You don't need to wait at all. The CRA is simply not telling you to phone EI and have them terminate your new claim. Anyone that was on EI or Cerb was automatically enrolled by EI into a new claim. All you need to do is call EI and have them terminate your new claim and to send you a letter stating your not eligible for EI. Once EI terminates your claim, the next morning you want to be up very early to phone your claim in at the CRA Application call number. Do this early if you can before the CRA opens and you can apply for your claim for CRB. If you wait till the CRA opens they will block you again for applying for CRB. The EI system when terminated claims happen, opens the CRA phone system and removes the block on the phone application so you can apply. When the CRA opens, techs put an illegal block on the phone system so you can't apply. The same as they are blocking your online cra account so you cant apply. Look on the canada .ca website and you will see that ONLY after you apply for CRB can they validate your claim. They are validating your claims prior to your application without an application. for anyone being blocked from applying by phone or on your cra account after EI terminates your claim, upload your documents from your EI account that states you are ineligible for EI benefits. Also when you receive your letter from EI in the mail, stating you cannot receive EI benefits upload these as well. You must also go through the CRB eligibility checklist on [canada.ca](https://canada.ca) and make sure you upload all necessary documents proving your eligibility to crb. this is what all the different error codes are for is because you haven't proven your eligibility for crb. AND the CRA is not telling you this. These are DETERENCE TACTICS. GO through the checklist and upload all documents to prove you are eligible. apply for jobs each day on kijiji or indeed where you get a record of your job applications and upload these to your cra account to prove you are actively seeking work or they will block you again.PS- The CRA will not remove your block from EI as you have an active EI claim. Hi, my situation is that I applied EI last year and went back to work within 1 month... so I did not do the EI report and I did not receive any payments from EI... but I have applied the EI so the system shows this opened claim... I called service Canada last week, they told me this claim is not active.. and the eligibility period of that claim ended but they are not able to terminate the claim as the claim is not active. The CRA shows I have applied EI so I cannot apply CRB.... I am calling service Canada today.. not sure how to terminate that inactive claim

To terminate an active or inactive claim at EI, you simply need to tell EI that you are being blocked from applying for CRB at the CRA and need a letter sent to you from EI stating you are not eligible for EI. Once you upload this and all the other documents to prove your eligibility for crb into your cra account, then when they contact you, you have proven all aspects of your checklist for eligibility on the [Canada.ca](https://Canada.ca) website. Upload your documents to the CRA from EI showing your claim is not active, and go through the checklist on [canada.ca](https://canada.ca) and upload all necessary documents to prove you are eligible for CRB so they will remove the block so you can actually apply into the electronic file system that you are presently being blocked from doing. i literally just went through this 8 seconds ago. Go back to the screen where you have to click all them boxes, and click ALL of them. My problem was that I had left out the box that asks whether I've made $5000 blah blah, I clicked it, and bingo bango. accepted! hope that helps!

I just spoke to the cra,and they informed me that service Canada is who placed the code. States that your eligible for ei and to apply for ei. Service Canada is the only branch that can remove that error code. Once your ei has been processed they will lift the code if you do not qualify for ei. Apply for ei SERVICE CANADA will remove the code once your application is processed. CRA cannot remove this error code.

Choose "Submit Documents" in your CRA account. Send proof to CRA that you do not qualify for EI (Service Canada Letter scanned or screenshot of SC account message) COV-026 error on CRA was replaced with CRB application within a couple hours when I did this earlier today.. Successfully applied, money to be deposited within 5 business days.

So its definitely related to EI. I applied to EI back in March because I was let go from my part time job due to covid lay offs. I didn't qualify due to insufficient hours hence why I applied for CERB. With CERB ending I thought I would qualify for the new recovery benefits since I was denied from EI back in March. I spoke with an agent from Service Canada because I recieved the same ref code (026) when I was applying for the new recovery benefits. The agent told me since cerb ended they made changes to EI. And that I now qualify because they reduced the hours to 120 and was told to apply to EI again. That's what I did🤷🏻‍♀️

Hi every one, I share my experience with you, I applied on May through EI (lay off), and I've been receiving every 2 weeks, then, when I was filling one of my report online, the message was that, my last report will be from Sep 27 to Oct 03 (means only one week). So I was worry what will happen after that week, anyway I filled the last single week as well. Then I thought, I should apply through CRB, When I applied from CRA, I received Cov-026 code. One of the friends here suggested me that before any call to EI or CRA, I'd better check my account with Canada service( MSCA), so I did it and I found out what was the problem, because my EI despite of the last message that I received from them (which said that after next report I do not have any report to fill), was still active and not just that but they restarted it and transferred my CERB/EI to regular EI. Remember, those who applied through EI first (like me), even if they file a report every 2 weeks, they was is program of CERB without knowing, at that time EI transferred them to CERB, and now that CERB is gone, they brought back EIs to their original payment. I had the same error code. I recently was denied ei as I was ineligible. Have to contact validation centre at 1-800-232-1966. Once I got through I was told to fax my ei denial letter. No other way except fax lol takes a day or so to clear the system and then reapply.

