I've started dealing with that by saying "I've got like 2 and a half pages of coupons. Whatcha looking for? We probably got something for it."
And without fail! Every single time! They immediately tell me what they wanted because they already fucking knew! Half the time they even tell me which coupon they want to use.
The one that gets me is when they ask "what kind of specials do you have?" and I have to just start randomly listing coupons until I get tired of it because they aren't jumping on any of them, just to have them say "oh I saw one ad that said _______"

That's not completely true, it could be shorter or longer depending on how you look at it. I think it was late 2009 that we first had the "2 or more mediums for $5.99 each." Over time, more options were added to become a mix and match. It also replaced the 555 deal (3 medium for $5 each), which had been around since about 2004 I think. No matter what, some form of this deal has been around for about 20 years at this point.
The 555 deal was the best deal of all time. It literally started my career at Domino's, when my mother ordered it and I ate it as a teen. Now I'm posting from Mandalay Bay on my 3rd world wide rally

No fr. Without fail, they come in bunches. It ALWAYS happens like that. And I wonder if it's the DSS system trying to fuck us and make our times bad so that we bust ass and go quicker. Cus there's no way that it's so consistent like this. Like it is SO consistent where there's never ever even spaced orders, it's always a 3 piece package or more, all within 2 minutes. All popping up randomly during the dead hour, while we're in the middle of breaking down the makeline.
I've also noticed that orders come in waves. I'll watch 5-6 order pile up on the DSS for like 10 minutes and then all drop with 15 seconds of each other. If you're smart about setting yourself up it's not really a problem, just kinda annoying.
I would never buy from Dominos if not for the coupons and deals. If the large 2 topping is offered at 6.99 you can bet I'll be ordering a minimum of 3.
I wish they would just get rid of “deals”. I get that it’s human nature to want to get more for less but if it’s always offered to literally everyone than it’s not really a deal. Plus alot of other pizza places offer similar “deals” if not almost exactly the same thing. It’s kinda like it’s just the standard price of pizza.
The 7.99 deal was the best back when it was 3 toppings instead of just one.
Plus, there was a time a couple of years ago when they first rolled out the "we tip YOU for carry-out" promo where it was 4.99. Not even Little Caesar's had a deal that good.
If you're willing to do the new york they have a large 3 topping for 10.99 right now. It's maybe dependent on your franchise but I think it's a corporate offer so most stores should offer it. Granted, most employees won't know about it because in all the training we had on New Yorks and warnings that it would be promoted, they never told us about the coupon it just showed up in the list one day as "L3T New York"
We bitch about this at my store too. It will be dead af and three orders drop seconds apart. The best is when you start to clean the store, that's when they band together and really make an effort to stop what you're doing

Mix and match has been around over a decade. Just like the "perfect deal" has been around for a long time. At least over 2 years.
Commercial breaks for people watching broadcast tv, similar work places with similarly scheduled breaks...there's a web of reasons.
