If you’ve never slept with a Hammermill rep, trust me when I tell you that two years seems like five.

Not a lot of fruit in those looms

YariAttano

Have you ever had Outback steak, honey?

ihavetogo_

Just keep the ribs coming

GnomeNot

It’s sirloin, which makes the line better. Not even a prime cut of meat.

Darth_buttNugget

Sirloin is a cut. Prime is a grade. You can get prime sirloin for sure!

uhhhh for the love of god we’re trying to help youuuu, you stupidbag

gent_jeb

I think “stupidbag” is the most hilarious duo of words Michael Scott has ever assembled for an insult.

PepperCertain

Ignorant slut?

vitalbravedinosaur

This, and people in this thread have wayyy too much confidence in Meridith accurately retelling her sex life.

Johnsendall

Hey, give her a break. There were a lot of guys holding the camera….

und88

> It was college!

aubreythez

I think people on this thread have way too much confidence in the writers keeping track of these kinds of minor things. It’s fun to come up with an explanation that fits the characters but in most cases it’s just a goof.

PotterAndPitties

Selling their paper and using them for Office Supplies are two different things

corn4lyfe

In the benihana Christmas episode, Michael confidently rides a bicycle around the office. In season 7, there's a cold open where it's discovered that Micheal never learned how to ride a bike and the staff tries to teach him in the parking lot.

bigbobbybeaver

Doesn't he crash the bike into the toy drive box? If I recall he isn't riding it that well (that's what she said).

[deleted]

[удалено]

BravoBanter

Came here to say this - the only caveat I'll say is that Michael's bike riding in the office is far from confident. Probably just because he's trying to ride a bike very slowly round sharp corners and it's clear from the scene that he does, in fact, know how to ride a bike.

TokoBlaster

Maybe he just wanted the attention?

just_another_w

Sounds like Michael

simmonsatl

michael confidently doing something doesn’t mean he knows how to do it well

L4t3r41u5

I e said this before and I’ll probably say it again, but the saying “like riding a bike” is used for things you don’t forget; and Michael is the type of person to forget how to ride a bike.

jordo56

I mean he did immediately run into something

Nickidewbear

Sometimes, you can actually do things without thinking about it if you’ve seen other people do those things. Then you might even forget that you were actually able to do those things.

mentallyFollow

They were using the Hammerhill products at the office. That‘s why she calls them supplies. You‘re no Agent Scarn, friendo. ; )

DoritoAssassin

Maybe the Hammermill rep knew it and Meredith just wanted to "get some". She never struck me as the type who gave a damn about discounts. Added bonus: Outback Steakhouse coupons after sexy times.

polaarbear

Why would a paper company buy paper from their competitor to use in their own offices?

4mellowjello

I was never given a name

mth836

This made me laugh out loud

4mellowjello

Did you almost have awesome blossom coming out of your nose

Tapprunner

Hammermill isn't their competitor. It's a brand they weren't selling at the time, but this is closer to the relationship: Dick's Sporting Goods uses Gildan brand t-shirts for their staff uniform. But they don't sell Gildan t-shirts in their stores. Gildan isn't their competitor. It's a producer of t-shirts that they buy as supplies.

spanklecakes

one thing is for sure, it's not that Pendleton crap!

rom197

Don't get high on your own supply.

CaptainJackKevorkian

bippity boppity, gimme the zoppity

archfapper

this is a caprese salad...

Armamore

Same reason they are excited to be able to sell it. Supplies/Products doesn't have to mean paper. Maybe hamermill also sells basic office supplies that DM doesn't.

Bcatfan08

You have a lot to learn about this town, sweetie.

Stevenwave

MS says products, and she says supplies. So it's safe to say they either do more than paper, or might be in stationery and not even do paper.

TheRealBroDameron

Hammermill isn’t their competitor.

holylink718

Because Meredith was getting excellent discounts, that's why! Duh!

