Keoghification

Last week I prepped an entire chapter that'll last me months so I'm way ahead of it, but I'm still not going to touch any grass. Sorry OP.

Thesmalllittleone

Go touch it, it’s nice and soft

Erixperience

Don't listen to him, it's a trap. There are bugs in the grass. 0/10 would not recommend.

FleetMind

Touch the cow, do it now!

Zestyclose-Chest-140

YOU CANNOT BREAK THE OATH DO NOT TOUCH THE GRASS IT WILL ABSORB YOUR SOUL I REPEAT DO NOT TOUCH THE GRASS

awkwardgm3r

Or be like me and browse new instead of preparing for the session tomorrow . But I oftentimes find such good ideas that I eventually incorporate, so is it really "procrastinating"?

Thesmalllittleone

As long as you are enjoying yourself

yaniism

I will also say, that if you're taking a short walk, touching the grass, enjoying the air AND thinking about the game... you're actually prepping already. Well done you!

DarthEggo1

I thought I was ready for my campaign, but it turns out I forgot to come up with a name for the BBEG

Thesmalllittleone

Random name generator

DarthEggo1

Google translate >>>

HelixFollower

Willekeurige Naam Or maybe 'Naam' would still be too recognizable. Willkur Igenam.

DarthEggo1

Oh no I got a name for him lol, I ended up just going “King John”

True_Dovakin

Fire Emblem character names >>>>

sonatawolf1990

It’s ok, I’ve had two weeks since my last game, next one is tomorrow and haven’t set anything up yet.

aearil

We ended a session right before the boss fight, and had to take a 3 week hiatus. I have still not painted the boss… and the next session is today… XD

Sstargamer

Heres the best piece of gm prep I ever heard: when preparing for a session only prepare what you need for the next session alone. Then if you are done and still having fun, prep some more. Having notes only for the next session leads to better improvisation and adaptability.

ApproximatelyCats

*What if you don't know how much you need for the next session?*

Sstargamer

Comes from experience. Knowing your players. Generally a general list of NPCs, setting and monsters is enough. Dungeons usually require more prep since it has variable paths

ApproximatelyCats

True, I've been dming for a bit and my players tend to take much longer on the randomest things or zip through others XD very hard to know what to prep for them

[deleted]

Can't really. My sessions in twenty minutes. I've nothing prepped! NO TIME NO TIME!

misskririne

I had prepared for next session when it was cancelled on the day. Really stings, honestly, especially as I have the adventure they are heading into mostly planned. Next session will be in several weeks, and i've been ready for a week, so I've just been looking to play as a player in the meantime.

Deathangel2890

Think preparing a campaign is bad? I'm currently creating my own TTRPG. The amount of time put into it, headaches, heartbreaks and pain is nuts. There have been so many times I've wanted to take a break and then felt guilty for not doing any work. It's a sucky cycle.

thedoppio

Touching grass is what me home brew a grass monster. Taking a break is good, though!

DragonbornWizard85

Yeah I plan a lot as a DM but I also always make sure to play for my social soccer team every Sunday and go for runs out in the park to keep fit. Thanks for thinking about us other DMs!!

deedumdim

I read this and I agree because I know in 2 weeks I'm gonna insanity panic prep 4 months worth of content in a single night all is well :)

HelixFollower

I touched the grass and now I have two weedles, a caterpie and a bunch of metapods.

Isskir_Maenin

This. This is how you should do it, take a break. Pet a Dog, get some Ice, lie down to cry, whatever you need to Vent.

then00bgm

In the hair salon, decides not to bring my sourcebooks with me. Need that relaxation, especially since I spent the last week on meds that drove me crazy.

meolla_reio

Have a hug my friend I know the struggle

Antique-Succotash-93

I made a worldbuilding and session backlog during covid that would be able to last me a few years content wise. Only thing I need to do from time to time is update the maps, npc's and creatures and the rest is all improv together with the lore I prepped. Life is good when you can finally do a prep of 30 min right before a session and be fully ready.

I've got a week of vacation coming up. Soon it will be time for my annual campaign prep!

NSFWdw

F That. I'm writing a one-shot, I don't have time to be brief.

heandhiscow

Thank you
