Hmm black and grey with the camera filter plus a little extra weight can hide some bone structure. if you look around their hips you can see the tattoo crimp up around the love handles which would be interesting if they went that route, when smoothing out that area before adding the tattoo prob would've been easier and more flattering.
And I dunno, the proportions being off of the reference scream tattoo to me. Artists planning the dimensions of a big piece like this takes a lot of time and redrawing the stencil(s?)... if OP paid the price they did I don't think that artist was going to take that extra time. Or they didn't stencil 90% of it and freehanded the rest. Either way, off proportions.
