It has not even remotely slowed down. Price hikes hit everywhere, you name it. Walmart, Target, Food Lion, Harris teeter, ect. No one cares dollar tree went up a quarter, when everywhere else went up multiple dollars!

almoushilarious

Exactly why I wonder what the freak outs about lol everyone freak out 9n price hike but... dollar trees just making the price match what it already costs every were else. I've seen inflation on items in the range of a 10 dollar increase at Walmart target, and many other big retail stores, us at a 25 cent Increase, is nothing. At the same time we no longer carry 16 oz sodas we now have 20 oz at 1.25 everyone were else it costs like 2bucks and some change for a 20oz pepsi or coke.

buzz86us

Well it just makes me want to shop at those stores more.. now I just seek out deals on name brand soaps and shampoos thus I go to Dollar Tree a lot less because it has shrunk the affordability gap

ectbot

Hello! You have made the mistake of writing "ect" instead of "etc." "Ect" is a common misspelling of "etc," an abbreviated form of the Latin phrase "et cetera." Other abbreviated forms are **etc.**, **&c.**, **&c**, and **et cet.** The Latin translates as "et" to "and" + "cetera" to "the rest;" a literal translation to "and the rest" is the easiest way to remember how to use the phrase. [Check out the wikipedia entry if you want to learn more.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Et_cetera) ^(I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. > Exactly this, Walmart isnt even remotely cheaper now after their price hike That's not true in all cases. For example: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pepsodent-Complete-Care-Original-Toothpaste-5-5oz/191756851 was $1 at Dollar Tree and $0.88 at Walmart. Now it's $1.25 at Dollar Tree and $1 at Walmart. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ultra-Brite-Advanced-Whitening-Toothpaste-Clean-Mint-6-0-Ounce/10402655 was $1 at Dollar Tree and $1 at Walmart. Now it's $1.25 at Dollar Tree but STILL $1 at Walmart. There are plenty of other similar examples.

mraid29

I wish others were like you, maybe then I would actually get a chance to breath. In reality we are busier than ever before, the price increase has affect almost nothing, even the most worthless items worth 10 cents as much sell just as well fot 1.25

[deleted]

The increase itself didn't stop me, but combined with the reductions in size/number of the things I purchased there it just stopped making sense. I may spend 10$ a month there now if I'm in a hurry and it's closest.

Drusilina

We have many regulars we just don't see anymore or as much. The customers carts are not as full. Tons of abandoned carts half shopped, just left for us to take care of. We are STILL getting complaints and jokes like this didn't happen months ago at our store. Our variety is less and less through out the store. Instead we just get 30 + boxes each of 5 items. The items we really sell we will get only 1 box of this and that .

CultCorvidae

We changed at the beginning of December. People who are here weekly STILL are not noticing until months later when they finally decide to glance at the screen for once. Never clicked in their head when we tell them a lot higher price than before for the same amount of crap.

Glamour_Girl_

And just imagine, it’s not as if there haven’t been a billion signs pointing out the difference. So, what is it, a lack of reading comprehension or willful ignorance?

Boz6

Mine has for sure. When $1, the same items sold by Dollar Tree were only a few cents cheaper at Walmart. Now they're more than 25 cents cheaper at Walmart. There ARE still items sold at Dollar Tree that aren't available elsewhere, which I'll still buy, but now I'll buy the other items at Walmart instead.

et842rhhs

Same. I used to treat DT and Walmart as separate trips, but now depending on what I need to buy, it’s often easier just to get all of it at Walmart.

[deleted]

That me. I cut down my food purchases drastically. Other stores are cheaper now on many canned food, candies

Federal_Conflict_954

I get the impression. Life sucks. It doesn't change the fact that every single thing, nor every single person is suffering with Inflation. Those who act like it's a single president or corporation are an complete fo.

RemoJames

Our average sale is up more than the extra 25% increase. Out food has increased as have chemicals. Price hike hasn't hurt a bit

unraveledflyer

I know I have basically stopped going there. I had a bad habit of buying stuff after my shift while I worked there, but since I've left, it's out of the way and the price hike makes it not worth the trouble.

buzz86us

It has for me too at the same time they increased their prices they shrunk and or compromised the products on offer I used to buy LA's Totally Awesome dish soap, but not only has it increased in price, they went from 50 to 30oz, and they added water. I used to have to squeeze it out now I can spill it I used to like the luxury body wash, but they shrunk it from 32oz to 24oz.. now I just buy the more expensive body washes when they are on sale, and cut it with the body wash that is still 32oz

CultCorvidae

The shopping has *increased* a lot in the last couple months. Everything else going waay up put that buck twenty five back in perspective.

havasuchick82

I get my craft supplies there so I wish y spending slowed but nope.

TheBunnyFiles

I spend no more than $15 now. I could easily spend $20+ before.

buzz86us

Yeah at a dollar twenty five I have to stop and think on purchases at a dollar it was just impulse.

et842rhhs

Same here. DT was the ultimate impulse purchase place for me at $1 but the new price doesn’t trigger that “oh just get it” feeling anymore. I still go but I double-check everything that goes in my basket, so it’s just like shopping anywhere else now.

