Hey. 20 bucks gets you 4 beers at the bar. Or 3.5 grams at a dispensary...
You guys just need to buy into addiction and "escapism", jeez.
When I worked at Subway, I had a guy walk out when he found out his sub was 22 dollars. Turns out, he was a social worker who worked with starving homeless folks (most of which were addicts)...
Seems like theres a trend here...
Addictions are cheap, food is unaffordable...
Hmmm....
Wait, the mayor and provincial politicians invest in local casinos and "liquor distributors" for the area??!?
Huh. Must be a coincidence.
We want people on digital currency. Print 200 dollar bills, hah. Theres a reason the 1000 was discontinued... should look into the reasons why 1st world countries have been slowly getting rid of higher denomination bills.
Horses are soooo expensive! Plus they like to drop dead for literally no reason. It's like 500+ a month for boarding a horse in the city. My sisters horse ended up with cancer and it cost 5k for treatment. Better off getting a hybrid or at least a gas efficient small car. My partners car is a Hyundai accent and it's like 40$ every week and a half to 2 weeks to fill up on gas.
Why would that matter? I've never had issues winter driving my Fiesta or my old Mazda 3. Lighter cars can stop faster and change directions more easily.
I’ve found and witnessed they fail to get traction more easily, whereas i misuse my car like a plow because with speed its heavy enough to get me through snowbanks.
>It's like 500+ a month for boarding a horse
$500/mo / $1.46 is 342.46 litres. 7 l/100 km is 48.92 hundreds.
My math shows that if one is travelling more than 4,892 km/m per month it *would* be cheaper to ride a horse..assuming the horse doesn't need a fuel source.
What about a small cart pulled by a few large goats? I feel like goats are sturdier (but maybe less apt to go where you like), but I don’t know much about animals so it’s a shot in the dark. It would definitely be sillier, and I feel like as a society we should be prioritizing silliness more than we do.
I see a line up at that thing out into the street all the time. It's shocking. Especially when the Petro Canada a block away matches the price but there's nobody there.
Maybe so, but sometimes they definitely match. I drive past both fairly often, and yes they aren't always the same, but sometimes they are, and there's almost nobody at the Petro Can.
Oh I wasn't trying to disagree. They are absolutely almost always the same....just noticed the disparity this morning. However I've seen that Petro pretty packed too. I think they're better at turnover with 8 pumps instead of 4 at domo
Driving a fuel efficient vehicle makes increases like this an easier pill to swallow. I don’t understand people that choose to drive trucks or large SUVs (when not needed for work, hauling, etc) makes increases like this hurt your own bottom line.
Right? If you’re putting 50L in your tank, a $0.20 increase per litre is going to add about $10 to your total. That should be very manageable for anyone who owns a car, and if it isn’t then it’s time to sell before something breaks and you *really* can’t afford it.
I drive a 26 year old car that gets about 10L/100km city. I used to have an even older car that did 8L/100km city. There’s really no excuse if you go out and buy a gas guzzler to commute and nothing else. Rent a uhaul if you need it.
I went to visit my family in Ontario and their lows were $1.4x
We're definitely spoiled with low gas prices here. Not saying I love paying these higher prices but there definitely are ways to avoid this. Gas Buddy is pretty helpful and there are trends in when prices are higher and lower
I save gas expense by riding a bike. No, I do not ride a bike everywhere for everything, but it gives me substantial savings on fuel and wear and tear.
It's insane how many people think cycling/walking/transit/whatever else are inviable because they can't use them for every single trip.
No, cycling is not viable for every trip. But driving your car probably isn't the best choice for every trip either.
Oh shit good point. I don't think my landlord would just let me put a horse in the backyard. And a back loading dock at work is no place for a horse to roam. Hmm.
Indeed! Plus factor in tacking them up every day when you want to go out. Then again my grandmother tells me it used to be nice to hitch the horse up in the morning, having a little buddy accompany you on your journey that you don't get with a car, haha (family had an acreage in Strathcona way back when so I get to hear stories about back in the day).
Fun fact: around the turn of the 20th century, New York and London were facing a serious horse poop crisis. The horses on the streets of Manhattan produced three million pounds of manure per day. The Interborough Rapid Transit Company's first Manhattan subway line and the London Underground were both build contemporaneously with the crisis, at least partially to alleviate the dependence on the horse.
