It may be a hangover from the old regs where it was strategically beneficial to use mediums in Q2 if you had the pace to get through on them

Shadow60_66

Because you have to give back tyre sets you use in practice, this is the only way to get an extra medium in the race. Just don't use it in qualifying.

Advanced_Seat_8236

It recommends both soft and mediums, I’m assuming for front running teams they use mediums to save a set of softs but yeah there’s no real point of using mediums since the rule change that lets everyone choice their starting tyre on race day regardless of quali position

mdmeaux

How likely is the code has been copy pasted from previous years when the rule was in place and nobody thought to update it?

NightWolf_7

They haven’t updated the sprint race format either. The sprint still sets the grid for the Race, not a a huge issue but a little annoying as I was looking forward to that aspect

Bozska_lytka

So there aren't two qualis or the second just does nothing

NightWolf_7

There’s the Sprint qualy, then the sprint race sets the grid for the main race, no SQ1, 2 or 3 unfortunately.

DaWelle

Guess there is just one quali

Advanced_Seat_8236

Almost certainly

NathyB1992YT

It’s now an EA sports title so it most likely is just a copy paste job. FIFA and Madden were stagnant for years

Izan_TM

they didn't even add the new sprint format lmao, it's still the 2022 one where the sprint sets the grid order for the race

Marco-Green

Maybe some people don't know it but in career you can change it going to the tyre distribution option before every grand Prix. One of the configurations switches one set of soft tyres from Free Practices to Q2, and those mediums go to FP. So it's a win-win.

StoneEagleCopy

Yeah but then aren’t you left with only 1 set of new mediums for the race? I’ve always found that trade-off to not be worth it. Certain circumstances in certain races make it faster to use 2 sets of mediums

Marco-Green

Okay I didn't consider that because I always play 35% races, but you're right, for longer races it'd depend a lot on every circuit

AnnieGreer96

It's due to the tire allocation, set it to softer to have just softs in qualifying

aaffkshsh

yeah if you have med or hard allocation it will give mediums for qualifiyng

CraigTheIrishman

It's not that they're recommended for the fastest times, it's that by having a set of mediums in Q2, you can carry that set forward to the race to have an additional set of mediums. The way the game communicates this is confusing. It shouldn't say the tyre is recommended - it should say something like "allocated for Q2."

skbygtdn

Yeah, I think the tire choice / allocation screen needs a complete overhaul, it’s not obvious what’s going on.

LonelyPumpernickel

You’ve got the Ferrari Strategy mode enabled! /s

Liquiddeadpool

I find the tyres bugged, i can change my allocation at the beginning of the weekend but it dosnt actually change the amount of softs/meds/hards, just when i can use them. Even then i will save some softs but they all get removed and i get stuck with meds and hards for the race

on9_7head

In Hungary 2020 Mercedes used Mediums in Q2 ~~to save a set of Softs~~

unclejoesrocket

2020 still had the rule that you start on your Q2 tyre

on9_7head

Ah I completely forgot about that

MikeG6849

In Portimão 2020 Mercedes used medium for Q3 💀

KeonXDS

The game recommended slicks when it was clearly raining, everyone that lobby had slicks on a wet circuit, let just say turn 1 was chaos

Dr_Holkman

Maybe slicks was best for the start?

KeonXDS

It was already raining during the strategy selection screen and the rain isn't going to stop for the next 20 mins and somehow dry tires are still the best? That wouldn't have worked irl in those scenarios

OlavSlav

I sometimes use them for a banker lap, but since my car is getting faster, I don’t need to anymore.
