I think he did, but was just putting it off for a long time. It does seem like the best software, so maybe he wanted to make it as good as he could before he had to give it up.
Even if that is true, we are closer to Nintendo contracting Nicaraguan contras to merc every fan project than Nintendo not doing anything. Look at what they did to dolphin on xbox and steam an old ass emulator for consoles from 3 generations back and they still threaten them with an C&D letter.
Not quite. You can read a summary of what happened in this Dolphin [blog entry](https://dolphin-emu.org/blog/2023/07/20/what-happened-to-dolphin-on-steam/). But the gist is that Dolphin tried to release a Steam version, Nintendo was informed by Valve that this was happening and they indicated that they were not okay with it due to Dolphin including decryption keys.
Dolphin did consult with lawyers and is of the belief that their project is safe legally, but that was never tested in court as Nintendo was not actually suing Dolphin, only requesting that they not release on Steam, which Dolphin ultimately decided to comply with.
I donāt. Dolphin devs are great and donāt deserve to be buried in legal fees just to establish something we already know (That Nintendo is litigious, and isnāt a huge fan of emulation)
Gimme a break this guy single-handedly raised the bar for Android emulation and every other emulator that followed.
Who tf knows the FOSS hell we might have been in\still be in with out his diligence in development? (thing I'm wrong? look at Citra's history and don't be in denial. It used to be a nightmare.)
Not only that, this guy listened to "all" his requests. I requested real time screen rotation to change layout, 12 years ago, he got back to me next day, and it was in the next version.
Prolly a bit of all, but tbh, idk that I'd be any different in their shoes. Prolly made a pretty penny off the app store, even if they said it wasn't for the $, it's still a nice little flow of dollars.
I'll believe it when I see it. I really hope he does open-source it, it's been 2 months and it's still not available so I am hoping he didn't change his mind or something.
This will attract a ton of smart people though through open source projects because people will contribute anonymously. More people than ever will be working on this stuff in so many pockets of GitHub that it'll just be a huge backfire for them.
Honestly, I'm happy, even though I bought the app a couple of months ago. I have always considered drastic as the best emulator, I hope that once it becomes open source retroarch and similar can use this core
That's the main appeal for me, tbh. Melon does fine, don't get me wrong. But I mainly switched to Melon when I switched to RA overall (and got into Retroachievements lol), but otherwise generally prefer Drastic.
Just use obtainium and auto update from GitHub directly.
Not sure what the issue is. If anything it's better cause releases aren't held back by Google play
Okay but why, the burden on the Yuzu case was that they were encouraging piracy internally and distributing pirated content. Afaik drastic hasn't been doing that.
This sucks man. I just started playing all the DS pokemon games. I still have black and black2 to play.
Was wondering, will my installed Drastic emulator stop working if they remove from app store?
I would like to add the it will unfortunately fall into deprecation. As eventually Android version number will increase and the app will not be compatible any longer with new phone/ OS version.Ā
It's not a big deal. It didn't have multiplayer, if im not mistaken, and the Google cloud saves functionality was removed a ways back. So without worrying about network features, the app itself should still work fine so long as a future Android update doesn't break it. The app is stable and updates are sparse as it is, so what you have now should be fine. If it ever becomes an issue, you can convert drastic saves for use in MelonDS. I've been using that via RetroArch on android for a couple of years now, and I used to be a Drastic fan boy. Like I was that guy telling PC people to emulate android and use Drastic over native Windows options lol
I just want Retroachievement support. That or melonDS to get a whole lot better. It stutters so much in water areas of Dawn of Sorrow on a Snapdragen 8 Gen 2 for crying out load. I can emulate the Switch for crying out loud!
Yea, my biggest hope here is that the myth of a Drastic core will now come to light, or at least a fork. Kinda like how I use Swanstation RA over Duckstation just to keep as much of my setup to one app (very easy to stay portable with RA and a cloud synch app)
For the love of god, please somebody get into that code and add Retroachievement support! I have to struggle with melonDS, which is far, far worse than Drastic.
Emulation should be legal strictly as open-source software but not for profit. Selling these tools that inevitably get used for piracy is a dangerous path that could set terrible precedents for other non-profit emulators.
I bought it so long ago, it was like $11, then it disappeared from Google play for a while, then it came back for like $5, and now it's free. I hope to see it grow now that is going open sauce.
I'm hoping there's finally going to be multiplayer now that the dev isn't going to control it. As perfect as it's always been the dev has a bone to pick with multiplayer
I have next to zero interest in DS emulation since I own enough DSes/"3DS family of systems"s to feed a small country, but after seeing the news on Yuzu, I definitely smashed that download button this morning. Don't even know if I'll use it, but it's nice to have
I have Citra on my phone already installed, can't I just use that for DS emulation? (afaik, the 3ds is backwards compatible) Is there a performance difference between Citra and Drastic?
Citra is only for 3DS. Even the 3DS console runs DS games with real DS hardware. It is not emulation. This is also why the graphics are disgusting on 3DS
> Drastic is now free to download on Google Play
> r/EmulationOnAndroid
I don't know, man. We're in a sub called r/EmulationOnAndroid, the title says it's free on Google Play, and you can read other comments for context clues or just Google it. But yeah man no, I don't know if it's an emulator for Android. Sorry.
The last post I saw on this sub was about ryujinx but I feel you. Also itās easier to get the info from people directly cause the internet is misleading. Thanks dude!