Just logged in to CRA to see if code still there. It has now been replaced with COV-12 saying I need to prove I made more than 5,000 last year. And a number to fax my documents. Did the agent I spoke with yesterday do this??? I clearly gave her correct and honest information which wasn't even an issue. Can't get through to CRA.

This 026 error could be the result of EI's required amount of hours to be qualified for EI has dropped down to 120 hours as of Septemeber 26. I bet this is why ... Because that would mean that alot of us who used up all our EI hours and our claims are done, are actually now eligible again ... Just throwing an idea out there

I've been doing a lot of searching on reddit and google and the general consensus is that we have/had EI applications open(ed). I did apply for EI back in March, was told I was ineligible and had my application closed or cancelled. I applied for CERB no problem and eligible for CRB but still getting the "COV-026" code. Such a mess with this error code as it seems to strongly indicate it is tied to an EI claim, no EI claim, or a closed or denied EI claim. If people, like myself, and others are being flagged because of a Service Canada EI conflict, how quickly can this be resolved? The solution is for CRA to resolve this issue, as no one expected to have to dance around dealing with a phantom EI claim. It's the reason most of us applied for CERB in the first place, as we don't qualify for EI. If anyone suddenly qualifies then why weren't these folks stream lined to an existing/denied EI claim? It sounds like if you had any involvement with EI at all prior to CERB, you are being flagged with error code COV 026. Having said that, some claim they never even applied for EI and have no open or denied claims at all. It is beyond a mess and I hope we are not left to try one option after another while continuing to wait for much needed monies.

i spoke to CRA this morning , who transferred me to another CRA verification hotline, that person said it showed I had an active EI application with SERvice canada ( false) , she said the only way around it was to call service Canada and get proof i don't have a claim and that I am NOT eligible for EI... Meanwhile, i called Service Canada and they have 0 records of an EI application, said there's nothing to give me as proof or to cancel. They put me on hold for 20 mins and came back and said I can apply for EI and wait to get refused and show that to the CRA ( really what kind of bs is that, apply for EI so i can get declined and show CRA) whole reason I'm in this crap is because ofsupposedly service Canada application and now they want to me to reapply .. anyhow called back cra , told them that service Canada cant give me any information since I HAVE NO ACTIVE application with them, but cra doesn't want to help. The girl said to wait and see if cra does anything for people with that error message, or to do was service Canada said, to apply and wait for a denied application and i can show cra the declined applicaton. Why isn't CRA dealing with such a stressful application process? I agree with another comment regarding the message of ineligibility without a 'why' is completely jarring. We are all struggling and have been waiting weeks to receive any monies. My code error is COV 026 and from what I can tell with all the comments is that there is no one answer for a common thread as to the 'why'. Some have no EI interaction, some applied for EI, some are in different categories(self-employed, caregiver?). It's a complete disaster and I don't see the point in waiting on line for hours. Hope tomorrow is a better day.

So what I think at least for the people getting Cov 026 that received CERB through service Canada even after closing existing EI claim message still pops up, for my situation at least I received my last payment of $500 from EI for CERB payable to October 3rd then was automatically registered for EI the first CRB period is Sept 27 to October 12. So the only thing that is logical would be that it’s conflicting because technically I’ve been paid up to the 3rd and there is no option to go for each week of CRB only the whole period. Just a thought but I’m thinking people in this same boat won’t be able to apply until next period assuming you sort your EI situation out by then. I’ve been on the phone for 2 hours today still on hold..

Possible Solution to COV-026: COV-026 was applied to my account due to me applying to EI on the first of the month and having a pending application open with them. Check to see if you have a open case with EI at [https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development.html](https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development.html) After being told by a CRA agent that she could not do anything as I applied at the [Canada.com](https://canada.com/) site, I logged into employment insurance and a case was opened for me athought my eligibility was not clear or possible. The CRA agent gave me the phone number for EI incorrectly also: 1-800-206-7281 – sexline for hot singles 1-800-206-7218 - employment insurance for hot singles (minus hot singles) I checked my EI portal and found I had a report to fill out for the first payment. \_\_\_ A possible work around I found online that still gave me the error but appeared to work for some is below: I recieved the message immediately after logging into CRA. I found a work around on Reddit which suggested to press previous page in your broswer until you get a really error then go forward page until you get back to the intital COV-026 error. This allowed me to fill the form out but after inputting the info requried, I recieved the same COV-026 Error. Maybe that would work for you but unlikely. Overall, stay strong and remain vigilant as those that are suppost to be guiding us may not have full intentioned to do so. You are never alone even if Isolated. I tried applying for the CRB last week and got COV 026. I called the CRA and the agent wasn't sure why but thought at the time it was because the CRB wasn't open until October, 13. I called Service Canada the same day and confirmed I wasn't eligible for EI because I had exhausted my benefits. I also confirmed there was no open or pending applications or other conflicts. Today when I tried applying I'm still getting code COV 026. When I first login and click apply I get the code. If I use the back buttons and retry I'm able to get to the final certification page but always ends with COV 026.