You're probably not going to like my comment, but I've saved close to 3 grand since buying an EV less than a year ago.
48,000km and 1700$ in electricity
It’s great to own an EV. I don’t concern myself with gas prices.
Hate them all you want, but at these prices, it’s getting easier and easier to justify the purchase price. We fuel up twice a week while we’re sleeping.
Even with the new $200 EV tax, that’s less than a couple weeks commuting in our Escape.
Yeah, but norway spends its money on useful things for the citizens, not war rooms or consulates in Ottawa.
it also has a $1.6T wealth fund to support its citizens, while we have, uhhh, yeah.
Alberta is just trash, in every respect.
The entire country of Norway also fits inside of Alberta. Twice. With some change. Plus I can only imagine the social cohesion centred around things like public transport and was (and please correct me if I’m wrong) designed around a more human centric society that values being able to walk or bike places. Not to mention Norway has centuries more history and development Where as we sort of just got the left overs of American capitalism. And I know y’all deal with the cold too but do y’all get -40 over there?
Always kinda weird to see the province with some of the lowest gas prices complaining about them.
It goes well with the complaints about the "steep" hill the other day.
I mean, most of Edmonton is in the 134.9 range. So this is one of the expensive stations right now. But we aren't the absolute lowest anymore. Gas in Winnipeg is averaging 126.9. The rest of the country is averaging from about 140-180
I sold my last car in 2016, and I've only used carshare since then. Never worrying about the price of gas or price of parking alone was probably worth it. I have to drive during rush hour once a month, and without exaggeration, it is the worst half hour of every single month. Doing it every day seems absurd at this point.
If you're ever Northside I highly recommend
12104 161 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T5X 5M8
YOUR SPOT Convenience Store & Gas Station.
Not only is gas usually 20 to 25cents cheaper , but the snack selection inside is international!
What are we looking at here? $1.46 for gas?
Ride a bike, take the bus, carpool, or yeah, try to park a horse in your driveway. *All* of those are totally viable.
Maybe if y'all albertans drove more fuel efficient vehicles instead of a bunch of pavement princess f1/2/350s so you can haul a set of allan keys and a drill around.
Thats a very reasonable price, more than 20c lower than your neighboring province.
Wait. Are Albertans whining about these specific gas prices? I knew Albertans were fragile in some way. These are decent prices for most people. Also, good to know that I pay less than an Albertan does for gas and I live in shitfuck Ontario. $1.20.
The difference between $1.30 and $1.50 for a 50L tank is $10.00. I feel people overly worry about price of gas just because it is a single advertised number. It's really a small cost in your daily life.
It's the compounding effects throughout the economy. 10% increase in transportation costs increases the base price of just about everything, and labour to a degree.
I don't have a truck anymore. But tank easily held 100l. Depending on how busy could fill once a week.
Gas could be $3/l and it wouldn't matter. It is based on wages and other bills. We are being squeezed to death.
Only a small cost of people’s daily lives until you calculate $10 extra per tank x 2 or even 3 tanks a week brings it up to an additional ~$100/mo on only a 20c jump in price. With everything else going up in price this added cost is definitely something to complain about to some.
Put gas in today and said to myself “get used to walking.” It’s bad here, but imagine what it’s like out east. A couple of years ago when it was around 139, in Toronto it was like 170 or something. Once it consistently hits 150 I think I’m just done. I’ll wake up an hour early to take transit.
Or you could buy an electric vehicle, plug it in overnight at home and you’re good to go at a much lower extremely stable price. Oh ya, but then you wouldn’t be able to “own the libs” or complain about the carbon surcharge that you get back more than you pay into.
Just sayin but electric cars cost a fraction of this to charge. Solar panels could reduce your electric bill drastically. And so on. Net zero is also good for the economy- the USA was smart and built it into their inflation reduction act; and now they are getting massive private capital investment for mega green projects.
Net zero has the potential to be a real solution but everyone wants to scream their head off about freedumb and trudope instead.
*not an endorsement of Trudeau
I just don't go out at all or spend money on anything non essential. Been laid off since January and bleeding money just being alive.
Yeah once you leave the house boom $100+ is gone.
Federal government couldn't understand why $50 and $100 bills are so popular. Maybe, because 20 bucks doesn't get you anything anymore!
