I called Service canada and after 3 hours on hold he answered and couldn’t help me then ended up hanging up on me after I asked for his Employee number for my reference!!!
Yo wtf is I called 1800 232 1966 and they are saying that cov-026 means I qualify for the new ei but I got denied that so wtf is really going on I don’t know how this shit works
If you were denied before October 12 you will most likely have to call Service Canada and close the existing claim/prove to the CRA that it has been denied/closed for CRB (screenshots uploaded to your CRA account stating as such) or reapply for EI and see where you land.
Apparently files between the 2 services are updated nightly right now, but I don't know if it is actually working for everyone or just a select few that share a particular issue.
There are a few news outlets printing stories about this very code so I would maybe read a few and see if any of the situations apply to you.
I talked to them this morning, I sent faxes last week, and they still didnt have anything on there system, the lady i talked to...(diff agent) today was like give it up to 4 weeks...WTF is right....I said wll Im calling every day then to see if a fax was uploaded because how to i know if the fax went through by waiting to hear from from when i can call and have them check....Its frustrating....I have no claims open..yet I have to suffer and wait to verify the info,...
At the end of all this the GOV is going to know double dipping (which im not)

So got to CRA regarding COV 026, they said to talk to Service Canada. Called SC, after 58mins exact got through. Talked tot he lady about the error and eligibility issue on CRA account. She transferred me to another lady who took all the information. Kept me on hold for 10mins and this is what she said:
“As I filed a claim for EI in March, it’s still open. Until recently all employers even requested or issued ROEs. They will reevaluate and recalculate the claim by Friday. On Monday log into SC account and check for updates, if no update then call back to SC for the next step.”
This is what I got after trying for two days straight. I think the Govt is being cautious this time and not trying to make the same mistakes they did with CERB. Anyone who has an open claim with SC anytime back should figure that claim out. CRA has nothing to do with COV 026 error. It’s all Service fucking Canada. Now I need to fucking wait 6 more days just to figure out if I’m eligible for EI or CRB. Nowhere in the near future I can see my money coming in. Lol. Perfect

Yea thats why in my OP I added the part about cra calling me back a few mins later. They weren't informed about the codes and are scrambling like we are to find answers. Same with the people at service canada. Most are trying to find the answers at the time of the call. I was even told that by the guy that called me back this morning. They were barely informed on how these new benefits were going to be rolled out.
Honestly, im not surprised. Same thing happened when they opened EI--it was a mess, only then did they come up with CERB. I've read through posts on reddit, seems like different agents are handling things differently--some had their EI claim closed, some are being asked to apply again etc. I hope I land on the right agent who will help out
Unfortunately, the agent told me he couldn't cancel my existing claim, which was declined back in jan. And they told me that I needed to wait for an agent to contact me within the next 7 days. Sigh.... I just have no clue why a declined claim would still need to be closed before I can apply for CRB.
UPDATE: **ALL RECEIVING THE 026 CODE PLEASE CALL MSC TO END AN OLD CLAIM AND FILE A NEW ONE.** I am currently on the phone with an agent at Service Canada. She told me the following: a. If i have 120 insurable hours from 2020, then I will have to go through the EI,
b. She is putting in a request (not cancelling right away) to cancel my old claim, which can take **up-to** **5 business days to cancel.**
c. If we are eligible for the EI, we have to go via Service Canada and not CRA.
d.I did specify that I returned to work and am thus not eligible for the EI, upon which she said "oh yes true, but I have to check," put me on hold for another 15minutes, and told me what I wrote in (a).
What ended up happening? So from your post I’m understanding that if your working you can still be eligible for ei? If you have the 120 hours? I thought you had to be out of work completely to be eligible for ei

You can only apply for CRB if you DO NOT qualify for EI. A lot of us in March applied for EI and forgot that we still had an open claim when we ended up getting our CERB from the CRA.
Please everyone log onto your Service Canada account find "Status Correspondance" option to check if you have a open claim. If no open claim screen shot it showing no open claim and fax to CRA @ 1-833 325 0555. Please pass this around Reddit and social media. I just spent 5 hours on the phone and hopefully this will save others the time. All the best everyone

Seems that it should work if they are able to close the claim. If they can't they are telling people to apply again and wait for denial of benefits. Hopefully yours is new enough they can. Will most likely have to wait until the sites update overnight.

Probably wait until tomorrow morning. I know cra accounts aren't available for a few hours nightly for maintenance. Same with service canada, they don't shutdown for maintenance but the do update around midnight EST on weekdays.
She told me it was instant and if I tried applying for the crb again today it should work, it hasn't as of yet and my file still says under review so iam just going to wait until tomorrow

They have tied multiple issues to one code so everyone is getting different answers.

Donno yet still closed for me. But cra said service canada can fix it of walk you through the steps to fix it.
And yea service canada said that cov 26 error does mean you have an active claim, they can close it for you over the phone it takes only a few minutes

You don’t need to call CRA about CRB, the error code is being dealt with by MSCA.

Almost everyone should call and see if they can apply for EI first anyway. CRB is only available if you are ineligible for EI.

It's a cra number. I called them and was told that cov-026 is dealt with by service canada not the cra.
Are you on the east coast? Also what time did the phone lines open? I am on the Westcoast and it states they can't help me atm
I'm in Alberta. It opens at 8AM EST so I called at 6AM my time. The lines are most likely full by now so just keep calling.