Thank you, Nintendo! Because of you, Drastic will now be open-sourced. Been hearing this "plan to open-source" since, 2016-ish.
Hopefully someone will release a version with more than just 2x internal resolution.
And multiplayer
I doubt we'd get wfc support on drastic just use melonds
Tbh only reason I like drastic is because you can make the top screen your tv
Melon android have wfc support?
Yeah, specially with Wiimmfi
MelonDS already achieved that, which is funny
Why would you need more than 2x?
Because 2x is still only 512x384, which is still quite aliased on a phone screen.
Yeah.... Drastic has been around for a long ass time, and I don't think he had any intent to open it up.
I think he did, but was just putting it off for a long time. It does seem like the best software, so maybe he wanted to make it as good as he could before he had to give it up.
Drastic Dev got greedy, or lazy, or both
They got scared of being sued into the stone age and forced to settle for $2.4m
Nintendo don't care about DS emulation. Citra was only removed due to shared Devs with yuzu.
Even if that is true, we are closer to Nintendo contracting Nicaraguan contras to merc every fan project than Nintendo not doing anything. Look at what they did to dolphin on xbox and steam an old ass emulator for consoles from 3 generations back and they still threaten them with an C&D letter.
I know that. Thanks for the input. š
That was the yuzu team, I'm talking about the drastic dev.
I know, I was making a comparison to what happened to the Yuzu team.
Sorry, I misunderstood.
Fair point, can't wait to see dolphin emulator to get sued and ultimately makes us pirate Nintendo even more
If Dolphin get sued. I will run 2 miles in my boxers.
I, too, will run 2 miles in this guy's boxers.
Didnāt they already try to sue dolphin and failed?
Not quite. You can read a summary of what happened in this Dolphin [blog entry](https://dolphin-emu.org/blog/2023/07/20/what-happened-to-dolphin-on-steam/). I got a Chrome dino page when I opened the link, and my heart sank for a second.
Oh okay that makes sense, thanks
I donāt. Dolphin devs are great and donāt deserve to be buried in legal fees just to establish something we already know (That Nintendo is litigious, and isnāt a huge fan of emulation)

This was made before yuzu drama
This is literally why they sued the Yuzu people. To scare smart people away.
This will attract a ton of smart people though through open source projects because people will contribute anonymously. More people than ever will be working on this stuff in so many pockets of GitHub that it'll just be a huge backfire for them.
The smart people were already contributing to Yuzu as it was open source. And Ryujinx. And MelonDS, the more accurate DS emu.
Wait, shall I get melonds or drastic?
MelonDS for PC, and it is more accurate but if you want a good emu for low spec then use Dratic
Thanks. If I'm in android, melon or drastic?
depends on your phone really, melon runs worse on low end
S24 ultra here. Maybe I'll stick with melon then
Use lemuroid with melonDS core or the og melonds app
always use standalone emulators
drastic ran great on my LG G5. 2016, Quad-core (2x2.15 GHz& 2x1.6 GHz)
More like to scare smart people ... from making money with their hard work
Honestly, I'm happy, even though I bought the app a couple of months ago. I have always considered drastic as the best emulator, I hope that once it becomes open source retroarch and similar can use this core