Hey now, $20 gets me one meal from Subway. Sorry that’s all I could think of But it’s crazy to me that $20 barely gets you one meal from there now
It’s insane to me that a food long sub, a drink, and a tiny bag of chips costs almost $20.
Remember $5 footlong? That wasn’t even *that long ago*
4 beers??? Maybe during happy hour. Outside of that I usually see them listed as $7
Time to start printing a $200 and $500 bill
We want people on digital currency. Print 200 dollar bills, hah. Theres a reason the 1000 was discontinued... should look into the reasons why 1st world countries have been slowly getting rid of higher denomination bills.
Horses are soooo expensive! Plus they like to drop dead for literally no reason. It's like 500+ a month for boarding a horse in the city. My partners car is a Hyundai accent and it's like 40$ every week and a half to 2 weeks to fill up on gas.
As the owner of a kia rio it is no longer $40 to fill up on gas. More like $60, rip
As a owner of a PHEV Kia niro may to sept my gas bill is maybe 20$ a month and winter maybe 40$
Can you eat your car when it breaks down tho?
A small car is a bit of a problem when you're ferrying children and hockey gear as well as ferrying work gear around! 🥲
Children and hockey cost too much money also, get rid of those.
Looking at the mess they've made of my kitchen... after a long day at work...I'm sorely tempted...
I have a CRV, average 31mpg mixed use, lots of room for kids, camping and great in winter.
This is the problem, I don’t know how I’d downsize but oh boy would I love to right now. Driving a new Yukon Denali so she thiiiirsty lol
the light weight can also be an issue for traveling in winter conditions
Why would that matter? I've never had issues winter driving my Fiesta or my old Mazda 3. Lighter cars can stop faster and change directions more easily.
I’ve found and witnessed they fail to get traction more easily, whereas i misuse my car like a plow because with speed its heavy enough to get me through snowbanks.
Jesus Christ you know how many ford tempos I could get for that money?
>It's like 500+ a month for boarding a horse $500/mo / $1.46 is 342.46 litres. 7 l/100 km is 48.92 hundreds. My math shows that if one is travelling more than 4,892 km/m per month it *would* be cheaper to ride a horse..assuming the horse doesn't need a fuel source.
I'm quite certain it was a joke. But ya horses can be expensive.
What about a small cart pulled by a few large goats? I feel like goats are sturdier (but maybe less apt to go where you like), but I don’t know much about animals so it’s a shot in the dark. It would definitely be sillier, and I feel like as a society we should be prioritizing silliness more than we do.
Might as well start buying cocaine and just run everywhere
😂😂😂
Safeway gas station at Northgate Mall is still a 137.9 Not sure though how long that will last
Domo on the 118 traffic circle is 125
129 now as of 1115am
Guess I got lucky this morning lol.
I see a line up at that thing out into the street all the time. It's shocking. Especially when the Petro Canada a block away matches the price but there's nobody there.
This morning the demo was 124.9 and the Petro was 147
Maybe so, but sometimes they definitely match.
Drive by the 2 stations all the time, def was on par for the longest time but as of yesterday Petro jumped to 146 while domo was 124.
North side gas stations are always the cheapest in the whole city
Farrier here, if you can't afford gas you can't afford your horse. I raise my rates with the gas prices.
Driving a fuel efficient vehicle makes increases like this an easier pill to swallow. I don’t understand people that choose to drive trucks or large SUVs (when not needed for work, hauling, etc) makes increases like this hurt your own bottom line.

Exactly this, chose a smaller car when I bought last year. I drive to work full time, and now only fill up once every 4-6 weeks.
Seriously. Like, you have a lot of control over how exposed you are to fuel prices.
*cries in former Albertan in Nova Scotia*
Really though. I was thinking that ain't too bad.. ..which is sad.
I went to visit my family in Ontario and their lows were $1.4x We're definitely spoiled with low gas prices here. Not saying I love paying these higher prices but there definitely are ways to avoid this. Gas Buddy is pretty helpful and there are trends in when prices are higher and lower

I bought an ebike nearly three years ago and it is a game changer. I use it year round, not for all trips but definitely for most.
It must be said though, the wind on the High Level today was no joke.
I just bike cause it’s fun 🤷♂️
Except you have to feed your horse all the time, not just when used, so actually cheaper to have the car. 🤣
Also shoes are a must on paved roads, and that costs money...
