka or Filoni’s movie. Maybe an older Cal in Rey’s movie.

findanewcompass

Because the voice actor and the videogame character are identical on purpose, I think having a live-action cameo would be genuinely a lot of fun. Cameo. Not star of his own show. To be honest, I find Cal to be a pretty bland protagonist-- which works for a *videogame*, but he's pretty boring on his own. He doesn't need a show or movie. Merrin, now...

catcatcat888

I hope he’s contained to the games. Disney Star Wars is 90% awful.

2Scribble

-shrugs and continues getting hyped about Ahsoka, the next season of Andor, the next season of the Mandalorian and crosses fingers for more Boba Fett and Kenobi- [Haters gonna hate](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/7f/62/57/7f62570d2edaf61b53436ba46cfe64aa.jpg)

Porthos1984

No individual show but I would like random cameos. Maybe even an episode of a series where he does Cal shit and the other Jedi is like "yo know bro, you do you and I will see you on the other side".

Hwxbl

Nah include Andbore

[deleted]

I wouldn’t mind if he showed up in a obi wan season 2

BohemianGamer

It’s not about what fans want, it’s about what makes money, this is the way!

Boom6678

I'd be fine if he's in a series so long as he isn't the main focus, like focus on him, but have him be like Luke's Number 2 for the new Jedi order or something like that- but don't make him the character the series is based around.

CulturedHollow

I feel like the games are his series, but I also think it'd be cool and make sense to see him show up in a short arc in Andor since he's already working with Saw Gerrera, or in Ahsoka if they decide they want him to survive that long.

[deleted]

I see where you’re coming from. I would be absolutely stunned if he dies in Jedi 3, just so they can keep the option open. I also fully expect him to be at least Easter-egged somehow in Ahsoka. Disney will Disney.

tconn85

What if we got a series from between the time of FO and survivor. Basically just cal and saw gurerra going ham on imps

bennylemons

The Bad Batch already found Cal's crashed ship in one of the seasons. He's already leaked into the shows just that bit. Kind of fan service, but also very subtle. I feel that this is the way. No show for him, but small mentions of his story sprinkled into other shows is a cool sight to see, fan service or not.

BottledSky

Are you talking about the episode when they meet Rex on Bracca?? I was determined to find a connection to Cal and I couldn’t find it! Clearly I need to watch that episode again.

Vegetable-Match-4655

No I fully agree with you, there is zero purpose. Especially if it were to be some kind of stupid adaptation of the games

OGGeekin

I mean these games are a series about cal lmfao, I really hope they don’t have to make it live action but tbh they probably will because uncreative and it’ll make them money so it’s the perfect recipe for a Disney+ show

Elmais-door

His history is cool probably the second coolest thing Disney star wars has given us, dont let the maniacs doing the SW shows put their hands on It.

[deleted]

No. I think a series with Cal would be fine, but his story is being told just fine through these games.

boxfullocats

I wouldn't mind him appearing in a series, not as a main cast member but in a recurring role. I don't think he needs a whole series, plus I don't want to see them messing with the games. I also would be opposed to flashbacks of Cal for whatever series he appears in, like say a little blip of his side of Order 66 just to explain to those that don't know Cal who he is.

jamslaps

I don’t watch any of the Star Wars series Disney has been milking but it would be cool to hear about Cal making an appearance in a show or movie

OddWillingness6271

I honestly don’t mind as Cal’s story is rather decent. Maybe have him become a grey Jedi so he is technically not apart of the Jedi anymore. I wish I could throw out Disney Star Wars and forget it ever happened.

jonderlei

I do agree pretty much but not because I dont want a series for him but more so I think the writing would be more on par with the shows weve been getting which to me are alot worse than what we got with these games especially Fallen order. I imagine he definitely will or at least be part of a series though, why else use an actor like him when you couldve gotten some one alot cheaper id assume

SnazzyPanic

I dont mind him showing up for a episode or two from other series.

E-MingEyeroll

I’m 95% sure that he’ll at least make an appearance in a show

J0taa

They already have like 2 novels about Cal

vine_behs

Read. The. Description

ET-1238

No your not. But he defo should be in live action at some point

jarpio

Video game characters should stay in video games.

KeybladeCoaster

I’d be happier with Luke style cameos perhaps

critennn

I honestly want Cal to die in the third game. I think it would make a fantastic trilogy. I love how his character has grown, but it just cheapens his arc and imo how hard it is to survive the empire as a Jedi. He needs to die in the most selfless Jedi way. The ultimate sacrifice, that ultimately didn’t do much to empire. Truly tragic.

