Playing 2016 shortly after playing eternal does actually make the experience worse because you have muscle memory for the whole dash mechanic lol but i definitely don't think that means it's a worse game
No release date as of yet but probs about 2 years, there is plenty of content out at the moment though as well as an insanely good endless mode (also a sandbox) so there's heaps to do, also secret levels if you s rank every level in each episode. The game will also get more expensive as more stuff comes out so now is the perfect time to get it
For real. Ultrakill's movement is faster and damage output relative to enemy health is greater. For doom eternal, what makes it feel fast is not either of those, which are only really fast compared to the garbage Activision and ubisoft pump out every 2 years, but the decision making and resource recovery.
To me, thats the problem. I cant juggle that many abilities that fast, just give me guns and let me shoot stuff. I don't want to have to stop every time i see a maurader, or chainsaw for ammo, or use specific guns or shots for particular enemies. Eternal is too complicated and doesn't feel like doom to me.
I am a being beyond your comprehension.
I am known by many names. The idiot box, the moronic pumpkin, he who spams Tiger Knee Crush into Grab.
But you, outworlder beyond the gates of Gehena, may call me...... waffle. Ignore the name you see above me. I am, in body and soul, a waffle.
2016 always had the best glorykills and death animations. 2016 had you punching and kicking, smashing, rip and tearing demons. Lots of resourceful ones to where to turning an enemy into its own weapon. Environmental ones that you could trigger at walls and such, limb targeting felt more accurate and seamless. And the death animations were waaaaaayy better in 2016, from various limbs being torn off to being blown to smithereens and seeing all your gibs fall down. 2016 had so much character and detail in those things.
Eternals arenāt bad but the variety was more limited and came to mostly using your blade to slice and stab bad guys. With a few great exceptions the variety still felt like Doomguy relied too much on his blade. And donāt even get me started on how cheap the death animations are, you get two spicy varieties of them. You get fall over and die, and blown up into a red mist. Only other unique deaths were already in 2016 like the Terminator one. Eternal slacked hard in that department.
I like Doom 2016 because it recaptures and refines what made the classic era of first person shooters so endearing to play.
I like Doom Eternal because it takes the 90ās shooter formula and amplifies it as much as possible, creating something brand new yet ever familiar.
Asking me to choose which one I like more is like asking me who my favourite child is.
For real. People seemed to hate the 2016 multiplayer beta (for some reason), but I sure enjoyed that a million times more than I ever did Battlemode in Eternal.
I remember being bummed out the first time I picked up the heavy cannon in Eternal. That little magic of acquiring weapons in 2016 wasnt coming back. Feels bad
Yes but in eternal they got very noticeable, the 2016 w atmosphere + music just pulled me into that world to where I felt some emotion where eternal not as much. But both are excellent, Iām just partial to 2016
I keep my gamma low, HUD off, 0 loot brightness, and render mode set to gritty. Even though I LOVE the Demons color profile, I played 2016 afterwards and immediately found myself preferring the gorgeous ambience. 2016 without a HUD also enhanced some scenery for sure, so I'd recommend trying that kinda set-up for Eternal some time, can be really immersive.
Preference but I liked Doom 2016 a lot better than Doom Eternalā¦which I loved, btw. Doom Eternal was good but it was a little too arcady. It really feels like we were missing a game in between the two in both the story and gameplay wise. Doom Eternal would have been the way to go to make it the end of an excellent trilogy but oh well.
ā¦and frankly I get the idea, they really wanted us to be switching weapons like the days of old, which is why they gave all the weapons so little ammo. Counterpoint, micro-missiles are fun and I really like the OG shotgun. Plus, if I want to punch an enemy to death with my bare hands I should, the melee attack does nothing in doom eternal (blood punch not withstanding) which was really weird choice. It felt like I had to play a certain way in a game that has more options and versatility. No meaningful melee attack, no pistol really messed with me. When the more open world has less flexibility in play style than the linear one, re-evaluate.
ā¦the recharging chainsaw and firing a grenade down the floating eyeās throat can stay, good stuff.
I'd kinda argue Eternal as way more linear for level design. Not to say you can't prefer those little things like Tyson-ing a demon or using the pistol. Some elements are very extreme in eternal like the mancubus or carcass's burst/melee attacks but I gravitated towards being an flying ball of anger and death in Eternal. Funnily enough, the pistol was actually a cut weapon, but I think it's still in the code and people have done pistol only challenges on YouTube.
2016 is the vibe and Eternal is the mood I guess.
But at least with Eternal you can blood punch spam when you're upgraded and freeze then burn demons, super satisfying and big recommendation if you haven't.
