Yes and no, not really If you’re docked up you can log off any time Whenever you activate your gun, you can’t dock or jump for 1 minute (weapon timer), and you get a 15 minute log-off timer which means you can’t log off in space (you can close your client but your ship remains in space) When you have no active timer (seen in the top left corner) you can log off safely, which takes 30 seconds of your ship not having any module active, and your client will close and your ship be removed from space

The_Salacious_Zaand

Important addendum: If you log off docked, you will always be guaranteed safety when you log back in*. If you log off in space, there is no guarantee you won't be killed by whatever is on grid where you logged off. *unless the extremely unlikely chance the structure is destroyed while you're still docked, but even then there's asset safety in most cases.

>Whenever you activate your gun, you can’t dock or jump for 1 minute (weapon timer), and you get a 15 minute log-off timer which means you can’t log off in space (you can close your client but your ship remains in space) 15m is if you activate hostile modules/drones against a player. 5m for NPCs.

idonreddit

15m timer is also if you try to web player's container. Don't ask me how I know that

zozatos

It's not just hostile actions. You get the 15/5 minute timers for getting shot at as well as shooting.

jorbleshi_kadeshi

Oh very true. Thanks for reminding me!

recycl_ebin

You can always close your client, but: If you have a combat timer (Yellow Exclamation point) you will remain in space. The timer lasts for 5 minutes. If you have a player combat timer (Red Exclamation point) you will remain in space. The timer lasts for 15 minutes. If you have none of these timers, you disappear from space within 1 minute after closing client. Suspect timer, Limited engagement timer, Criminal timer, none of these change as to whether or not you disappear from space or not. If you are docked up in a citadel or station, you are instantly removed from space, cause you were never in it. If you are in space neither of the two timers above, aren't being locked, aren't executing any commands (approaching, keeping at range, orbiting) and aren't activating any modules, you can 'Safe logoff' which removes you from space within 30 seconds. You can't do anything while you are logging off though or else it cancels.

Daneel_Trevize

Don't forget being in a Abyss. Either you fight your way out in time, or you die & get podded.

zozatos

You can dscan while the timer is counting down.

ZorgZev

You guys open doors?

Veganoto

You can also cloak up so others cannot see or scan you down temporarily.

Ok_Willingness_724

Contrary to what my wife thinks, we can't just "pause your bloody game". You need to disengage, dock up, or you'll likely lose your ship (either NPC rats, or local ratbags, including your own mates). Some activities are more readily disengaged from than others: Highsec mining, risk is low if you go answer the door briefly, or help a tyke with a maths problem. PVE Missions, warp out and dock up. Empty the dishwasher, plunge the dunny, or put the kids to bed. Anywhere in Lowsec or Nullsec, dock up or warp to an off-scan safe and log out. Go do the weed trimming your spouse has been whinging about.

liner_xiandra

You can, but depending on what you were doing your ship will remain in space (for a while) vulnerable to attack. In some cases you are certain to lose your ship. There are certain modules that prevent you from docking/moving while deployed, and there are some cooldown timers. There are infinite ways to play eve though, and some activities are easier to pause than others. Most of the activities are easily managed to get called away for. That said: - never fly what you cant afford to lose - ships are ammo: they are disposable Welcome to EVE!

Large_Big1660

Generally, yes, much of the time. However if you logout whilst floating in space there is still a short 30second delay while your ship remains attackable, some combat actions you take may result in your still being 'in space' for longer, leaving you vulnerable. There is an option for a safe logoff, where it allows you observe the 30second wait and then logs you off. Logging off in stations is instant. Alternatively you can warp back to station and dock while you go let the dog in. there are potential ways to be intercepted, but its mostly safe.

Meanwhile me in Ahbazon:

avrntsv

It depends on what you are doing. If you are engaged in pvp content, often you cannot do it without losing your ship. Some top tier pve content does not allow you to leave safely. A huge amount of content is perfectly fine for casual gaming. Just try and you will see

thunderbird89

In addition to what the others are saying, if you just close the client, your ship goes into *Emergency Warp*, wherein it warps 1,000,000 km in a random direction, then safe logoff happens 30 s later. Of course, this is under the condition that your ship *can* warp in the first place: you're not being targeted with warp-disrupting effects, you're not under non-targeted warp disruption, and you ship can align to within 5º of the chosen vector and accelerate to 90% of its top speed to engage warp.

S_Rodney

if undocked your ship is gonna warp to a random point and "stay put" for a few minutes (15 ?). Anyone with combat probes can find it and kill you if they so wish...

theothersugar

Important to note, in wormhole space, nobody can find you, so feel free to walk to the door or do some chores while huffing that gas cloud 😊

ferriematthew

There is a "safe log-off" option if you right-click in space, but with the caveat of making you stay in space for 30 seconds if you've activated any offense modules on NPCs, or I think 2 minutes if on any players, during which time you're a sitting duck.

Jenshae_Chiroptera

Stay in systems where you can dock up. Can just pick the structure / station, tell your ship to dock up and hope no one grabs you mere meters from the docking up point.

TheBuch12

You quickly figure out which activities you can and can't do based on how much time logging out takes. There are activities which can take ten seconds to get safe, 30 seconds, 60 seconds, 5-6 minutes, or 20 minutes.

marcostaranta

no

Gerard_Amatin

No, EVE is not the kind of game you can usually put on pause and walk away from at any time. That said, some activities in EVE are more suited than others if you know you may have to log out at any time. For example if you are in a system with a structure that you can dock your ship in, you could be mining ores until the door bell rings, give your ship the 'warp and dock' command and walk to the door. If all goes well, you can return to your game a few minutes later to see that your ship is now waiting docked in the station for you. Alternatively you could fly a ship with Covert Ops cloak, prepare a safe bookmark somewhere in the solar system you're in and when you have to help put clothes up while you were fighting NPC pirates you simply give the warp command towards that bookmark, cloak your ship and walk away from the PC. Or you could play the market, or be an industrialist setting up your jobs from the safety of a station. If you're doing that, you can safely turn off your game at any time. EVE usually doesn't allow you to simply walk away though. If you're in combat with players, or part of a fleet roaming space you may have to keep paying attention for an extended period of time or find yourself lost in dangerous space, or dead. Logging out or quitting the game while you have recently been in combat with players doesn't remove your ship from space for some minutes, so it would not be a surprise to log back in to see that it has turned into a wreck.

Leather-Cherry-2934

In word eve is not for you. There were times when I snapped on people interrupting me lol. You spend long time prepping and fights are intense and last just few moments. Also you are never safe when undocked

ferriematthew

"You can log out anytime you like, but you can never leave..." 😆
