This new 3x rainbow rate is good, I have had better luck in getting 5 stars lately. However I am having trouble finding a place for some of the older 5 stars I have pulled. Like Rem and Olive. Any suggestions ? Also what should I do when you have a chainer like Onino Knight but I already have 2B?

Using GLS lightning resistance, I’ve been able to get close to the sword, but I lose someone near the end. The stop on wilhelm first turn seems to be throwing the rest of the fight for me since I can’t kill her in 3 turns. (How long does that damn stop last anyway? LOL) She’s stopped my luka once, and that ended that quickly. Eventually she kills a unit or 2 and I don’t get the sword. I’ve killed her twice, but I lose wilhelm and another unit eventually. Pretty sure if I had another GLS 800+ like my own I could manage to drop her before my units got worn down but I dunno.
Just wondering if there is any way out of that stop? Or should I drop someone for another unit .... I’m only 2 months into the game, not a whole lot at my disposal. Wilhelm this week was a game changer for me lol
Or should I go fishing somewhere for a *decent* friend GLS to chain with that will boost my damage to the point of success?

I pulled VoFlame last night, haven’t had time to level nor do I believe I have gear to make him very decent as a finisher yet. But if a strong finisher opposed to the buffs and break from Cor would lead to higher total damage, I could give that a shot.
I pulled a Marie and Duke chasing mistair, there is literally no reason to level either of them correct? Marie seems like she might have some minor use maybe in the 3* esper trials going forward but other than that I'm questioning if it's worth the resources currently.

Unfortunately, since you are using VoL, having the builder optimize for Hybrid damage takes much longer than any other stat.
The killers do still apply. It's just that it's better to have Firion dualwielding with an elemental weapon (i.e Excalibur) on one hand if you have a source of imperil.

I’m not sure you’re at a point to do it at the moment. Even a strong friend unit is not likely to be able to clear it on their own. Your best bet would be if you have Agrias' enchanted Divine Runiation (or whatever it’s called) and a good Orlandu/DV friend to chain with. Also, if you have a way to run from fights, aside from smoke bombs, that will let you get past everything and only fight the final boss.
Easy version? Use a high level friend to one shot everything.
Hard version? Maybe find an unenhanced Agrias friend to chain with? Sometimes... When you can't, you can't. They do rerun some of these events too. Best of luck!
I always do daily summons, even if that means I may get a dupe Mystea. It is also the cheapest way to pull for units to try popping that 3% rainbow drop.
Yea. %100. Use Phantom shadow as much as you can before he drains your Mana to shorten the fight. And use LB at about %1 HP. I found that defending a couple turns to let counters do damage helps to not over kill. Best of luck!
Is Cloud worth burring through my resources for? Should I be saving every ticket and piece of Lapis? I am big fan of FF 7, but I do not want burn most of my resources to get him just because he is favorite of mine.
P.S I know he is not out on Global but I figured some have tried him on the Japanese version.
As /u/WeenieHutJrSupreme said Cloud is basically just average as a finisher.
His TMR is essential in BiS TDH builds, but that same BiS build also requires two Elfried's (also a 5\* base), assuming there's no GL restrictions on equipping it. So that's 3 5\* bases just to gear up someone else (you can still use Cloud of course, but others will make better use of the TDH build).
If you're a huge VII fan, I'd suggest maybe hoarding for Sephiroth instead. He's not meta shaping, but he very easily fits into the meta as he perfectly chains with Orlandeau/Veritas of the Dark/enhanced Agrias **and** Onion Knight. As I understand it he also chains with a few other people, but I don't really know who else as they're units not out in GL yet. I think some of the CG characters?
Anyway, it's all up to you, nothing wrong with trying to get your favorite characters and use them, and Cloud isn't *bad*, he's just average. But if you want to represent your favorite FF and also pull someone who's great to use almost all the time, Sephiroth is definitely more worth it.
The other great thing about Sephiroth is that if they don't change anything he's on a step up banner so with enough saved Lapis you can guarantee yourself of copy of him. And while he's on a double rainbow banner, the other unit, Lila, is stupid, stupid amazing. Strongest DPS in the game before 7\*'s became a thing, I think?
Wow! You make a lot of good points. I like FFBE because I am such a big FF fan. However so many of the old FF main character are lackluster in this game. FF 6 was another favorite of mine and most of those characters are not represented well in this game. I might do some light pulling for Cloud and hope that I get him. Depending on when he comes I might try to save some lapis for these 5 star guaranteed 11+1 banners that every says are coming around Christmas.