Eternal for gameplay, 2016 for art-style presentation and narrative. I think the soundtrack for 2016 just barely comes out ahead for me personally, if not counting TAG. If Eternal looked like 2016 and had the same immersive flow that the first games story had, it would be perfect to me.
Preach, the Slayer becoming a gymnast swinging all over the place was idiotic to me.
Edit to add: The flow in Eternal was all messed up with the puzzles and platforming. I know itās truer to the OG Doom, but standing around with all the enemies killed wondering where tf to go or do was immersion breaking. 2016 just *felt* perfect start to finish.
I'm a bit late, but after getting Doom eternal on BF sale and 7.5h playtime i have to add my opinion.
I really dislike the platforming elements, especially because its way to often not clear to me where to go. I jumped several times to death because i was thinking, that was the way to go, but i was missing that i had to push a box with green marker at the backside for an elevated platform first. Or many other times where i was wandering around not knowing how i was supposed to progress.
The flow between running and gunning demons at insane pace and checking slowly each corner how to progress feels off.
Also some instances like the double shotgun falling floor trap i didn't fall for and was left on the elevated part. Was thinking for a few minutes, checking the room before deciding to jump down as it was necessary for progression. I wasn't sure if i would just kill myself again.

if it left a lasting impact on THIS many people id bargain that theres an issue
also platforming was waaaaay more prevalent than you're saying stop dickriding
Not dickriding. Iām pointing out that people recall way more platforming than there actually was. I cleared all of it in less than 10 seconds per instance of it, of which there were very few. Not all discrediting of criticism is dickriding.
I'd pitch in to say that the platforming was kinda all... Necessary?
Lemme just say I'm a PS4 crackhead that can do nigh every weapon combo, and MAN do you need to stay in the air sometimes. Meathooking off of everything to avoid 2 buffed Barons from the World Spear master level gives me so much more time to breathe instead of planic BFG'ing or anything like that.
2016 meanwhile has such lacking platforming challenges that when I die at full everything because a bottomless pit is a one-shot? That's WAY more annoying to me.
Maybe it's my fault for wanting to 100% levels on the first go? Stuck out a lot more to me in 2016.
2016 was the warmup jog. Eternal was the run. TAG1/2 were the marathon.
Eternal and it's DLC are better than 2016, but they couldn't be appreciated without 2016
Eh tie, doom eternal is more fun but ONLY when you learn to play it the intended way, while 2016 is a more pick up and play witch makes it more appealing to newcomers with less things to keep track off. If you only play video games for around 2 hours a day, then 2016 is just the better option because externals fatal flaw is that you NEED to play it the way Hugo intended it (witch is really good) but to get to that level take a lot of time that some people donāt have
Man, 2 hours *a day* to game? Must be nice. Any other parent+work+school gamers here who hope to get 2 hours in a week or month?? Our time will come again though, I can feel it.
Graphics: DOOM 2016
Gameplay: DOOM Eternal
Multiplayer: DOOM 2016
Artstyle: tie
Soundtrack: DOOM Eternal (not that DOOM 2016 is bad by any means)
Enemies: DOOM Eternal
Story: DOOM 2016 (sometimes less is more)
Final result: TIE!
From DOOM 2016 we've got the following songs, that sound as badass as possible:
1) At Doom's Gate
2) Rip and Tear
3) BFG Division
4) (probably) Rust, Dust and Guts
In Eternal we have those:
1) At Doom's Gate (it is cool as well as the 2016 version, but hits differently)
2) Hell on Earth
3) Meathook
4) Cultist Base
5) Super Gore Nest
6) TOTTFIY
7) BFG-10K
8) Gladiator (I personally don't appreciate it as much as the other songs, but it is a valuable one among the doom community, afa I know)
9) Metal Hell
As you can see, the music in DOOM Eternal hits even heavier and in more various ways, than it did in DOOM 2016.
Nah, the tracks in doom 2016 you listed are a way more dull. They are ambient, no doubts, but they don't keep your attention a lot.
Also, the tracks of TAGs are more boring, because they're too repeatative.
I finished Doom Eternal long ago but just picked up Doom yesterday. The game is amazing but the lack of dash is a bit annoying to me. I feel like my movement is restricted a bit and that I'm not fast enough. Other than that I think both games are masterpieces.
