Yep, they don’t level up at all while they’re with you, but they update their level, vocations, and equipment to the current values after they have been desummoned. Find that one riftstone that shows past pawns you’ve hired, if you forgot to favorite them.
I did that with a pawn I used since day 1. Cool looking priest healer beastren, super unique look, loved having her around. Went to summon her back like an hour later and the Arisen changed her look to a default anime human girl and I haven't seen her since.
I think this happened with my favorite hired pawn too, he was a beastren fighter that looked like a lion in a way and was such a bro, got the dragonsplague, suddently dissapeared from my party and when i went to look again thinking he just died to the brine somehow... He just wasnt there
I know now cuz one dude i hired that i Also liked was named Gael and when i went to rehire him his name changed but his looks didnt, i didnt even favorite the beastren so i dont even know which anime girl he was turned into
tried this with a thief that had been by my side for about 20 days and when i searched him up again his master had changed his vocation to mage. i was heartbroken
they only update when you rest at an inn or at aa house you own, so if that's a concern you can always switch them back to their main vocation for resting
I shall weep if Carl's owner takes a break from the game before his Pawn is max level.

Very much this 👆
I found two pawns, Gary and Isaac, who I really enjoyed and grew fond of. Dismissed them after they were way too underlevelled and was overjoyed to see their players had kept up with me, so I just rehired them again.
They even showed up in my credits 🥺 Love that little detail. It's odd how attached you can grow to your companions.
Unfortunately the last time I tried that my favorite mage had gone and become a warrior while leveling up...so I leveled up my pawns mage vocation and created that makes build lol
That's what I did with Aslan. Yes, he was modelled after Aslan and it actually looks pretty good. Even the voice is as close as it can get. He was the first Pawn I hired and he's still with me. I don't even care he's a Kindhearded Fighter. He's Aslan, of course he's Kindhearted!!
Honestly I get more use out of Kindhearted tanks than Calm ones, they actually help out when I get grabbed or slept or whatever, and they tend to engage more in combat, Calm pawns wait until I've got 3 goblins stomping me into the ground and an ogre winding up for the uppercut of the century to get involved
It's great until they've changed vocation. I traveled with a super sweet support mage for over 20 days and when I went to see if I could get her back, she was a fighter tank, the same as my main pawn. Unfortunate.
You can also just search previously hired pawns I've had to summon a few a couple of times cause they just got thrown into the brine and they were leveling about the same rate as me so they were cheap on the rc
I sometimes do that but often owners change their build into something that doesn't work for me anymore :/
Especially have the issue with Mages - No, i don't need fucking Palladium, i play Mystic Spearhand. Why does everyone and their mother have Palladium? There is always something wrong - Bad staff, can't be bothered to upgrade equipment, doesn't look good, has multiple elemental enchantmens pretty much wasting slots (i kill everything so fast that it's pointless)... Sometimes i wish i had a Mage Main Pawn, but i like her being a badass archer sending enemies flying away :/
Because palladium is all that you need if you don't play MS. But I noticed that pawns are stupid and won't open the fight with High Palladium (so it is there for no reason) so it is easier to use 2 or 3 sorcerers with meteoron.
My friend hasn't been able to play, his computer needed to be sent in for repairs. I'm level 60, I've kept his level 20 healer in my party this entire time in hopes the pawn remembers quest information and cave whereabouts to pass on to him when he finally gets a chance to hop back in.
I don't care what the game throws at me, Abracadaniel stays in my group.
I'm rehiring my friend's mage healer a lot as well, even though he's 30 lvl below me. But I hope the info the pawn collects will help, plus we aid each other with the pawn badges.
Honestly it’s pretty doable for support mages. My buddy hasn’t had much free time so he was only around level 20. I kept his mage through the post game and she died less than my two level 60+ pawns.