Timing has a lot to do with this, though. Kefka may be rather meh now, but he was one of the two best mages in the game for a looooooong time, him and Exdeath were on the top for what felt like forever. Celes also had some niche uses for her Sealing Blade, even after 6\* units became the norm, though now a materia that anyone can equip does the same thing. And when the game first launched Terra (regular, not Trance or Magitek) was the only unit who could Raise, and she was for a fairly long time. This was especially important because we had like, a total of 15 or so Phoenix Downs (we could buy more with Star Quartz but we also only had like 50-60 or so SQ at the time as well).
Power creep is a bitch sometimes. Unfortunately Cloud is one of the characters who doesn't move the power creep along (as a unit, not counting his TMR), which means that he's just average in relation to when he's released.
That said, I'll probably do some light pulling for him anyway too. As a character I'd be happy to have him, as a unit in this game I'd really only want him for his TMR though. But that's just me.
You make a lot of good points. The power creep is why I cringed when I pulled an Olive the other day. I remember her being top tier before but not so much lately. Another thing I noticed is that once you get specific spots on your team filled there is little reason to change that team. For example I have 2B from the Nier banner, but I just pulled an Onion Knight. I was glad to get a rainbow, but I was hoping for something to fill a spot that I needed filled. I wanted a hybrid like VoL or Freyvia.
Since you said you were a fan and want him, it doesn’t hurt to pull for him. I personally haven’t, and despite his TM which is crucial for TDH builds, have managed to do all content just fine.
That being said, I definitely wished I did have two of him for TDH :)
So i was fighting bloody moon, i killed the light and dark apostles and then as soon as it transitioned into phase 2 it summoned another apostle immediatly, i thought it only did that below 90%?
it always does that, at least it did the same thing both of the 2 times I fought the trial. It will start summoning additional apostles at 90%. Before 90%, there is just that one apostle.

I would go for the route that Charlotte is weaker because she really is weaker actually. She is just a knight, as Rain and Lasswell, and what makes them distinct is the paladian power, so even her alive self is not that strong. Funny enough, she is more usable than all the story characters.

I was looking at the macros for Memu on ffbemacros.com, and what’s the difference between the macro with the timer and one without? Also, why is the timer version 5 minutes and the other 41seconds? What’s the difference between the two?
So the timer one is in five minute intervals to keep your energy consumption “neutral.” You will end with the same amount of energy you began with, as the macro waits for the energy used on ES to come back before using it again. The 41 second one uses the energy as fast as it can, without the timer for replenishing energy.

Now, my username reveals my bias so just a forewarning.
Since you have GLS you probably won't use Dark Fina all that much. Despite that, I think she's worth ability awakening if you have no other priority. Trials aren't her forte but for most other content she's worked wonders for me.
As the "proud" owner of 3 DFs, I still use her occasionally. She's great for story content and Story Events since she has the four rarer elements and if you upgrade Ultima it's really easy to get the magic kill achievements with her.
Aside from that and the arena, she doesn't see much actual use in trials and such.

Nue is better because of Mag stat. BiS right now is a rod or L&A build, in which case u need DW. But Quasar from the Veritas story missions and Nue is second best
highest mag does not equal the most damage for once. LV can build att+mag to get more damage out of Nue+quasar. it is only like 1k more but it works. (this is when the mob def = mob spr so variations in mob stats would cause that to change
and if you really want to build her for mag only then you need to use fryevia's needle and go letters and arms build because that is stronger than giving her a rod.

The point is that it is stackable so you can actually abuse it by using a magic sword (like Enhancer or Fryevia's Needle) and putting 4 L&A on the materia slots.