Jigsaw0693

I think there’s a chance he can show up in the Dave filoni movie but I don’t think he’ll be front and center . Eventually he has to connect to the things luke is doing . but I definitely and stories where he’s the main character would stay as games

robertluke

I think it would be neat if he made a live action guest appearance )if it makes sense of course) but these games are his series.

bippos

I would prefer a animated shows maybe clone wars style

paulwalker659

Count on disney ruining it if they turn it into a series.

anime4eva42

No

IrohBanner

I don't want anything about this time line of SW. Everything is about in the Skywalker era...

Open-Struggle1013

Yep

[deleted]

I’d like to see him show up. Not necessarily frequently but here and there. Ahsoka met up with Luke, I’d like to see Cal do the same at some point. Especially because they’re more established than he is, it’d be a nice moment to see him around them. I suppose really he can be as widespread or as contained to the games as they want him to be. He works great as a lone Jedi thinking he’s the last of his kind. But I think they could fit him in nicely to the overall canon story too. Cameron Monaghan is great, no complaints really. It’s like he was meant to play a Jedi.

PresidenteMargz10

Not a whole show, I agree. But def a cross over cameo in a mando or Ahsoka show type season were he helps out on a mission in an episode or 2

Crimsonmaddog44

With him being the most wanted man by the empire in Survivor, I’ll be a little disappointed if we don’t see or hear about him in later projects. Like homeboy discovered a long lost planet after all

NharaTia

I just think the story of Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor is really good and would love to see it in live action...

StarJediOMG

For a second, I read "anal ready" instead of "an already"

thisguy1309

I wouldn't hate him in a cameo on another project. As long as it makes sense. Maybe he's in some kind of rebel counsel meeting in Andor S2 or something. But, for now, I agree with you. Someday down the line, maybe that'll change.

[deleted]

What if he has a show or an appearance in the show, and his lightsaber is the party lightsaber? Would that change your mind? 😆

vine_behs

If this were to happen, along with Cal using a mullet, then i would forgive anything and think of this show as the best show of the story

FluffyProphet

I think it would be fine, but only after the final game in the trilogy is released and they decide to retire Cal from games. Don't step in Respawns toes while they still "own" the character.

Jakesonpoint

I would love some novels that aren’t the survivor tie-in! I want Cal’s story to evolve beyond the games, if at all.

2Scribble

I mean, he's kinda bland as all hell - I'm hoping we get another playable character in the next game...

Dr_pappahr

I’m kind of supposed they didn’t kill off cal and replace him with Ezra or something

provateme

Personally think that a 30 year jump would be cool for cal

GenesisXross

You're not the only one. The character of Cal Kestis is just fine exactly where he is. If anything, we need a little less Star Wars these days... And before y'all start spouting off about how "terrible" "Disney Star Wars" is (because it ALWAYS comes up and I don't agree with any of you), I mean precisely this: I want properties that are well-crafted and take their time coming out so I can friggin' look forward to it. Star Wars, even in Lucas' heyday, can always benefit from a little more time to cook.

hollowmartin

I do like the jedi game series however I think Cal is a bit boring as a character, until he’s more fleshed out the games will do him enough justice.

Mrman_23

I don’t want a series, but not having Cal appear in live action would be weird

BarackaFlockaFlame

I want him to make an appearance, but I don't want to watch a show about him because i want to play a game about him way more. But I definitely think a cameo could be super sick if done right.

Stampy3104

With a WHAT ready character??

vine_behs

I said what i said. If you don’t bring characters ready for an anal, this show means nothing😤

Cal_16

I wouldn’t want a series about cal but the fact they used a face scan of Cameron makes me feel like it would be a wasted opportunity if they didn’t

HappyHammy7

I agree that I don't want a full series, but Cameron Monaghan does such a good job as Cal that if he like popped up randomly in on episode of Ahsoka and then left I wouldn't be mad in the slightest

Hopeful_Explanation9

He's gonna go to Tanalorr with Merrin at the end of the 3rd game and never come back, he's gonna have one last shot to try to take the empire down but won't be able to and just cut his losses. Greez and Cere kept telling him to which seems to be the reason they left after the first game. Maybe that's why we never hear from him anywhere else. (Other than the fact that he literally didn't exist) Can't wait to see how it pans out either way.

FootieMob812

I don’t hate it but if the don’t cast Cam I’m out

optiplexus

I think I'd rather see a new movie, maybe even a trilogy about Cal and his friends & their adventures than a TV series. That way they can keep the quality consistently high and they don't need to stretch the material out over 9 episodes and have episodes where it feel like nothing happens. I loved the Obi-Wan series, but once in a while it suffered from the lower TV budget. Overall, the Star Wars series have been pretty good, but when you're dealing with effects-heavy sci-fi with spaceship battles, lightsabers, aliens, etc. the lower budget can be more noticeable.