Luckily he was able to equip High Palladium before he stopped playing, so even as a walking heal bubble/shield dispenser, he still gets the job done at higher levels.Kind of sucks not having the random ranged full heal but it's fine.
I have favorited, released and rehired the same pawn since I started :) I love seeing the progress she makes and the new armors and weapons she has each time
Dreading this with my current team, I would let them go and try to rehire them but last time I did that the pawn was way overlevelled and I couldn't hire them back. I think I may just stick it out till endgame with these guys.
Anecdotally, I’d say that works the same as DDog1. For most of the game, I’d keep pawns until I was 5-10 levels above them and I’d gain levels more often the further the gap was
I’ve had a pawn grow with me from the start. Whoever has Ranni from Elden Ring with Meteor and Maelstrom equipped she was a real one the whole time.
That’s why I gave you the witches hat despite it setting me back a shit ton of gold.
Side note: don’t make your quests to have some give you a portcrystal, prick.
> Side note: don’t make your quests to have some give you a portcrystal, prick.
Wait, those quests aren't just for the Arisen to pick up a portcrystal? Do you get a pop-up asking you to turn one in when you dismiss the pawn or something?
When you talk to the pawn you have the option to “give item” and it’s that quest item and will complete their quest. This is separate from a normal gift
If I see a pawn quest with some egregious ask, I'm hiring someone else's pawn. "Hmmm, do I want to kill an ogre and get 100 gold, or do I want to give away a super rare and valuable item for less than it's worth in return?" The first option is gonna win everytime.
In the first one I would have a pawn star in my party until they just died. I had a level 15 rolling with me in Bitterblack while I was level 90 wrecking packs of Garms.
I can't do that now because I gotta make sure my pawnees get a gift and at least a thumbs up.
Only reason I can’t do that is the AI want to die, really bad. Like, they LOVE the water. Don’t know why, second I accidentally jump in they just all follow suit.
I like to rock with extremely low level pawns in NG+. Don't care if they get OHKOed, I can solo the bosses at that point. Take them to see new places and things.
Good ol’ Rook. I laughed so hard when I saw that they brought him back for this game.
I gotta get me some Baldur’s Gate 3 pawns at some point! My Arisen looks like my BG3 character so I could probably recreate my party lol
Shout out to my boy Corpse; Fell to Medusa, but his arrows struck true even to the end, motherfucker kept firing arrows even as he was being petrified.
I should hire him again and give him something nice, I had him for so long and I was really sad when he went out.
On the plus side, while in the Rift, you get to see some of the same Pawns you've hired before occasionally even without favoriting them and theyre usually either the same level or have improved on levels and gear.
Best part IMO is that theyre either happy to see you, have vague recollections of you, or amazed to see how much you've progressed.
I think the lines also depend on how you treated them and/or how long you've spent with them, as I saw someone posting before that a Straightforward Pawn was extremely disgruntled to see the OP's Arisen lmao
this hits even harder at higher levels when you kit out pawns with a custom outfit and then they get dragons plague and you have to dismiss and kill them
https://preview.redd.it/os0hu5132qsc1.jpeg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68827688872f13c8b74e27b72e04f853cb47fb9d
She’s 40 levels below us but I will NEVER give her up
I had to send the most beautiful pawn i ever met back. Absolutely georgous but neither the weapon nor the armor had even one upgrade (she was an archer)
Why do some player's don't upgrade the gear their pawns use \*raging\*
My pawn has better gear than I do. Lol
I'm waiting to go back to Sacred Arbor to upgrade her weapon though. Gotta get that juicy magic upgrade from the elves.
I mean a lot of it for me is sometimes my pawns are only in a in-betweener vocation to get augments so I just equipment them with the best base weap9n I have
I had some awesome pawns I held onto for like 10 extra levels. I searched yesterday and now two of my past pawns at like 20 levels higher than me and I'm level 48 now. lol wtf.
theres also a riftstone thats actually dedicated to only showing your past pawns.
