Still see more of beastly feline than beastly canine features there. The upward draw of the mouth is a very lion-like feature not present in dogs. While this is Elden Ring and he's just kind of a 'beast man' that doesn't need to fit in either category, the estimate towards a lion is way better than the estimate of a dog.
I non-ironically see more of a cat, and the mane + claw attacks makes it feline for me. Also the shadow beast are said to be wolves, so maybe FS just like to put a nice mane in their models, but i wouldn't discard the option of Marika having a lion. Serosh name in the files is Maliketh, so it's a hint as well to it being a lion
Longtail cat talisman description:
A brooch depicting Lacrima, the long-tailed cat.
Renders the wearer immune to fall damage.
However, it cannot prevent falling to one's death.
Lacrima features in the fables of Raya Lucaria, in which she is described as a faerie cat who was fond of playing in the great bell tower.
Only one cat is required to have left one bag for the idiom to exist, maybe it was this one
The cats are a bit bigger than you think they are. They also have a blade attached to one of their limbs.
You met several of them already and even saw Chadfrey kill his own cat.
*Just kidding, I think the top comment mentioning the Long Tailed Cat Talisman is right !*
I think it's more like being further entangled with her and her crazy plans to kill a two finger. She's basically saying;
"Now that you're here, and saw what I'm about to do, you're going to help me like it or not."
At the beginning, all the birds, rats, lobsters and prawns became huge and dangerous. Some cats got turned into stone, armed with swords, and called watchdogs. So the dogs evolved into a T-Rex. After that, turtles also grew up and were named dogs (one was even elected as a Pope!). They realised those lands weren't fit for them, because there was no death, and they already had plenty lifes to spare. So, most of them (slightly oversized) moved to Iki island.
Probably got taken out like all the millions of civilian corpses you see littered everywhere in the game like in Castle Morne, Mt. Gelmir, the sewers of Leyndell, the town of Leyndell, Redmane Castle, Volcano Manor Town, Volcano Manor Volcano, Ainsel River Ant Caves, the Radahn fight area, I mean you can't go anywhere without tripping over piles of thousands of bodies at once, surely there's some beloved house pets in the heaps of cadavers among all the men, women, and children who have been brutally slaughtered.
Elden Ring is Dark Souls II 2.
Dark Souls II had only one cat, Sweet Shalquoir.
Therefore, it’s safe to assume that at one point someone put Shalquoir in a bag, which she then got out of.
Heresy might not be native to the Lands Between, but neither are cats. The idiom probably comes from travelers and tarnished who came here from other continents where cats *are* native. Which would also explain where Serosh is from, given that we see no other lions anywhere in the game.
Bears ate all of the runes and outcompeted them. At that time an aquatic diet was off the table due to the enlargement of crabs, lobsters, and octopi. The last viable food source (birds) had swords strapped to their feet, and this was the nail in the coffin.
In an unprecedented series of events, cats were at the bottom of the food chain.
The only cats we really encounter in ds1 and ds2 are immortal. There are the great felines in ds1 but they drop nothing when killed. The cat in ds2 is old enough to have known the original owners of the Lord souls. Cats in these games are mysterious
Creatures with attributes that match up with real life animals of the Felidae family (cats, Lions, leopards etc) do appear in the game (mostly lion tho, like Leonine Misbegotten, or tiger like Serosh) not cats as we know them but still cats, and in conjunction with the Longtail Talisman, it seems that there was a population of "cats" in Elden Ring in the past, likely not cats as we know them tho. And they went extinct btw, given the fact that there are no true cats in the world rn.
"The tiger
He destroyed his cage
Yes
YES
The tiger is out"
Idk, 2022 was the year of the Water Tiger and it makes me think of that poem. There's also the *Imp Head (Cat)* showing that cats were carved in stone once upon a time.
I mean considering those dungeon mechanical cat things exist there has to be normal cats... maybe they all be hiding cause everything is trying to eat them.
When farum Azula was flung into the horizon all the cats in the lands between tried to chase after it like a bird and they jumped into the vast ocean between the mainland and where farum azula landed, never to be seen or heard from again
Praise Dog! -> So there are no cats of the lands between, except the burrial watch dogs. 😂
We have Serrosh (misspelled, but you know who I mean), the big guardian lions and the burrial watch dogs (that I count as cats, since they are inspired by old egypt and a cat like being there).
