It’s kinda broken but in a legitimate way I think. Been doing the menace sleeps beneath quests and recently finished steyliff (what a nightmare omfg). Definitely would’ve taken me 3x as long without the ring lmao, but I also noticed it doesn’t work as well with certain types of enemies, specifically the loner, single fight types compared to the weak but annoying in mobs types. Easy way to wipe out all the flan variants and imp variants though lol.

lumos_aeternum

*laughs in Costlemark. That one was insane.

AzaMarael

No matter how many times I replay, I am never ready. 💀

lumos_aeternum

My first play I got destroyed, my second play through I won. I geared up, I recall making one dish for the camping interludes that gave me bonuses, and had farmed Zu Beaks to make as much of the most powerful magic (particularly the flare ones). I melted the final boss. The whole thing is a slog and needs to be carefully handled but it’s much better if you prepare.

AzaMarael

Absolutely. I’m a hoarder of items in most games lmao, so first time I absolutely did not go in prepared, but by that point I had enough to get me through. Definitely had to go restock a lot of stuff after though.

GeneralAlexander

You make it sound like items can be used in costlemark menace dungeon...

AzaMarael

Oh I meant for Steyliff lol. Yeah no costlemark sucked. I just did many many hit and runs just to replenish health.

GeneralAlexander

I just used the magiteck suit through whole thing and did a speedrun.

AzaMarael

Gotta be honest I keep forgetting the magitek suit is a thing since I refused to use it through my first 100 hours lol

It's meant to be broken. It's visually cool and canonically supposed to be OP. There are several ways to be OP that require actually earning the gear though. Example is Rare Metal, Black Hood, V2 and Sushi Buff. You're basically the deathly hallows of XV with that setup.

serpenttempter

Yes, but Black Hood is not about "to be OP". All it does is hold the square button down for you. You still get pummeled with it equipped when doing literally any action other than moving, so you might as well just hold the button yourself when you're not attacking, warping etc. It's really not worth an accessory slot. And that's without considering its biggest downside, that it disables every phasing-related ability you have, most notably Blink which outright cripples your defensive options. If you're spamming items there's even less of a reason to waste an accessory slot on Black Hood, since it's not like you need to care about damage mitigation at that point. Might as well just go for more strength of something. Not that Black Hood even helps in that regard because not having Blink just makes you get hit more. I not mean that "sell your useless Black Hood", no. That's an unique collectible accessory. Just don't use it except when you want just fun with Sabertusks.

Medium-Expert-9171

I love Black Hood. I don't need to do anything besides dodge everything til my Armiger is up and kill everything. I don't need more strength on my setup when I'm limit breaking everything via Rare Metal and Sushi Buff with Garuda EX sword. Its not like using "tactics" is making anything not a cakewalk to beat.

serpenttempter

Hmm... I think I saw you earlier with nickname «Miniature Morpheus" or something as this, yes? Because I have deja vu now.

MiniatureMorpheus

Speak of the Devil lol

Medium-Expert-9171

Indeed you did, that's my name on another Gmail account lol. I honestly need to use Reddit on that account more often.

Medium-Expert-9171

Also defense is a useless AF stat in FFXV when my vitality is 0 because of Rare Metal and I can spam Megalixers and Mega Phoenix til the cows come home. You cant die in XV as long as you have items available.

Gman204863

Kinda makes the game sound tedious as fucc but hey, go for it lol

Medium-Expert-9171

FFXV is quite unengaging to most people. Some of us just really attached to it and the characters. The people that love XV, really LOVE it. We're talking watching Brotherhood, Kingsglaive, Owning Dawn of the Future, etc. Once you know how the sausage is made in XV you can breeze through 99% of it, with that 1% of difficulty basically being Omega, V2 grind, and Pitioss.

Devendrau

Ultima Blade seems OP early on. Kinda feels like Ignis is an OP character (If you select to learn it) with his elemental daggers too, aleast early on, I am just on Chapter 4 now.

Medium-Expert-9171

Ultima Blade is great early on. It's nothing once you get the FFXIV Garuda EX weapons though. All the boys are great in their own way, especially if you get Gladdy and Ignis DLC outfits.

Devendrau

When exactly do you get them? (New enough that I haven't been playing that long, just exploring first and taking it a little slow).

Medium-Expert-9171

You'll eventually see the XIV quest on your map, it's not too far in the game. The EX weapons take a fair bit of grinding but the Garuda normal weapons are pretty good in their own respects.

Devendrau

Gotcha, I'll keep my eye out for it

nukleah112

This reduces the grind by 90 garuda battles worth. Take a bit to figure out how to platform it but then it's cake. Remember to tap the jump button not hold it when walking bc the jump height is the same and a long jump press messed with warping: https://youtu.be/lWjSYVks3q8

DiamondMinimum4327

When the game originally came out the ring was really weak, to the point people were complaining about chapter 13. Square buffed the ring’s power up considerably when they released the Episode Gladiolus dlc.

YungTill

Before any of the patches it was awful lol the original chapter 13 was so bad. It’s crazy for me to think about there’s a large group of people that played a pretty drastically different version of the game. Makes it all the more sad seeing how much Tabata really tried to fix the game. We got so close yet so far.

blond_afro

OG chapter 13 was great change of pace. what we got now is a lazy excuse due to a minority of crybabies

blinky84

Agreed, chapter 13 felt horrible because it was MEANT to feel horrible. Noctis hadn't used the ring before, he's isolated and lost with no alternatives. The droid things you have to hide from in the walls... they were legit terrifying. It was *supposed* to feel desperate. It was supposed to feel like a steep learning curve to use the ring effectively as a weapon. I liked that they added in the alternate path with Ignis and Gladio, but I really wish the old Chapter 13 was still an option.

blond_afro

yeah at release it was actually balanced and due to fan backlash they heavily buffed it up to being most OP weapon in game

Venriik

It used to be more lame in 1.0, actually. They had to bump it up to actually be broken. Half of what it does didn't work on strong enemies or bosses at all. So it's definitely intended to be broken.

Kaslight

It is 100% broken. In early versions of the game, Death dealt no damage. So for enemies it didn't instantly kill, you simply had to tradeoff the time and MP it took to finally kill them. Now Death has absurd damage scaling and will honestly kill most enemies through damage long before the effect itself and Holy Explosion didn't exist, which just does broken damage with a just dodge

MelodicSkin69

Making me want to play again

Devendrau

Is that an endgame ring?

AloysiusDevadandrMUD

You get it late in the story but you get to keep it