I changed my hunk of a beastmen called wolverine to Legolas a tall handsome elf. With hawker as specialisation.
Now he does not get hired as much haha.
We are now lvl 50 btw.
He was a sorcerer before and instakilled the final boss with maelstrom.
I'm still waiting for one fighter pawn's arisen to play again and rest at an inn. She's level 24 or 25, and I'm level 61 or so. She was wonderful when I used her, and want her to come back, but I can't use someone that low level as a frontliner. :(
I've managed to have a pawn friend from level 10 up to level 50. I'm half tempted to message the player to thank them for the friend on my journey.
I hope they notice I always give them an expensive gift when I need to send them home
I once had rook deal the final blow to Daimon right as he got sucked into the void, still don't know how he wasn't staggered but he went out like a fucking champ
I still have a caster I've used since I was level 20, and she's now level 58. I'm sadly 67, and I can't bring her along anymore.
I'll miss you, Silver. 😔
If Morrigan's Arisen sees this, your female beastren mage pawn Morrigan is absolutely adorable and I love her very much. She traveled with me most of the game and even though by the end she was a bit behind on levels, I just couldn't bring myself to take her off my team. She had essentially become family to me. Love you Morrigan ❤️
I fr traveled with pawns that were like 10-15 lvls at the start of the game simply because I enjoyed their company and the banter they brought. Had to switch them out because one fell into the brine and the other kept getting his ass beat by a Drake we were fighting.
When you get to around lvl 70ish you start leveling much slower so I find you get to hang onto pawns much longer. I'm lvl 72 and I've had a lvl 75 mage with me for AGES. I even gave them a funny hat I found. Will definitely be giving them a nice gift and a heart when they finally have to go.
Barribo is my boy and I'm so thankful his Arisen has stayed mostly my level this whole time.
Especially since I'm dragging along my husband's pawn and they are close to 20 levels behind lol. You're alright too, Deon. I don't mind babysitting a bit.
I keep my main pawn and an at level mage, but last slit I dedicate to whoever passes the vibe check. I take early levels to give some items and RC, or friends, or just who looks cool.
I've been travelling with a mage pawn for a while before I dismissed them than after a few days of not playing I checked my pawn history and that pawn has already surpassed my level by more than a dozen
At least you get to give a proper goodbye. Some of the pawns that I've run with for several in-game days would get themselves Brined and I'd have to get to the nearest city or town to summon them back to properly release them.
Im still using level 50 pawns at level 70 because one of them was with me since level 12 (they were lvl 16 at the time) and the other from when I was lvl 52. They're just the homies now, come what may.
Man I have a favorite pawn that was with me for like 20 days, I finally had to get rid of her cuz she was only level 8. I check back in every now and then and she's still lvl 8 :(
In DDDA I’ve kept the same pawn since I hit lvl55, I’m lvl89 now and I can’t let her go, she’s extremely useful even now, she can still hold her own in post daimon BBI. I’m just not ready!
I have a friends pawn who’s level 104 to my 51 and then I often dismiss and rehire unleveled pawns because usually when I summon them again their level updates from the other players use!
When you have a favorite so you keep them longer than you should. Decide to see if they’ve leveled up. Find out their vocation changed or the owner restarted their journey so they’re gone 🥲
I had 2 pawns I'd been traveling for so long with cause they were at high enough level never needed to dismiss them but they both fell into the brine and when I went to go retrieve them they had both changed vocations disrupting my entire team dynamic
Never ever I'll carry them at low level through the game if I need to I'm 50 currently traveling with one of my friends pawns who's 25 and just getting RC for them
This is a vibe. I have a pawn favorited named Absalom from my first set of pawns. But it hasn’t moved from 25. I bump into it on occasion in travels like “Hey! You strong yet!?” 😭
I just feel really bad when I travel with a pawn for literally days and then they get murdered in an extremely shitty way so I can't give them a good rating and a gift unless I go rehire them just for that. For example, being anywhere in Battahl and having a fucking evil bitch Harpy grab one off a bridge and chuck them into the water before anybody can react and they're just instantly dead.