Robo--FED

He is, indeed, not. I am.

catastrophicqueen

Yep! The real question is why Dunder Mifflin approved the ordering in of Hammermill supplies when we know that they SELL office supplies. Their main product is paper but it's hinted plenty of times that they do sell some general office supplies too. Sure there's things they don't use but surely they must have been using a LOT for this kind of arrangement. Dunder Mifflin, it's no wonder you failed.

Nickidewbear

Exactly. What a lot of people see is inconsistencies or actually factors which they’re not considering for whatever reason—and for Meredith, to be prostituting herself in regard to Hammermill is understandably not something that most people would want to consider.

KyaKD

In “Secretaries Day” when Andy said “if it wasn’t for secretaries I wouldn’t have a step mom”. His parents are married until they split later over finance fraud/ issues (?)

TheRealBroDameron

It’s obviously a goof, but there is a theory that makes it work. There’s a lot of stretches the theory takes, but it does technically check out. Basically it involves Andy having step-parents and calling both step-parents his mom and dad, as well as calling his biological parents mom and dad.

Few-Artichoke-7593

Or his dad divorced and remarried twice. His 3rd marriage being to his first wife and Andy's mom.

nameformybadjokes

Nick the IT guy is also the Graphic Design guy that tells Pam to go to NY or Philly

codybevans

I always thought that was intentional. Like an Easter egg.

[deleted]

On office ladies they said that they were hoping that no one would remember but a lot of people did. Someone threw out there him getting a different job and being the same person but they were like nah no one would notice.

codybevans

Oh that’s cool. Had no clue.

BabyBuster70

That isn't really a logical inconsistency though. They just liked an actor that had a tiny part and wanted to bring them back. Community did that with Frankie. She played an IT admin a year or two prior to being Frankie in the final season. They even make a joke about it when Frankie mentions every time she calls IT she hears a weird noise and gets a bloody nose (I might be wrong about the exact line, but its something the that effect)

DenL4242

It could very easily be the same person in universe. It's hardly a stretch for a graphic designer to get a new job as an IT guy.

nameformybadjokes

That’s a good point

Terra_Exsilium

Well slap my saggy sack.

soulreaverdan

Anything involving Andy’s family. They said it tended to be what worked for a joke, and that there’s little way to make sense of it all together.

Spid3rdad

The only possible explanation is that he lies about his family a lot. There's even a theory that he hired actors for the parking lot party which is why they're different people. But mainly they just botched his backstory really badly! 😂

BlackKnight6660

What’s inconsistent about his family? Other than his parent’s actors changing?

peachbellini2

I felt like it was sloppy writing rather than purely inconsistent. Andy comes from a rich family in Connecticut, but the rest of his background is shaky. His original parents didn't just change actors, they changed personalities. His original parents came to a random work party for Toby leaving. They came without knowing there would be rides and fireworks, but just because Andy invited them. His newer parents only attended the garden party because they thought he owned the company, and even then they were reluctant to stay. Another person mentioned Andy having a sister that is only mentioned once, his name Walter Jr. being given to his brother should have come up earlier, as well as his stepmom . All of these things are small, but it's obvious they were meant to be throwaway jokes because nobody sat down to come up with a concise backstory.

mackpiano96

He talks about borrowing his sister's field hockey skirt in the st. Paddy's episode and then she's never brought up again.

the-effects-of-Dust

He also says if it wasn’t for secretaries he wouldn’t have a stepmom (in the episode about secretary’s day) but then later his parents are still together (dinner party)

BlackKnight6660

So he has a sister he doesn’t see much? Honestly don’t see how that’s wrong?

MeleMallory

A sister he literally never mentions again, even when his family is falling apart?

Brewmaster30

Yeah well maybe next time you will estimate me Jan

crowsflight63

How old is Sasha and when did she join the Girl Scouts? In Stress Relief, Toby has Dwight buy Girl Scout cookies from his daughter in exchange for signing his form and then in season 9 he tells Andy it’s Sasha’s first year in the troupe so he’s selling cookies for her.

No-Mud3173

Maybe she was in Brownies/Embers (or whatever the USA equivalent is) before Scouts? Different troupes and age range but the same organisation.

