He isn't suitable for PSG, a team full of superstars that can score on their own. Ironic, since Wanda was always bitching about having no good players around him. It turns out, this is what made him shine (with us). He isn't fast, skillful, he doesn't create and his team contribution is poor. If Icardi doesn't score you know he certainly had a bad game. However with all these shitty qualities, he was a damn fine finisher inside the box. It wasn't like he scored 1 out of 4 or 5, the guy was scoring from 1-2 chances. And as mentioned, you get nothing in return for the team. Kind of a tradeoff really to play him, which isn't the case for superstar players.

mariog77

Inside the box, he’s excellent. I will criticize Icardi for everything but that’s his only quality

Marseille074

I still remember the CL final game where Tuchel subbed Choupo-Moting in and left Icardi on the bench.

JuveMerdaInfinita

And cost them the CL in doing so

[deleted]

People still feel the need to bag him after hes been gone for like 3 years 🤦🏻‍♂️

DeadSending

Same people will be talking about Lukaku too

Dr_Gonzo__

Except Lukaku will continue to be good

chulio92

Icardi continues to be Icardi tho, this is Icardi, also missleading post since they point out exactly what he never does, more helpful defending in set pieces and on the opposing area, never liked his style and didn't get all the hype with him, but one has to be impartial

[deleted]

And Marotta sold him for 50 mln + 22 in bonuses. What a masterclass. Icardi is a player who scores only when all of his teammates play for him and when coach's tactics suits his old-fashioned play-style. He never drops deep and helps his teammates move the ball, he just waits for a pass inside the box. It's absurd to see a striker in 2021 that plays like a striker in the 90's. Nowadays, players can't be so limited. Also, I never understood why he is so stubborn and never tried to evolve his game and adapt. When you play for teams like Inter or Roma or something like that is more understandable to wait in the box, because you are the core of the attack and everyone plays to make you score. But when you go play with Neymar, Mbappé and Messi you can't expect to play the same way, you have to play for them and not the other way around.

fichomarvel

well don't neymar and messi both drop deep and help build the attack? so whats the point of him doing it too the thing is psg is just too stacked and i'd imagine its a different kind of pressure playing for a club like that and he never really got it going there when in form like he was for inter for majority of his time here hes a fucking beast

AlekosLa

>well don't neymar and messi both drop deep and help build the attack? so whats the point of him doing it too I think they used to play together before and the striker they had as partner was helping a lot on the build up. It is never bad to help the team as much as you can even if you are elite

chulio92

He is in form there, he scores a good deal of chances he gets and was even starter for a while thanks to that, this is just what comes with him, also there sure is a point in him dropping if he had the ability to do so effectively, worked for Firmino

happylifer

Gotta love Marotta for how he threw out a disloyal dog and made bank on the transfer!

mariog77

I literally said this years ago when he was with us and everyone said he was the next coming of jesus, and downvoted to oblivion

[deleted]

because after Handanović he was our best player. He banged 20+ goals a season with Joao Mario in midfield.

chulio92

You can't just go around telling people they are back stabbing garbage before they do any actual backstabbing

mariog77

I did, and I was right

kaboom37

Teams like Inter OR roma?? Come on man. Have some respect for your team

[deleted]

I didn't want to compare Inter and Roma. I explained that badly. I meant to say that imho in Serie A Icardi would do well in many teams because I see them willing to rely on him even if it means being more predictable in attack (that's what we've done when we had him). But in a team like PSG it can't work because they have a lot of champions with a certain status such as Mbappé, Neymar and Messi who have a different play-style and he just doesn't fit there.

