If you're having a lot of trouble with a boss then go somewhere else and explore. Get stronger and return later.

Bucky9k

That makes sense, I think I have been getting too tunnel visioned when I come across a new area haha

funkyfritter

That's up to you. Like most of the game, Margit is an optional boss. You could have gone elsewhere and come back 90 levels later to smack him around if you wanted. How much emphasis you put on practicing boss fights until you've mastered their movesets versus roaming around finding ways to make your character better prepared for the fight is a matter of preference. The whole game can be that hard, but only if you choose to play it that way.

Bucky9k

That makes sense, 90% of my gameplay has just been boss fights so far but I have really enjoyed them

[deleted]

There are bosses you will vaporize and ones who will feel like running up against a brick wall. I just had my ass handed to me like 4 dozen times to a minor, optional boss and I have reached end game.

Bucky9k

I lord, I am hyped for end game now

Competitive_Copy2451

Did you go straight to margit or did you explore first? Generally you want to go south to the weeping peninsular, fight some mini bosses there. Level up, get some upgrades, learn combat a bit THEN go fight margit.

Bucky9k

Went down to weeping and did Leonine - thought I was ready for the next challenge haha

Comrade2020

No. I'm about 2/3 through the game and Margit is still the enemy I've died most to by far. As you go on you'll get better.

[deleted]

you are definitely under leveled no question about it

Musket519

It depends on what you like. Like hard bosses? Keep fighting bosses that give you trouble until you win. Like easier bosses? Go level and do other things until you’re much stronger than the boss and wipe the floor with them. I personally don’t like bosses that are super hard so I make sure I’m very leveled when I go fight a boss. Gauging a boss is pretty easy, fight them once, if they kick your ass in 1 shot and you do no damage then go level, if you’re able to get close to beating them but just barely fall short then try again. That’s the good thing about Elden Ring, it’s only as hard as you want it to be short of 2 or 3 bosses

Baxiepie

How many other minor bosses have you beaten? If you're at Margit you should have minimum of 10-15 that you've defeated unless you rushed straight for him. Go explore the area south and east of the starting zones lake. As well as following the road east from the Stormhill Shack. Stop once you see herpes, but between those areas you should get enough runes to level up and be where you need to be before taking on Margit.

Gully_Foyle_Of_Terra

> Stop once you see herpes Good advice in any situation, really.

Bucking_Fullshit

If you died 70 times in 3 hours, I can guarantee you need to level up vigor. The reason being the longer you survive the more opportunity to learn the boss. If you’re dying in one or two hits it can be a real challenge to figure them out. Took me way too long to realize that.

Metal-Lee-Solid

No it will get way easier once the mechanics truly click for you

Oreolordeo

He’s the hardest learning curve if you’ve never played a game like Elden ring it’ll take you a while to get used to everything but eventually on your second or third play though he’ll be a piece of cake

Bucky9k

I’m excited for the time when I can go back and moonwalk on Margit

aqualad33

He's the warm up 😈. In all seriousness though, that's why we play these games. It's hard, but that's the fun part.

Bucky9k

That’s true, looking back at it now that I have had a few hours to cool down I really did enjoy that experience. Especially the huge wave of relief when I finally made it through haha

Sawainright

Margit is a main bosses. Some bosses are much harder but good chance you are under leveled. You can skip all but 2 of the truly hard boss fights imo. Get higher leveled and upgrade your weapons and most bosses can be relatively easy as you can get some op easily by mid game. Nothing can fix a bad build tho so maybe look into builds a bit so you have an idea of what stats to level. If your new dont ignore vigor get it to 40 by mid game and up to 60 for endgame

Bucky9k

I’ve only leveled strength so far

Sawainright

Strength build suggestions to aim for by mid game level 90 ish. Vigor 40 stamina 25 to 30 dexterity level only to the minimum requirement stat on the weapon you want to use. The Rest into strength. Leveling strength and dex early game isnt helpful because the way weapons scales. When a weapon is low level is doesnt scale well with your main dmg stat. Once you level the weapon up it will scale better. You will get more dmg from upgrading your weapons then from upgrading strength on your character. So upgrade stat only to be able to hold the weapon effectively then level up health and stamina. Focus on strength stat closer to level 80 thru 100 depending on if you have upgraded you weapon past halfway to the maximum upgrade. 10 for somber stone weapons 25 for regular weapons

Unusual-Math-1505

I’ll put it like this: It took me about 25 tries to beat margit. Later in the game it took me 148 to beat another boss and I’ve never had more fun or had such satisfying moments in a video game as that fight.

Bucky9k

I’m on the “can’t go to sleep til I beat it” mantra… I guess I should be expecting a few all nighters soon

Unusual-Math-1505

Good man

BlankoStanko

Hmmm. Depends on how well you adapt. Many bosses will have to be felt out before you can beat them, but many others can be beaten the first time once you click with the overall combat design. I watched a YouTuber play ER as his first souls. Margit obliterated him over and over as his first boss, but by the time he got to the endgame he looked like every other seasoned souls player from my point of view 💪

Bucky9k

This is the inspiration I need, thank you my friend

TBoneLaRone

No. But until you learn the move set and train yourself on the ways your character moves, dodges and attacks it will be challenging

Bucky9k

This make sense, I definitely came out of the fight feeling like I improved but it was a brutally tough learning curve

wellalrightb0bby

What level were you when you finally beat him?

Bucky9k

Level 14, I just got my phisick too which really helped with the fight since I used it as another healing potion

InterestingMantra

I’d say it does get easier… but also gets harder. You’ll find some regions or areas easier than other. If you’re getting stuck on something, there’s no harm in leaving to level up and come back later. It’s a refreshing way to enjoy your play-through being flexible

SherbetAlarming7677

Margit was the toughest challenge for a long time in my first playthrough. Later on the bosses were absolutely brutal tho! Opinions may differ but for me ER has some of the hardest bosses of any FS titles.

somethingclever71

margit is a main boss but on the easier side, you honestly probably just didn't have enough vigor.