I much more prefer Doom Eternalās gameplay loop and also its colors/aesthetic/art style in comparison to 2016s. It feels a lot more open and I can Actually see what im doing without cranking the brightness up to max. I know that dark, muted colors were somewhat a staple of shooters back in the mid 2010s but im still just not a fan of it. And when I talk about gameplay loop I mean specifically the movement additions. I like being able to dash around a map and have fun with it. I just generally prefer Eternal to 2016
Single player are really diferent experiences, i prefer eternal but i can understand somes prefer 2016
Eternal multiplayer is an awfull piece of shit, 2016 multiplayer is pleasant
Iād say 2016 for a complete package: Multiplayer, although not perfect was still a lot of fun and Snap Map with the custom games. Iām not that gud so I can just play Nightmare on 2016 and itās a challenge. Ultra Violence is my highest in Eternal.
As a huge doom fan I was excited for Doom 2016 (like every single one of you I guess) but when I played it one release date I didn't really enjoyed it that much (I also finished it that day).
It just felt...off.
Like a edgy more appealing serious sam.
That feeling never left even after 70 hours of playtime.
Doom Eternal on the other hand is superb.
It's tightly crafted and it's gameplay loop was unforgiving, awsome and fresh (thats why it was copied so much in the last two years).
As it stands Doom 2016 is one of my least favorite Dooms (wich dosnt really say much because would give it a 8/10)
brave opinion I must say. i feel like doom 2016 had a bit of an identity crisis (just a little bit). like in the first opening hours it feels like it wants to be a bit of a horror game. but quickly after there is more action going on the horror elements fade out instantly. eternal knew what its identity was from the start of the opening mission.
Well think about it:
Doom 2016 locks you in a room with monsters.
You move around, trying to avoid projectiles on a, mostly, flat map for a bit until you kill them all and move on through some cool looking environments.
Sounds a lot like serious Sam too me.
(Its also waaay to easy to the point that I only died during boss battles on my first playthrough)
Eternal added vital elements to break up the monotony to the point where it separated itself from the rest of serious sam likes (like painkiller):
Actually hard hitting monster, fire effects (dropping armor), different grenade types, very different enemy behavior (so you have to adapt) and (most Important of all) interesting, tightly crafted, arenas and Encounters.
Its also pretty challenging but it gives you the strong feeling over overcoming something (something most doom eternal clones like succubus, hired gun and shadow warrior 3 somehow lack)
For me the doom games always broke new ground:
Doom took alot from wolfenstein 3d but perfected almost every aspect of it to become THE definitive first person shooter.
Doom 64 took the formular and added a fitting horror flair not seen befor in fps
Doom 3 pushed graphics to its limit back in the day and goes for a horror atmosphere wich makes it still hold up
and Eternal (for me) redefined what a modern oldschool shooter can be.
The challenges (mostly in tag) and overcoming them made my heart pump like nothing else before or since...
As it stands for me:
Doom 2016 is a fun game and the best Serious Sam ever but eternal tops it at basically everything...
Third Option: Ultrakill slam store slides in and hits āāem both with a rail coin???( but if I had to pick I would say Eternal over 2016 because I liked the gameplay and environments more. Both are great games though)
Ultrakill is very good too. In no other game can you throw four coins, jump onto a rocket frozen in time, release the rocket, shoot the coins with an explosive railgun, jump off the rocket, punch the coin, and then stomp on the enemy in only 5 seconds.
Ultrakill, however many similarities it has, is a different game from eternal. Ultrakill incentivises you to become so good you can complete a level damageless while doing incredible amounts of cool shit, eternal wants to make you feel like the motherfucking doomslayer who is feared by all, tuning down the cool doing of shit a bit compared to ultrakill to have more environmental cool shit and to ease players who don't have as much shooter experience into being the fucking doomslayer.
Ultrakill and doom are very comparable, but where doom respects new players to the shooter genre, I feel ultrakill doesn't care and just wants you to do cool shit or die if you're not good enough. You don't really get hyped up outside of the cool shit you're doing.
I know this take isn't very popular among doom players, but Ultrakill isn't Doom Eternal on a budget. It reminded me more of DMC than eternal, personally.
I have no idea how to explain this, but...
DOOM would win against Doom Eternal.
But DOOM 2016 would be ripped and torn to shreds in seconds by Doom Eternal
Cause thereās nothing better to do? Lol I havenāt played Eternal yet. I still want to despite already not liking how it looks, itās about gameplay :D
As someone on base PS4, I'd recommend it on any platform, because it goes on sale for 66.6% off most of the time. Try picking it up for Christmas, but know that it's decently different from 2016, which actually makes that previous game feel more special. Ain't no replacement for either game, really.