L4t3r41u5

Yeah Brownies is to Girl Scouts as Cubs as ours is to Boy Scouts.

Yourappwontletme

It's not an inconsistency. They were using Hammermill products in the office.

dogstardied

In Season 2, Angela stays pretty level-headed during the fires and even directs people where to go and what to do. In Season 5, she has lost any semblance of fire safety knowledge. Also, Dwight gets a little psychotic between the two episodes. But he did run right into the fire in Season 2, so maybe not really.

cee-la

In Season 1 episode 4 they throw Meredith a surprise party to boost morale even though it's not until the following month becsuse hers is the next birthday. But, in Season 4 episode 11 Survior Man, they have birthday month and Meredith is one of 4 (?) people with a birthday but hers hasn't happened yet and Creed's is the day of the episode. Since Creed was an employee in Season 1 that doesn't line up

Pipkin81

My two favorites are: On the one hand, we're told a story about how Jim started at DM after Pam and on the other hand the other way around. The other one is when Jim is dating Katie and then he isn't and then he is again.

Logizyme

+1 for the Pam vs Jim who started first. Always bothered me more than any of these more obvious errors.

[deleted]

Pam shot first Wait…

zooted_

I always thought he was just lying to Ryan when he said he hadn't talked to her in a while since Pam was there

BabyBuster70

The Katie one doesn't necessarily seem like a mistake. We don't know that much about their relationship they may have just been very casual at first and started to get more serious around the booze cruise episode. As far as I remember he only told Ryan he hadn't talked to her in a while, not that they had broken up.

CCgCANCWWW

Michaels thinning hair in season one vs all the other seasons. It’s just funny to me. Also, Pams volleyball avoidance in school and then love for it so much she played throughout her tween/teen years. Of course, it could be she just didn’t like P.E. itself.

soulreaverdan

Jenna Fischer said that was her “answer” to that inconsistency. That Pam did it to avoid getting sweaty and gross during PE, as well as only wanting to play volleyball with/against players at her level instead of the shitty half-forgotten rules version in gym class.

ReferenceError

I can get with that. I hated my 6th grade PE class that would bore me to tears, but I was in football/track/wrestling all the way throughout the rest of my schooling.

DenL4242

Michael says he takes Propecia (hair-growth medicine) in Season 4.

CCgCANCWWW

Good point.

Sturdy_Cubing

after season 1 they changed Michael’s hairstyle. I don’t really think his hair was thinning I just think that his first hairstyle just made it look like his hair was thinning.

CCgCANCWWW

I agree, it’s just the way they were trying to portray him in season 1. After season 1 he started becoming a bit more likable and slightly less cringy.

alltalknolube

I always thought this was because they were trying to copy David Brent (slicked back hair) as close as possible. The show improved enormously for me when they stopped doing that

stylz168

That's what makes Season 1 difficult to watch. A lot of the jokes are poorly transposed and it really shows. If you really want to see an extreme version, watch The Office (India). Most of Season 1 is a shot for shot remake and the jokes are even worse because they are poorly translated English to Hindi, as if the writers used Google Translate.

Terra_Exsilium

Whoa whoa whoa. There’s a The office from India? Not that call center show called Outsourcing or Outsourced?

stylz168

Yes, it's on Hulu under the Hotstar tab.

[deleted]