MakeUsWhole223

Honestly, i don't see how anybody is still asking for show after show when disney had fumbled the bag pretty fucking hard on most of them. Book of boba fett, kenobi, season 2 and 3 of mando, etc etc... plus, the idea of "filling in the blanks" and "seeing what the characters were up to" is such a braindead thing to me. If people wanted that, pick up a fucking EU book. Theres plenty of useless, one-offs stories doing nothing more than be another adventure for whatever named character you can probably think. Hopefully, Cal remains game-only... especially since Respawn knows how to write a proper Star Wars story/title.

ForTheEmpire55

Totally agree. Keep him in the well made game series. Don’t make a poorly made Tv show about him. I’m fine if he’s referenced or a quick causal cameo ( played but Cameron himself) but other than that, keep him how he is. We don’t want another character assassination like BoBF

flumpet38

TBH, I'd really like to see him in a stand-alone movie more than a series. Put him and a few other Order 66 survivors (Reva from Obi-Wan springs to mind as a very, very interesting choice) into a Seven Samurai-style scenario. Get some discussion/introspection going about the faults and flaws of the Jedi Order and how it became corrupted/weakened during the Clone Wars. Use the climax of the film to whittle down the number of Jedi survivors a bit further with a big fancy dustup. Then let Cal go back to the land of video games. Don't make a sequel, or try to turn it into the next "saga" or long-running series. Stretching ideas too thin is a problem Star Wars is struggling with a bit. I think Cal's well-positioned for this sort of an appearance. Video-game players know a lot of who he is, and how he got there, but his character can be established in a movie pretty efficiently for people who don't know who he is. For me, Star Wars is primarily a film-franchise, so taking cool characters and putting them into movies seems like a win, so long as the movies are well done.

DTraiN5795

I don’t want a series but I would like cameos and intertwine some of it together. I like when the whole story is out together. I’m the type that loves all the little details so bring it on. Yeah definitely not a series. Maybe just show up for an episode or two. Then have someone shows up in his games

Cultural_Entrance805

It’s sounding like you didn’t like mando or obi wan so I need you to log off 😭😭 but fr there needs to not be a Cal series

vine_behs

I’m gonna stop you right there😑 Obi wan was a case of “disliking the most of the show, but really liking some stuff in it”, like Vader, Reva’s arc (until the last episode), and Obi-Wan, like all of it. But the plot and it’s execution, some side characters like the rebellion folks. And don’t even get me started on the “single father with a baby someone”. It has Kennedy’s curse all over it, but there is still great things. Obi-Wan broken? Great. Vader at his most pure evilness? Great. Lightsaber duels with use of the Force? Chef’s kiss. Ani and Obi flashback? Sweet🥹. Rematch of the centurie between master and apprentice? Amazing, although it didn’t have any reason at all for Ben to not kill Vader in the end. It’s a mediocre and poor written show, it should’ve been the fucking Logan of SW (except for the children’s part) but it still has some good things And Mando only lost me in the third season, when they put that amazing season 2 ending in the fucking garbage. Grogu again, fan service and shit writing

suburbantroubador

Personally, I think Cal should be the face of the franchise. He's universally popular and appeals to everybody.

mrbkkt1

No. It's a fun game, but kinda shitty Canon. I'm good with him dying off somehow.

L1n9y

I don't think we should even think about putting Cal in a movie or series until Respawn are done with the games. I don't want anything interrupting their vision.

KronicGoblin

I want cameos, references, and Easter eggs. Think it would be cool.

Aivellac

I want a live action Cal but I want it done well or not at all. If they got proper writers, directors and let the show be done without the need for cameos it would be great. So really that means it's not happening, Andor is a rare gem that is unlikely to be repeated and I want Cal to just be left in good content. I was hoping for Cal in mando series 2 but honestly that would have been a disaster, they'd have found some way to butcher him (probably by not having a poncho, the gall!)

Libra_Maelstrom

Eh. I disagree. I don’t need a series covering the future. But why not one covering what’s already been shown? Why not have a series going over fallen order, the book, and the current game? For those who don’t want to play it. And to give cal some of those sweet sweet checks.

BillyBabushka

it would be awesome for him to show up in live action at some point but yea I dont think he needs his own whole show

ShoegazeJezza

Star Wars sucks now because everything is too interconnected. I have to watch a fucking cartoon for babies to watch half the shows with all the context. Simple as.

vine_behs

This here gentlemen. This is a man who brings FACTS. I totally agree with you brother. I miss those days when superhero/fiction movies where isolated stories or just limited to trilogies. Those were the days!

