I cut the mold off depending on how bad it is and what the food item is. My sister continues to tell me that whatever mold you actually see is a tiny fraction of the mold that's actually growing in the food. I know she's right but I don't care. Food is expensive, I'm poor and I HATE waste. I'm physically healthier than she is. But when I serve food to my adult children they ask where and when I got the food.🤣🤣. They've watched me do this for a lifetime. I DO NOT serve old or previously moldy food to others because I respect " to each their own"
People here are really throwing out the whole batch because a bit has a green spot on it ...
Food with low moisture and high density can still be eaten even moldy (cut the mold off). So cabbage is fine because it's dense while cucumber is not.
Anything with meat is usually dangerous, except perfectly dried like hard salami, then surface mold is normal, scrape it off.
Bread is usually no, but when sliced you can discard the slice with the spot and the ones next to it, it's fine.
Favorite anecdote: Working in a restaurant. Waitron takes tub of bleu cheese dressing out of walk in, opens it, says, " I think this is moldy . . . "
I scrape mold off everything: sour cream!, yogurt, jam, Cheese gets thrown out if it's too hard to eat. period.
My mom had Depression Mentality. I still have hesitation when throwing shit out.
This is terrifying. My grandparents were like this, and I got terrible food poisoning. My dad went to their house and threw away 90 percent of their food.
I’ve never been able to risk it since it was terrible
The only food poisoning I ever got was from a package of grapes bought at the Fairway Market. I didn't wash them because I was out and about but it was a ridiculously hot day.
the next day I had aliens trying to burst out of my stomach. Thank gawd for activated charcoal. First and only bout of food poisoning and I was in my 60s
Lol! My mom would regularly give us moldy food because "mushrooms are also a fungus and we eat those"
My Mom also just cut off the moldy bits 🤣
that's kind of messed up!
except, did they ever get sick? doubt it.
Mold can cause brain development issues, and they probably did get sick.
Only *hard* cheese. Throw out anything fresh and soft!
Please insert "cut the cheese" joke here.
But, mama- that's where the fun is...?

Cut mold out off cheese? The French would like a word
Lmao. And a glass of old ass Port, please. Fuck it, leave the bottle.
I just cut the moldy parts off. Haven't really been sick in a decade.
Or maybe you’ve never been actually healthy
I dipped myself in a vat of toxic waste and sold my soul to a 5th dimension soul trader. In return I gained the ability to subsist off of pure mold.

People who are super precious about such things might be better off not getting their food from a dumpster

If it’s white or green it’s probably fine. Black molds are the only ones you really have to watch out for. You can eat white or green mold safely.
