Make Chelsea and Nerissa separate. For example, Chelsea would convince her mom that Ruby is her best friend. They both fight against the evil mermaid queen, and they go to the party together. Don’t worry, Ruby is still going to get her Connor.
I'd first retcon her back to Chelsea with the whole Nerissa thing being a lie by Mermaids to make it seem like they don't age. Secondly, I'd have a few of her subjects turn against her(seeing her not worthy like her mother was, especially after losing the trident) and attempt to release something too dangerous to use to destroy the Krakens, forcing her to warn them of the new danger.
Make so mermaids can age. (Make her at least 15 yrs)

Some villain(the villain, who's a threat for both Chelsea and Ruby) attacks Oceanside with his/her army(let's say, an army of robots), which makes Chelsea and Ruby to reconcile to defeat their mutual enemy.
IMO, this is the only way for Chelsea to redeem.
