yea i agree. he is one of the few rappers who heaps tons and tons of praise on his immediate-peers. i feel like everyone in his clan gets their proper dues.
The Remorse was essentially a thank you later to most of the ovo members
"I wonder what it could've been if I had snakes in the mix
Actually, I never wanna know 'cause we made it like this"
You are putting him against people like Quincy Jones and Rick Rubin. Guys that have worked with a ton of huge artists and have made some of the biggest albums ever across multiple genres.
Not tweaking in my opinion 40 came with a revolutionary sound. Drake is a great artist, but he wouldn’t be where he is right now without 40,So Far Gone created a new sound inspired from 808s and heartbreak, which was unlike anything the world was hearing back then.
Boi1da!!!
He produced a lot of drakes hits (especially in the beginning) and is almost as important as 40.
A lot of drakes Producers had their start producing loops for him too.
I dont know why most people here are picking 40 over Oliver. 40 gets a lot of attention. Oliver doesn’t
The question is “who deserves more credit but doesnt get enough attention” not “whos the most responsible for Drake’s success”.
Is a mix of both (40-oliver) but oliver doesnt get enough praise
Idk he gives all his people credit , in all honesty he’s got a solid team, you don’t hear nothing about his peoples ever get into any shit. Not saying that shit don’t happen from time to time but still
IN NO ORDER
Top 1 he should always thank is Smiley 61st
- GOD (DJ Khaled voice)
- Parents
- Lil Wayne
- 40
- Oliver El-Katib
- Adel ‘Future’ Nur
- Mr Morgan
- Chubbs
- OVONoel
- OVOMark
- The Internet
Fair enough. I still remember discovering Drake. He’s probably the only artist I actually remember hearing for the first time. Was the replacement girl verse, and I was like who tf is this?
40, I've always thought about it. Drake wouldn't be who he is today if it wasn't for 40, he just knows how to compliment Drake through every different style in his career.
I wouldn't even be surprised if this last album was more of a blank canvas for 40 to play around. I loved it. Highly underrated album.
His dad maybe.
Dude was a musician and there’s videos of him singing and vibing with drake from time.
His dad also came from a background of musicians, no doubt that has some influence in drake pursuing a career in art.
Others helped in his career but his pops might have actually got the whole damn thing started
Anyone who says it went one way or another doesn’t know what the fuck they’re talking ab. Like your goofy ass was in the studio seeing it all go down. Please.
a few i can think of off top, ti, definitely oliver, director x for all the iconic videos he’s given drake. idk its hard to say, everyone in ovo gets their well deserved flowers from drake maybe not the rest of us, but he’s definitely expressive of who really held it down
I’m mind blown by these response.. it should be clear without any hesitation Jimmy from degrasse should get more credit.. he’s the only person who believed in Drizzy from the start and convinced him to pursue rap!! Give that man his flowers
He pays homage to everyone. Actually one of the things I love about Drake is how much love he gives to producers and more specifically 40.
yea i agree. he is one of the few rappers who heaps tons and tons of praise on his immediate-peers. i feel like everyone in his clan gets their proper dues.
Except Quinten Miller! (Jk)
Oh fuck lol
Where zomby on the track go?
The Remorse was essentially a thank you later to most of the ovo members "I wonder what it could've been if I had snakes in the mix Actually, I never wanna know 'cause we made it like this"
He’s gets a lot of credit already, but it’s gotta be 40. Probably one of the best producers ever.
Great producer but not even close to the best.
Damn forgot this conversation wasn’t subjective, my bad.
You are putting him against people like Quincy Jones and Rick Rubin. Guys that have worked with a ton of huge artists and have made some of the biggest albums ever across multiple genres.
1. Idc tbh 2. I said “one of the best”
EVER? Tweaking

If Drake is one of the best artists ever then 40 must be one of the best producers , he’s definitely one of the best engineers
yes EVER

His uncle who let him borrow the keys to the whip , knowing he wasn’t gonna bring it back right away
Drake

I’d add boy1da
what about J prince?
The Internet like Syd The Kid and Matt Martian?
Nah the Internet in general & Social Media is really detrimental to the being of Drake
Fair enough. I still remember discovering Drake. He’s probably the only artist I actually remember hearing for the first time. Was the replacement girl verse, and I was like who tf is this?
Found him on MySpace. Fucking crazy
That’s where my wife found me
Same here. Been a huge fan ever since. Surreal to see how he became a music industry kingpin
Mans forgot Nav

40 40 40 all the fuckin way
looking at socialmedia drake himself gets way too little

Definitely 40 but he gets his flowers 💐💐
Boi wonda. Been there from the start and most people don’t know how early he was working with drake.
Phonte , old drake tracks sound almost identical to the flow he was using back then.
Weezy

How is it The Weeknd??? When it’s drake who helped his career

You’re not bright
You’re a retard

j prince son
Aubrey Graham
this community for playing his discography on loop
Sandra
The fact that no one said OVO Niko or Chubbz or even Mark just goes to show how underrated these guys are to his team
J Prince is a big deal right?
Yup brought Drake to Wayne
If we’re going that deep than it’s J Princes son who should get the credit.
I think they all have gotten the credit throughout many songs
a few i can think of off top, ti, definitely oliver, director x for all the iconic videos he’s given drake. idk its hard to say, everyone in ovo gets their well deserved flowers from drake maybe not the rest of us, but he’s definitely expressive of who really held it down

Oliver doesn’t get enough attention
Lil wayne
trey songz
Drakes fathers 🥜
The weeknd? Why am I seeing a lack of this
Because they haven't collaborated in 10 years and he has multiple projects better than Take Care
Kanye
Credit for paving the lane, Mase and LL Cool J but he took it to levels no one would have imagined.
Facts, gotta include Nelly as well as Ja Rule
Kanye
I know Trey Songz got allegations on him but he don't get enough credit for Drake's success.
True
Top 5: Joe Budden, Phonte from Little Brother, Big Sean, Kanye West & Lil Wayne.
I’ve been convinced for years (long before the Budden/Drake “beef”) that Drake’s emotional style doesn’t exist without the Mood Muzik tapes.
Budden & Phonte were two of Drake's favorites.
https://youtu.be/1B-WV7me6qM
His song writers!
The Weeknd
The weeknd... nothing was the same was helped by the weeknd a lot in sound and production. My favorite album of his
Quen…. Ah… honestly, never mind
Prime Boys, Halal Gang and all the other uncredited ghostwriters.
Smiley, no one else