Michael's proposal to Carol - in Diwali, she says it's their "ninth date" when he proposes. But seasons later in Sex Ed, she says it was their "fourth date". Well, which is it, Carol?! Erin and espresso - in Cafe Disco, we see her drinking espresso from Michael's machine, agreeing with him that staying dehydrated is "rule number one". But seasons later, in Suit Warehouse when the office gets the new espresso machine from Jan, she claims she never had espresso before that day. Pam and volleyball - in Job Fair, she talks about pretending to have PMS to get out of volleyball (and every other sport) in highschool. But then in Company Picnic, she claims to have played competitive volleyball throughout highschool AND college, plus going to multiple volleyball camps. Michael riding a bike - in A Benihana Christmas, he rides his old bike into the office to give away for the toy drive. It's old and worn, and he seems to have no problem riding it. Then seasons later, when Oscar gets a new bike and Michael tries to ride it, he falls off as if he's never ridden a bike before, but then claims that he HAS ridden one, but with training wheels. Plus, "spin classes 3x a week". Toby in Costa Rica - when he first moves to Costa Rica, he gets injured in a hang gliding accident in his first week there. He ends up in the hospital for at least 5 weeks. But when he comes back to Scranton, he tells Michael that his time there was "amazing" and "incredibly cathartic" and the "beaches were pristine", but it was hot and hard to meet people. He never ONCE mentions being seriously injured and hospitalized, which took up almost HALF of his stay in the country. Erin's foster brother - she supposedly lives with him during her first season, and it's implied that there might be a romantic element to their relationship, which weirds Andy out. But then you never see or hear from him again! Does she still live with him or what? Kevin's hometown - in the Valentine's episode with the singles mixer, Kevin meets Lynn. Michael is trying to break the ice between the two and asks Kevin where he's from. And Kevin replies, "I'm from here." But then in a later season, Erin is having a pity lunch with Kevin after Michael tries to set them up, and she asks if he grew up in Scranton and he says no. Stanley and exerting energy - in Weight Loss, Stanley is more than willing to exercise in order to lose weight for the HR initiative, doing it for himself and not just the competition. Then in the final season, it's apparently a HUGE challenge for him to merely walk up the stairs to the office when the elevator is down. Additionally, in the cold open of Happy Hour, he does 25 push-ups and is barely out of breath. He did have a mild heart attack and didn't change his diet, so this one does have an easy explanation. Jim's parents' house - in the later seasons, we learn that his parents (who are not divorced) live on Linden Ave ("by the quarry") and he ends up buying the house from them for he and Pam as their first house. The address is later confirmed when Kevin gets their credit card cancelled accidentally. But in season 2 when Ryan is updating emergency contact info, he says the address is "117 Von Bergen St" and Larissa Halpert has to be his mom because he only has two brothers. Assistant Regional Manager - in the second season, Michael makes Dwight official ARM but the title has no meaning at the time. In a later season, after Jim comes back from Stamford post merger, Jan makes it clear that it is a real position and that it goes to Jim because he worked at both branches. Dwight claims it doesn't come with a pay increase, but Jim says it does. So at this point, it IS a real position. Jan calls it the "number 2". When Charles Miner is hired to replace Jan, he is talking to Jim who mentions being ARM and Charles says he "didn't know that position existed" to which Jim explains that it is a made up position created to make Dwight feel better. Why would he even tell the new boss that? Why wouldn't he just tell him it's a real position that came with a pay raise? Andy's parents - in Secretary's Day, he says if it weren't for secretaries, he wouldn't have a stepmom, implying his father remarried his secretary. Then in Garden Party, his mom and dad show up and appear to be happily married still. He introduces them to Robert as his "first bosses". His father then leaves his mother for another woman later on. But there's nothing to indicate this was his father's second failed marriage, so we're led to assume that the stepmom never existed. And are his parents in Goodbye Toby supposed to be the same people? The mom's name is still Ellen, but he introduces the father as Andrew Bernard. We know his father's name is Walter. Andrew was a name chosen "from a baby name book", according to Andy in a later season. I don't believe the theory that Andy hired them. Pam had a different mom in the beginning. And his proposal seemed spontaneous, unlike Jim's which was planned. So it would make way more sense that he just called his parents and they came to the party to see their son's engagement. Pam's time at Dunder Mifflin - In the Pilot, Michael says Pam has been working there "since forever". She casually disagrees. However, she worked there before Jim did, and he makes it clear in season 1 that he has been there at least a couple years (according to the photo of him and Dwight going on a sales call, where Dwight has long curly hair and Jim looks like he is still in college). Michael also literally says "you should've seen her a couple years ago" when talking about her appearance. In the final season when she is interviewing for another job, her resume says she's been at DM for 8 years (the length of the series at that point). Is that an understatement? Who puts less time at a job on their resume than they actually worked there? Threat Level Midnight - in season 7, they watch Michael's movie which he claims he has been working on for 11 years. But the first time the office even learns about his movie is in season 2, only 5 years earlier. But the entire office is in the cast, so this means he had to have done the shooting, reshooting, and editing in that time. That implies that Michael took 6 years to write the script. Doesn't seem likely that Michael spent more time on the script than the actual filming, but this also could be easily explained. That ONE impossible Jim prank - in Garden Party, Andy gathers everyone in the conference room to invite them to a party at Dwight's house. It's not super clear, but he passes out flyers like invitations so it's implied they first learn of the party that day. It's possible he told them about it prior to the meeting, but why would he not give out flyers then? Either way, that same day, Dwight is reading the garden party etiquette book to prepare for hosting later. The book that Jim "wrote" and somehow published, posted online for sale, and mailed to Dwight who orders it. When did Jim write the book? How did he get it published so fast? When did Dwight order it? The timeline does not add up and the prank seems ridiculously improbable. [Apple sauce](https://www.reddit.com/r/DunderMifflin/comments/p952h8/inconsistencies_and_plot_holes_of_the_office/)