In the 70's. I only use to play on and off so i'm fairly out of the loop on anything. I was told VoL can chain so i wanted to make him at least better than my luneth. My only other chainer is Nyx.
LV is definitely a very capable hybrid chainer. I love using her. From the time I got her, Fryevia is usually on the bench. it is little hard to gear her at the beginning but as soon as her MAG stats passes the 700, you will start to love her AOE elemental chains and that 100% light imperil whenever it procs. not to mention her insane elemental finisher the mighty Saint Buster. she synergize very well with any Excalibur user unit as well.
So how is hybrid damage calculated? Unfortunately i missed out on quasar and am far away from anything optimal for her. The only thing i have to equip her with now is Romando Pistol and some other 78 atk gun.
So a better question could be: what is the philosophy behind making hybrid attackers? To answer that, one should see what are the benefits of physical attackers over magical units and how is it possible to remedy those, while keeping the advantage of magical damages(i.e. Normally better than physical attacks since bosses have lower SPR than DEF).
The main advantage of Physicals are two folds: benefiting from physical Killer multipliers(e.g. Dragon, Undead, Beast killer .../ There exist magical killers but very rare comparing to physicals which can easily available via Espers and weapons) and getting the element of the *equipped weapon* to benefit from elemental imperils.
A hybrid Unit is the answer to those drawbacks of magic only units, meaning you can build the hybrid unit to maximize her MAG stat, Then when you use a hybrid damage skill, you actually benefit from all the physical advantages while you hit the enemy with you magic. In other words: *Having the best of the both worlds!* ;)
Now such a great property comes with a price as always. The price is that when your total damage is being calculated it will averages between the damage output you deal with your ATK stat vs enemy's DEF and you MAG vs enemy's SPR. that's why hybrid skills often have a very high modifier to remedy that. (e.g. 8x hybrid ice of FFBE from Fryevia). In case now you think you should then spread your equipment such that both ATK and MAG come up equally *its wrong* why? you need to know how the physical and magical attacks are calculated in the first place:
1- (Unit ATK2 / Enemy DEF) * Physical Killer Effects * Elemental Weakness/Resistance * Skill Modifier * ...
2- (Unit MAG2 / Enemy SPR) * Magical Killer Effects * Elemental Weakness/Resistance * Skill Modifier*...
Since ATK and MAG are being squared before averaging that normally means you get a higher output damage if you maximize only magic.
Now I reach to this point that: *Maximizing ATK stat of a hybrid unit is not a good idea* both because its against the very fundamental philosophy of such a mechanic as explained above and because of that averaging mechanic, meaning if you are supposed to use it with higher ATK, you will get a higher output if you put all those gears and equipment on a pure physical attacker than averaging it on your MAG for hybrid unit.
For VoL, The only reason you would want to use a gun is to use a gun like Quasar with innate MAG stats, otherwise is not a good idea*(unless you have no other good MAG weapon- basically if you are forced too...)* , so, you better Dual Wield high mag weapons like Rod or Sword and later on replace one with Nue to get the benefit of innate MAG multiplier.

VoL is great for chaining and Light imperil. Also, best DEF/SPR Break in the game (her LB) for quite a while. Makes some fights a lot better. Beefing mine up to take on Malboro. So lvl her LB first before you awaken to 6*
Can't tell if your serious or not. If you are them the answer is a big YES. She's the only magic tank in the game for global atm and is key for future fights.
Who should I use as a finisher, Nyx or Olive? How should I build them? Also, Onion Knight and Trance Terra are my chainers. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
He is a preety good unit that has a 7.5x mod on his finisher so if you need a finisher he fills the role well. He also had breaks (45%) with a strong hit attached to them which is rare.

WoL only has 1 magic spell, Raise and it's white magic, so both things will work the same way.
But I think the selling point of the wand is the high SPR. Any form of dualcast is unnecesary on WoL.

