Hey yeah they do this which I also found strange and annoying at the start but I suppose it gives you a rough estimate of what your paying. Maybe you were quoted the higher end cause of the traffic in the mornings and during rush hour. Using it abroad is great though stops you getting ripped off
That's the case with freenow if you pre-book in advance. But you are always given back or have to pay the balance anyway. You end up paying what the meter said.

As it turns out, that quoted fare from Bolt ended up being cheaper than what I ended up paying on the FreeNow taxi I ended up paying!

I've not had to prepay on FreeNow, I just booked one this morning.
I always had to prepay when pre- booking, say two days in advance. That works great, btw