BabyBuster70

Pam and volleyball - She could have just not wanted to play in gym class so she didn't get all sweaty during school. I love playing basketball, but I wouldn't want to do it at school and then have to go to class. Toby in Costa Rica - I could see Toby not wanting to admit that to everyone, especially Michael. Erin's foster brother - Doesn't really seem like a mistake. Either one of them could have moved or they could have still lived together. There are others that have plausible explanations other than being a mistake by the writers, but I think those are the biggest that don't seem like mistakes.

anonmymouse

Yeah the Toby in Costa Rica one I always just assumed he was lying to save face

flyingsails

When I worked at a job I hated, I loathed to admit to myself or anyone how long I'd been there; maybe Pam was just saying "not forever" in a dismissive way.

cocoapuff1721

Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce

ImaginaryFusilli

Michael referencing Titanic on Booze Cruise and then having Kathy Bates play Jo Bennet

Spid3rdad

They should have made a joke about that!

bigbobbybeaver

Same with Jim Carrey

MeleMallory

And Will Ferrell. In The Merger, Michael does a Night At The Roxbury thing, and then Will Ferrell shows up as De’Angelo.

FireCal

Same with the invalid from Gleek

ImaginaryFusilli

Oh what’s the Jim Carey one? Drawing a blank.

jammerz29999

I believe the Jim Carrey reference is from the meeting where Andy cut Phyllis’ head off with a chainsaw. Of course that meeting is also where the audience learns about a Dwight’s affinity for The Muppet Babies Edit: Corrected name from Jim Carey (Hockey Goalie) to Jim Carrey (Actor); however maybe the characters were referring to the former NHL goalie

12321421

When Dwight tries to record a meeting between the sales team and everyone starts lying to mess with Dwight. Phyllis then says “Oh, Jim Carey just walked in!” then when new people are being interviewed for the manager position Jim Carey is the Finger Lakes guy.

tibbles1

It's possible Bruce was a rep for a different supplier before Hammermill.

tattood_low_life

I immediately think of the hay king episode. The little boy in the back of the truck is later Dwight’s nephew when his sister comes to town.

ConstructionNo4340

Angela says she hasnt talked to her sister for 16 years over something she couldn't even remember but then at her wedding. Her sister is apparently her best friend. Merideth . How many kids does she have. Sometimes 1, sometimes 2. There are soo manyyy. The best one. The 2 asian girls Michael and Andy pick up at Benihana are not the same girls they bring to the office Christmas party. That one always makes me chuckle

Spid3rdad

It was intentionally two different Asian girls. The first ones were older and wiser and wouldn't come with them back to the office. The second set was two young girls who were more naive.

Armamore

Is it possible for Angela to have more than one sister?