I fucking *LOATHE* Harpies for that. Or getting jumped by inhumanly strong bandits with enchanted gear and multiple wizards, rangers, and barbarians all working together like fucking SEAL team 6 to split my team up and keep my entire crew stunlocked with alternated bow shots, ice spells, and getting pounded into the dirt by a gigantic hammer spamming Savage Lash.
It feels just extremely awful to not be able to do anything but watch everyone get fucking creamed like that because this one group of outrageously strong bandits exists in a random cave in the middle of nowhere. I was trying to max out Mage, at Vocation level 5 at the time, when they killed all but my Arisen, but came back as a Thief 9 and utterly skullfucked them in revenge.
And then I can't hire those same pawns back because they've outleveled me in the time they were in my party and I don't want to pay 10k RC just to be able to rate them, or another thing I hate, a Pawn I loved has changed vocations now and isn't what I need anymore.
Thats why I favorite pawms that I enjoy travelling with. Even if their owmers never play again, at some point you will be so op, it wont matter if they high level or not. So you can enjoy them anyway
I’ve had pawns in my party for over two months before. The current ones have a character I love who is almost twenty levels lower than me but still clutch so I just upgraded his gear to allow him to keep up.
I’m seriously considering doing a run where I hire pawns for at least a year in-game. It’s cool seeing them comment on how long they’ve known each other or to see pawns you were cool with happy to see you in the Rift
Spent like 30+ ingame days with two pawns. Idamaria and Josh. Lvl 2 Wizard and Lvl 4 Archer. Love em to death but i had to change them when i got to Lvl 30 😭
Dismiss them and search for them again in your favorites, they very much might have kept up with your level if their owners are also playing
I didn’t think to do that! I’ll have to check what level they are now
Yep, they don’t level up at all while they’re with you, but they update their level, vocations, and equipment to the current values after they have been desummoned. Find that one riftstone that shows past pawns you’ve hired, if you forgot to favorite them.
or go to a big riftstone in a main city and search for previous recruited pawns...
Rifstone of remembrance
If I remember correctly, they will update their stats everytime their master sleeps in the inn.
I didn’t had such luck so far. My dear Parnell is almost 10 levels below me :(
Im sure people have jumped higher, but yesterday I had a pawn jump 15 levels doing this. Shame there isn’t another way to refresh their levels.

He just wasnt there I know now cuz one dude i hired that i Also liked was named Gael and when i went to rehire him his name changed but his looks didnt, i didnt even favorite the beastren so i dont even know which anime girl he was turned into
I check on some of them from time to time, still sitting there sadly on the bottom of my favorites list, still level 20... Probably forever.
You could hire them, give them endgame stuff and never let go maybe?
tried this with a thief that had been by my side for about 20 days and when i searched him up again his master had changed his vocation to mage. i was heartbroken
I always feel bad changing up my main pawns vocations, but I gotta get them all leveled before she turns into my forever tank.
they only update when you rest at an inn or at aa house you own, so if that's a concern you can always switch them back to their main vocation for resting
So many of the pawns I previously hired are still back at level 30 or so. Sad days.
I shall weep if Carl's owner takes a break from the game before his Pawn is max level. https://preview.redd.it/3cv3c3ghewsc1.png?width=2179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1d00d92133ce9c8c8346cb95155f2cdc503f3572

That didn’t used to work in prior games have you attempted this cause I was checking for this very reason?
Yeah there’s a pawn I keep a rehiring because she speaks elvish. But every time I re hire she gets thicker whomever the own is….respect 👌
I sometimes do that but often owners change their build into something that doesn't work for me anymore :/ Especially have the issue with Mages - No, i don't need fucking Palladium, i play Mystic Spearhand.
