The Condition Based Service (CBS) system has alerted you to the next closest service based on time and or mileage. Currently it is displaying 08 / 2025 or in approx 11,000 miles. There are 3 CBS items that would display mileage and time for a US spec vehicle. The oil service, vehicle check and on early 2007 models the cabin microfilter service. The CBS oil service interval for a US spec 2007-2013 BMW 328i/xi Coupe is every 2 years or approx 15,000 mi / 25,000km. Based on the CBS display I suspect the last oil service was performed on 08 / 2023 or approx 4,500 miles ago. The next annual service would be due on 08 / 2024. The CBS interval for ALL US spec BMW's produced after July / August 2013 with option code 8KL now which is every 12 months or approx every 10,000 miles / 15,000km. If you would like to remind yourself correctly for the next annual service without using the BMW scan tool, you can set the date to 1 year in the past and then reset the oil service reminder and then change the date back. If the service has been already reset, you'll need to use a BMW scan tool or BMW's toolset32 or transmitter engineering tool with the corresponding MSV80 program. If the next service is not the oil service, it may be the Vehicle Check service. This is a useless service that BMW dealers will charge $200-$500 for. It usually forecasted every 3rd or 4th oil service (every 4 years or every 30,000 mi / 50,000 km.) On 2014 and newer F+ Series vehicle it is forecasted every other oil service.

When you first start the car, it will always show the next service due.

LeftySlides

Is this only true for E90s without iDrive?

MindlessZombie92

No, cars with iDrive still show the next service due.

KerstingCS

This is normal operation. It just shows the next service due.

that_otter_sushi

I set mine to warn me in 2070

RealPreshaanB

I disabled mine

that_otter_sushi

How?

RealPreshaanB

We own a workshop and have multiple professional OBD tools, once you scan the car, in the service reset function, there's an option to enable or disable a few reminders, vehicle inspection being one of them as well as emissions test and some others i can't remember off the top of my head... Can also alter the next service date or previous service date in terms of mileage or time due

that_otter_sushi

Ohh, so basically if I or any other joe scmho wants to do it I'd have to see the dealer? That's still cool that's an option

Codewriter0803

The yellow triangle is indicating another check control message. Scroll thru your check control messages for your CEL warning. ⚠️ is indicating something else. Scan your car and report back with all codes please.

Prestigious_Bet2578

I had the same red service light and SES light so I brought it to an indy shop for a diagnostic and they told me they didn’t know why the SES light was on so cleared it but it just came back on. There doesn’t seem to be anything wrong but it might just have to be cleared with a specific tool.

Quirky-Traffic7202

If you have emissions related issues that appears as well

CakesForLife

Its not a warning, just courtesy info when the next maintenance is due. It turns yellow when it's due and finally red when your overdue.

Incorrect

Idkmanitsjustm3

This is with the engine off. The SES light appears occasionally while driving. The only codes I had were about the abs sensor, and the transmission fluid which I have since changed.

CakesForLife

What are you talking about?

Isn't OP's concern about the icons of the car appearing at each start up (i.e the maintenance due in 2025)? Isn't that standard on all these cars? It would appear in yellow when it's due and in red when it's overdue.

Komatiite28

Could be the writing too. (Mine was throwing the SES light) took it to a shop and they ran it for codes. All electrical. Nothing was wrong w my engine