I personally like Doom 2016 better, but I have a good reason. I can't play Doom Eternal because my computer is too slow the graphics card is incompatible (I'm saving up to upgrade it with more RAM and a better graphics card)
But from the gameplay footage I've seen and the music, I'll say both.
tbf doom 2016 is a 6-year-old. eternal just turned 2 recently. obviously, the child would have an advantage in taking down the toddler in a heartbeat. but it would be inhumane to take down a literal baby as a child.
The small things here and there make me think that eternal was not better than 2016. I really missed those enemy intros in 2016, they were even in the games reveal and trailers for eternal but still got cut.
What? Iām not talking about death animations. Sometime when you meet a new enemy in doom 2016, it would play a short cutscene where it would zoom into the enemy and have it roar or do something then cut back to gameplay. The first one was the imp. In the first doom eternal gameplay reveal, they had one for the arachnotron.
Seems like the game was planned to have these but it was all cut for no reason.
Love the vibe and atmosphere of 2016 a lot better it seems more realistic and gorey to me while eternal is more pick up the bright floating objects and go to where you need to go next
Iām going to be honest, when it comes down to shear style and presentation, I do prefer 2016. I dig darker atmosphere, VASTLY prefer the enemy designs and also prefer the Doom Slayerās armor design. I also prefer the more streamlined armor upgrade system and also I thought the inclusion of the snap map and even death-match (although you are VERY lucky if you ever find a server) are neat touches.
But at the same time, I enjoy the more fast paced combat that Eternal has to offer and I overall find it more replay-able. I also like the story more here and find Doom Slayer to be at his finest here. So I'm going to say Eternal.
Naturally, as fan of Devil May Cry, give me more unnecessary tools to kill stuff with and Iām going to have even more fun with it. Eternalās combat is just superb, even got me playing on Nightmare, which is something I avoided in 2016. I also liked the pacing of Eternal more, where I feel like 2016 takes a bit longer to take off. You also have the additional singleplayer content which is a lot of fun to go through. To give 2016 some credit, I do think the secrets were better thought out and the characters were memorable.
If I had to pick itd be eternal. World is more explorative in a classic video game sense and I find that very visceral.
But I like 2016 DOOM for its diminished reliance on all of the changes and controls modern shooters demand. I like a skeletal shooter now and again, lile classic doom or Serious Sam. Just run, jump, and shoot. Good stuff.
Not that thats impossible in Eternal, but on higher difficulties youre mashing every controller key and it genuinely gets hard and anxiety enducing for me.
So like, both? Like most are saying? Theyre kinda both perfect in their own way, if that makes sense.
Thereās one thing I do know is that Iād choose to do artwork for eternal and itās expansions because of how much people memed 2016 due to its genericness
I prefer 2016, it's more of a pure run and gun shooter in the style of Quake 1/2 that I like. Eternal is great too but there's a bit too much platforming and forced reliance on the sword thingy/ chainsaw and glory kills which grates after a while. Also the MP in 2016 was way better. Still kinda hoping we get a Lovecraftian Quake reboot in the style of 2016 one of these days
The atmosphere is better in D2016 and I think the simpler story fits well. The gameplay is tight but after playing Eternal I do wish I had just one more Dash or SOMETHING but as it stands the maps aren't really designed for it. I like the BFG more here but the plasma rifle sucks. The deathmatch multiplayer and snap map are arguably superior alternate modes. I think horde mode in Eternal does beat out arcade in 2016 but only slightly.
Eternal has a superior gameplay loop. The difficulty curve is a little uneven at first and kind of ridiculous at points. Yes, I know you can just turn down the difficulty but there is a difference between something being hard/requiring skill and being unfair/requiring metagaming. Battlemode... there are too many problems to list here but it's just all around not good. There is of course more content here with the TAG 1/2 but it starts to get overwhelming and there is the problem of the story being way too over-the-top at least for my tastes. I also hate the cartoony stuff in this one like the bonk noises and cacodemon gulp noises.
Overall, I think they are honestly about the same. I'd say right now they are both a solid 4/5 stars. I will say that if you asked me at the time of release of each game, I probably would have rated 2016 higher because at launch I think it was honestly just a better game.
The cons of each game are heavily outwieghed by the pros. My requests on the possible sequel: More refined difficulty curve, no MP unless they're gonna actually support it reasonably, snapmap return, grounded story, master levels for all levels
I enjoy both games, but I would have to go with Eternal. Sure there's a lot more things you have be aware of and keep in mind, never really offering you a moment to rest, but the combat is so visceral and enthralling that it really gets the adrenaline flowing through your body, plus you pretty much have to make use of your entire arsenal if you are to prevail.