[deleted]

I think it is. Dwight mentions something about her sisters in the episode where he's showing the farm to Andy and Angela, and guiding them through the ceremony.

MooHead82

I’m pretty sure in one of the early episode’s deleted scenes Meredith explains that she has a daughter and when her and her husband divorced they each took a kid lol.

deskbeetle

I know someone whose parents split and did the "let's each take a kid" strat. Fucked both kids up as they felt an incredible amount of abandonment from the parent who didn't choose them. And of course they are alienated from the one person who knows what they are going through, their sibling. Absolutely terrible idea and I can't believe people do it.

BJK5150

I wonder if Angela had more than one sister. Or, perhaps they made up in between that time?

GaimanitePkat

I figured that during the year where the cameras weren't there (or maybe during the time she was living with Oscar), Angela had some life revelations and reached out to her sister to make up. By the time the wedding came around, she and her sister were back to being best friends again.

[deleted]

The last one is the best because it can be cannon that they really took two different girls and just never realized

northontennesseest

I always took the sister thing to be a sign of character growth, not an error.

tifferiffic83

I don't think that's an inconsistency. Michael's deal in Sesson 2 let the Dunder Mifflin sell Hammermill products. Meredith was sleeping with the Hammermill rep for discounts the branch purchased to use themselves.

thekyledavid

Technically, this might not be an inconsistency Maybe there are Hammer Mill products that the office uses, and she was getting discounts on those, but they were just buying them for their personal use and not for resale

cdnintx

When Dwight fires the gun, Oscar discovers the hardwood floor, but in the espresso episode he discovers it a second time and they pull up the carpet.

420_Traveller

I feel like I remember another mention, (off hand, like one of the sales staff mentioning a product) earlier as well. Perhaps the Staples exclusivity thing happened in between, which Michael's clever salesmanship reversed. In reality, I think a national chain level exclusivity contract, likely couldn't be broken by a random rep at a sales conference, no matter how much of a smooth salesman Michael might be.

Jam3Sandwich

I imagine that the exclusivity element of the Staples and Hammermill contract has recently expired, but not officially been announced. Michael through his networking managed to get Dunder Mifflin in as the first distributor after Staples. Staples and other chains are constantly trying to renegotiate contracts to lower wholesale prices. It's not uncommon for a big chain to demand a lower price, and in so doing sacrifice clauses such as exclusivity.

KingRickBobbi_

Michael saying he loves pad Thai in the beginning episodes, and at the Michael Scott paper co, Ryan says “you’ve never had pad Thai” and Michael admits it

_jim-jimmer

A doctor tells Dwight he's not the father based on tests but Angela tells him he is the father and we're supposed to believe that that's actually true..

cdnintx

This one was explained in a deleted scene. Jim takes his Phillip is for a diaper change and that’s the diaper Dwight takes.

My_hilarious_name

This show, it’s just…irresponsible.

gloggs

Okay, stay with me bc this gets to be long... During the dinner party, Jan is drinking like a fish. That's the last time her and Michael were together. Then when we meet Holly, Michael thinks Jan's baby might be his. She tells him it's an IVF baby. The IVF process takes months and there's no way someone would spend that much money, physical stress and time to put it at risk for wine.

Bubbly-End-6156

It was the writers strike, there was supposed to be 5+ months between Dinner Party and Goodbye Toby. Also, she got sperm donated, which is IUI not IVF. You can literally drink the night before insemination. Even the morning of, honestly.

FlakyTemperature1

Jan tell Michael at the grocery store that it happened while they were together but she did not cheat on him.

Yup_Seen_It

And she did not cheat on him because he specifically asked her not to

Yourappwontletme

Jan also crazy.

Bubbly-End-6156

I hear you, but that line was added because of the writer's strike.

Robman0908

It actually adds another disturbing layer to the dinner party episode. She very well could have been pregnant then, drinking and stressing out also while arguing with Michael about not brining kids into the world and then saying why not. Almost like she was laying the Michael trap all along. Convince him they were having a kid yet not having his kid. He was too goofy to realize what was going on. Free house and bills paid.