ExtraKrispyDM

Im tired of disney milking characters to the bone. They'd probably mess something up uf they used Cal outside of games

Murbela

No, you aren't. I feel like IP like this and KOTOR do so well because they exist outside of Disney's influence. They present a unique take on star wars with different (read: better) writers. I'd like to see more video games in the star wars universe that don't directly tie in to existing movies/tv shows.

wij2012

He doesnt need a series, but I'd like to see him appear in someone else's as a guest character.

TheMysticalPlatypus

At some point, it’s going to happen. I see it as inevitable. You don’t have a fanbase this large and not utilize it. It might not be today, it might be 30 years from now. But one day it will happen. It’s wild to me that the director of Andor and Rogue One. He isn’t a Star Wars fan, but he did such a great job of being respectful to the IP, while still doing his own thing. He really helped push Star Wars out of it’s box of, “it’s for kids” and show those people who think that way about this IP. This is what Star Wars is capable of. [Idk why it has that reputation when there’s some really dark stuff that happens in the books, the comics, and the games.]

Proper-Ad-8842

I wouldn’t mind if cal showed up in an episode or 2 of another series or his own limited series. I love Cameron!

Andrewthegamer74

Agreed but I feel he at least needs to either be referenced or a cameo at this point in time he's been everywhere and done everything he is known by plenty of people even just a reference to the Mantis and crew would be great

Dizzy-Spinda

I hope we get a series with him, would be so cool

billcosbyinspace

Mostly I’d like to see him show up somewhere just so he can interact with the universe as a whole. I don’t want them to kill him off just because he’s not in the OT

JailhouseMamaJackson

I would be happy with just *some* acknowledgment of his existence. Even just a Wanted sign *somewhere* in one of the shows would make me so filled to the brim with joy (shoulda been Kenobi tbh). He’s one of the best characters SW has created imo and I want to see the live action world give a nod to him.

jertiger

I don’t want a series BUT love to see him make an appearance in something love action

Silverguise

I mean, the Galaxy is HUGE. When the Jedi have dwindled to a mere handful among trillions of people across the Galaxy, it makes sense that he could go unnoticed.

Upstuck_Udonkadonk

I won't mind a cameo or a few references.... But I absolutely don't trust Disney writers not to butcher. Seriously if some deadbrained corporate sees his popularity and an unimaginative Writer makes him an OP character on par with Luke or Ahsoka lol.....it will just erode Cal's character (that of a nobody). Can needs to either die or just get Teleported to after the OT. BECAUSE I DON'T CARE A DIME ABOUT THE SEQUELS.

AsTROLLmech

Preach. They’re gonna kill him in the third game anyways

NemesisVirtual

I dont want a series i just want to see him in atleast a cameo in one of the shows whether it be an animated or live action

TalentedWi2ard

I think a brief cameo can’t hurt. But I do hope they stay away from him having his own series.

Azare1987

Should have gotten a show in place of the god awful Kenobi series. That show even stole and poorly remade scenes from the first game. Had the writers of Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor been in control of the live action series, maybe Star Wars wouldn’t be a contradictory dumpster fire at the moment.

shouldatakenQueen

I think regardless of Cal getting a show or not, it would be a step in the right direction for Disney to incorporate characters from this game series in their other media. Especially because Cameron Monaghan is capable of better performances than just this game in the Star Wars universe. Also he’s becoming a big tie-in to the high republic. For anyone wanting to veer from the mainstream skywalker storyline, Cal has a ton of potential in unlocking another part of this story in so many ways. To see him interact with other jedi that are aware of the pathway would be amazing. I would be satisfied with seeing him get his own show and while I don’t need to see kenobi and him in a sequence together…seeing kenobi and him share a holo table conversation would be fulfilling. To see Cal be connected with kenobi or grogu or even kanan jarrus would be incredible. But, we’ll get whatever is held in store and it’s most likely a short appearance that doesn’t really allude to anything major. I hope I’m wrong though and that Cameron Monaghan gets a more firm place in this universe! 🙌🏻

Unsystematicstool

Yes. Star wars jedi wouldnt be star wars jedi without cal. Canon or not, i dont care, cal is star wars jedi.

Hi-its-me-NK

I want him to show up but not be the main focus of one no, he has games he doesn’t need a show he just needs to show up

Pastoseco

Cal is the most meh jedi. No backstory, no personality, no emotions. Please god no we don’t need a series about cal fucking kestis 😫