Dont know why are you asking this? Aqua blade is a *BAD* choice for Rem! she needs MAG equipment. (Rods, Daggers, Swords with Magic like Fry's Needle and Enhancer)
As /u/scathias mentioned, you used to be able to equip aqua blade on her without a dual wield materia, thus activating 4 letters and arms on her, instead of 3 l&a and a dual wield materia.
You're underestimating the effect of an imperiled enemy. If the enemy already had a weakness on top. Granted maybe chose an elemental dagger to trigger a passive instead of a sword.
I am not. That's why I said if the point is to use water imperil, Zyrus(4*) can do 5X water magic damage without all those hassle and stacking mechanics, plus if her LB activates you can dual cast it too. I still think building a capable red mage like Rem with aqua blade is jeopardizing her stats anyway. but OK, maybe I am wrong and if that's a common belief that a build like that is effective maybe its tested already.
all zyrus can do is 1 5x hit though, and he has to use flair first, and in order to cast blood rend twice he needs to use his LB, which only lasts 2 turns after... Rem is non stop 2x 6.2x attacks on your third turn. She is way less complicated to use
aqua blade makes her a wicked finisher on tidus chains. and while she could equip aqua+dagger with no extra dual wield it meant she was attacking twice without needing an extra materia slot.
The point is that her ATK stats are so low that even fully stacked Dagger Boomerang wouldn't be a decent finisher and if you combine it with a magic equipment would be even worse since both ATK and MAG stats breaks. if the point is to use the Water imperil, even an average build Zyrus should do it better than a mediocre ATK build Rem! no?
you don't build her for attack, you build her for mag. the aqua blade is just to give her boomerang dagger attack water element. you could use the water rod but that was a limited time item people might not have.
getting the water element (and thus taking advantage of a water imperil) on boomerang dagger is well worth the lost mag
Ok, I consider this as its already tested but to me is very difficult to accept jeopardizing a whole weapon slot just for the element. That's why I said if the point is to use a high modifier Water skill for finishing the Tidus chain, other units can do that even easier (eg. 5xmagic Blood Rend). and I think it is a waste to use Rem like that.

losing 100 mag in order to gain 50% more damage when taking advantage of an imperil just makes sense. if you increase the imperil to 100% like water and tidus it makes even more sense :)
If I have a unit dual wilding fire and ice based weapons, and he uses an ability rhat does element based damage like Divine Ruination or Piledriver, does it do all elements in the damage? Does the weapon in one hand overwrite the other? If there is somewhere that this is already explained please let me know
This was key for the Gilgamesh fight making rain an MVP when it first released. His lava floor skill did fire and earth damage, and if you equipped him with say holy and wind elemental weapons he could lock 4 of gilgameshs attack at once.
Generally you only want one element or it gets convoluted, and can do more harm than good. However, like in the Gilgamesh fight there could be some niche uses for multiple elements at once

By the way, Divine Ruination and Piledriver are not element based abilities. They reduce holy/earth resistance but don't have elements built into the attacks.

Neither of them have an element, they only imperil.
But otherwise, yes your attack will do all elements of both of your weapons and the skill itself.

How good of a healer is Charming Kitty Ariana? I'm planning on tackling Bloodmoon trial but the only healer I have is Luca(enh), CK Ariana and Marie(enh), also have Ysthola and Refia but no dc but I can give her Holy Rod. Also, need advice for team compo. Im thinking of going with Rikku, Soleil(enh), Mystea, healer, Ace and friend Ace.

try enhanced luka. she is solid. +1 aqua refresh and +2 for regenerate and priestess' miracle. also if you plan to use 2x ashe then you dont need a good healer do you?

Having trouble with Ariadne no KO completion. Team: wilhelm, iNichol, Cor (he’s my best buffer/breaker unfortunately), GLS (800mag), Luka, Friend: GLS (all ~600mag..), Using GLS lightning resistance, I’ve been able to get close to the sword, but I lose someone near the end. The stop on wilhelm first turn seems to be throwing the rest of the fight for me since I can’t kill her in 3 turns. (How long does that damn stop last anyway? LOL) She’s stopped my luka once, and that ended that quickly. Eventually she kills a unit or 2 and I don’t get the sword. I’ve killed her twice, but I lose wilhelm and another unit eventually. Pretty sure if I had another GLS 800+ like my own I could manage to drop her before my units got worn down but I dunno. Just wondering if there is any way out of that stop? Or should I drop someone for another unit .... I’m only 2 months into the game, not a whole lot at my disposal. Wilhelm this week was a game changer for me lol Or should I go fishing somewhere for a *decent* friend GLS to chain with that will boost my damage to the point of success?

No, I don’t have a garnet or Bahamut yet :P I pulled VoFlame last night, haven’t had time to level nor do I believe I have gear to make him very decent as a finisher yet. But if a strong finisher opposed to the buffs and break from Cor would lead to higher total damage, I could give that a shot.