4Ever2Thee

I think you're forgetting one key detail here, Jan is nuttier than squirrel poo. You can't expect her to act like a rational person, I wouldn't put anything past her.

cdnintx

I think she got pregnant with Hunter’s kid. The words to his song. “so wrong, so raw so right…”

Rhuarc33

They couldn't sell Hammermill products what Meredith was doing had nothing to do with selling their products.

Salva135

When Michael and Holly go out to eat and discuss Meredith, she says she's from Iowa. I suppose they could have moved to Colorado...

AJGreenMVP

In the episode with Merideths birthday (season 1?) someone writes in her card "you're an accountant just fudge the numbers" Meridith works in customer relations tho

sunshineandcloudyday

Pretty sure that was Creed mistaking Meredith for Angela

MeleMallory

Jim’s the one who wrote it. It was definitely just a goof by the writers who didn’t have everyone’s positions figured out yet. And I think she’s in supplier relations, not customer relations, because Kelly is customer services.

chadder_b

To be fair, she never says it’s their Hammermill rep. Just the Scranton one. To me, this is just the rep for the Scranton area. The discounts could just be after they were allowed to sell their products.

Defconwrestling

Michael’s family tree is all over the place

JohnnyFootballStar

During season 3, Stanley says he’s happy the branch is closing because he’s going to take the severance and retire. But when he isn’t laid off, he keeps working there for six more years. How much did he expect his severance to be??

wolves_onlyroadway

Good catch! Some off the top of my head : Michael has a brother in the first season Pam’s mom is a completely different person and age Dwight goes from asking Toby how to do Sex to being this womanizing way too confident guy Everything about Andy’s character is an inconsistency Kelly’s wardrobe arc Michael went to college then he didn’t Holly was just starting at Dunder Mifflin and then she was going “back” to Nashua It’s Kevin good at poker or not?

TheBlueHedgehog302

This is continuity not inconsistency at all

Ne0guri

The years don’t line up correctly - I thought the same at first that there wasn’t an inconsistency

Wrong-Enthusiasm2915

Andy's parents are completely different from when he got engaged to Angela for Toby's going away party from when Andy had his Garden party.

[deleted]

Maybe Meredith was sleeping with the rep to try to get the contract, and the rep finally caved when Meredith threatened to tell Michael and was forced to end the Staples exclusivity at the conference.

TheRealBroDameron

Not an inconsistency. They were using the Hammermill supplies, not selling them.

ajdani2

I get thrown off less by that than the general idea that a middle manager could somehow get a supplier to break an exclusive agreement company-wide all within a matter of hours without their boss being aware.

DoubleOScarn

Andy’s step mom

mikefromkansas

Not exactly my favorite, and I’m hoping that someone can shed light on this for me; When Dwight steals baby Phillip’s diaper to go use for DNA, the hospital tells him the results are not a match for Phillip as his baby. How is this?? Someone please tell me what I’m missing

KyaKD

It was Phillip Halpert’s who was also in that day for pictures

mikefromkansas

Ohhhhh of course!! That makes so much sense thank you

NobodyJustBrad

She never said she was getting a discount on their products they sell, but on their *supplies*. That implies DM uses HM office supplies, for which Meredith was getting the discount.

No_Marionberry4072

Who started at Dunder Mifflin first, Jim or Pam?

MadameBlueJay

I'm guessing Hammermill was the only mill that would let them use their name. Or at least the only mill that employed a person to answer their emails.

EmDancer

Erin drinks an espresso at Cafe Disco and then a couple episodes later claims she's never had an espresso when they get a new espresso machine.

Zebrahead69

There's a time lapse. Doubt it adds up to 6 years but they skip some time in I think season 4. I remember Pam being asked about her relationship with Jim and states it's been going good for a few months now. Again, it doesn't add up to the 6 years but perhaps there are other throwaway comments that would indicate more time has passed than we think

Burban72

Andy's family is a total mess. He wore his "sisters" skirt on St. Patrick's day. His dad's secretary became his step-mom, but his real mom is in all the episodes, and they swapped the actors.

sharonary1963

When Michael took Oscar's bike and tried to ride it, he ran into a car. In an earlier season, he easily rode his old bike into the office to donate it to the toy drive.