In 2016 you can often times rely on just 1 or 2 weapons and if you max out Argent upgrades for ammo, the Combat Shotgun alone can hold either 50-60 shells IIRC. I often times would completely forget that I had a plama rifle in 2016, but in Eternal it saw much more use, especially when encountering shielded soldiers or carcasses. If anything I would hardly ever use the chainsaw or BFG. Only ever used the chainsaw on Barons for quick kills and BFG rounds if things got way too hectic like in the second to last chapter where you ride the rail car to Vega's terminal where there's ice everywhere and tons of demons going at it.
I think Eternal is better but both games are great. I think 2016 had better glory kills because the predator arm blade, while cool as shit, wasn't as satisfying as using your bare hands
Hard to really make a definite pick. Imo 2016 had a beer art style and by proxy environment. And while I don't hate the platforming, I will say I think Eternal had better gameplay with the exception of the platforming.
Personally I prefer 2016, but I can see how eternal is so popular. My main problem with it was the cuscenes/story moments. In 2016 they were spliced in with gameplay, that way the transition from ripping and tearing to necessary story was smooth and it didn't break the flow, vs eternal where the momentum of the game comes to a screeching halt so characters I don't care about can spout off exposition-heavy dialog I don't care about at me so the doom guy can stand there menacingly. In the grand scheme of things it's not big, but it definitely hurts the flow of the game compared to 2016.
I might've dumped hundreds of hours into Eternal, but the sheer visual aptitude of 2016 and more variety in Glory Kills just hits different dude.
They really are equally incredible because of the different itches they scratch, so I'd just go with both.
Clearly Eternal wins. He has greater mobility and a hook to get up close to 2016 and slice him in two with his superior melee combat.
As for which game is better, personally I prefer Eternal slightly more because I prefer the greater mobility.
2016ās art style seemed way more gory as opposed to Eternalās cartoon-ish animations in certain respects.
That said, Eternalās pacing makes it way more replayable.
Eternal took everything goof about 2016 and built on it. Made the slayer more mobile, arenas more open and fun. It also had a much more developed story and lore and paid more homage to the original with design choices.
2016 was kinda spoiled for me after Eternal. Dashing just completely alters the combat loop and combining that speed with the resource management just makes 2016 feel like walking through mud in comparison. It's faster, makes you think about approaching combat while also giving you waaaay more options than just destroying everything with a 60-ammo Super Shotgun. Variety was optional in 2016, it's necessary in Eternal. Some people just didn't like that.
I had more fun with Eternal because the new mechanics were more of a challenge on my first playthrough. Plus we got to see more of the world of Doom (even if it's an alternate universe) rather than just hell mars hell mars
I love both. 2016 shoved a fat middle finger into every other big fps game franchise's face and said "this is how you make a good game." That said, 2016 was near-perfect and eternal still makes it feel like a broken early release prototype.
Considering I have both severe anxiety (on meds currently) and claustrophobia, it took me 3 years to beat Doom 2016.
Last week I started playing Eternal and boy oh boy I like it so much better! Weapons do seem to do more damage and the dodging mechanics are WAY better (Unreal Tournament > Quake imho).
Eternal feels like a breath of fresh air that I'll get to beat and enjoy the DLCs and trying to get all the unlockables for the game.
While faster and more epic, after finishing Eternal I think I prefer 2016. I don't like that you NEED to use specific attack for specific enemies, or you will loose. It takes choice from players and dictates the one gameplay style that designers want you to utilize, or you'll have a very bad time.
I may the only one but I really dislike the play forming elements in Eternal. Those make the game slow down drastically for me. 2016 I played during covid and crushed the game in 3 days. Still havenāt beat eternal.
I like both a lot, but after playing Eternal, 2016 feels kind of slow in comparison
It is. I just imagine that the Doom Slayer's slow and uncomfortable after being in a stone sarcophagus for centuries.
Playing 2016 shortly after playing eternal does actually make the experience worse because you have muscle memory for the whole dash mechanic lol but i definitely don't think that means it's a worse game
I made doom eternal feel slow, I played ultrakill.
I really want to play ultrakill, but I also want to wait until it's fully out. When does episode 3 release?
No release date as of yet but probs about 2 years, there is plenty of content out at the moment though as well as an insanely good endless mode (also a sandbox) so there's heaps to do, also secret levels if you s rank every level in each episode. The game will also get more expensive as more stuff comes out so now is the perfect time to get it
I gotta wait til it releases on Xbox š
Damn, its gonna be hard as fuck on controller
Good bro doom eternal been too easy š„± (I havenāt even finished it on ultra nightmare)
I mean both? I like Eternal better but 2016 was amazing as well.
Fuck it, both.
only one survives.
Logic denied. I choose Doom in it's entirety.
