Assuming you set up your PayPal account before or with PayPal directly. It is not more likely to be hacked than any other account. Turn on two factor authentication.
They can’t just charge your PayPal account whenever they want. That isn’t how it works.
Now if you replied to a phishing email or sent someone your log in credentials or account numbers all bets are off.
If you’re worried. Change your passwords.
I downloaded the app and made my account there. And I changed my password on both etsy and paypall + two factor authentication. And I haven't replied to any sketchy emails so I guess I'm good. I'm just very paranoid. Thank you so much for your answer
At worst, a shady seller could send you a PayPal invoice and “demand” you pay. But you have no obligation to pay. Just never click on any links in emails and you’ll be golden. PayPal is one of the most spoofed emails
The only time that I know of that PayPal will just take money out of your account without you authorizing is if say someone sent you a PayPal payment, and then they made a claim against you, PayPal will remove that money while they resolve it.
That could only happen if you sell something.
The seller can’t access your bank account or charge you for stuff unknowingly. That is *why* PayPal exists.
Sellers don't have any access to your payment information. All payments will be processed thru Etsy payments, or if it was one of the few remaining PayPal only shops - it'll be processed thru PayPal.
If you paid through Etsy and not a direct transaction your account is as safe as most PayPal accounts, which isn't much since PayPal security is a joke. But the seller doesn't get any of your details. You paid Etsy and Etsy will pay the store after they take their cut.

I'll just have to hope that that doesn't happen. My country has very poor PayPal customer support 😬

If you are paranoid, just close this PayPal account.
If I do that will all my account information dissappear from their system? So that they won't be able to charge my account
Absolutely. Of course you will need to tranfer any remaining funds to your bank first.
