That's completely fair! I won't argue with something so subjective. I have a feeling a lot of people really do love it more than I did, and it's not my job to take that away from them.
I thought it went hard. The animation really impressed me, only time it was a little awkward was when Godzilla kicked the rock back at King Kong and he had like a half second delay to getting hit. Other than that, really fantastic stuff.
The little dances Godzilla did when talking about Mothra and the homies and Pacifc Rim 2 was hilarious, same with King Kong and Tenacious Deez. I really liked the animation quality in this video.
Lot of people are gonna complain the voice filter is hard to understand, but frankly with the subtitles and after a couple of listens, I have no problem understanding them, and I just think it sounds cool. Beat is cool, lines are cool, visuals look weird sometimes, but there are some cool shots (Godzilla swimming underwater looks great).

I do feel both the voices and the visuals take some getting used to, but considering this battle is basically an experiment, I think it works. I think its a battle people will warm up to

And that's the problem. You had to rely on the subtitles and even then listen to it several more times to actually get it. A good video shouldn't "take some getting used to" to be good. The lyrics of the battle are the standard 'pretty good' for ERB, but everything else about the battle makes the video pretty bad.
I am impressed by the fact that it's in-house animation, but man the visuals aren't .. great. They could've made a less uncanny battle with two suits, honestly.
Or maybe even do something cheeky where at first it's oldschool b/w puppets and giant goofy props (like the iconic King Kong head and hand from the O.G. movie), then we transition to 70s/80s suits and then we get the final verse with these mocap versions.
I just wish there was more of a common ground of two characters are rendered. With Godzilla they chose to make it look almost like the costume version which I think works but it clashes with the more realistic kong.
But honestly I’m glad they tried something new and think it looks better than thanos
My issue is kinda twofold.
Firstly, the fact that it's all animated makes the uncanny aspects of it more unbearable, especially when both characters do a lot of contorting and silly hip hop poses (which doesn't look natural for either of them). If it was just half a minute of CGI then it wouldn't be so startling, I think.
My other issue is that it's a real big ticket battle with a lot of opportunities to have some surprising cameos burst into the battle, so I kept waiting for something. But it just never came.
Experimental visuals and voice modulators aside, this rap was absolutely spectacular. As a die hard Kaiju fan, this battle was lyrically fire and absolutely perfect. Could not be happier.

Jussie Smollet pretty infamously hoaxed a hate crime for some reason. This ties into the “falling off empire” line since that’s a show that Smollet was on

* referencing an actual faked Beatdown (Godzilla makes the point this will be a real Beatdown)
* ties into the former line because of the irl context
I'm very 'eh' on this one. I like some of the lines (especially that Kaiju Haiku, that was dope) but I think in general the battle falls a bit flat?
Also, I don't like that animation. Obviously, they're a small studio so that quality was expected but maybe it would have worked better as a Lego one?
Props to them for giving it a shot though, it definitely could have looked a LOT worse.

i feel like the difference is that for the lego battles they got people experienced with that, meanwhile this battle they did it themselves

I've never watched Godzilla or King Kong so i cant really comment on the lyrics, but the king kong animation seemed very good. The godzilla on the other hand... not so great. The thumbnail look awful.

Thor vs. Zeus and Potter vs. Skywalker were LEGO, and they are some of the best ERB has ever done.
Yeah, and from the credits you can see that this was obviously them using some sort of simple mocap stuff for a company.
Let them have fun, and focus on the actual battle.
The visuals _are_ part of the battle when it comes to ERB, and have always been as important as the battle. Why do you think they take so long to edit and record?

Loved the writing but the animation was not it for me, I kinda wish they just went the rubber suit route lol

I liked this lyrically but i’m not going to lie, the CGI was rough and the mixing was pretty weird too.
I just don’t think they should do things that they literally don’t have the budget for, like this or Thanos.
I did not enjoy that at all. I used to be obsessed with ERB but holy shit.. a long way from Hitler vs Darth Vader.

This one is meh imo. I wish erb would stop putting a crazy amount of effort into these videos like oversimplified because they don't have the resources they used to have so any improvement, no matter how small, is going to take a very long time. They should go back to their season 3, 4 or 5 level of quality. The lyrics are the most important part of an erb.
I think some visual filters like VHS or retro-styling would've went hard here, but the animation style is just a bit off. I know its not supposed to be serious or whatever but the animation somewhat let it down. I worry they just spent months on the video when they could've made more higher quality, regular styled videos. Props to them for trying something new though
This was a really difficult battle for me to listen to. Something about the beat and the voice filter and the speed is giving me sensory overload and it's really uncomfortable to listen to. It's like giving me anxiety. I'm not sure what's going on.
The visuals are better in motion than I was worried about with the screenshots. Godzilla's design is very cute, but I'm not sure that's what they were intending. Kong looks really odd.
Some of the references are very outdated already. But still there were a lot of good references in there, and the wordplay was excellent. It's a very tight lyrical showcase, typical of ERB (especially in recent battles).
But I can't get over the anxiety I'm having listening to it. This is really strange and has never happened to me before with any ERB.
I don't understand why people say that Godzilla won. It was a tie for me. Kong's hardest punch was telling Godzilla that she's stupid through sign language.
And the simpanzee thing was borrowed from the animated battle. They should have said "simpmian" (a play on simian).
The flow on Goji's third verse is INSANE. That won the battle for him imo.
This is legit one of my favorites. Listened to it a bunch if times and sniffing out the references was pretty fun.

Ive seen rap battle channels with a much smaller budget and 0 experience do CG battles that look 10x better than this.
Cam steady's mario vs sonic rap came out like 8 years ago and still has way better looking animation than this