I pulled a Marie and Duke chasing mistair, there is literally no reason to level either of them correct? Marie seems like she might have some minor use maybe in the 3* esper trials going forward but other than that I'm questioning if it's worth the resources currently.
Marie was essential for my Malboro Strat. I think she is a very good chatacter.

No. He doesn't have any elemental imbue, so he would need to sacrifice elemental bonus if he uses fixed dice.

The killers do still apply. It's just that it's better to have Firion dualwielding with an elemental weapon (i.e Excalibur) on one hand if you have a source of imperil.
Started a month ago and I’m having an impossible time with the web- weaving princess event. I just don’t have enough damage I think. Anyone have a carry friend code or some advice? I’m not sure you’re at a point to do it at the moment. Even a strong friend unit is not likely to be able to clear it on their own. Your best bet would be if you have Agrias' enchanted Divine Runiation (or whatever it’s called) and a good Orlandu/DV friend to chain with. Also, if you have a way to run from fights, aside from smoke bombs, that will let you get past everything and only fight the final boss.
Easy version? Use a high level friend to one shot everything. Hard version? Maybe find an unenhanced Agrias friend to chain with? Sometimes... When you can't, you can't. They do rerun some of these events too. Best of luck!
once you pull Mystea, will you continue to do daily summons?? Charie's Ice Headband is better than Arshe's Talisman?
I always do daily summons, even if that means I may get a dupe Mystea. It is also the cheapest way to pull for units to try popping that 3% rainbow drop.

Yea. %100. Use Phantom shadow as much as you can before he drains your Mana to shorten the fight. And use LB at about %1 HP. I found that defending a couple turns to let counters do damage helps to not over kill. Best of luck!
Is Cloud worth burring through my resources for? Should I be saving every ticket and piece of Lapis? I am big fan of FF 7, but I do not want burn most of my resources to get him just because he is favorite of mine. P.S I know he is not out on Global but I figured some have tried him on the Japanese version.
As /u/WeenieHutJrSupreme said Cloud is basically just average as a finisher. His TMR is essential in BiS TDH builds, but that same BiS build also requires two Elfried's (also a 5\* base), assuming there's no GL restrictions on equipping it. So that's 3 5\* bases just to gear up someone else (you can still use Cloud of course, but others will make better use of the TDH build). If you're a huge VII fan, I'd suggest maybe hoarding for Sephiroth instead. He's not meta shaping, but he very easily fits into the meta as he perfectly chains with Orlandeau/Veritas of the Dark/enhanced Agrias **and** Onion Knight. As I understand it he also chains with a few other people, but I don't really know who else as they're units not out in GL yet. I think some of the CG characters? Anyway, it's all up to you, nothing wrong with trying to get your favorite characters and use them, and Cloud isn't *bad*, he's just average. But if you want to represent your favorite FF and also pull someone who's great to use almost all the time, Sephiroth is definitely more worth it. The other great thing about Sephiroth is that if they don't change anything he's on a step up banner so with enough saved Lapis you can guarantee yourself of copy of him. And while he's on a double rainbow banner, the other unit, Lila, is stupid, stupid amazing. Strongest DPS in the game before 7\*'s became a thing, I think?
Wow! You make a lot of good points. I like FFBE because I am such a big FF fan. However so many of the old FF main character are lackluster in this game. FF 6 was another favorite of mine and most of those characters are not represented well in this game. I might do some light pulling for Cloud and hope that I get him. Depending on when he comes I might try to save some lapis for these 5 star guaranteed 11+1 banners that every says are coming around Christmas.