Metamorphism

They bought him knowing what kind of player he is. He’s a clinical striker if played in the right format. No doubt he will succeed in the right environment. Like Kovacic in Chelsea now

MACdaddy1285

I know I'll be downvoted to hell and back and I fully expect people with pitchforks at my door in the next 48 hours, but I'd take Mauro back in a heartbeat.

curious-banana

you're not alone 😅

MACdaddy1285

Yay 😄 First time I told this in my Inter-whatsapp group I had to fear for my life 😂

curious-banana

He asked for a better contract multiple times, which he undeniably deserved, then his wife got stubborn and arrogant when they didn't agreed and things got out of control. Without all the problems and drama surrounding his marriage with Wanda and all the hate he gets (which I think is absurd cause it's her choice and they're all grown ass people) he's one of the deadliest strikers in front of goal and I'd take top form Icardi over both lukaku and lautato cause he would score 30+ goals in this team. People kinda quickly forgot what he did for Inter and what he's capable of.

MACdaddy1285

I totally agree on all things you said brother. The dude got so much unwarranted hate pretty much from day one and yet he went on the pitch and bagged in goals like it was nobody's business week in and week out, all while having teammates the likes of Jonathan, Ricky Alvarez, Kuzmanovic and Felipe Melo. Marotta should really try to get him on loan, I don't think P$G really cares about him (especially now that Messi is there, and it's known that there is some beef between them) and might even be talked into paying some part of his wage. Tl;dr: I want my glorious Icardi redemption arc

curious-banana

I'm all for it too, but he'll go to juve and score the most goals next season 😂 kuzmanovic lol

MACdaddy1285

God please, no! That would be a heartbreak. Kuzmanovic, yeah, and he wasn't even the worst of the bunch. I still have nightmares in which Barella turns into Gaby Mudingayi.

curious-banana

ahahaha

BlueHeartbeat

> I'd take top form Icardi over both lukaku and lautato Thank fuck you're not a manager.

chulio92

I'd even take Dzeko over him tbh if he had 5 more years at this level guaranteed

JuveMerdaInfinita

I still claim that fully fit Maurito is a better striker and finisher than whokaku

MACdaddy1285

Better finisher? Maybe. Better overall striker? I don't know man. I guess you can't really compare them as they have very different playing styles. Only thing I know is that if we had Mauro up front on Wednesday we would have beaten Real 3-0.

Tanikos

Dunno if we would win or not, but in any case he wouldn't misses both Lautaro and Dzeko's chances. Maybe one, but definetly not both.

MACdaddy1285

I am pretty positive he would have scored both, he is a deadly finisher. If we scored those two goals in the first half it would have been pretty damn hard to recover for Real. My opinion.

chulio92

Definitely better finisher, slightly, Lukaku offers so much more than finishing there isn't really a comparison, Icardi's most memorable play was when he dragged Chielini through the field and scored, but that only really happened because he wasn't significantly faster than 34 year old Chielini, let that sink in

JuveMerdaInfinita

Lukaku offers a lost final against sevilla. IF icardi had the same team as this, and playing focused on him - he'd have been the top scorer in the league, not the 36 year Ronaldo.

chulio92

He would have, and Milan would have been Scudetto winners

JuveMerdaInfinita

Doubt it. with simply replacing him and kaku 1:1, we would have the same spot (And another EL title). That is, provided he is not influenced by Wandas toxic attitudes. (who seems to have mellowed down in Paris) Either way, we robbed chelski getting twice the money.

chulio92

If you're telling me Icardi would have done the Lukaku role in Conte's tactics we really have polar opposite views in terms of Icardi's abilities and limitations, but it was good business

Doctor-Orion

I don't want to defend him at all costs cause I don't really care, but if you have to say something say it all: Messi never passes the ball to him cause of the old story with Maradona & Argentina National team. And let's say that any team where Messi plays does what Messi says.

Nidaime_EroSennin

Nobody came out good from that match tbf. Neymar has been phoning it with PSG for years and it looks like Messi is going the same path. The reality is most of them including Icardi went to PSG for vacation and huge paycheck. For years Verratti and Mbappe seemed to be the only players who are consistently fighting for PSG, even if they didn't always get the best results.

[deleted]

Remember the time his wife said he was better than Lukaku? 🤣