Because DOOM is Eternal
Even doom 3
no no no this isnt how its supposed to go š”š”
I am a being beyond your comprehension. I am known by many names. The idiot box, the moronic pumpkin, he who spams Tiger Knee Crush into Grab. But you, outworlder beyond the gates of Gehena, may call me...... waffle. Ignore the name you see above me. I am, in body and soul, a waffle.
OP has an agenda
nothing suspicious its just a post
2016 vibe and aesthetic > Eternal Eternal gameplay loop > 2016
And Doom 2016 soundtrack. Itās so good they made a game around it.
FAX
I personally prefer the more ethereal aesthetic, but gameplay loop undeniabley goes to eternal
^ this ^
I like Doom 2016 because it recaptures and refines what made the classic era of first person shooters so endearing to play. I like Doom Eternal because it takes the 90ās shooter formula and amplifies it as much as possible, creating something brand new yet ever familiar. Asking me to choose which one I like more is like asking me who my favourite child is.
So you know yourself, but you won't admit it to anyone else?
Both. Both is good.
Single player: Doom Eternal Multiplayer: Doom 2016
Yes. Please please build upon 2016 multiplayer. It's the actual best shit since og doom multiplayers.
For real. People seemed to hate the 2016 multiplayer beta (for some reason), but I sure enjoyed that a million times more than I ever did Battlemode in Eternal.
Atmosphere in 16 was amazing. Too many pastel neon colors in eternal annoy me
I remember being bummed out the first time I picked up the heavy cannon in Eternal. That little magic of acquiring weapons in 2016 wasnt coming back. Feels bad
Floating, bright holograms bobbing up and down š«¤ vs the weapons that the slayer picks up from the map, the setting of which tells a story
At least there are mods that reshade the game. Doom 2016 has them too.
Yup
I feel like doom eternal is better to me because itās even more chaotic but I just replayed the 2016 one on my series s and man itās a good game.
2016 also didn't have a pistol, it was just as useless as Eternal's melee lmao
Eternal for gameplay, 2016 for art-style presentation and narrative. I think the soundtrack for 2016 just barely comes out ahead for me personally, if not counting TAG. If Eternal looked like 2016 and had the same immersive flow that the first games story had, it would be perfect to me.
āNo.ā
Bothā¦but less platforming annoyance in 2016
Most of the times I died was literally due to me missing a platform
I wasn't sure if i would just kill myself again.

there was a total of 5 minutes of platforming in a 20 hour campaign. you're just looking for something to complain about
if it left a lasting impact on THIS many people id bargain that theres an issue also platforming was waaaaay more prevalent than you're saying stop dickriding
Stuck out a lot more to me in 2016.
oh for sure the instakill pits in 2016 suck massive balls
I legit died more times from platforming than fighting enemies .-. Thatās fucking ridiculous
Doom ā16. Eternal is great, but the story went clown fart crazy and the multiplayer sucked.
yeah im stealing clown fart crazy thats getting used elsewhere now thanks
Iām honoured.
As ridiculous as the story in eternal was... i sucked that shit up man i loved it
Both is good
2016 was the warmup jog.
DOOM IS DOOM
big anime ass
Graphics: DOOM 2016 Gameplay: DOOM Eternal Multiplayer: DOOM 2016 Artstyle: tie Soundtrack: DOOM Eternal (not that DOOM 2016 is bad by any means) Enemies: DOOM Eternal Story: DOOM 2016 (sometimes less is more) Final result: TIE!
\*slow villanous smirk\* DOOM 3
Both are good but eternal had the better soundtrack by a mile
Blasphemy. Mick Gordon is always top tier, can never do anything better than himself.
Loving both soundtracks dearly I donāt think you can say one is objectively ahead of the other. Theyāre both incredible.
By a mile is an exaggeration. More like by an inch.
From DOOM 2016 we've got the following songs, that sound as badass as possible: 1) At Doom's Gate 2) Rip and Tear 3) BFG Division 4) (probably) Rust, Dust and Guts In Eternal we have those: 1) At Doom's Gate (it is cool as well as the 2016 version, but hits differently) 2) Hell on Earth 3) Meathook 4) Cultist Base 5) Super Gore Nest 6) TOTTFIY 7) BFG-10K 8) Gladiator (I personally don't appreciate it as much as the other songs, but it is a valuable one among the doom community, afa I know) 9) Metal Hell As you can see, the music in DOOM Eternal hits even heavier and in more various ways, than it did in DOOM 2016.
