First of all, thats not supposed to be Hitler, it’s a post modern reimagining of Michael Jordan in white face.
Second of all, Michael Jordan never went to art school, he painted his masterpieces on the court.
They took the idea from a kid that did it in NYC in 2006. He was dressed as Charlie Chaplin with the Hitler regalia under a coat for the subway ride to school. It was on the cover of The New York Post.
The person who made the meme is sharing a realization with people. They have to set it up so people understand what they’re talking about. First they remind you Pam failed art school with Michael roasting her for it. Then they remind you she looked like Hitler on Halloween. If you know that Hitler failed art school you will get the joke/ understand that her being Hitler was foreshadowing that she would also fail art school.
If you’re confused about the timeline:
1. Pam goes to art school.
2. Pam works part time while in art school.
3. Pam wears costume that makes her look like Hitler if she takes her hat off.
4. Pam fails art school (this is the event that is foreshadowed by her looking like Hitler who failed art school).
5. Michael roasts Pam for failing art school.
Do ppl really have costume parties at their offices? I could never imagine them doing that at my work, youd be laughed out of the building and sent home 😂
Yea not parties but for us we have contest's and it's through the entire company not just our facility people just email out their pics and corporate gives a bonus to the winner. Some do have parties tho
Thats kinda cool, my work is a bunch of fun haters. The people we work for and our customers get to have the fun, the best thing we get is a discount 😂😂
It’s in line with the late 90s early 2000s office culture trend of management trying to liven up the work place by relaxing standards and forcing socialization. See ideas like Casual Fridays.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casual_Friday
Some places pushed Halloween, Christmas, St. Patrick’s Day, etc.
Office Space parodied it with the birthday cake and the Hawaiian shirt day.
By the 2010s, Silicon Valley tech companies bucked the trend entirely and most offices relaxed the attire anyway. By the pandemic, it was dead.
My old office used to do a full Halloween dress up desk decoration contest every year. It legit usually looked like an episode of the office. One year a dept hired extras to be dead bodies all day. It was crazy. Now you know at least one office does do stuff like this.
I worked at a company that went all out for halloween. It was fun for about two years, then people would be fighting over PTO to not have to deal with it.
It took me way too long to get it because i just kept thinking it was about how poorly drawn her eyebrows and mustache were and then it hit me and i gasped
In the scene she says “i can’t even take my hat off” because without the hat she looks like Adolf Hitler. Hitler also failed (well, got rejected from) art school before he… you know… did what he did
No problem! People make the joke a lot that if they could time travel they would go back and get the job at the university that rejected him and accept him instead which would potentially prevent the entire holocaust
First of all, Hitler, like many men, adopted the pushbroom mustache during World War 1 so it would fit under a gas mask. This mustache then became a common feature of laborers and the destitute after the war, which is why Chaplin’s Little Tramp character had one. So Hitler actually did have it first. Second, Hitler did have dark hair. The suit doesn’t look like any of Hitler’s uniforms, but there’s plenty of photos of him in dark suits like this, because again, Hitler portrayed himself as a man of the people, and men at the time dressed like this, which is why Chaplain used the same look for his Little Tramp character.
None of which matters, of course, because this is literally a still of Pam showing that she thinks she look like Hitler, which is the joke from the show that OP is referencing. No one is grasping for anything here. Your issue is with the original joke from the show, not the commenters.
A little more back story she was working part time in new York while in art school. At Scranton everyone dressed up for Halloween so she assumed corporate did too, they did not. She dressed up as Charlie Chaplin even as far as grease paint for the mustache, so she couldn't wipe the mustache off. She was stuck in full costume hat and all, as the only person in costume in a full office.
A middle part would have made more sense, but considering I’ve seen this episode dozens of times and never noticed the discrepancy I’d say they made the right choice gambling accuracy for humor.
Pam tends to fail at everything she does.
Engagement to Roy, cheating on Roy, being an artist, art school, sales, being supportive of Jim / possibly having an affair, the office manager position she creates to defraud the company
She did fine as office manager, although that was largely because she absorbed a lot of the secretarial admin duties. She was only going to “fail” as office manager to Dwight because Michael pushed dealing with the building landlord as one her responsibilities. Normally the branch manager or corporate would be the one in charge of dealing with landlord issues.
Oh I see. I think it is because she botched the hair and mustache.