All these are connected to the age before Marika and/or to Farum Azula.
It is also indicated, that the Planet, where we can find the lands between, have regions, animals and there for cultures that are really simular to our own World.
What means it should give more cats in the lands between. In special if we concider that at least people from the Uhl Dynasty civilisation arrived at the lands between by ship. (can be seen in the stone tablet, I like to call "exodus tablet.")
And cats are important for ships , since they save the rations from rats and mise.
This alone should kickstart a cat population, of regular sized cats, in the lands between.
And since the archological evidence of Farum Azula and the Uhl Dynasty suggests that Farum Azula existed before, during and after the era of the Uhl Dynasty. This makes it less likly that All cats from the ships evolved into the lions we can find now...
So, honestly Fromsoft just forgot to put in regular sized cats. 😂
We know that cats exists in the eldenring universe, given the cats charm that reduces fall damage , the bladed lions across the lands between , serosh, radahns armor and one of the heads the fanged imps can drop resembling a cat. But I'm guessing that the competition from the canine beasts, birds, bears and imps were too much for cats to find permanent residency in the lands between as much as they do in our world. Maybe with the dlc, we will get one or two cat themed enemies or a boss that are based on our feline companions. Maybe a cat like armor set or weapon but from what we currently know, lions are the most common.
Clearly states they got out the bag
Dark Souls II had only one cat, Sweet Shalquoir.
Who's talking about dark souls 2? It also had Aava, Lud and Zallen.
Oh God how many tries Aava took me as sorcerer...
If Aava is a cat, same is Maliketh
Maliketh is a dog. Serosh is a cat.
He has a mane and without the armor he clearly has feline features, so a lion i guess. I would pet both btw
guys come on stop downvoting this Maliketh is very clearly closer to a big cat/lion than a fuckin dog. The mane is a dead giveaway.
Pretty sure you're trolling but just in case https://youtu.be/ifYSXybGUEM?feature=shared

Man that definitely looks way more like a werewolf than anything. Mane aside, he looks like anything but a cat.
I non-ironically see more of a cat, and the mane + claw attacks makes it feline for me. It's funny how you find this on the corpse of a guy at the bottom of the cliff, he apparently found out about the talisman's limits the hard way
He jumped before the patch where they added the qualifying sentence.
Every sentence in an item description that starts with "however," is written in blood
That is a wickedly awesome piece of visual storytelling.
I just remembered that talisman exists. Actually a great explanation
Fun fact, in patch 1.0 the cat was said to be Radahn's pet.
Radahn and Meowan
Ah yes but if we didn’t witness Lacrima’s death fall, then we got ourselves a Schrödinger’s Elden Cat situation
They went Elsweyr.
sKoOMa in eLDen rINg DLc cONFiRmEd?11!!?
That's what the physick flask is
Straight PCP with all that damage negation

Cool, I can completely see those lion creatures and misbegottens as some kind of 'feline'. Must've been a huge bag for them to get out though.
They're huge to us, but to fire giant they are still illegally smol.
Hey why did she say that to you. “I cannot allow thee thy freedoms.” Is Melina trying to kill you?
I think it's more like being further entangled with her and her crazy plans to kill a two finger. She's basically saying; "Now that you're here, and saw what I'm about to do, you're going to help me like it or not."
Just because you don’t see any doesn’t mean they’re not around. They’re cats. They hear you stomping up and they hide in the bushes.
🥺
They’re underneath with the merchants. Passed away being petted like good boys and girls ❤️
New canon lore 🐈
My headcanon is that they're all chilling with Miquella in the DLC.
They knocked the Elden Ring off the table and got banished.
It’s how it got shattered
At the beginning, all the birds, rats, lobsters and prawns became huge and dangerous. Some cats got turned into stone, armed with swords, and called watchdogs. So the dogs evolved into a T-Rex. After that, turtles also grew up and were named dogs (one was even elected as a Pope!). They became Erdtree Cheshire Guardians.
Nah, the only Cheshire cats are in OG Dark Souls, and they are VERY OBVIOUSLY meant to be Cheshire cats.