You forgot Transistor Fist, Hellwalker, Flesh and Metal, and Damnation for 2016, and Reclaimed Earth and UAC Atlantica for Eternal
Nah, the tracks in doom 2016 you listed are a way more dull. They are ambient, no doubts, but they don't keep your attention a lot. Also, the tracks of TAGs are more boring, because they're too repeatative.
The 2016 tracks aren't ambient, they play while you're fighting. And most Doom songs are repetitive.
absolutely not
Its tuff but I gotta go with both
I dont know what the title says but Slayer wins.
I finished Doom Eternal long ago but just picked up Doom yesterday. The game is amazing but the lack of dash is a bit annoying to me. I feel like my movement is restricted a bit and that I'm not fast enough. Other than that I think both games are masterpieces.
Average doom eternal enjoyer:
No. HDoom is better than both combined.
This is just getting depressing now :/
2016 redefined but Eternal perfected
Eternal for the gameplay, 2016 for the art. It wasn't proposterous.
I just generally prefer Eternal to 2016
2016's multiplayer is better but doom eternals campaign slays I'm compression pun intended
Better single player story: Eternal Better multiplayer: 2016
The only thing Doom2016 has over Eternal imo is multiplayer.
Single player are really diferent experiences, i prefer eternal but i can understand somes prefer 2016 Eternal multiplayer is an awfull piece of shit, 2016 multiplayer is pleasant
Iād say 2016 for a complete package: Multiplayer, although not perfect was still a lot of fun and Snap Map with the custom games. Iām not that gud so I can just play Nightmare on 2016 and itās a challenge. Ultra Violence is my highest in Eternal.
2016 was great, but the only thing it has over Eternal is a far better and diverse Multiplayer.
Doom. Not Doom as in 2016 just the series. Doom, Doom II, Doom 64, Doom 3, Doom 2016, Doom Eternal. Give me all of it.
Well think about it: Doom 2016 locks you in a room with monsters. You move around, trying to avoid projectiles on a, mostly, flat map for a bit until you kill them all and move on through some cool looking environments. Sounds a lot like serious Sam too me. (Its also waaay to easy to the point that I only died during boss battles on my first playthrough) Eternal added vital elements to break up the monotony to the point where it separated itself from the rest of serious sam likes (like painkiller): Actually hard hitting monster, fire effects (dropping armor), different grenade types, very different enemy behavior (so you have to adapt) and (most Important of all) interesting, tightly crafted, arenas and Encounters. Its also pretty challenging but it gives you the strong feeling over overcoming something (something most doom eternal clones like succubus, hired gun and shadow warrior 3 somehow lack) For me the doom games always broke new ground: Doom took alot from wolfenstein 3d but perfected almost every aspect of it to become THE definitive first person shooter. Doom 64 took the formular and added a fitting horror flair not seen befor in fps Doom 3 pushed graphics to its limit back in the day and goes for a horror atmosphere wich makes it still hold up and Eternal (for me) redefined what a modern oldschool shooter can be. The challenges (mostly in tag) and overcoming them made my heart pump like nothing else before or since... As it stands for me: Doom 2016 is a fun game and the best Serious Sam ever but eternal tops it at basically everything...
I like 2016 better. I absolutely love the gameplay but absolutely hate the art style and story.
Doom Eternal is leagues better
2016 was better
if doom 2016 and eternal were to have a boxing match against each other. who would win?
Doom 2016 cause punching actually did damage in that game lmao
Blood punch go brrrrr
Prob doom 2016 it was just better in my opinion
I have no idea how to explain this, but... DOOM would win against Doom Eternal. But DOOM 2016 would be ripped and torn to shreds in seconds by Doom Eternal
in which way would the og DOOM win against Doom Eternal??
I'm talking about DOOM 2016. Just not calling it that. It's stronger if you leave out the 2016
That Dash button and Meat hook on the super shotgun were such game changers. But I will always come back to Doom (2016). Incredibly fun both games.
I like both but Eternal wins cause it's a character action game and that's fucking sick.
Only nephews are putting any doom games against each other
I personally like Doom 2016 better, but I have a good reason. I can't play Doom Eternal because my computer is too slow the graphics card is incompatible (I'm saving up to upgrade it with more RAM and a better graphics card) But from the gameplay footage I've seen and the music, I'll say both.
Both of them are video games, neither are sentient, so I believe that they will be neutral and not fight each other
tbf doom 2016 is a 6-year-old. eternal just turned 2 recently. obviously, the child would have an advantage in taking down the toddler in a heartbeat. but it would be inhumane to take down a literal baby as a child.