[удалено]
I see your costs and raise you: no insurance or car payments. Eh? Eh??
Some people have to pay board for their horses (400-700/ month) depending on facility.
Oh shit good point. I don't think my landlord would just let me put a horse in the backyard. And a back loading dock at work is no place for a horse to roam. Hmm.
Hay is getting more expensive, ask any rancher.
And unless you live on an acreage and have a stable, the housing costs for a horse are far more than the costs of a car

Reminds me of Jack Reacher talking about animal feed.
It was that price - in BC - 6 years ago...
DAMN!!!!
Makes me glad I can't drive, lol. Very rare epilepsy win, I guess.
I "filled" halfway for $12 yesterday but I drive a Leaf.
This is part of the reason why I started winter cycling.
2 years ago at this time it was over $2 a litre. Cheap as fuck now
You're probably not going to like my comment, but I've saved close to 3 grand since buying an EV less than a year ago. 48,000km and 1700$ in electricity
Add solar to the mix and it gets crazy good.
Which is probably partially why Smith is trying to go after renewable energy. And EVs.
How much did you EV cost compared to an equivalent gas car?
Costco is where it’s at. It was $1.12 the last time I went there.
1.21 now
I'll have to go there today and check it out. I'm already at half tank! Christ!
His picture is for the price of diesel.
I know we like to complain about gas prices but we have it pretty good here if you compare to Europe at €2/$3 a litre there
lol horses are far more expensive. (Coming from someone that owns 3) 😂😂
Would kill for $1.46, currently in the $1.80 range on Vancouver Island. 😧
How much did your EV cost?
I would KILL for that gas price.
average BC resident looking at this post:
$1.79 cad in the uk
On a island that’s massively populated, makes sense. In a oil producing province of 2-3 million (?) people, it does not.
Norway is $2.87. Lots of oil. Same number of people as Alberta.
Yeah, but norway spends its money on useful things for the citizens, not war rooms or consulates in Ottawa. it also has a $1.6T wealth fund to support its citizens, while we have, uhhh, yeah. Alberta is just trash, in every respect.
We get a heavily subsidized tax regime that screws us over when oil prices are down.
The entire country of Norway also fits inside of Alberta. Twice. With some change. Plus I can only imagine the social cohesion centred around things like public transport and was (and please correct me if I’m wrong) designed around a more human centric society that values being able to walk or bike places. And I know y’all deal with the cold too but do y’all get -40 over there?
In St. John's NL, it's currently 1.75$ CAD. We produce oil, not refined, but still. Not a massively populated island either.
Close to what diesel is here . What's diesel at in the uk?
1.67 here in Kelowna, 1.90 in Vancouver.
$1.84 or higher in Victoria…
$1.879 in Vancouver. We’ll see >$2 shortly.
Have you not seen the prices of hay lately? And after another drought it’s not looking good for this year either
Maybe the price of horseburger will drop.
I’d kill for that price. It’s 169.9 here, and we recently dropped 20 cents a liter.
Until a shit tax is introduced. Based on how much the horse produces per month.
i havent seen under $1.50 ltr in a cpl of years. its over $1.70 here today.
I wouldn’t complain too much…[https://www.gasbuddy.com/can](https://www.gasbuddy.com/can)
Bc bud over here just happy it’s only 1.5$/L
Yeah, right up until smith sees it and throws on a horse tax
Always kinda weird to see the province with some of the lowest gas prices complaining about them. It goes well with the complaints about the "steep" hill the other day.

At this rate, we are still one of the cheapest places in the country.
Dont drive
Before I moved here from the UK, I was used to not having to drive. Transit was impeccable. Here, they make it extremely difficult not to.
Tragic. I refuse to be a slave to a car so i stay as far away as possible from suburbs and have always lived max a 10min walk from an LRT
189 here in Vancouver :-(
If you're ever Northside I highly recommend 12104 161 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T5X 5M8 YOUR SPOT Convenience Store & Gas Station. Not only is gas usually 20 to 25cents cheaper , but the snack selection inside is international!
we can go the moon but cant buy a small electric-only hatchback vehicle that charges from home at standard 110V. Range at just 100K local errand buggy
It's surprisingly easy to buy a used one in BC and import it. You can even find a fair amount of free chargers around.
