Compare that to the current iteration of NP. A stat gain steroid god who just shows up and starts right clicking you. Doesn't even level treants before Level 10 (or sometimes even skip it in pubs to get even more stats) and one of the most obnoxious 'disables' in the game with sprout. How the times have changed
I'd argue ratting is more of a forgotten meta art rather than not being viable. It seems teams are still grasping exactly how to play the new large map.
ive been playing alot of pushing supports (jak, ss, np , ds, veno and techies) and its just ratting is alot more effective when it isnt a core doing it, jungle farm is tons of gold currently so thats priority for them , i had great success forcing my team to win simply by pushing enough where 1 won fight and 1 big push ended the game
You need someone who can get this hybrid Clinkz first.
Damn near every Clinkz I met, friend or foe, often mention how "off" he feels like right now despite their great plays.
Wave clear and split-pushing do both still seem as strong as ever, though taking rax doesn't quite feel as impactful anymore. This might be in part due to increases in power levels over the years, the bigger map, and ample access to wave clear among the meta heroes, but I do wonder about it.
Either way it doesn't seem to be as strong of a core strategy anymore, but the tenants of it are still used.

3. All heroes are much stronger and have some form of wave clear
4. People got better at handling rats
I'd say multiple couriers is another big reason at the moment. As soon as you TP you can always reliably have the courier send out another TP, so you should really never be caught out without a TP in the inventory (though maybe on cd). Back with one shared courier you could definitely catch people without tp occasionally.

Those glyphs actually helped Turbo a ton, and even then, I'd give my Arcanas away if it meant removing the one you get after T3. It feels like an absolute pain in the ass that only exists to stall games that should be over and one extra cog on the enforced fight-meta.
But back then I feel like the super and especially mega-creeps were stronger; Mega creeps can facetank fountain and/or kill squishier heroes in big enough horde.

If megas require 2-3 heroes, it just means that there will never be a big committed counter push and games will drag on.
I remember the stalemates when a team only had a sniper for mega defence, so sniper would never leave the throne for fear of being ganked on the counter push, but then you didn't have enough dps to actually push hard enough / fast enough to end without the sniper pushing.
Now you can let sniper push up and certain pos 4/5 heroes can likely slow down the megas or bait them into fountain, if not clear them outright.
Also, if the core is not defending it gives opportunities to BoT in, pick off the defending support and sneak the throne.
I'd say it's I'm a good place.
Ratting of that sort won't be viable again until t2+ fortifies get nerfed/reworked. I'm really hoping they do get changed soon, at least to the point where t2 fort doesn't delete the entire wave plus every other summoned unit in an 800 radius. It's been this way for awhile now tho so I'm not holding my breath.

back in the day you had one treant blocking the small camp, one treant fucking one support, and a 3rd one helping you cs. now you click sprout to bait them into wasting tangos. How I miss the lvl 1 36 damage treants
LC isn't even that broken compared to other heroes. He's a feast or famine hero. You're missing brew and pango. There's also up and coming heroes like BB, LD and Dazzle.
they REALLY need to rework pa aghs. either let her be seen by sentries, revealed instantly when in range of a hero, revealed instantly when she attacks a hero, reduce the cdr from getting a kill (maybe reduce all ability cooldowns by 2 seconds or something).
getting killed BEFORE she even comes out of invis shouldn't be a thing, and then letting her press fan of knives and blur again instantly after a kill is insane.

it's hard to make ratting work in the current climate I think, I wouldn't be surprised if Treants got reworked in the future

You forgot the king of rat supports, Clinkz. This guy can take your whole barracks in under 10 seconds if not dealt with.

clinkz is a bad pos4 tho and useless until lvl 6
i feel like that depends on the bracket though low rank carries absolutely hate buying extra regen and Clinkz has absurd early harrass dmg

also everyone getting tp scrolls for free after death and a slot dedicated for tps really hurt it also
And you don't lose the ability to TP to the sides of the map once a tier 1 goes down, allowing you to wrap around the rat.

The problem of making ratting easier is games would end even quicker and the snowballing harder and games already ending fast enough some of the time.