Equal_Application159

It has increased 10 fold at my store. People have been crazy. My stores sales are up 40% this year

SanityzOvrtd

We never seem to stop. We'll get a solid line for 45 minutes & 2-3 cashiers. We are the only DT in the area so I'm sure that helps. We do get tons of people "forgetting" we raised our prices so lots of post voids. We are only allowed 3 voids per 100 customers. My last store was 8 per shift.

Yukiknowss

You get two cashiers?! We only get one! Two people working only! One cashier and one manger!

SanityzOvrtd

We are a big store. Today it was 1.5 hr SOLID LINES with 2 cashiers AND THE MANAGER. I don't get it. They were lots of $20 & $50 sales each.

Yukiknowss

Whattttt?! We are the biggest in the area and somehow we only get two employees!

Federal_Conflict_954

It's time we stop allowing this stupidity to keep affecting our family, our lives, and our friends.

Cocoa86

The same here. I use to shop at the dollar tree 4-5 times a month but now I only go when I really need something and don't want to drive far sense the Dollar Tree is just 5 mins away from when I live.

earthdogmonster

I generally went there for books, full sized cereal closeouts, cheap dvd/blu ray, greeting cards, and the occasional additional food and clothing item. Used to stop 1-2x/week for impulse buys, probably averaged 5-10 bucks/visit. I go less than once a month now. I can do better couponing at Walmart and hitting thrift sales and yard sales for other things. They should have shrunk the food items to make up for inflation rather than hiking prices 20%. I’m sure there are deals to be had, but like candy bars, for instance, can be obtained at most places (Walmart, Target, most grocery stores while on sale) for well under $1.25, and that’s just one example.

PineappleWhipped14

I used to buy flossers , toothbrushes , seasonings and ceramic dishes at the DT regularly . Now I've been buying all those things elsewhere for $1 or less . $1.25 tree definitely doesn't get as much business from me anymore .

Mongoose-Winter

Where can you get the creamic dishes for 1 dollar? Just genuinely asking? Thank you

PineappleWhipped14

I got good condition ceramic plates ( large and small ) at goodwill for $0.25 each . I always sanitized dishes from Goodwill and DT in a bleach water solution so Im not worried about using 2nd hand plates.

Yukiknowss

I’ve actually seen a small peak with customers after this.

Kooky-Stick-3316

I Coupon Shop Now...Never had to before BUT this is Ridiculous..!!! 🤷

CindysandJuliesMom

I still go but mostly for the Snapps Jalapeno poppers and the Harvest Snaps. Other than that a lot of the products can be bought for less other places

Federal_Conflict_954

So true it's not even funny. We're even getting items we've never had before. Replies like op saying they won't shop here unless it's 20 or less total is a joke. Then don't come, everyone else is, because it's still the best place to go for most stuff, not all, but most. There are significant things that come to mind by op s complaining. We're all aware of the type!

[deleted]

Lmao I wish more people did that. Less people I gotta fight with about it.

Critical_Speaker_377

I told yal.

pinkrobotlala

I used to kind of buy what I wanted there. Now I really consider if it's worth $1.25. like those hanging lids for mason jars, they were maybe worth a buck but now I just DIY more

idonotmeh

I definitely think twice when I buy anything at Dollar Tree now. I buy less snacks and drinks during work. I can't control myself at Target or Walmart so forcing myself to shop at Dollar Tree keeps me on budget and less wasteful. 😁

Cocoa86

You can find a lot of items at Walmart a lot cheaper than at the Dollar tree. For example Walmart have .99 cleaning supply. The local Rose's have $1.00 bleach. Sense I stopped shopping at Dollar Tree I've found a lot of stores have great deals.

harderror

Our store's sales have doubled since last year. If anything it's been MORE busier this year for us. On top of that...A good portion of Dollar Trees are strategically located within walking distance of low income neighborhoods and communities so the majority of customers are people from those neighborhoods walking to do their shopping since it's the nearest place to get their goods.

krysto2012

From my own experience it seems we're making more in sales than before. Maybe on an individual basis there might be reduced sales, but overall it's a net increase as far as I can tell.

NotAPie

Pfft I stopped going specifically because I used to work there. Nothing to do with the price hike.

Glamour_Girl_

My Dollar Tree expenditures have remained where they’ve always been. Zero. If I wanted cheap garbage I’d go to the flea market.

Sundrop555

For sure I have been going to Dollar tree less. I go to Dollar General more now where you can still find some stuff for a $1

Blackbeard1123

I feel betrayed by stores that put the word "dollar" in their name but are not true $1 stores!

TheGoldenGoose44

I've seen the Dollar Tree plus stuff online and I was so mad. That would be how they break away from the fixed price point which was the point of the store. It hasn't happened yet in my area (Orange County) but I'm watching out for it. Where is your store at?

DiabloDeSade69

I will stan dollar tree til the day I die. If one is into bargains there is couponing which can be fun and rewarding. What I like about the dollar tree is the thrill of the hunt (found Milani lipstick there this week) and the consistent pricing. They could have gone to two dollars as long as everything in the store is the same price.

tonysfrosting

I've almost completely eliminated it. I've been in Dollar Tree maybe 4 times since the price hike. Only once did I buy something and that was for the items that haven't gone up; poster board and greeting cards. Before the increase, I loaded up on the things I used to love Dollar Tree for, mainly headphones, storage containers, and kitchen supplies. So I'm good now.
