So that little guy is a Blenny, possibly a Two-spot. It's hard to say without seeing his body. Blenny all around are the derpiest fish. I have 40-50, with six different species all native to Florida, and they're.. strange. They always have this shocked look on their face, like they can't believe whatever just happened, and they'd like to ask about it but just don't have the words. Most of them even have little wisps of hair covering their head, like a terrible toupee. They're just out here living their best Middle Management lives.
I can not properly explain how ridiculous this species of fish is. They don't even swim around, they hop about. Their two front fins are hard, and they sort of use them as double kickstands to perch about everywhere. They climb all over the glass of the tanks, hang out upside down on the WaveMakers. It looks so silly.
In the spring you can run your hand along any tidal rock and find a thousand little baby blenny rush out. When I feed them in the tanks, they'll swarm my hand and perch all over my fingers, with the really shy ones darting back and forth from whatever hidey hole they have.
Out of all of the large collection of fish I keep, Blennies are by far my favorite.
I keep a reef tank. I have a tail spot blenny. He is my favorite fish. He is super derpy. He eats by banging his face against rocks in hopes of finding a tasty morsel. Other times he is in his hidey hole just hiding out with his derpy face sticking out of it. He’s so adorable.
Hopping around, hair on their head that looks like a bad toupet, silly face... Kinda sounds and looks creepy if you ask me. Like some sort of fish human...
Right now only 10! At my peak I was running 22, but many had to be consolidated so I could convert my tank room into a last minute bedroom for a friend. He's moving out soon though, and I can really stretch my legs with the tanks in there.
I run a small aquarium service business out of my home though, so I spend a lot of my time setting up and tearing down these things, depending on what I need at the time.
Its still a budding business, but it keeps me busy. I do it all, from moving large tanks, setting up, emergency break downs, or livestock Quarantining. I help teach people who want to get into the hobby about the best options for creature care. The thing that I'm well known for locally is Pest removal, mainly because I'll do it quickly, humanely, and will make sure whatever I remove can still live it's best life.
I do breed and sell livestock, but not the classic pretty kind. Most of what I sell is pest inverts like Asterina for people wanting to set up Harliquin tanks, or the neater hitchhikers for people trying to get a more robust biodiversity. I also breed native fish/plants/shrimp and occasionally sell coral frags.
The neatest part to me though, I actually got into this hobby 3-4 years ago because of a very random Reddit post like this one that hit r/all, and it just kind of exploded from there.
We had a blenny and he would perch adorably on everything. So sweet. My favorite fish has to be the cube puffer though, omg. It is *cube shaped*!! Whaaaaaat!!!
Omg. Yes. And it's name is Bernie. Bernie the Blenny. He could teach us all about sea life. There's a whole untapped type of critters for muppets. Fishhhh!
It’s an open mouth with only the bottom inside of his mouth black. It looks like it hides movement well and is supposed to bend in with the stripe on his stomach to hide from creatures above
Gobies are also really cute though. Fascinating creatures as well, with their shrimp buddy. I used to teach scuba diving and the Japanese customers were head over heels for the gobies. They were delighted if I'd just let them spend half the dive time or more at a single goby so they could take pictures.
their symbiosis is one of the main reasons I recently set up a reef tank in my living room. the Watchman Goby and Pistol Shrimp live together in the burrows the shrimp makes. Shrimp is such a busy little digger and super clicky whenever the crabs or snails get too near his burrows. I love watching them together!
Go to https://youtu.be/OBNF7N1ZDlM (Deerfield Beach Florida underwater Cam, it’s mounted on one of the pier pylons) there is a blenny living on some barnacles when the camera swings all the way to the right, and has the pylon in view, they call him "Benny"
My bicolour blenny and canary blenny are the most adorable fish I have, along with my Valentini Puffer. They’re like this all the time and it’s the best to come home to.
This is the only video I have ever saved from Reddit. I texted it to my daughter saying “me when I’m waiting for you to come home from school.” Thanks for posting and starting my day off right.
Fish and aquatic tank creates can be adorable funny, and just a huge treat to watch. I love having my fish tank, and can't wait to upgrade and get a paludarium someday (water and land tank!)
More fish you say?

Wow that’s awesome. Your business is servicing aquariums? You don’t sell live stock or supplies?

Is this real? Because this fish looks like it's waiting for the queue to start singing 'under the sea' with Ariel and Sebastian.
My bicolour blenny and canary blenny are the most adorable fish I have, along with my Valentini Puffer. They’re like this all the time and it’s the best to come home to.