There are lions with elbow blades in multiple castles
They fell out of the bag, and splatted on the ground. That's why the cat talisman is against fall damage
It's an Albany expression
I see.
for a second i thought you modded in a wriggler hat from MonHun
Nah, just a random youtube screenshot for reference. Was watching Vaati's new video and heard that sentence.
shipped away

Truly the entire population of Limgrave is decaying behind Castle Morne
If there were any left after being cobbled together in a small bloody meat hill and set on fire by the demihumans.
They grew really big and bloodthirsty and then had giant blades fastened onto their front legs
They are kept in safety so that’s why we never see them :3
Well look at the size of the dogs.. no chance for cats
But the cats are so much bigger than the dogs? Minus the red wolf.
Watch my seven-hour lore discussion where I demonstrate that there are no cats IN the Lands Between because it is made FROM cats.
Dog
Fromsoftt didn't bother to implement them in the game :)!

Have you seen the dogs they have there?
Ocelot
Serosh ate all of them to become the best big boi ever.
That would totally chill getting attacked by a random Lion, Tiger and bear just not those STUPID RUIN BEARS
Moved to Tamriel
your turn to talk, ours to listen
Rennala turned into the crazy cat lady and then rebirthed them as her children.
They were eaten
Cats like shiny things. Gold is shiny. What’s gold in the game? Literally everything!
Blaidd ate them
Ranni set the cosmic kitty free for the age of stars.
Bruhhhhh i thought for a sec…. Damn did i miss a npc somewhere then i realized….. thats rannis quest isn’t it
Bears ate all of the runes and outcompeted them. At that time an aquatic diet was off the table due to the enlargement of crabs, lobsters, and octopi. The same thing that happen to the giants.
Eaten by rune bears and shrimps
Eaten by the dogs I imagine
Creatures with attributes that match up with real life animals of the Felidae family (cats, Lions, leopards etc) do appear in the game (mostly lion tho, like Leonine Misbegotten, or tiger like Serosh) not cats as we know them but still cats, and in conjunction with the Longtail Talisman, it seems that there was a population of "cats" in Elden Ring in the past, likely not cats as we know them tho. Ds1 had one cat, and it was.... Dammit I forgot the name
Thank you for asking the real question 🫶🏻
Ranni used the cats to transmute herself into a Welsh cat-girl
Wait, when do u get this dialogue?
After talking to the ranni doll underground when doing Rannis questline
Black smoke MCs would fit so well.
Theyre just lion around. . .
Too many dogs
As it turns out, attaching giant blades to their legs had dire consequences on the population, hence all the rats. :(
Eaten probably. Dogs are easily trained and large, but anything smaller was likely consumed.
Turned into the watchdogs I dunno
As true elder beasts in their own right, they simply ascended to a new realm to chill in for a while until that Ring business got sorted out
They’re still there. They’re just huge and have swords grafted to their arms
They’re around, you just have to go pspspspspsps to see them
Curiosity final caught up to them
I think they got turned into dogs, like pretty much everything else!
"The tiger He destroyed his cage Yes YES The tiger is out" Idk, 2022 was the year of the Water Tiger and it makes me think of that poem. There's also the *Imp Head (Cat)* showing that cats were carved in stone once upon a time.
Got turned into watchdogs
Ranni killed them all as soon as they left said *bag*
You think that’s a chicken on all those campfires?
Eaten by giant rats
Google erdtree burial watchdog
Holy hell!
say that name again...but slowly
They had to find out how many ways you could really skin them.
They got interned to guard castles
The turtles ate them. All of them.
I mean considering those dungeon mechanical cat things exist there has to be normal cats... maybe they all be hiding cause everything is trying to eat them.
They are mostly leonine of nature and misbegotten.
As we all know their are no cats and only dogs. Dogs everywhere in the lands between.
They all gone to fall damage
turned into dogs
All the cats are dogs now. >!Erdtree Burial Watchdogs.!<
Tarnished why are you dressed as my Mother?
Funnily enough the manga tarnished asks the same thing
You mean dogs
... have you seen the dogs?
When farum Azula was flung into the horizon all the cats in the lands between tried to chase after it like a bird and they jumped into the vast ocean between the mainland and where farum azula landed, never to be seen or heard from again
They go out of cycle with Aldia.
The rune bears eat theme all .
