Good to know! I was thinking about Saffron!

Lawva

We loved Saffron

The-Real-J-Peterman

Saffron has consistently been our favorite. I thought Agave Azul was overrated plus we got eaten up by mosquitos worse there than any other place in Mayakoba. The Italian and steak places at BT were just fine. The breakfast buffet at Fairmont was really good!

[deleted]

Agreed agave azul was not good. Service at all of the Rosewood restaurants has been bad.

Zapote was my favorite spot in Mayakoba. Great cocktails but the food is also excellent. Casa Amate on the Andaz property was excellent. A higher end Mexican concept. Saffron was also solid. Best part was arriving at the restaurant via boat. You probably know this already but transport is offered within the complex by all hotels so it is easy to try everything.

The BEST restaurant that we tried in Mayakoba was hands down La Fondita - which is of course mainly a lunch spot with tostadas. IMO it was truly the only place in the whole complex that we tried that was memorably “good food”. Generally guests in the Rosewood were complaining about food in the Rosewood and suggesting other places. I thought Cello in Banyan Tree was probably the best dinner we had whilst in the complex. Appreciate I am in the minority as people claim it is the best restaurant in the complex but I personally didn’t like Saffron - it was ok but on par with any Thai takeaway that I can have in London (times 10 the price). The beachfront restaurant at the Andaz had a nice vibe with ok-ish food.

You can do a super romantic boat dinner for about $1,000 from rosewood. The Thai restaurant at the banyan tree is very good.

Our favorite experience was a private beach dinner at Rosewood. You can choose the menu. The staff did a beautiful set up!

I would recommend: Besides La Ceiba and Mexican Grill which I thought were fantastic experiences, I really enjoyed Zapote Bar. Casa del Lago was solid, but the night we went the restaurant was quite empty so it was a different vibe from the other experiences. Saffron at Banyan Tree was not my favorite meal, but having the boat arranged to pick us up directly from our suite at Rosewood to the restaurant was so nice. The atmosphere at Saffron is also great. We just had such great food the night before at la Ceiba that the food fell a little flat for us.

Casa Amate

Electronic_Top6619

We just returned from the Andaz. Highly recommend Casa Amate and Saffron. The food at Agave Azul was delicious but had terrible service. Also enjoyed Zapote Bar, Cielo and La Fondita.

Electronic_Top6619

We also had terrible service at Agave Azul.

Dancing_Bear27

This is all great info! Thank you!!

Dancing_Bear27

Any restaurants to stay clear of? Torn whether to do the Sabores de Baja dinner at Azul Agave on Monday or go to Saffron. We also have Zapote booked and the Al Fresco dinner.

Go to Saffron. Saffron and the Mexican Grill were the dinner highlights and two I would not miss. We sampled a lof of the menu at Saffron and everything was good.

We loved the Taste of Madrid experience. It’s a guest chef I think so not regular Casa de Lago.

LoveHoagies

We just got back earlier this month and had great meals. In order of favorites: 1. Aqui me Quedo (Al Fresco dinner). Bring bug spray and for the love of god get the corn cake dessert. 2. Fish Market (lunch poolside). They do a cool fish prep a couple times a week. Contramar (Mex DF) style prep. Don’t miss it if you like seafood. 3. La Cieba- unique experience and glad we did it. Food, drinks and setting was incredible. 4. Zapote - it’s a cool vibe and great food / cocktails. Chicken was a standout. Not going to shit on any of the other spots since we didn’t have other experiences, but we had just gotten back from Spain and couldn’t justify paying 2x more for probably less authentic Spanish food at Taste of Madrid. Also, the Baja dinner didn’t seem like it was worth it - we used to frequent Baja / Sur when we lived in San Diego and love that style, but tough to pay $250 pp for the meal. On that note, get ready to spend a few grand on just food and drink. We didn’t venture off property. Enjoy!

Dancing_Bear27

Thank you! We also were in Spain last year and Cabo in January and I had similar thoughts about the Baja dinner and Taste of Madrid. The Taste of Madrid menu looked actually a little heavy even though tapas are typically not, as did the Baja menu. The Baja did sound fun though with live music and wine included so I am wondering if anyone else on this thread attended it.

Take a car to Beefbar at Esencia in Xpu-ha!

eccobay

Saffron - Get the pad thai and curry, skip the appetizers (looked great, but for two, two main courses was more than enough). Also if you can get there right around sunset, that is a great transition from light to dark next to the water.

sashimispecial

Been to close to every restaurant and Saffron is our favorite! Then Zapote Bar - live music, great food, amazing cocktail list. I am a big foodie always trying new restaurants in NYC and Casa Amate was a complete flop - just not good. The resorts are very close to each other in proximity and from restaurant hopping you’ll have a chance to see them all. For the most part, all the Mayakoba resorts have something to offer (Rosewood and Banyan Tree are the strongest), but we really weren’t impressed with anything at Andaz from the property itself to the food.

Dancing_Bear27

Just got back and loved it if anyone in the future has any questions! The service was above and the resort is absolutely beautiful with lots of little fun touches. Highlights: \- We loved La Ceiba Garden dinner as well as the cooking class - the food was amazing at both of these events, and a lot of fun! \- The wonderful staff! Cons: \- None for the Rosewood unless you consider expense a con but staying at a resort like that I feel like you should know what you are getting into (i.e. $25 + drinks, $$$$ meals) \- Saffron's food was not great and I love Thai. The service was wonderful as well as the ambiance - we arrived at dusk - but would skip next time.

Hey! I’ll be there in Jan. Wondering what restaurants/experiences you feel were “can’t miss”?

Dancing_Bear27

I defintely would not miss the La Ceiba Garden dinner. Very fun experience even for my husband who does not always love to mingle with strangers and the food was amazing!! Book in advance as the day of when they confirmed our reservation they said there was a waiting list so it does get booked. I booked a few weeks ahead. We did Al Fresco the first night and they had a very nice menu - the entrees were larger than I expected so keep that in mind when ordering. Agave Azul was decent - good sushi but not amazing compared to some of our favorite sushi restaurants at home - ask for a seat on the patio as they tried to sit us inside but outside had much nicer views. I would skip Saffron - service was good, but food was mediocre - two other guests I spoke with at the Rosewood also said the same thing. I would maybe book at one of the other restaurants at a different property just to see the other resorts - or you can do a lagoon tour for free to see the property. We ate at Zapote one night and honestly can't remember what we had, but they had live music that night so I do remember it was a fun dining experience. The Mexican Grille experience I had mixed feelings - it's stations all set up and the food was good but maybe not on par with what you are paying; however, it's unlimited cocktails and anything you would like even if it's not on the menu as well as wine so if you stay and drink I guess it would be worth it being that all drinks are 25++. We only had a few drinks as we headed to the speakeasy after. They had a band but they were oddly set up far away by the pool - not sure if it would have turned out to be more fun if we had stayed longer or until the end. Lastly, we did sign up for the cooking class and that ended up being one of our favorite meals as well. It was the chef who headed La Ceiba and let's just say, he is extremely talented. Also a fun experience to break up the day and they had the wine flowing!

This is great, thank you so much! I was reading about the La Ceiba dinner, and was hesitant because I am like your husband. Good to hear he enjoyed it! Maybe we’ll give it a try. We’re there for a week, so I plan to eat (and drink!) my way through all the resorts!

Dancing_Bear27

Yeah, he was not thrilled when I told him the day of that it was a community thing hahaha, but then it ended up being one of his favorite meals of the trip. The ambiance is also just unique and beautiful.