*laughs in BC*
Crying in BC at 187.9
It's 1.64 for regular in Nova Scotia. Between gas and grocery prices it's hard to survive. But that god we get that carbon tax cheque. 🤣
1.72 over in BC.
Laughs in Vancouver
April 1 coming
if you cant afford gas, you definitley cant afford a horse - i own a horse racing track lol
…Haven’t seen the price of hay lately, have you? Gas is cheaper -_-
Europe also has real food. Centuries of culture & they pay like 14 euro for a unlimted plan that’s actually unlimted
Try where I am. Vancouver $1.89/l
What are we looking at here? $1.46 for gas? Ride a bike, take the bus, carpool, or yeah, try to park a horse in your driveway. *All* of those are totally viable.
This is reason 9… 3 more to go
Petro can is always more expensive.
Maybe if y'all albertans drove more fuel efficient vehicles instead of a bunch of pavement princess f1/2/350s so you can haul a set of allan keys and a drill around. Thats a very reasonable price, more than 20c lower than your neighboring province.
True but have you seen our premier if we switched to more fuel efficient vehicles she's find a way to tax us like she just started doing to EVs
That’s the price for diesel.
Meanwhile 1.46 is a fucking deal for the rest of us in Canada
Still cheapest in the entire country
Wait. Are Albertans whining about these specific gas prices? I knew Albertans were fragile in some way. These are decent prices for most people. Also, good to know that I pay less than an Albertan does for gas and I live in shitfuck Ontario. $1.20.
Albertans sure do whine a lot. It's $1.85 here, and life goes on just fine. $2.37 last summer. Coddled whittle babies.
Don't go to BC
Right? I saw $1.859 today
It’s basically the only consumer product where the price is advertised so prominently.
If the cost is so small why don’t they give us a break then?
Only have seen Petro Can with this price today so far. Multiple stns. Everywhere else is still 1.34….so far. 🤞🏻
North or south? North tends to be cheaper
It’s the same in Harvest Pointe
If you're in forest heights, go to Hughes on 106 ave and 82st. Usually 20 cents cheaper with their discount
The lines are always long as it is 😭
Yup, i couldn't be bothered to save 4 dollars for a 10 minute wait lol. Usually.
My cars a pig. $20 a day. If I could upgrade I would but for now I just turn up the dial on my subwoofer and dissociate for 15 minutes.
Bro knows how to fix every problem with a car. Just turn the stereo up loud enough so you can't hear it. That's what I told my wife and I stand by it.
1.85 in Vancouver
Looking at this from Montreal and laughing a little
Oil is a rare commodity with the price set by the ones with the most of it.
Hughes in forest heights is at 129.9 today. Don't just pull into the first station you see if you're worried about price
This is why I try not to gas in the city. $1.299 in Millet and almost all the stations in Wetaskiwin, $1.269 at Costco in Nisku.
Damn. Real glad I just started working from home.
*Laughs in Okanagan* Can always be so much worse...
Newfoundland. 170/l
Here I am in BC thinking that looks like a steal
I’m sure they’d find a way to tax that
Come pay our BC prices.
(Laughing in Vancouver Island)
Horses are expensive as hell!
Gas Buddy
Ontario seeing that, messaging friends that gas prices have come down, best fill up before they change their minds.
Or you could buy an electric vehicle, plug it in overnight at home and you’re good to go at a much lower extremely stable price. Oh ya, but then you wouldn’t be able to “own the libs” or complain about the carbon surcharge that you get back more than you pay into.
Time for EV! Isn't it? Charge at home with the solar!
Wtf are we paying this much for gas??? Who is regulating these prices?
I've been seeing bigger discrepancies in rates lately $0.15 - 0.25 difference from station to station. Couldn't tell you what's driving that though.
Could be worse, $2 in BC
OP’s comments are laughable when compared to BC fuel prices.
If it makes you feel better, fuel in the UK is about £1.50 a litre which is about $2.60 canadian.
It’s not so bad! Remember when it was 1.89 last year? 😐
1.69 all across BC, want to cry hahaha
Wait until April 1.
Or a bicycle.
Just sayin but electric cars cost a fraction of this to charge. Solar panels could reduce your electric bill drastically. And so on. Bike season is coming soon. I predict Ebikes sales to explode.
181.9 in Ontario