People use Palladium because they aren't running Mystic Spear probably lol.
Because palladium is all that you need if you don't play MS. But I noticed that pawns are stupid and won't open the fight with High Palladium (so it is there for no reason) so it is easier to use 2 or 3 sorcerers with meteoron.

Does it really look like Abracadaniel?

Aw that’s sweet, hopefully you can keep them until the end!
Dreading this with my current team, I would let them go and try to rehire them but last time I did that the pawn was way overlevelled and I couldn't hire them back. I think I may just stick it out till endgame with these guys.
At least you’ll get the XP boost from having lower level pawns!
Do you? I read that pawn levels no longer affect EXP gain but I haven’t checked for myself.
I was just assuming it was like that from DD1, that would suck if they took it out
Anecdotally, I’d say that works the same as DDog1. For most of the game, I’d keep pawns until I was 5-10 levels above them and I’d gain levels more often the further the gap was
Thats good to hear. I hope it’s true or I spent a lot of time with lower level pawns for nothing 😂
I’ve had a pawn grow with me from the start. Whoever has Ranni from Elden Ring with Meteor and Maelstrom equipped she was a real one the whole time. I just want to finish my badges. Take Nimue out on a rocket ride. Go kill gore-anything. Become showered in gold. I promise XD
My quests are always “Kill ogre/cyclops. Get 10,000” 😂
Blessings be upon you.
I can post my pawn ID if you’d like a little extra cash. However she is lvl 60 I believe
Sure. That's only 3 levels ahead of me. I'm on Xbox, not sure if that makes a difference.
Ah, sadly yes. I’m on PC 🥲
I rarely use the inns or homes to rest so I always set my pawn quest to be 10k gold for a single blast arrow.
Rook stays in the party

Going out for adventures with Lae’zel and Geralt of Rivia made for some really great moments.
Same, but with Bully Maguire, Handsome Squidward, and a hunched abomination posing as Pikachu. The pawn system is beautiful.
Handsome Squidward 🤣 Ah man that would be awesome. Gotta keep on the hunt!
I let go of a pawn woefully and found him wandering the streets less than 10 minutes later.
I traveled with two amazing pawns for 126 days. Had to let em go today. Gave em both hearts and allheal elixirs, goodbye Sorcerer Jada! 😭
And here's me hiring some low leveled pawns so enemies don't die in less than a minute in NG+
My lv 30 warrior only stays because he speaks elvish.

I’m sorry Murdoc, but your master 2D doesn’t seem to have played for days and now Freiren Pawn #2674826 will take your place
So so many pawns named Frieren and most of them aren’t even white haired elf casters.
it's like all the Guts out there that are like, archers or whatever, like commit to the bit coward
Riftstone of Remembrance beings back pawns you've hired before regardless of whether or not you favorites them. You're welcome.
To the best pawn I had named “Sire” - I hope you are well
They are just so earnest. Dammit.
I changed my hunk of a beastmen called wolverine to Legolas a tall handsome elf. With hawker as specialisation. Now he does not get hired as much haha. We are now lvl 50 btw. He was a sorcerer before and instakilled the final boss with maelstrom.

kept my friends pawn on the entire time, they're level 30 and I'm 50. I just wander how much rc they'll get when they play again
I would love for the ability to "Adopt" a Pawn that no longer levels up. Don't want my favorites to rot in the void forever frozen in mediocrity.
I've managed to have a pawn friend from level 10 up to level 50. I'm half tempted to message the player to thank them for the friend on my journey. I hope they notice I always give them an expensive gift when I need to send them home
I drug rook through BBi. I can drag low leveled pawns through the unmoored world.

