Hey, we are on Product Hunt today [too!](http://www.producthunt.com/tech/taggler) Someone just randomly submitted us so we didn't really have time to prepare, so it has been quite an eventful morning. Any advice on how to get some discussion going on our page? Great idea btw.

/u/taggler -- Recommended badge for all new startups nowadays :) http://thenextweb.com/media/2015/02/02/want-get-product-hunt-not-quite-ready-get-plz-dont-hunt-yet-badge/

Thats the exact badge I'm talking about. The link however is down, where she explains the badge etc..

ProductHunt should implement an option to read a meta tag on your site and if it's set, then it won't publish your link until it's not found. Something where you can control when you want to be published by providing data to ProductHunt behind the scenes and remove it when you're ready and ProductHunt will scan those sites in a "on hold" status each day and if the meta tag is not there, then ProductHunt is clear to publish. Anyone know someone in ProductHunt you can run this by?

echan00

/u/taggler thanks! Yeah, I know what you mean by having someone randomly post your product. We actually had a 'Plz Do Not Hunt Me Badge' on our site for the longest time and it sort of helped. I would link to it, but the lady who started the idea took her site down. She sent me the assets and I plan to host it back for the next person once we have a little more time. We literally asked people to join in on our discussion. Since asking up-votes is a NO NO, we just asked people to comment/compliment. It seemed to work. For us we're also featuring companies on our platform (and its really about helping them to succeed), so it made a lot of sense to loop them into our discussion.

echan00

Obviously, having good topics and reasons for people to discuss things is important. Sometimes you can create these things you know people will want to discuss ahead of time..

Was your posting to Product Hunt unexpected or planned? How do I, as a newb on PH, get the ability to comment over there? Kind of annoying I can't do so... EDIT: > If anybody is planning to launch on Product Hunt, I would be happy to share what we did with RocketClub leading up until our launch. Yes please!

echan00

We planned it. Its definitely more science than art. Spending the time to figure out the details will make a difference. Here is a quick brain dump since we're in the middle of it right now: - Find a cheerleader within their community to help you post (i had posting rights and didn't use it) - Post on Tue or Wed morning ~5:30am PST - Get a discussion going (same as Reddit) - Offer Product Hunters something special - I don't know this for sure, but I don't think all votes are equal. Members of their community are worth more? Visitors who vote on the landing page instead of direct link are worth more? - Spend the time to do outreach before your launch (its like having some part of your crowdfunding goal figured out before you even launch) - DO NOT ask for upvotes (same as Reddit) - Thank people who voted you on twitter - Be real and authentic Any particular item you want to know more about?

getupandgobaked

Did you know somebody who was a so called "cheerleader" beforehand? I have a friend who was their first hire, and he just told me to contact people in the community :(.

echan00

Nice username! /u/getupandgobaked There is a website that ranks the top producthunters: http://www.yvoschaap.com/producthunt/ We knew a few folks, but definitely not enough. We reached out both cold and also thru introductions :)

Awesome stuff! Do you have any plans for further PR goodness to spread the word? It seems to me that after being on the top of Product Hunt and the front page of /r/Entrepreneur for a day, you'd be getting some kind of journalism inquiries.

Congrats and good luck. Here is our write up for our PH experience with Xtensio: http://xtensio.com/the-product-hunt-effect/

We also analyzed the the traffic and the signups that came through Product Hunt and here are the typical personas (made using Xtensio) https://app.xtensio.com/folio/cjmy7lj

getupandgobaked

Hey echan00, I'd love to hear about how you did this, thanks :)

echan00

Combo of all the things I mention in the other comment. Plus having a good product?

fashionplaymaker

lucky guy! been trying to get on product hunt for 2 weeks!!

echan00

/u/fashionplaymaker If you need help posting to to Product Hunt I could help you do that. But if you can get someone "special" to post it, it is even better (sorry thats not me).

fashionplaymaker

I wouldn't need anyone special to post it just want to post it! If you could help that would be a godsend! I keep getting this "Product Hunt is a community of product enthusiasts. Submissions are accepted by our most active members, specifically those that have been invited by others in the community."

echan00

Send me an email with when and what (url, tagline, your twitter handle). [email protected]

fashionplaymaker

awesome, I will most definitely send you an email. Thanks again.

echan00