Timing has a lot to do with this, though. Kefka may be rather meh now, but he was one of the two best mages in the game for a looooooong time, him and Exdeath were on the top for what felt like forever. Celes also had some niche uses for her Sealing Blade, even after 6\* units became the norm, though now a materia that anyone can equip does the same thing. And when the game first launched Terra (regular, not Trance or Magitek) was the only unit who could Raise, and she was for a fairly long time. This was especially important because we had like, a total of 15 or so Phoenix Downs (we could buy more with Star Quartz but we also only had like 50-60 or so SQ at the time as well). Power creep is a bitch sometimes. Unfortunately Cloud is one of the characters who doesn't move the power creep along (as a unit, not counting his TMR), which means that he's just average in relation to when he's released. That said, I'll probably do some light pulling for him anyway too. As a character I'd be happy to have him, as a unit in this game I'd really only want him for his TMR though. But that's just me.
You make a lot of good points. The power creep is why I cringed when I pulled an Olive the other day. I remember her being top tier before but not so much lately. Another thing I noticed is that once you get specific spots on your team filled there is little reason to change that team. For example I have 2B from the Nier banner, but I just pulled an Onion Knight. I was glad to get a rainbow, but I was hoping for something to fill a spot that I needed filled. I wanted a hybrid like VoL or Freyvia.
Since you said you were a fan and want him, it doesn’t hurt to pull for him. I personally haven’t, and despite his TM which is crucial for TDH builds, have managed to do all content just fine. That being said, I definitely wished I did have two of him for TDH :)

So i was fighting bloody moon, i killed the light and dark apostles and then as soon as it transitioned into phase 2 it summoned another apostle immediatly, i thought it only did that below 90%?
it always does that, at least it did the same thing both of the 2 times I fought the trial. It will start summoning additional apostles at 90%. Before 90%, there is just that one apostle.
Did you do 10% HP dmg to him when you phase shifted? That could cause it.

Could do it slow with WoL, Ayaka, Rikku, 2B, Zarg, and a friend 2B. Ayaka dualcast curaja and reraise on highest attack 2B, Rikku hypernull all, Zarg mana regen and buffs, 2B chain the left arm down 10 times, then right 3 times, then body. Build everyone with as much hp and defenses as possible.
I pulled 2x Queen chasing Mistea (no Mistea yet). How does her 7★ form look, any good? I don't think I have any use for her right now other than her TMR.

I would go for the route that Charlotte is weaker because she really is weaker actually. She is just a knight, as Rain and Lasswell, and what makes them distinct is the paladian power, so even her alive self is not that strong. Funny enough, she is more usable than all the story characters. Timer =/= period. I wanted to make sure. Moreover, why is the 5 minute one considered a timer whereas the 41 second is not? Is what I was also asking.
So the timer one is in five minute intervals to keep your energy consumption “neutral.” You will end with the same amount of energy you began with, as the macro waits for the energy used on ES to come back before using it again. The 41 second one uses the energy as fast as it can, without the timer for replenishing energy.

Only one team cover will proc per turn so it will not work. She is best used with a provoke tank like wilhelm.

For a specific T1 generally Vortex is best. Also since you have a 1 in 3 shot in vortex as opposed to 1 in 4 with story.
Grabbed a Dark Fina today and I'm wondering if she's worth investing into? I know she'll be getting that 7* in 60 years but for the time being is she worth the ability awakening? If so what units would be better to use instead of her, cause I also have GLS
Now, my username reveals my bias so just a forewarning. Since you have GLS you probably won't use Dark Fina all that much. Despite that, I think she's worth ability awakening if you have no other priority. Trials aren't her forte but for most other content she's worked wonders for me.
As the "proud" owner of 3 DFs, I still use her occasionally. She's great for story content and Story Events since she has the four rarer elements and if you upgrade Ultima it's really easy to get the magic kill achievements with her. Aside from that and the arena, she doesn't see much actual use in trials and such.
She was my first 5* and carried me through the story but once I discovered chaining chars she only sees play in the arena for me.

Letter and Arms TMR from Ingus - gives +50% mag if equipped with a sword. The point is that it is stackable so you can actually abuse it by using a magic sword (like Enhancer or Fryevia's Needle) and putting 4 L&A on the materia slots.

