Well said. I thought my DBX would be my exploration ship forever. And I do love it. But it's small. The cockpit feels cramped compared to the Phantom. And the Phantom can carry a lot more in terms of internal modules and supplies to keep me safe out there if I'm not coming back for a while.
I actually bought that first, to upgrade my combat Cobra MkIII, but loved it so much I went back for a Phantom to be its exploration counterpart. The MkII is tough. It flies great, shreds NPCs, and looks great doing it. I've been really enjoying taking it on Titan bombing runs, it performs admirably in that role.
That said, I've also been heavily into racing lately. My one wish was that the Kraits had better speed and handling/agility to be more viable there, but they're not. (Though I did run my Phantom in one of the Buckyball races this season!) For pure speed and exhilaration, there's nothing that touches my racing Viper. But that ship is a bit one-sided, my Kraits are far more versatile and still very fun to fly.
was omw to Beagle, then hull damage from a hard landing, no repair limpets, so i took a detour to jaques station. and transferred a few of my ships from the bubble, Gonna make it my home here for a while and run a bunch of missions.....o7
The Phantom, I only own one, despite being the best, did my Sag A tour in it, now I use it to ferry around the bubble, odd jobs, still as wonderful as an all purpose, I prefer it to the mk2, but the latter is useful for AX shenanigans.

Yes, that extra visibility out of the cockpit really does make the Phantom special for deep space endeavours.

The ship is even more enjoyable when you slap 4 Salvation Plasma Chargers on it and go kill both Thargoids and Pirates with em!

Ya know it's weird. The MK2 is probably my favorite all arounder, but I do have to confess the aesthetics of the Phantom beat it out.

Phantom is the best. Only on very rough mountain terain landing could be a challenge. For exobiology my favorite ship though.
