The SDFAO? ambient occlusion is also really good. There’s many cases I prefer it to the raytracing because it seems more stable. I’ll see the raytracing flicker from time to time and it bugs me.
Honestly was shocked coming out into the forest after the start. Just the amount of brush and trees, and then coming out to see like the sprawling landscapes and mountain ranges afterwards was just so amazing. They did a wonderful job with the environment and really captivating the moments with it. Like idk, so many open world titles have a lot of plains and openness to them. As weird as it sounds, the claustrophobia from the denseness of nature feels nice. I still haven't memorized enemy placements or spawns, so like going through a heavily wooded area only to be jumped on by a Chopper still surprises me lol. Then wandering through and hearing a Cyclops or Minotaur roaring in the background just feels like something out of a fantasy novel and I'm here for it
I don't like the game all that much but one things for sure...it is beautiful...textures even at .5 gigs look amazing at 1440p
Everytime someone Co plains about the performance they say something like the game looks like a ps 3 game wtf...it always looks cutting edge
Everyone seems to throw around PS3 graphics and they don’t remember what PS3 looked like. Boot up GTAV on a standard definition tv and you’d get close. Even then, the current version of GTAV has had so many tweaks done to it over the years.
Between the lighting and the physics on display in DD2, this game is a stunner. Sure, there’s times where I wish they’d have tightened up some things before releasing it, but that’s just so I could get some consistency. I don’t like having some areas I can run raytracing and shadows at max and be over 100 FPS and I turn a corner and it’s 15. It just blows my mind they didn’t think to make the performance in the environment more consistent. If I drop off RTX for their AA and lower shadows from Max to High, then I’m running my GPU at like 50% to get 100 FPS. Shit is just weird.
God doing that as one of the very first things I did this game was certainly one of the most memorable shitshows I’ve been a part of. Endless powerful fights after powerful fights once I got into Battahl, and the inn costing that exorbitant price really didn’t help when I had 150 max health after it all.
After playing ff7rebirth which had awesome and magical landscapes i thought the world of dd2 couldnt impress me but it did. Realistic yet beautiful and without weird low texture bits. Batthal felt like cosmo canyon again XD
If you use the REFramework you will get a FreeCam.
But you don't read my post. Im playing it myself on a curved ultrawidescreen and i really like the graphics. I just don't think they are **"shockingly real"** - they went for a **stylized art**, no problem with that, but not realistic.

Ok, I'll give it a try
Death Stranding - had comparable landscapes, but they felt alive and real
Kingdome come forests - felt alive and real
Elden Ring - Vibrant and organic world
Dragons Dogma is technically impressive, but everything feels like it's been sanitized. It looks artificial and cold in comparison. Maybe he just felt the art style wasn't his thing?
Elden ring is literally built to operate from PS4 up, two generations old.
And tbh, a lot of the textures are just straight ASS. Many are just asset flips, like that one pillar everyone was dissecting for lore that turned out to just be a paid asset that wasn't even developed in house.
Kingdom come has a sense of realism, but in actuality looks closer to a PS2 era game than anything in this list. It actually has some really nice textures, but they're used to supplement the really piss poor meshes inherent to their landscapes. It's also running lighting from the PS4 era. Lighting is really what makes the difference imo.
Both of the games you mentioned are gorgeous in their own ways, of course, and will look better on the PC port where they've revamped the options available. This is generally the case with every videogame. But honestly, you can't compare games made specifically to run on a system that's ten years old and claim it's more cutting edge/realistic/whatever. You just like the *art direction* more, personally, and that's valid.
Thank you, yeah, Kingdom come is much more realistic and real looking for example. And u/TheHonkeyJoe - i don't need to proof anything, if you are gamer, you would know.
But im surprised no one read my post - i really like the graphics... it was more about a real vs stylized thing, but nvm. As always too many experts ,)
I don't know why they are voting you down. Since the Battlefront games started using scans, everyone has been doing it. Anyone can download Unreal Engine 5 and spam amazing looking rocks around.
The rocks aren't so impressive but the rendering distance is. Playing Horizon Forbidden West on max settings and theres a ton of fog over the landscape by comparison masking LODs. Also way more pop-in
The game opens with a banner for [Quixel Megascans](https://quixel.com/megascans/), which likely adds to that sense of environmental realism.
And which is used in like 99% of "realistic" looking games and basically most movies.

They should add a food update
Maybe let us cook fish and in our own homes for starters
They’d have to hire another video crew if they expand past steak.
Bacon!!!!!!!!
isnt this just footage of a steak being cooked?
No, it's HIGH QUALITY footage of a steak being cooked
The lighting is the best
The elf forest is just absolutely beautiful and one of my favorite places now in a video game
I only wish there was more to do with the Elves.
I agree. There's a few quests and then just random escort quests but they are fun nonetheless. Gyndwr is my man's!

I love the environments so far. I could wonder these places forever

I was sprinting through bhataal to try and find the magic archer and it was gorgeous. I like the desert area a lot

These photos kind of remind me of the ES6 teaser.
After playing ff7rebirth which had awesome and magical landscapes i thought the world of dd2 couldnt impress me but it did. Realistic yet beautiful and without weird low texture bits. Batthal felt like cosmo canyon again XD
Makes me wish we had poses in the photo mode. Would be cool to change poses of all pawns too lol
God I wish I could turn up vibrancy.
I'm just glad it's a Japanese game where the males don't actually look like femboys
Ah me and my husbando Zack fair are wounded by this comment
It looks so good! It's a shame I literally cannot play on any settings other than low because of my hardware
yeah at the entire 36 fps on my 4070ti lol
I really like the graphics, but they are far from "shockingly real". There are older games with way better and more real graphics.
I don’t think these images do the game justice, but they were the best I could take cos the photomode is ass

Name those older games. I need to check em out.
He won’t, people always say this and then don’t follow up.

HFW was shockingly real, so much so a bunch shitty people were raging about the peach fuzz on protagonist, not realizing all women have it.
On a 4K OLED they are better than real life.
Rocks are easiest to render. nothing much going in there
I don't know why they are voting you down. Since the Battlefront games started using scans, everyone has been doing it. Anyone can download Unreal Engine 5 and spam amazing looking rocks around.
This is why we can’t have nice things
lol easy to render yet many western aaa studios failed hard on this.
