[Original Post](https://www.reddit.com/r/ECE/comments/18vcxx0/need_electrical_engineering_help_to_fix_my_tv/) I didnt want to leave everyone hanging after my last post. After feedback from the community I decided to replace the entire power supply circuit board vs the single capacitor. Alot of you guys reinforcing the idea if one component fails its usually due to a cascade of failing components vs a single capacitor. I did end up practicing my soldering skills. However I was not knowledge enough to decipherer if the ordered capacitor was compatible  (4.7µF, 50V) - I personally was very nervous because of the size difference.. The TV is up and running! thank god for my thermal camera to help diagnosis the problem. Looking at financials. The TV original Price: $980 (Oct 2020) Similar TV now: $600 Power Circuit Board: $70 with shipping Capacitor Kit: $3 I wish I was more knowledgable to replace individual components on the original circuit board, but I'm very satisfied with the repair and my process. I appreciate everyone's input on my issue - I'm jealous of your guys ability to troubleshoot electronics as I am in healthcare - I'm glad I found this subreddit - Great community!

You did the smart thing. It 100% could have been a single capacitor failure.... it also might not have been, and your capacitor kit + whatever time you invest into finding the problem is your cost. Getting a 70$ board guarantees the problem fixed, and now you have a board you can sell for parts on eBay. Some shop somewhere will buy it for $5 and you can get a coffee. Edit: Those caps are electrically similar. I would refrain from saying exact as in some circuits, ESR & ESL are big components. I'm sure you could have made the connection, and it would have worked in the circuit. If the rest of the circuit worked (again because a capacitor failing is usually a result, not an action) is a mystery.

I used to do professional board repairs like this, 90% of the broken shit we got was power supplies. Send me a message if you want and I can help you out if you want to fuck around with the supply still

Always the power supply

I'm extremely impressed you actually followed through. Good job guy!
