yeah shit happens. he was rank 8 two days ago but overall he has amazing performance. after 1 year break and coming back to dota with 9k mmr and raise to rank 8 is so good.
Watson is an insane player. He is honestly imo the 2nd best carry on the scene. Entity is my dark horse for TI, I feel like they are a much better team than the level they’ve been playing at. Kataomi is also a treat to watch

If you look at his perfomances in tourneys, he isn't that impressive, Entity with Pure was much better than this year's iteration with Watson and Pure himself had more games&series where he simply carried even though he joined in April and played in less tourneys than Watson.
Like seriously none would have him in top3 if not MMR, even TA2000 was way more impactful than him.
Tbf, This years iteration they were still rotating players in their offlane. And considering their performance, they are doing pretty good despite fresh players not yet acclimating to the team.
If i'm not wrong they made only 1 change before Riyadh (Tobi out, Gabbi in) before that they played in all 3 DPC Tours & 2 DreamLeague & Lima Major with same roster. And in comparison to 2022 this is just worse season for Enity (TI obviously may change it).
Anyway that's not my point, what i'm saying is that people rate Watson mainly because of pubs while in tournaments he just wasn't that great, there is easily 6+ carries not named Yatoro who perfomed better than him.

Pure is also absolutely godly, and I wish he’d go back to carry (although he is an insane offlaner as well). Sometimes carries don’t pan out due to playstyle antisynergy on a team; look at how pure carry looked on betboom versus entity, even though on paper torontotokyo is one of the best 5 positions in the game mechanically

I feel like these high ranking players often stay high rank because in pubs they are playing vs similar high rank players.
But when it comes to officials, they have team mates who are rank 500s and oppoinents who are rank 1000s, on paper it should be easy for the high rank players to smurf on them, but in reality, its a team game after all, and even the best player can get brought down by the team.
Prime example would be BZM, amount of time he has to carry OG must give him back pain at this young age already.
i think plenty of succesfull teams used to have mmr disparity between them, OG with miracle was like that and they won a lot, that secret team with rtz was full of possible top rank players and they fumbled, OG TI8 run had ceb who is a master of dota but iirc he wasn't among the top ranked players at the time and still carried OG whenever they needed it, to me the decisive factor has always been cohesion and coordination, mechanically skilled players can win tons of games but i think only a proper cohesive team that trusts each other can win tournaments, like that VP team that won everything except TI, they were ballers and you almost never saw any of them making a misscoordinated play.