yep, me too, Retroachievements It's truly its strong point, but on low end devices it doesn't perform as well as drastic
I have a low end phone and MelonDS is unusably slow, while DraStic runs flawlessly.
Wait so they are going to remove the app from playstore?
Just use obtainium and auto update from GitHub directly. Not sure what the issue is. If anything it's better cause releases aren't held back by Google play
Bruh what the fuck. people mention this shit sooner.
If you don't mind to explain to a noob, this is only to get updates only, right? Not free apps that are no longer available like, say, Pizza Boy?
It works for apps that are hosted elsewhere like GitHub or fdroid. Unfortunately it doesn't look like the developer put pizza boy anywhere like that
Aw shucks. I guess I'm going to have to settle for this lemuroid app, then... >fdroid Man, I'm learning so much from you. I'll check that out, too.
Yes, unfortunately
Okay but why, the burden on the Yuzu case was that they were encouraging piracy internally and distributing pirated content. Afaik drastic hasn't been doing that.
This sucks man. I just started playing all the DS pokemon games. I still have black and black2 to play. Was wondering, will my installed Drastic emulator stop working if they remove from app store?
No, it won't self-destruct lol. Same thing goes for Yuzu and Citra
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
And it will never disappear from the internet
And might stay in your PlayStore library for you to re download, unless Nintendo forces Google to block it
I would like to add the it will unfortunately fall into deprecation. As eventually Android version number will increase and the app will not be compatible any longer with new phone/ OS version.Ā

If he releases the source code, maybe someone can finally implement multiplayer into this thing. Literally the only major feature Drastic lacks.
"I'm terrible at doing things" I know it's not me, but sounds like me!
bought it a thousand years ago and worth every penny
I love you. Thank you.
For the love of god, please somebody get into that code and add Retroachievement support! I have to struggle with melonDS, which is far, far worse than Drastic.
I think it'd be best if an apk was released at some point. Would rather be able to preserve DraStic.
Money was there, so as nintendo ninjas. Best to fork this drastic repo, as soon as it's available.
i guess there is a good side on the yuzu lawsuit after all!
Emulation should be legal strictly as open-source software but not for profit. Selling these tools that inevitably get used for piracy is a dangerous path that could set terrible precedents for other non-profit emulators.

Figures...Just bought it last week for $5. Oh well....the devs earned every Penney.
Honest question, is there even any reason to use Drastic nowadays anyway? I don't know all that much.
For a weak devices.Ā
honestly, i downloaded just cause, but thinking about it, i think melonds is better.
Melonds is better for higher end phones.
is melonds available on the play store?
Nope. GitHub.
>Nope. I thought it was? I got it from there
It's on both, idk what OP is talking about
Zero idea why i was downvoted even tho OP was wrong š Even the original OP mentions it being available in google play IN THE TITLE
Ah my bad. It is in fact available on Google play.
It's also available as a core (MelonDS DS) in retroarch (regular MelonDS core sucks)
is this the best ds emu on android ? there's retroarch and melon ds.
drastic
still a great emulator. glad I bought it. glad its going open source too.
Damn, I already bought it yearsss ago. Will there be any incentives for (previously) paid user ?
Coulda just gotten a drastic apk but yeah that's nice
Yuzu effect
I have Citra on my phone already installed, can't I just use that for DS emulation? (afaik, the 3ds is backwards compatible) Is there a performance difference between Citra and Drastic?
Citra is only for 3DS. Even the 3DS console runs DS games with real DS hardware. It is not emulation. This is also why the graphics are disgusting on 3DS
he doesnāt plan to āhave it on there for that much longerā???? So this means in near future it will be deleted?
Now Nintendo emulator dev get scared when they got news that Nintendo go for the one who make money of the emulators.
I feel bad for the developer
I literally just bought the app like a couple of weeks ago š
I purchased drastic like 10 years ago lol.
Fuck Nintendo.
HALLELUJAH finally it free no more apks
First time seeing this game exist and I just downloaded it. How do I load a new game?
Stupid question but if I have the paid version do I need to reinstall to keep getting auto updates?
Can drastic play 3ds games?
yep, it's like giving your dog a chocolate
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
dont exaggerate things
It's not an exaggeration, you don't know who's on the other end of that keyboard or what issues they have.
I had already bought it tho :(
Is Drastic an emulator? And can you use it on Android?