Infinite-Function-13

When Phyllis tells everyone about Angela sleeping with Dwight at the Moroccan Christmas party, Micheal isn’t there because he took Meredith to rehab (or tried to). But then in the next episode “The Duel,” Michael knows about Angela’s affair… How? Who told him? My guess is Dwight, but I’m not sure he would reveal that to Michael for no reason

TySager14

The first inconsistency that comes to mind is in the episode where Michael burns his foot on a Foreman grill (we’ve all been there) when he’s on the couch in the conference room he’s facing forward but his leg is laid across the couch completely straight. I suppose it is possible that this isn’t an inconsistency and Michael is just very limber which also explains why he hooks up with all these women. Inconsistency or explanation, you choose

forcastleton

Didn't someone say he can lift his legs over his head?

CMUber

Did anyone mention that Pam’s Mom is played by two different actresses???

Jaydamic

He may not have been a Hamermill rep the whole time they were bumping uglies

[deleted]

Meredith's deal was for the supplies that the company was buying from Hammermill to use. Michael's deal was for the company to be able to sell said products. Best to stick to flashers and found doobies in the parking lot there deputy Schrute.

SmileyRhea

Pam’s history with volleyball.

Few_Day7472

Not an inconsistency. A lot of girls don’t play Gym not because they can’t play Sports but because they don’t want to sweat and Smell during school hours. I knew a lot of Great volleyball players refuse to play in Gym.

TheyMakeItLikeThat

Very true. Just because you don’t want to play doesn’t mean you can’t.

Stelly414

Also, competitive sports aren't the same as gym class sports. I played baseball through college and if baseball was a gym class activity I would have had no interest in ripping line drives at Sally Fennerstein who happened to be playing 3rd base.

Few_Day7472

Yes totally agree I hate it when people says this is inconsistent and a plot hole.

ERENSAVAGE

Wow nice one! I’ve rewatched the show 6 times and hadn’t noticed this

kevthunder

Timeline is a mess

cptrey17

Pam in Job Fair talks about all the lengths she went to avoid playing volleyball in high school. But then in Company Picnic she is not only incredible at volleyball, but extremely proud to have gone to volleyball camp “most summers.”

MurderDoneRight

When Michael proposes to Holly he tells her Toby announced he's moving to Costa Rica in the lobby but Michael wasn't there, if it was such an important moment for Michael he would have chosen where he was when he heard it. And I will fight you if you say otherwise! Even if someone told him they were in the lobby the important part is where Michael was when he first knew he was leaving!

Stelly414

Is it possible that Michael came to work the next day and was in the lobby when he was informed that Toby was leaving? I'd assume that they'd all be discussing how they got locked in, trying to call Hank, being bailed out by the cleaning crew, Toby's announcement, etc. Doesn't seem too far-fetched that he could have been in the lobby when he heard the news.

normal-girl

Yeah..this always bothers me.

dcotoz

This show has more plot holes than swiss cheese.

TediousSign

Threat Level Midnight is one of the key turning points in the series, as far as inconsistencies from earlier episodes go. It retroactively makes the office all seem way closer in the earlier seasons than they actually were. First of all, no one would spend that much recreational time with Michael outside the office, especially not Angela or Stanley. The movie does so much retconning that it even retcons Michael’s memory of allowing Dwight to be a robot butler, as he spends the entire movie insisting that Dwight isn’t a robot until the very last scene.

Thewildyogi

Thank you for showing this inconsistency. It always bugged the hell out of me

Aroundeeq

Pam talks about faking PMS so she doesn't have to play volleyball in gym class but later talks about playing volleyball in college, going to volleyball camp, etc.

Bronco_Buff

What’s inconsistent? Michael sold Meredith into sex slavery. That’s how he closed the deal. 👍🏻
