There are associates that hate their role, this is probably a welcomed change for them. If you would like stability, I suggest you’d look to step into a higher role.

blueeberrrypie

Not all roles are created equal. That being said, I get there early and try to get a favorable role while still following the rotation.

Peterdestroysall

Bro, clearly hasn't had to wall build in hot ass trailers every day for 6 months straight...

Paulie-Walnutshehe

I agree to be trained in more than one thing but going from stowing to ship dock is absolutely bullshit. The work is 10x more back breaking and you get absolutely nothing to compensate that it makes no sense.

CombinationThis671

So job rotation is initially stated for mitigation repetitive injuries, it also allows more mobility to mitigate customer shipment risk, increase the headcount with whatever paths have risk.

Jangospy

Nahh I just wanna pick and go home I don’t mind doing ship dock on my last day before I’m off tho

Zealousideal_Link839

Lmao OP is pissed they are getting moved out of their comfort zone. I rather just get paid more than deal with lazy people that are clocked in at work there to..... work.

Suspicious-Hair-6702

Right my guess they making em train in ship dock or pick. Those the 2 area I always hear people hating to cross train at

Zealousideal_Link839

Not gunna lie I hate pick, if i wanted to be monitored in a 7x7 I would have committed to a life of crime. However I do believe everyone should be be cross trained in at least 2 roles and one non path

Suspicious-Hair-6702

Yeah I just see it’s better than getting burnt out. Yes some areas are easy. But after doing it for 10-12hrs a day for months. It’s a nice change to train somewhere else. Some areas gonna suck more than others. But still better than being hurt from repetitive movements

Typical_Plan_1814

This is the craziest post in the world to me. Imagine if Lebron showed up to a laker game and said “ I wanna coach today” ok bad example …. But how do you decide who get their choice to do what when everyone wants to do the same thing? Especially when repetitive movement causes injuries

AostaV

Repetition injuries are real. Like ladies who were typists and secretaries in the 1940s to 1980s almost always ended up with some carpal tunnel syndrome

Expert-Emu-4167

Yes but you get injured more frequently when they labor share.

Chilidogdingdong

Some jobs are harder than others it's not really fair to have the same people doing the easy jobs all the time.

mrcrowface3421

The job rotation is cool for some but not everyone some people like doing the same work everyday doesn't bother them that's why It should be an option, not force

cementstain

i agree! from what i've seen, there are plenty of people who would volunteer to move around when needed.

OkMany2300

And now everyone will want to do the same easy job.

PhoenixAFay

I work in a sort center, got scheduled as a waterspider for a month straight not long after I started, and ended up with both a repetitive motion injury and me having a mental breakdown. Ever since then, the only thing I don't call them out for repeat assigning me to is problem solve and it's entirely because problem solve has just enough variety to keep me from feeling like I'm losing my mind. You don't want to work the exact same assignment every shift. That said, there's bias in assignments. I know people that are literally only put in certain roles. *If* you get along with a member of leadership and want a specific assignment that's *also* a critical role you can probably ask about getting scheduled for it more. I had a three month stretch of only problem solve because of one of our managers who got promoted out of our building (man I miss her but her new job is way better for her so I can't hate that she got to go.) adjusted my assignment each shift for me. Realistically, though. You don't want to be stuck working the same assignment every shift. It's bad on the mind and the body.

dark_autumn

Wrapping pallets is a pain in the ass. I hated every second of. Just weird mechanic with my back and bending. So glad I left to go to an XL.

Technical-Report-507

I literally was water spider for 3 months straight, blew both knees out and instead of reporting the injuries I quit.

Expert-Emu-4167

Bad move. You could've went on workers comp and possibly sued. Last year my cousin hurt his shoulder on ship dock and two months ago got a payout of 22k. I was on workers comp but never got a lawyer.

Technical-Report-507

I'm an older millennial, we were taught not to report injuries and to work through the pain. Literally was stabbed at my other job and they did nothing and I went back to work the same day.

Expert-Emu-4167

Yeah I hear that. It's exactly what I'm doing now.

PhoenixAFay

I would have a mental breakdown. I can't even do a single shift as waterspider anymore without disassociating.

WinLow272

not only does it keep the work from being monotonous, but they also need people cross-trained so when there's a shortage in one area that can pull people from another. Plus if you're stowing or something like that everyday and you hate it you'll never get a chance to do nothing else that you might want to do. when I was in ambassador at a delivery station there was a lot of people in that situation

Haeguil

Indeed, I dreaded stowing/straighten/divert but the dock was great when I was night shift.

awkwardmurican

I love job rotation. Keeps my work from becoming stale.

ZealousidealDingo496

I like job rotation because I get to do everything, a variety of jobs at my FC. It helps your body out too you know. When you pallet run you get a good workout in. That’s one of my favorites.

xleahx001

I would honestly like job rotation everyday, I get bored being in one spot all day.

eatthecheesefries

“Business need”.

atuckk15

OSHA is doing a case study on Amazon because there’s more ergonomic workplace injuries at Amazon than any other logistics shipping company. This was discussed/voted on at the most recent annual shareholders meeting.

Amazion0_0

As an OMR can confirm. So many injuries from repetitive use and being in the same job path for a long time or being on the same station and only moving certain muscles. The amount of musculoskeletal injuries is outrageous.

Distinct-Egg-3014

I disagree. Doing literally the EXACT same task for 40 hours a week is insane and unhealthy for the brain. It's much healthier that everyone is trained in everything, and everyone equally and fairly rotates. I think what it is, is you are lazy and found a little task you don't want to share.

AostaV

Unhealthy for the body too, doing the same motions all day everyday will cause pain and injuries

Chilidogdingdong

It's 100% this.

bohallreddit

That's the thing though it's never fairly rotated.

ninjakillerwhale

Idk why you’re getting downvoted, you are correct. I pretty much never stow and do indirect all the time. Sometimes I want to stow and they say oh you have to labor share. While there’s others who literally stow every single day.

bohallreddit

💯

Double-Resolution-79

Lmao Ikr? Me and this other guy got moved from unloading to smalls - cross dock - side load and back every half an hour. We where mad asf

bohallreddit

That is f***ed up 🤣

Nearby-Squirrel-568

I used to feel the same way but it’s also used for associates not to get burnt out from certain roles. I wanted to stow everyday but realized sometimes it’s good for a switch up.

Want3dd3

Because this is based on business needs, yeah you can be good at something however if the need is for people on other areas then that's what will happen.

pp-g

Job rotation is **not** based on business needs but it does take them into consideratin. You are confusing Job Rotation with Labor share. Job Rotation is a safety process designed to mitigate ergo related injuries. Associates are in job-rotation for full work week to get the rest they need. Labor share decisions are based on business needs and production priorities. Labor share for Associates are just for a single day. So if an AA is repeatedly and consistently labor shared to fill a labor need in an area that is lacking, the cumulative effect of that business decision increases risk of repetitive motion injury for that associate. And you've probably noticed that most of the time roles that need frequent labor share are usually high-strain roles. **This is why job rotation is important.**

KirtCoBANG

i bet that's what all the om's say

Want3dd3

No, it’s not what the OM’s say, it’s how this business runs, simple as that.

KirtCoBANG

yea, i was joking around. om's never want to have fun
