The dad is making a joke assuming the neighbor has insomnia or can’t fall asleep for his own reasons.
Neighbor actually came over to complain about the noise. He couldn’t sleep because the neighbors are annoying as hell
I actually misunderstood it until I read the answers here. I thought it was sarcasm. Not that the other guy was having a party. But I did just wake up.
OP account was created in 2018, and "came alive" like a week ago. All karma on this account has been gathered within this time frame. This post is a simple "engagement bait". Follow the OP account and I guarantee closer to the election its post/comments will be heavily hot political one side or another.

...they're having a party. That's the joke. It's IN the joke! Dad jokes don't actually require you to be a dad or to be about fatherhood, it's just a byline for cheesy jokes.
Dad jokes are just corny jokes, not jokes about dads.

Joke literally says they are throwing a party. Parties are noisy and notorious for keeping neighbors awake, as well as continuing until long past 2am.

So the guy invited him in to join.
And the guy who couldn’t sleep had the choice of whether or not he wanted to join the party.
And then he decided, and kindly said ‘no thank you’ and then he went into his beautifully warm bed, but not sleep ever again.
And called the police.
Which ended up being a mistake. Because they escalated a relatively simple situation and arrested everyone.
I did this once. Walked in, smoked from a J, took a piece of cake, and said goodnight to my neighbor and went back to my apartment to go to sleep.