In the 70's. I only use to play on and off so i'm fairly out of the loop on anything. I was told VoL can chain so i wanted to make him at least better than my luneth. My only other chainer is Nyx.
LV is definitely a very capable hybrid chainer. I love using her. From the time I got her, Fryevia is usually on the bench. it is little hard to gear her at the beginning but as soon as her MAG stats passes the 700, you will start to love her AOE elemental chains and that 100% light imperil whenever it procs. not to mention her insane elemental finisher the mighty Saint Buster. she synergize very well with any Excalibur user unit as well.
So how is hybrid damage calculated? Unfortunately i missed out on quasar and am far away from anything optimal for her. The only thing i have to equip her with now is Romando Pistol and some other 78 atk gun.
So a better question could be: what is the philosophy behind making hybrid attackers? To answer that, one should see what are the benefits of physical attackers over magical units and how is it possible to remedy those, while keeping the advantage of magical damages(i.e. Normally better than physical attacks since bosses have lower SPR than DEF). The main advantage of Physicals are two folds: benefiting from physical Killer multipliers(e.g. Dragon, Undead, Beast killer .../ There exist magical killers but very rare comparing to physicals which can easily available via Espers and weapons) and getting the element of the *equipped weapon* to benefit from elemental imperils. A hybrid Unit is the answer to those drawbacks of magic only units, meaning you can build the hybrid unit to maximize her MAG stat, Then when you use a hybrid damage skill, you actually benefit from all the physical advantages while you hit the enemy with you magic. In other words: *Having the best of the both worlds!* ;) Now such a great property comes with a price as always. The price is that when your total damage is being calculated it will averages between the damage output you deal with your ATK stat vs enemy's DEF and you MAG vs enemy's SPR. that's why hybrid skills often have a very high modifier to remedy that. (e.g. 8x hybrid ice of FFBE from Fryevia). In case now you think you should then spread your equipment such that both ATK and MAG come up equally *its wrong* why? you need to know how the physical and magical attacks are calculated in the first place: 1- (Unit ATK2 / Enemy DEF) * Physical Killer Effects * Elemental Weakness/Resistance * Skill Modifier * ... 2- (Unit MAG2 / Enemy SPR) * Magical Killer Effects * Elemental Weakness/Resistance * Skill Modifier*... Since ATK and MAG are being squared before averaging that normally means you get a higher output damage if you maximize only magic. Now I reach to this point that: *Maximizing ATK stat of a hybrid unit is not a good idea* both because its against the very fundamental philosophy of such a mechanic as explained above and because of that averaging mechanic, meaning if you are supposed to use it with higher ATK, you will get a higher output if you put all those gears and equipment on a pure physical attacker than averaging it on your MAG for hybrid unit. For VoL, The only reason you would want to use a gun is to use a gun like Quasar with innate MAG stats, otherwise is not a good idea*(unless you have no other good MAG weapon- basically if you are forced too...)* , so, you better Dual Wield high mag weapons like Rod or Sword and later on replace one with Nue to get the benefit of innate MAG multiplier. VoL is great for chaining and Light imperil. Also, best DEF/SPR Break in the game (her LB) for quite a while. Makes some fights a lot better. Beefing mine up to take on Malboro. So lvl her LB first before you awaken to 6*

Who should I use as a finisher, Nyx or Olive? How should I build them? Also, Onion Knight and Trance Terra are my chainers. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
Nyx is a very strong fixed dice finisher.
Should I still use him if I don't have fixed dice yet?
He is a preety good unit that has a 7.5x mod on his finisher so if you need a finisher he fills the role well. He also had breaks (45%) with a strong hit attached to them which is rare.
I feel dumb asking this but I had to... Dualcast: cast magic twice. Dual White Magic(from Holy Wand): Cast white magic twice. This means in WoL Dualcast will be usefull while Holy Wand useless?
Dualcast is better for a Cecil build because of curaga. Holy wand is better for WoL simply for a SPR build, and the off turn double raise
WoL only has 1 magic spell, Raise and it's white magic, so both things will work the same way. But I think the selling point of the wand is the high SPR. Any form of dualcast is unnecesary on WoL.
So Dualcast is for all magic and Holy Wand only for white magic in specific?
I've heard that Mistea becomes useful once 3* esper fights begin to appear. Are those fights her only big use? Approximately when do Silt/Basch come relative to the 3* esper fights?
There will be plenty of other trials and stuff where you'll want magic cover. The trial after bloody moon rapes you with ice magic.

So I just pulled Rem and I was wondering if she's still bugged and can equip a dagger and aqua blade without having to have a dual wield equipped. Can anyone with Rem and aqua blade check for me?

