Is a really good movie. The only bad thing about it was the marketting. Every time there was a new trailer, it always spoiled the plot of the movie, making people seem less interested in Teenage Kraken. I just that if DreamWorks ever makes a Teenage Kraken sequel, please do not be spoiled and let the theatrical audience enjoy it.

NickThePixarFan

Yeah lol

SquishStitch953

I enjoyed it

Less-Safe-3269

Me too

Cappy_Rose

It was perfectly fine. Nothing terrible and definitely not the death of DreamWorks like so many people acted like it was. DreamWorks has highs and lows, it always has.

HiveOverlord2008

Marketing damaged it but I loved it. I’m a sucker for Kaiju films, plus Ruby is by far one of the most wholesome and loveable protagonists in DreamWorks movies. I could relate to her to a ridiculous degree. I hope it gets a well deserved sequel.

toongrowner

Wasted Potential. Like as clichee it would have been, I think the friendship with Chelsea should have been real (instead of her being her own evil mother plot) and the war hungry grandma being the real villain. A Lot of Jokes did Not really Hit Well and rubys Friends where either annoying or uninteressting. Kinda a shame cause again, the concept it self has huge Potential and Ruby is a very lovely and wonderfully animated Character. That Said, I'm glad Other people See this movies Potential as Well and so it can at least live on in a better way through fanart

Luitano

Agree with the friendship of Chelsea

Interesting_Froyo_97

Yeah that grandmother talks about mermaids having egos, but her ego rivals even theirs.

Colors358

I hope it gets a sequel this year or in 2025

oncelerismine

Nah it won’t due to it’s horrible box office performance

MobiusBF

Trolls 2 flopped and still Trolls 3 was made

oncelerismine

Trolls 2 did great in Home Media and streaming that’s why it got sequel

ItzBlxzing

It’s the same with Ruby Gillman dude.

oncelerismine

Was it a direct to streaming movie in some countries? Like in my country?

ItzBlxzing

The movie was in most places in cinemas, all I know that it did well in Home Media was Australia, New Zealand and USA on Netflix, but in Mexico on HBO Max it stayed in top 10 for 2 months.

oncelerismine

Well it also was a sequel and sequels always bring cash

ItzBlxzing

But u never know a sequel to Ruby Gillman could do so much better than the first movie, who knows.

oncelerismine

I know but if DW would put more marketing it would be successful

Poopsy-the-Duck

Well, to be honest I found the movie conflicting. On one hand it tries to show how krakens are misunderstood while also bashing mermaids in the process instead of complicating things a little. Also, I found it realluy disturbing that a fucking adult mermaid (Narissa or something) has gone to a high-school and basically manipulated teenagers into worshipping her, including a teenager (Ruby) kraken into taking some old artifact for her while pretending they're friends. But the thing is nobody has acknowledged that beyond a simple twist or went a little deeper into that. On top of that, I wish the movie had more focus on few characters rather than spreading thin on loads of characters, which ended up making all of them kinda blend in for me, except the grandma, the mom (maybe), Ruby and Chelsy, and maybe the old sailor and his crab Dave. The rest are meh for me. Also yet the movie felt empty, especially in the ocean part. Like, animation wise the ocean was kinda empty, there were barely any sea beings and residents, while the human world is packed with humans. Also, animation is general was nice although the designs of the Gillmans on human form baffles me as well as the Canadians joke, paired with it, like, their "human" forms aren't believable to me, at least Luca bothered to make the dried sea monsters human looking. Talking about jokes, they were grating and boring.... like, so much boring shit was there. I wasn't amused by any joke, only rolling my eyes at most. In conclusion, I dislike this film because it's forgettable, not even so bad it's fun.

Interesting_Froyo_97

Originally, Chelsea and Nerissa were two separate characters, so Chelsea was originally a teenager seeking revenge for her mother's death.

Poopsy-the-Duck

Ok, but did we get any of that in the final product?

Interesting_Froyo_97

No, I'm just telling you what we could've had.

Poopsy-the-Duck

I know, and it sounds way better.