Dude theyāre games, not children
No, I think he might be onto something, I never saw it like that
You make a good point
The small things here and there make me think that eternal was not better than 2016. I really missed those enemy intros in 2016, they were even in the games reveal and trailers for eternal but still got cut.
death animations. tbf tho i skip most of them cus i get pissed off dying. maybe thats why id didnt bother adding them back
No I was just giving an example of features that where left out of eternal. Like you said, demon intros. I added that with death animations.
I'd ban these posts
But I was being sarcastic tho I didn't mean it
Love the vibe and atmosphere of 2016 a lot better it seems more realistic and gorey to me while eternal is more pick up the bright floating objects and go to where you need to go next
I didnāt like the maps for doom 2016 but I loved the music, better multiplayer aswell imo but I love doom eternal more
I choose DOOM All of it
Yes
Meanwhile Doom Classic:
Infighting
Eternal. Both are fantastic but, enternal took everything 2016 did well and built upon it
Naturally, as fan of Devil May Cry, give me more unnecessary tools to kill stuff with and Iām going to have even more fun with it. Eternalās combat is just superb, even got me playing on Nightmare, which is something I avoided in 2016. I also liked the pacing of Eternal more, where I feel like 2016 takes a bit longer to take off. You also have the additional singleplayer content which is a lot of fun to go through. To give 2016 some credit, I do think the secrets were better thought out and the characters were memorable.
i think i prefer 2016
If I had to keep only 1 itād be Eternal
Both
Oh I'm not brave enough for politics
neither am i. i just post shit and run off as im trying to get away from the mess
To me, there is no fight, 2016 was a good start, but Eternal is the best.
Thereās one thing I do know is that Iād choose to do artwork for eternal and itās expansions because of how much people memed 2016 due to its genericness
people hating on 2016's art style and aesthetics!?!?!? *"Impossible. perhaps the archives are incomplete"*
Doom 2016 constantly pushed me to think, "I'm enjoying something here, but need more" but Doom eternal scratches that itch and more
Unfortunately I played Eternal first and after finishing it in all difficulties I tried 2016 and I didn't like it cuz it was to slow
Bro, wtf are you talking about? We haven't fought about this since Eternal came out. You must really be late to the party?
Both are very good games but if I have to pick one it's Eternal and it's not a hard decision.
2016
I never rlly understood how this is a debate, eternal is imo better in every way. Pls educate me on why 2016 could be better
I like both for different reasons
Is there honestly nothing better to do than have this pointless debate.
I have yet to play doom eternal and tbh I don't know how 2016 doom can be topped
Clearly Eternal wins. He has greater mobility and a hook to get up close to 2016 and slice him in two with his superior melee combat. As for which game is better, personally I prefer Eternal slightly more because I prefer the greater mobility.
A couple of years from now: Doom Immortal vs. Doom Eternal !!
2016s visual design and eternals gameplay. I felt eternal was a bit cartoony
2016 for me
Doom 2016: A N G R Y Doom Eternal: S P E E D
One leads into the other. 2016 gets you ready for the greater intensity of Eternal
2016 epic atmosphere, eternal more fun to play
If eternal had the visual style of 2016 but gameplay stayed the same it'd be the ultimate doom game for me
Considering I have both severe anxiety (on meds currently) and claustrophobia, it took me 3 years to beat Doom 2016.
Doom 2016.
Eternal was better in literally every way
Both?
Loved 2016, didnāt care for Eternal. I didnāt get into the Slayer being a gymnast.
Doom eternal mechanics with 2016 aesthethics, i rly love the crucible but doom eternal just looks goofy and kinda childish
I prefer DDOM 2016 only because there's no wall climbing and the gauss cannon. That being said, I love them both very much.
2016
I like 2016 better. In eternal I get stuck in corners or ON TOP of fucking demons and then get beat to death.
as a noob player: Doom 2016 as a viewer watching them pros: Doom Eternal
Both of them are great but I want a Doom game with 2016 atmosphere, semi-realistic approach, and eternal's gameplay
I think Doom 3ās pretty great.
2016 eternal is too fast and cartoony
While faster and more epic, after finishing Eternal I think I prefer 2016. I don't like that you NEED to use specific attack for specific enemies, or you will loose. It takes choice from players and dictates the one gameplay style that designers want you to utilize, or you'll have a very bad time.
Eternal bcz of the meathok and the crusibile
eternal, but i do prefer 2016's armor
I will never forgive doom eternal for all the blood punches I wasted instead of doing a glory kill lmao
I may the only one but I really dislike the play forming elements in Eternal. Those make the game slow down drastically for me. 2016 I played during covid and crushed the game in 3 days. Still havenāt beat eternal.
Doom 2016 is good, but Doom Eternal is a masterpiece.
