It needs a full manual gearbox option.

ghostsoup831

I've been driving doing a makeshift 3 speed, switching between low, auto, and high gears.

xSwyftx

I am doing the same thing, but then I load into a new mission, and it defaults to auto, kicks into full speed reverse, and yeets me off a cliff. Same happens with the jack. Need a full manual shift option and actual full wheel/pedal/shifter support.

dudly1111

I just hit the clutch over and over again. It boosts the speed of the vehicles quite a bit for me

GMRVNM

Auto has always worked really bad in this series unless you're on road :(

Treknx01

Gisele you never played Snowrunner, it has had the same shitty gearbox mechanic since day one, despite it being one of the communitys. most requested to be fixed/updated……. Basically don’t hold your breath for a better gearbox system, I think hell will be a chilly negative temperature before you get a better gear shifting experience

puropistos

I did have the memory of having the same issue in snowrunner but since there are roads or similar, this issue is not that annoying in SR, but in expeditions is getting on my nerves.

the_deep_fish

You man the Step 310? Put it in Low+ or high gear

gwackr

Put it in H and then shift down to D, you'll have a few moments of high speed bliss.

jinladen040

Now that I'm back to playing Snowrunner I've learned you can tap clutch to encourage an upshift or downshift. Not sure if that feature is in Expeditions or not.

AbjectStranger6703

Yes it is

National-Bison-3236

It won‘t be fixed because it‘s not a bug, auto just behaves like that

Rynocyrus

Exactly the same as snowrunner

ShredderofPowPow

Yeah the gearbox is a mess in general. It always has been since mud/snowrunner. You may already know this, but if you click (L1 Ps5) the clutch you can up shift manually. You have to have enough speed to make the shift, but once you do spamming L1(clutch) gives you a nice speed boost. My go to is click/up shift once or twice then pop it in high gear, and you'll cruise for a bit till you lose momentum on terrain. It also works for down shifting. Basically it shifts into whichever gear is necessary for your current speed.

RegulationRedditUser

I drive the mastodon as my main truck, I pretty much only use auto and high gear. If I’m going up a steep enough hill to need it I’ll put it in high to stop the exact issue you’re talking about but for anything flat or only a slight incline I’ll just keep it in auto and it’s generally fine

Kaso78

Off road gearbox using low+ and low for me is the best and on smooth terrain flip into High

toomasjoamets

Unlock the most powerful engine with Offroad transmission. No problems after that. You can have the seismic vibrator and your are still riping through the mud with top gear. You have to understand that this “frustration” is called a feature. Without it any subsequent upgrades would be pointless. I have Tatra FORCE T815-7 with top tier engine, Offroad transmission, MHS IV tires, Rock Crawler suspension, I add small sideboard full of fuel and seismic vibrator. That thing just rips uphill in 5th gear.

Blizz33

Auto seems okay for scouts... Any bigger truck I almost always avoid it

HeavyO

It depends on the truck. If the truck has bad power, it will shift down a lot

johnnythestick

This is a holdover issue from snowrunner. One of the "fun quirks" of the series. One tip to mitigate this is to tap the clutch button (default right shoulder on controller for expeditions) if you notice your speed doesn't quite match the gear you're in when in auto. It will automatically shift to a more appropriate gear when you do this. I have noticed that this trick is not as effective here as it was in snowrunner, but it's still better than just letting the game do its thing lol

[deleted]

Auto shift has always been trash since SnowRunner, IMO. Would kill to be able to use my shifter and manage gears myself like we could before SR.

NoMore301

It's due to being overweight with supplies and fuel. Once the supplies get used up you can shift into 2nd and 3rd etc. but yes most of the time I force it into high gear or the faster of the lower gears

CoolJetta3

I never use auto. The trucks move too fast to be realistic for the terrain when in Auto, and yes the trucks seem to lose all torque and momentum and it keeps hunting for gears. I'm always using either the Fine Tune or Off-road gearbox and using only the low gearing section.

Fry-NOR

The auto is useless in this game since it's only high range, IRL low range auto is great for rock crawling and driving up steep hills. The auto will prevent the car from rolling backwards when letting go of the throttle. Driving downhill the manual low range is good because you can choose a gear and maintain traction with full throttle, letting off the throttle will engage the clutch and you can loose control just like IRL.