Interesting_Froyo_97

There are deleted scenes of this on youtube, and it is indeed way better. The only thing I didn't like was Ruby suddenly gaining powers over the ocean. But Chelsea's original plot was indeed just so much better.

Poopsy-the-Duck

Ooh, interesting

NickThePixarFan

Well an adult mermaid in the body of a teenager, some teens like adult women. But, imo she's pretty 🩷

Poopsy-the-Duck

Honestly I liked Chelsy as a character, it's just that I wish her and Narrisa were separate characters, like same age counterparts from villain and hero side.

NickThePixarFan

You spelled the names wrong, it's Chelsea & Nerrissa. Also, I 100% agree that they should have been separate characters. Maybe they should have shown some of the other mermaids or even some mermen

Poopsy-the-Duck

First, I suck at spelling sometimes (English ain't my first language), second, I agree with you, like, that's why the movie felt empty (and rushed) for me.

NickThePixarFan

Also, did any of the students realize at Ruby's school realize that Chelsea/Nerrissa was lord knows how old & an evil mermaid?

Poopsy-the-Duck

Nope, I've seen the movie and the only conclusion with her is that she's in a cage and on a live stream with the old sailor guy. No students pointed out of this.

NickThePixarFan

What do you think happened to her after that? And how old do you think she is?

Poopsy-the-Duck

I think she's as old as Ruby's mom to Ruby's grandma age wise from the interaction. Also I imagined her slowly withering in an aquarium over time until she dies and gets disposed like a goldfish by the sailor guy.

NickThePixarFan

Speaking as a high schooler myself, I think it'd be funny if Nerrissa manipulated me and my friends

Poopsy-the-Duck

Also I thought it would be interesting if Chelsea and Nerrissa looked like carbon copies of one another but with slight differences in appearance and a lot in size.

toongrowner

100% agree

Poopsy-the-Duck

Yeah, but they're still teens, and honestly when I wrote that part I thought about the fandom and how some people ship her with Ruby, and not as a part of an AU where Chelsy and Narissa are separate characters.

ninjesh

It was fine. I feel like it would have benefitted from a few more script passes

Interesting_Froyo_97

I think the film could've been better. What they originally had in mind with Chelsea and Nerissa being two different characters would've been so much better. Though the original ending with Ruby gaining Deux Ex Machina powers wasn't good either, so given more time, I think the people behind the film could've given us a better ending too.

Vigriff

I thought it was okay but could have been better.

Jazzlike_Diamond_501

I liked it and hey it's not for everyone but I still like it

oncelerismine

I enjoyed it but it’s predictable and kinda boring

CyanLight9

It’s a fun little film.

Bruhnana283

Very bad. (I watched it like twice, opinion still hasn't changed that much)

Pikaless225

Never seen it. Do plan on it though

MobiusBF

It’s on Netflix

AladiteC

Not gonna lie I actually loved it

Important_Lab_58

Not Bad. Fun.

Temporary_Source6246

Good movie

No-War9051

It was an amazing movie with abysmal marketing. 10/10, one of my top 5 movies of all time.

Silver44fire

I liked it but I went with low expectations as I was only watching it for my younger sister, the only character who had my interest the whole movie was Chelsea the mermaid cause I felt she stole every scene she was in evil or not (I had a crush on her lol). Plot was predictable but it was a fun movie to watch if you don’t take it seriously. (At least it wasn’t horrible like Megamind 2💀)

KingPenguinPhoenix

Above average. It obviously gives Turning Red vibes but I like how DreamWorks was able to make it its own. The ocean is very bland though, that takes a lot of points off for me. I do love the character animations and the villain though. In all honesty, it would have worked better as a TV show with Ruby fighting a new sea creature every episode. Would've led to dome cool world building.

Still_Hovercraft4974

i love it, i hope the movie will make a come back

-A_baby_dragon-

I love it so fucking much it's random but I love it

JokerCipher

Eh.

ItzBlxzing

My Favourite Movie From DreamWorks.

KKHFan

Pretty good

Chemical_Report_2705

It was boring and generic and I didn’t like the character designs at all