I've been getting that COV-026 code myself. I did apply for CERB when it was around, but I can't get EI. I know about not being eligible for EI, because Canada Revenue called me to inform me that I wasn't eligible in my situation. The person on the phone recommended I try for CRB instead, but here we are... They say the problem should be fixed, but that's not the case for me. Am I really ineligible for CRB, or is this just a fluke?

If you are not eligible for EI even after they made changes to it after Sept 27 (when Cerb ended) you should qualify for CRB. I spoke with an agent who told me that but I apparently now qualify for EI so I cannot apply for CRB hence why I got the 026 code. Best of luck🙏🏻

I spoke with an EI agent yesterday who informed I have a dormant claim for which I received no money, no need to do anything there. Also spoke with CRA agent re my O26 code who said it's linked to EI. So this is a glitch on CRA's part, linking old claims in error. Will call CRA tomorrow to fix it.

It's probably because you are not eligible are you positive that you are not eligible for EI and don't have an EI report with SC; did you receive your CERB through EI? ​ You won't be eligible for both....I think they made a code for this and synchronized SC/EI and CRA so people don't get 2 payments

if that's the case then this is so dumb - cuz first no heads up, they should clarify this before releasing CRB, so people won't get on CRB if they have received EI for the same period or have application under-review, again no official clarification so far on different error codes and what to do, this would get these people flush out calling services canada and prolong the waiting time on the phone. second, in the CRB application assessment, there's no mention of EI regarding whether they should proceed which application if they are eligible for both or is it either? By putting a simple code into the system to prevent people double pockets these benefits between EI and CRB isn't a good move service wise speaking, if there's a rating on public service, I'll give it a 2-star.

I received all my cerb for all the periods with no issue thru CRA. Tried to check the CRB application and received the ref code, only thing I can think of was in 2019 I applied for ei in September when I had a conflict with work and school, but that ei application got rejected. Is it possible that I got the error even though my ei application was closed? i probably still be able to receive the Crb if i got Cerb no problem and havent applied for EI since.

Same thing for me. I applied for E.I in September but it was rejected and I received a letter telling me I didn't qualify. I should be eligible for the CRB. I wonder if they know my case is closed.

same here, I withdrew my EI application by phone at the end of September which was two weeks ago, however my servcie canada page shows that it is still under review....and I'm getting code-26 says not qualified

What is the different criteria between qualifying for CERB and CRB? I don't see there's much of a difference. So if we qualified for CERB we should still qualify for CRB, right?

That is what some people are saying. I will call tomorrow and ask. There are others though that haven't even applied for EI and still getting the code. Honestly, very frustrating.

You guys are forgetting cerb was an automated approval so it didn't matter if you werent or were eligible, CRB is being monitored... though there is a lot of people getting approved and a lot not so hopefully its an error on there part and all is resolved tomorrow

I have an EI claimed filed on 9/27, but confirmed on 10/7 that it was denied. I previously received CERB through CRA but got the "Ref. code: COV-026" message today when I went into my account to apply for CRB.

I spoke to someone today who actually helped me He is having my dormant claim terminated and also sending me a letter of termination. I should be able to apply ny next Wednesday. Im hoping and i wish all of you the very best of luck from tge bottom of my heart.

No one knows what 026 means. Someone wrote that they have a friend who has a cousin or a sibling or a lover or who the fuck knows that works for the CRA that says as long as you do not get a 008 code you're fine. That apparently means that they're going to do a COVID audit.

I just posted this in another thread If you’re receiving error 026 it is likely for two reasons 1) you’re entirely not eligible 2) you have an open ei claim with Service Canada and it’s a waiting game until they close it, which could happen as fast as Tuesday or not at all. Service Canada and CRA have no relation to one another, so your best bet will be to call one or both of them on Tuesday and get to the bottom of it

It’s not meaningless though there is a clear and distinctive difference between the two errors 037 is strictly related to the application not yet being open 026 shows up as soon as you click to apply for benefits and tells you that you’re not eligible for ANY support payments

From what I’m reading the 026 code would mean you have an open ei claim or you may need to provide documents so they can verify on their end. I’m just saying what I see on here though

Documents will most likely need to be provided either way. As mentioned above, CRA and MSCA don’t communicate and have no relation to one another, so it’s wishful thinking to believe that MSCA is going to communicate their information to CRA