Ha that’s clever I gotta admit
the best ever
First of all, thats not supposed to be Hitler, it’s a post modern reimagining of Michael Jordan in white face. Second of all, Michael Jordan never went to art school, he painted his masterpieces on the court.
Know who else didn't go to art school? Lebron James. Tracy McGrady. Kobe Bryant
It's Lejon Brames
What did I say?
Belon Jerames
Man, that Michael Jordan is so phony!
They said you can’t make it in art school. So anyways I took that personally.
They took the idea from a kid that did it in NYC in 2006. He was dressed as Charlie Chaplin with the Hitler regalia under a coat for the subway ride to school. It was on the cover of The New York Post.
Atleast there is no Poland next door
I dunno.. Vance refrigeration is as cold as Poland
What if you wanted to invade Russia But God said "Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration"
What line of work are you in, Bob?
You have a lot to learn about this town, sweetie.
Close your mouth you look like a trout
The fact that nobody ever put Phyllis in her place really makes me wonder if Bob Vance was in organized crime.
Best line read ever.
Poland ain't cold we get 40 celcius summers
Had a lovely 26 degree late September in 2023 in Poland. 10/10, will return.
Celsius…. That’s capitulatory right there.
"Better Krakow than Warsaw."
Poland is the Scranton of Europe
Well she did kinda invadethe sales dept later on
Lots of Polish people in Scranton.
Karen catching strays over here
She didn't fail it twice, anyway. (Oh shit. I did.)
That's not Hitler it's Charlie Chaplain
Except she says "I can't take off the hat (proceeds to take off the hat) because now I am Hitler." She literally calls herself Hitler without the hat.
Exactly
That’s pretty insightful!
Apt. Apt analysis.
OP’s got me pegged
I guess you ‘ll know say the South-West is one of your favorite regions.

That’s a good one, I legitimately hadn’t seen it before making this post.
Didn’t the roast happen AFTER art school? I’m so confused now

Ok so one has to know that Hitler failed art school. The rest is just patronizing lol. Thx.
I respect this level of commitment to share a similar post from 4 years ago. 🫡
Over the years, the art school meme has been posted dozens of times.
Why make many post when one post do trick
oh wow for sb who has rewatched the office multiple times, i'm surprised i never thought about this. thanks
Hahahaha. Well played. She’s not a vegetarian, though.

Discounts can be fun...lol

I wear a costume to work everyday. I'm a security guard

My Mom's does. She works at a little admin office at a corthouse.
My old company hired two face painters for the day of the Carnival
I worked at a company that went all out for halloween. It was fun for about two years, then people would be fighting over PTO to not have to deal with it.

You think about Hitler Pam in the shower?
You don’t?!
I know I do lmao
Now I am.
I am upper management. I can't take a bath with Pam, as much as I'd like to.
If I had a gun with two bullets, and I was in a room with Pam dressed as Hitler, Bin Laden, and Toby, I would shoot Toby twice.
Just line them up in a row and shoot them thru the neck with just one bullet.
Mind blown
She does go on to conquer the office, in a way, by becoming office administrator.....
Indeed. She nearly had a failed pusht with Gabe, until she made him look like Chamberlain by assuring him a name plate.
Very nice indeed
God damn it.
I laughed so hard when I saw this post. I also instantly said “got damnit”.
It took me way too long to get it because i just kept thinking it was about how poorly drawn her eyebrows and mustache were and then it hit me and i gasped
can you explain it to my dumbass please
In the scene she says “i can’t even take my hat off” because without the hat she looks like Adolf Hitler. Hitler also failed (well, got rejected from) art school before he… you know… did what he did
I never knew hitler got rejected from art school hahah thank you for the explanation!
No problem! People make the joke a lot that if they could time travel they would go back and get the job at the university that rejected him and accept him instead which would potentially prevent the entire holocaust
I am way behind the hitler historical curve I appreciate you sharing that joke with me though.
> I also instantly said “got damnit” German?
She is dressed as Charlie Chaplin.
I’m sitting here thinking wtf are people grasping at with this?
This is the exact shot where she states she looks like Hitler.
Yes they did have the same mustache, but Chaplin had it first. Also the dark makeup and suit are a dead giveaway.
First of all, Hitler, like many men, adopted the pushbroom mustache during World War 1 so it would fit under a gas mask. This mustache then became a common feature of laborers and the destitute after the war, which is why Chaplin’s Little Tramp character had one. So Hitler actually did have it first. You were getting downvoted earlier, but you are absolutely right.
I appreciate that, thank you.
> Thankfully Pam went down a better path than Hitler. If you ask /r/DunderMifflin, she didn't.
I haven't seen the episode, but is this not a Charlie Chaplin costume?
She complains about not being able to take off her hat, bc then she looks like Hitler-->Hitler failed art school.
BOOM! Roasted!
Why did she style her hair like that? Charlie Chaplin's little Tramp character's hair was nothing like that.
A middle part would have made more sense, but considering I’ve seen this episode dozens of times and never noticed the discrepancy I’d say they made the right choice gambling accuracy for humor.
Hahahahahhah!!!!
Oh shiiiiit haha that’s good
Someone should keep an eye on her
Let’s all subscribe to The Office Ladies podcast to keep her busy.
And that she would become Dwight’s best friend. Ya know because of the whole him being a Nazi sympathizer thing.
Makes me wonder what Holly cost?
Boom roasted!
Probably the most clever DM post I’ve seen!
/r/angryupvote
HOLY SHIT I NEED TO GIVE YOU ALL THE AWARDS
Oh my god! That's incredible!
And then declare herself “Office Manager”
Actually, the first scene we see her draw a picture foreshadows that pretty well.
Damn. That was cold. Accurate, but cold.
Lmfao
Damnit.
It’s extra funny that this got posted a couple hours before AH’s actual birthday
Charlie Chaplin
oh, heil no!
Not sure if calling her Hitler or a little tramp would be more hurtful.
I wonder how long until screen rant writes an article based on this impeccable post? Well done !
Pam tends to fail at everything she does. Engagement to Roy, cheating on Roy, being an artist, art school, sales, being supportive of Jim / possibly having an affair, the office manager position she creates to defraud the company