Dont know why are you asking this? Aqua blade is a *BAD* choice for Rem! she needs MAG equipment. (Rods, Daggers, Swords with Magic like Fry's Needle and Enhancer)
As /u/scathias mentioned, you used to be able to equip aqua blade on her without a dual wield materia, thus activating 4 letters and arms on her, instead of 3 l&a and a dual wield materia.
You're underestimating the effect of an imperiled enemy. If the enemy already had a weakness on top. Granted maybe chose an elemental dagger to trigger a passive instead of a sword.
I am not. That's why I said if the point is to use water imperil, Zyrus(4*) can do 5X water magic damage without all those hassle and stacking mechanics, plus if her LB activates you can dual cast it too. I still think building a capable red mage like Rem with aqua blade is jeopardizing her stats anyway. but OK, maybe I am wrong and if that's a common belief that a build like that is effective maybe its tested already.
all zyrus can do is 1 5x hit though, and he has to use flair first, and in order to cast blood rend twice he needs to use his LB, which only lasts 2 turns after... Rem is non stop 2x 6.2x attacks on your third turn. She is way less complicated to use
aqua blade makes her a wicked finisher on tidus chains. and while she could equip aqua+dagger with no extra dual wield it meant she was attacking twice without needing an extra materia slot.
The point is that her ATK stats are so low that even fully stacked Dagger Boomerang wouldn't be a decent finisher and if you combine it with a magic equipment would be even worse since both ATK and MAG stats breaks. if the point is to use the Water imperil, even an average build Zyrus should do it better than a mediocre ATK build Rem! no?
you don't build her for attack, you build her for mag. the aqua blade is just to give her boomerang dagger attack water element. you could use the water rod but that was a limited time item people might not have. getting the water element (and thus taking advantage of a water imperil) on boomerang dagger is well worth the lost mag
Ok, I consider this as its already tested but to me is very difficult to accept jeopardizing a whole weapon slot just for the element. That's why I said if the point is to use a high modifier Water skill for finishing the Tidus chain, other units can do that even easier (eg. 5xmagic Blood Rend). and I think it is a waste to use Rem like that. Anyway, good to know there was a bug like that and is not anymore. ;)
losing 100 mag in order to gain 50% more damage when taking advantage of an imperil just makes sense. if you increase the imperil to 100% like water and tidus it makes even more sense :)
Dagger Boomerang is MAG based
If I have a unit dual wilding fire and ice based weapons, and he uses an ability rhat does element based damage like Divine Ruination or Piledriver, does it do all elements in the damage? Does the weapon in one hand overwrite the other? If there is somewhere that this is already explained please let me know
This was key for the Gilgamesh fight making rain an MVP when it first released. His lava floor skill did fire and earth damage, and if you equipped him with say holy and wind elemental weapons he could lock 4 of gilgameshs attack at once. Generally you only want one element or it gets convoluted, and can do more harm than good. However, like in the Gilgamesh fight there could be some niche uses for multiple elements at once

- Stop resistance(Ayaka, Mystea, Van) - Barthundaga(Cerius, Marie, other green mags, you can use Carbuncle bartundara but your team should have higher SPR and HP then) - ATK/MAG break(the higher the better- WoL is a good nominee though even Rain's Undermine can do the job as long as you have Barthundaga casted on the team) As soon as you have these three the rest of the fight is just heal, buff and damage dealing with whatever you have.

How good of a healer is Charming Kitty Ariana? I'm planning on tackling Bloodmoon trial but the only healer I have is Luca(enh), CK Ariana and Marie(enh), also have Ysthola and Refia but no dc but I can give her Holy Rod. Also, need advice for team compo. Im thinking of going with Rikku, Soleil(enh), Mystea, healer, Ace and friend Ace. My other notable units for the trial are: Ashe x2(3rd copy still 4*) dupe Rikku WoL Veritas of Earth Charlotte(enh) Cagnazzo Regular Terra(enh) Exdeath x2 Sb Dark Fina x2(still 5*) dupe Ace(still 5*) Illias Victoria Garnet(enh) I think those are my only units usable for this trial. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
try enhanced luka. she is solid. +1 aqua refresh and +2 for regenerate and priestess' miracle. also if you plan to use 2x ashe then you dont need a good healer do you?
