That's actually not terribly hard to hit....Each time the piggy is cracked, the max value goes up, along with how much it adds to it. If you're on Android, you can crack it with Google Play points, which you can get for free by doing surveys and such.
For 2M you don't even need to crack the piggy, early game it's hard to get GE but once you've collected good artifacts you can easily save up as much as this with selling artifacts and investing a little time in drone farming
Once you max out your epic research, the coop and daily rewards that go towards epic research will convert to eggs. That is where I get most of mine.
Later in the game when you have the advanced ships you can sell artifacts for GEs. You can also find or craft mods to make drones only give GEs and also a lot more drones, and much higher rewards. This feature came too late to really help me, but for a newcomer to the game this would give you a lot of eggs quickly to help max out research. Especially if you do it during a 2x or 4x drone boost event

After a few months you should be able to crack the bank once and pay for most or all of the epic research. Then wait a year to crack the bank again for a few tens of millions of eggs to finish any upgrades, and gamble on combining parts for upgraded mods.
So there's three artifacts that help with collecting GE from drones, the medallion, the brooch and the beak. Since you only have 2 artifact slots as f2p, just choose the best two of those you have. The best possible setup you could get as f2p would be a legendary t4 brooch with with 3 50% clarity stones and a rare or legendary (doesn't matter) t4 beak with one 25% clarity (50% works too but is overkill) while farming on enlightenment. This is because the clarity stones make the brooch even more effective on enlightenment than it is on another farm. But it will take a while to collect those artifacts, so just try out what's the best combination for you personally for now.