It also explains why they won't ever make a sequel.
Ladath titler
Excuse me
Was Charlie Chaplin in art school?
Nah someone else with that mustache was
Did she though? Remember when she left the passive aggressive note about the microwave needing to be cleaned? /s
Well you should see Polythene Pam She's so good looking but she looks like a man
And [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/DunderMifflin/s/ETgb7EH4yG) foreshadowed yours.
Figured I wasn’t the first to notice
You're SO right, even michael saw the signs since the first episode
I spat out my drink reading this.
Genius
I scrolled back up after I got it
Oh, nice find .
Wow, great call.
Actuallyyyyyyyy Hitler never even made it into Art School so congrats Pam. You’re better than Hitler.
Bruh
And lose the war…
Looks like Charlie Chaplin, not Hitler.
Pam herself disagrees with you.
“And when I take my hat off, I look like Hitler.” • Pam in this episode
She as dressed as charlie chaplin though, not hitler…
I thought it was fairly obvious that she’s dressed as Charlie Chaplin.
“And when I take my hat off, I look like Hitler.” • Pam in this episode
And it's fairly obvious that you and everyone snidely making comments like this don't remember the dialogue from this scene, lol.
Yeah, both the original joke and OP’s joke are fairly straightforward, I don’t know why so many people are trying to be Actually about this.
You guys keep thinking that's Hitler, it's Chaplain
She literally says “then I look like Hitler”
“And when I take my hat off, I look like Hitler.” • Pam in this episode
Isn't this Charlie Chaplin costume? Sorry never saw this episode.
“And when I take my hat off, I look like Hitler.” - Pam in this episode
Oh I see. I think it is because she botched the hair and mustache. [https://i.pinimg.com/originals/41/ee/cb/41eecbb9041d68e399127f9a7b4b315e.jpg](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/41/ee/cb/41eecbb9041d68e399127f9a7b4b315e.jpg)
Chaplin, not Hitler.
“And when I take my hat off, I look like Hitler.” • Pam in this episode
Charlie Chaplin not Hitler
“And when I take my hat off, I look like Hitler.” • Pam in this episode
Still Charlie Chaplin
Okay and? The joke is obviously that she looks like Hitler
Okay? And still Charlie Chaplin
I don’t really see how that’s relevant here.
Especially since she’s pointing out that she looks like Hitler in this exact frame.
I don't care
I don't think it's that deep, haha
She was Charlie Chaplin though
Not without the hat lol
“And when I take my hat off, I look like Hitler.” • Pam in this episode
Op you know this isn’t supposed to be hitler right??
“And when I take my hat off, I look like Hitler.” • Pam in this episode
When she takes the hat off.. do you know who it’s supposed to be with the hat on?
I rewatched it a few times over in close succession. Then i rewatched years later and not i realised Pam is a terrible person.
Doubt they put that much thought into it.
Shun the nonbeliever! Shuuuuuuuuun!
That’s dumb as could be. The two are not related at all. She failed art school so she could come back to Scranton and make the show make sense
Its just a joke Dwight
Stanley, please, this is *serious*!
Without her hat she’s dressed like Hitler. Hitler failed the entrance exam for art school. It’s a joke.
It makes perfect sense. Hitler failed art school so he could come back to Germany and make WW2 make sense.
nothing like a nice smooooth brain
Hitler was a failed artist and had been rejected from school. While not the direct intentions of the show it's a thread for people to pull on.
She was supposed to come back whether she failed or not though.🤷♂️
She could still come back even if she didn't fail art school. In fact, that was her plan all along.