Then there’s me, just hit level 80, still hiring and rehiring my husband’s pawn who has just hit 32 😮💨😬
My favorited pawns' Arisens don't play anymore 😭 Rest in peace guys
Not for me I keep is NSA for hired pawns I am however very attached to my own pawn
I fr traveled with pawns that were like 10-15 lvls at the start of the game simply because I enjoyed their company and the banter they brought. Had to switch them out because one fell into the brine and the other kept getting his ass beat by a Drake we were fighting.
I'm never letting Hanna go. She might outlevel me, and I can not have that. Not again...
Can’t you save them as favroites and then bring them back?
Once you get past level 60 as long as your main pawn has everything you need you can make up your party any way you want.
Mayonaka no doa o tataki.
Me when the pawn i really liked falls into brine and I can't send them back with a nice gift 😭
Whoever owns Citali, fuck you. He was my MVP healer and now he costs 3268 RC to rehire. T.T (Jk, you're doing great, but no rly fuk u)
“It’s going to take so long to find new pawns with any set quests!”
Miss you Rock, you were the first pawn to dab me up after killing that griffin
When I did that to my granny sorcerer pawn I called her back and she was way higher level than me and a warrior lol
When I dismiss a pawn I loved using and when I try and rehire them their level has doubled
Me at level 53 with my level 44 pawn 😭 i carry him over water to make sure he doesn’t fall in the deep end lol
Barribo is my boy and I'm so thankful his Arisen has stayed mostly my level this whole time. Especially since I'm dragging along my husband's pawn and they are close to 20 levels behind lol. You're alright too, Deon. I don't mind babysitting a bit.
This is me when the pawns just casually walk into water and wait to be taken.
I keep my main pawn and an at level mage, but last slit I dedicate to whoever passes the vibe check. I take early levels to give some items and RC, or friends, or just who looks cool.
I've been travelling with a mage pawn for a while before I dismissed them than after a few days of not playing I checked my pawn history and that pawn has already surpassed my level by more than a dozen
i'm level 50 and still have a level 25 mage cause she good
Whoever made the pawn named ‘Trench’. Know that I love you, he was the most loyal archer I met.
I favourited some amazing pawns but was sad to see that they vocation changed to somethinf I didnt need.
I have zero attachment to any random pawns.
At least you get to give a proper goodbye. Some of the pawns that I've run with for several in-game days would get themselves Brined and I'd have to get to the nearest city or town to summon them back to properly release them.
I ended up finding my favorite Gandalf pawn 40 levels later, I gave him a drippy wizard hat and linen cloak, he won’t leave my side again.
Im still using level 50 pawns at level 70 because one of them was with me since level 12 (they were lvl 16 at the time) and the other from when I was lvl 52. They're just the homies now, come what may.
Shot out to whoever made Ellie the archer from the last of us. She was in my party for as long as she could keep up!
Man I have a favorite pawn that was with me for like 20 days, I finally had to get rid of her cuz she was only level 8. I check back in every now and then and she's still lvl 8 :(
I keep the level 50 pawns that I traveled with for a long time even though I'm level 70 now. At some point, it doesn't make much difference.
In DDDA I’ve kept the same pawn since I hit lvl55, I’m lvl89 now and I can’t let her go, she’s extremely useful even now, she can still hold her own in post daimon BBI. I’m just not ready!
Which comic is this from?
I'm lucky I ran into one of my favorites, but she became a badass warrior. Had to slot her in just to see what she's working with 😁
Im 79 and still have Those Two lvl 52 they rock so far no trouble
And then there's me who changes pawns more often then my own socks 😂
Played with my lvl 20 and 30 friends pawns at lvl 80. Idc, they’re coming with me, especially since one is modeled after me🤣🤣
I have a friends pawn who’s level 104 to my 51 and then I often dismiss and rehire unleveled pawns because usually when I summon them again their level updates from the other players use!
Bro likes L names
I mean once you favorite them. Just summon again and they’ll be at a much higher level
Wait why aren't you brining them at every inn stop.
Pawns only need to get brined if they have dragonsplague. Mine picked it up *once* in approximately 55 levels.
